    I love Rihanna's voice...she has this smoky, wispy voice that sounds good with any genre. I think that's her strong point...she has the kind of voice that can sell anything. She's goes through so many styles and genres and never loses her audience which is rare. For example, I prefer Beyonces R&B stuff to her pop hits (MM&I vs Single Ladies), with Nicki I prefer her hip hop stuff to her pop hits. With Rihanna I think her songs retain its quality from either side of pop or urban/R&B. She's an average singer though who could give so much more but then it really wouldn't be Rihanna anymore. Part of her appeal or brand is that she's "authentic", not some strict perfectionist with no identity. I get the impression that singing for her, like fashion, are tools to express her personality and not something to master which takes the fun and passion out of it.

      MikeJMCarey93 But that doesn't make sense to me. Authenticity and striving towards improving ones self as you called "strict perfectionalist" aren't contradictory. Art is expression, but some artists see it as a money making hobby and others are so passionate about it that it consumes their entire existence. Aiming for excellence doesn't strip one of their identity. Just because an artist chooses to work hard at their talent and skill doesn't remove a sense of distinction and personality from their art. That's a very narrow mindset to categorise perfectionalists under. And it's funny you said it removes the fun and passion out of it. Art is fun but to those artists who dedicate all their lives to it, it's pain, anger, sorrow, grief, ugly, beautiful, fulfilling, lonely. Artists who seriously engulf themselves in not merely making a cute or edgy single and wearing the latest fashions aren't less passionate, they're even more. For them music isn't a cute hobby or a job it's their lives, their reason for breathing, their existences. Sounds dramatic but that's how some deeply dedicated and passionate perfectionists feel. No matter their moods, physical illness, circumstances they're willing to go on stage and give the audience 100% of their best performance like its their last. That's taking passion to another level that most artists can't reach. Consistency. Sorry for the rant but I just felt like all those artists who actually tie time and effort to implement technique and proper skill with their authentic personal emotions and experiences shouldn't be disregarded as strict ppl with no identity. They still posses identity but it's just more intense than a laid back artist who in purely for the fun of it.

      Funke Oduwole I agree with everything that you wrote, I can't believe I just read all of it, but I agree 100% with everything word for word...... I believe ppl like the original post, tend to make excuses for ppl like Rihanna who is very lazy and doesn't put in the work... I do believe she has lots of potential to be a great artist, but she's too lazy to care and put in the work. Hopefully she will get it together.

      Yes. She is! I heard about the movie. I make sure to that up-to-date on my girl. She's pretty much my inspiration. I agree on her voice, and it has grown so much. She has one of the most creative/electic and versatile vocal styles, and a very large vocal range. Gionni Crawford

      I love that song, that's like my fave vocal song by her! Her vocals on "Titan" too. That E5 she belted and mixed so effortless. Live at the Apple event for Blackheart she actually belted a note higher, an F5, very strong. I love her vocals on "Rage" too on DK3, it shows lots of versatility of her voice and how it can fit different styles, that and "Cali Sun." Other showsing of versatility "Noir", "The Deep", "Goldenheart", "Warfaire." It goes on and on, lol.

      Same here. I believe that Dileesa just hasn't heard a lot of Amy. I also felt the same when I had only heard Rehab. Amy was a singer that sang from heart and had music in her blood. Her early live performances are spot on. You know..back when she wasn't always high and/or severely depressed. I wish she had the chance to make more music.

  • @VaunTV
    @VaunTV 6 лет назад +6

    great analysis, however i think she's a lyric mezzo. i think the biggest problem with her voice is that she's insecure about it. I always say there's two versions of her voice, the robyn voice and the rihanna voice. the robyn voice is what she's insecure about because it's big per se, but it's what sounds best. it's warm, lower and requires her to focus on her singing. then there's the rihanna voice - it's stylized, swanky, nasal and lazy. the rihanna voice is easier and when manipulated properly it not only produces a bigger sound but sounds good. however, most times we get it at the lazy/nasal level. I think in her head, which is where the insecurities come from, the Robyn voice isnt enough. it's not big enough nor expressive enough, but in reality it's MILES better. like you said, if she was to spend at least a year training vocally and fall in love with the Robyn voice she'd be undeniable.

