Exploring the Esoteric Art of Long Reach Gravel Bikes and the 2013 Fyxation Quiver

- In the beginning there was long reach brakes. But later on there was bigger road and gravel tires and the industry pushed disc like our civilization depended on it. But there has always been another, in which the Force was also powerful. As Leia is to Luke, so is the long-reach bike to the modern disc brake bike. You see them: the Soma Pescadero, Crust Malocchio...yet they are few and far between.
In this video I'll introduce you to the longest-standing bike of any I've ever owned over the past 35 years. Built in the wake of it's predecessors, the A. Homer Hilsen and Soma San Marcos, this one is different, and a bit of a parody on myself, touting odd pairings such as long-reach brakes with underbiking, Campagnolo with Shimano, Rapid-rise with Ultra-shift, retro-converting threadless to quill, party pace but also "full gas".
In the end it's a bike that captures my attention like no other and is nothing like you'll ever see on the showroom floor of a bike shop.

It's always good to see love for an older bike, still rolling, still standing, against the grain of always having the latest tech.
Sick bike! I dig that a lot, super vibey and fun.
OMAR!!! so glad to see your content, fell in love with how chill you are and your easy demeanour during Henry Wildeberry's videos...subscribed!
Thanks Amit. That's great. Nice to have you on board!
@@allrounderbicycle7193 Conversations between you and Mr Wildeberry did so much to help me design my custom road bike here in India. And of course, it has rim brakes and a triple up front!
I really dig the bike 😍 Cheers from Germany
Your dad got cancer? All the best for him and may god bless you.
Enjoying the content!.. nice finding a local rider and creator 🍺
@@vanessaperez9184 glad you found me. Thanks!
Lovely bike and interesting video.
I love your bike philosophy and common sense approach.
Look forward to learning more from you.
Totally agree :-) Thanks for having an experienced opinion and voicing it. Thanks.
Need to know more about the Hubbub Method ! Next video please! Love your content.
Yes, coming up soon hopefully. In the meanwhile I've left a trail of clues in this video and the last.
A life for a bike that matters and a bike for a life that matters. (I also had radiotherapy sessions last year. They work well and I'm sure that it matters so much for your dad for you to be there...) Peace. I really really love your videos.
Glad you're doing well and thanks for the kind words!
Great video! Long live the long reach brake!
So good! Wishing you all the best these days from the city 🙏🏽💗
@@criddler_9738 thanks! Makes my day knowing theres other skaters out there watching
I’ve been running campagnolo 10 speed shifters with shimano 8 speed gearing with no problems but would love to see how you set up 11 speed campagnolo to 10 speed shimano gears. I’m getting ready to build up a new road bike with mid reach brakes and would love to do this soon. Good video! Keep them coming.
I guess some of us came from school of simplicity. Certain things in the human era has kinda completed their perfection and bicycle is one of them. As human generations never stop competing each other, there’s where all these present confusions popped up. Basically old school riders knew what they wanted for their bike and that’s why it’s common we hear each other talking about having a little bigger tires on an old school bike frame….throw in a couple of big cogs on the back to make my 1x run where I want….. =)
Great video, thanks!
Thanks for watching David.
I like running a CX fork w/ canties on the front because I always run the wider tire on the front of any offroad bike.
niiice bike , ahead of the curve for sure. Stay positive man, my dad was doing that a few years ago, you wouldn't know now, he's back to 100% better even! fuck cancer.
another sick vid. ty
Prayers for your dad and you. F' cancer.

Great video and great bike! I’m curious about how you’ve converted from what looks like 1 1/8th ahead/threadless fork to a threaded fork with a quill?
Yes, good question. Basically Problem Solvers and a few other companies make shims or headtube reducers for this. Maybe ill do a video on it too.
@ Ah, cool! Would be very interested to learn more. Thanks for the great content. 😊
What type ( brand/model)of frame is ?
How do you tune 11 speed Campagnolo to 9 Speed Shimano? Where are the "dead shifts?" One at the top and one at the bottom? Isn't a 50 x 11/34 a monster gear? Cool bike overall!
There are no dead shifts. The high limit screw prevents the remaining 2 clicks from happening.