  • @Sttephy30
    @Sttephy30 8 лет назад +6

    These comments got me weak! Anyways, Rihanna *CAN* sing but it ain't much to rave about. Her range, technique, vocal stamina, power & just overall vocal talent is below average, period. And she knows it too. That's why she ain't worried about nothing. Rih knows her saving grace (besides her BEAUTIFUL face/body) is that vocal tonal quality. Her tone is what really saves her, she has this unique Caribbean pop addictive tonal quality, that literally fits like a glove on most radio pop driven songs. If you take away her tone ... There's literally nothing really there. And her career would be over.
    Shoot, I'm not gon' lie... Rihanna's songs have literally been the soundtrack of my life for the past 10 years. She's legit the biggest pop act (in terms of hit singles) of my generation. Her music & unique voice is so addictive. But technically, vocally speaking, she ain't worth a damn. Yes, she'll have a good vocal performance here & there *(which would be considered average for an actual top notch vocalist like Beyonka)* but that shit ain't nothing. Her technique & consistency level sucks. Don't nobody check for Rihanna for actual top notch vocals, period. Great analysis Dileesa!

      @@aubrey_reignz5484 I mean, she's not better than Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly, Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Pink etc... Those women can all sing better than Rihanna. But Rihanna is unique.

    Rihanna is a dope dope vocalist mam. She's not a respectable singer because of marketing. Not because she can't sing.....shes been doing this for over ten years and I do believe we have seen the worst of her and she's only gotten better. While doing sold out shows across the world while keeping a pretty solid technique. I think she's become a really really strong fabulous singer especially in her mid register. Now I would love to hear her sing "higher" live

      "Wear and tear on the voice" lol. You talk as if Rihanna's discography is vocally demanding enough to take a real toll on her voice. It is, as Dileesa and others have said, because she seems to be lazy or not know/care about technique and because she seems to love smoking too much weed. There never has been anything above average about her voice or vocal ability. Yes, she has shown she has some quite good vocal performances recently but nothing out of the ordinary.

    Why does her voice have to be big to be good? You all constantly hawk for people who sound like Beyoncé. And it's obvious that most of you don't dedicate any real time to see her best performances. You take her worst clips and use them to determine what you think of her, lol. But at the end of the day, her fans hear the real power in her voice. You brainless powerhouse stans can keep your generic blowhorns, we can enjoy our soulful, raspy queen.

    Hi i wanted to ask you i kinda have the same tone as rihanna my voice is closer to her 's( but not in head voice a little maybe) but when i sing in another langage i sound diffrent especially in oriental like ''biridak" from oum kaltoum a really great song . A legendary diva . I guess my voice in this sounds Huge i even hit higher notes without efforts and i have à good technique so i think That it's the langage. The style is totally diffrent. Pop Music "american" i sound raspy . Sultry .. Raw . But at list i'm confortable on chest voice .Belting .. but no Way in head voice or wisthle tones .. and i wanted to ask you if it's normal if the voice changes i little bit sometimes. Sometimes it's powerful .other Times tired. And i really wanna improve my head voice . Ah and my voice cracks too much . I'v never smooked neither drinked .

    That's exactly what I was thinking!! Her voice is too small to be a lyric and she has a hard time hitting higher notes. She does seem like a soubrette...

    After listening to her in different songs, I find that she's not really versatile. She could be, but I don't think she cares about technique & versatility. She doesn't fit the mood of a lot of her songs. I'm not bashing her because I thing she's a good talent. But it doesn't appear that she will work on that ANY TIME SOON!

    • @xAgirlfriend
      @xAgirlfriend 8 лет назад +7

      You haven't listened to alot of her music. If you were to listen to This is What You Came For or Never Ending and then went on to listen to Needed Me or something like Pour It Up, you can tell they don't sound anything alike. You might not like her music or her style, or even her singing ability but to deny her versatility is wrong. Rihanna is one of the most diverse female pop singers in the business, and she never loses all of her audiences.

      xAdrianaPaynesMusicx I don't think you got my point... Let's try this. 1st of all, I don't recall saying I don't like her music. That's an assumption. I'm speaking of her actual singing techniques. If you noticed, I'm not talking about what she can't do, but rather what she DOESN'T do. Diverse, YES! Vocally agile, no. Technique, I believe, is not high on her priority list. This has nothing to do with fans & record sales (that's a completely different ball game) my mind is tuned to something completely different than the average fan. I'm am merely agreeing with Miss Delisa because I know what I hear. It sounds like you're a fan, and I understand that. However, this is, by no means, a personal attack on Rhianna. Please understand that.

      Ok I am sorry for misreading your comment. I do understand what you are saying tho. She is not the greatest vocalist but I do think she can sing. I understand your point now. Thanks for your input and I respect your opinion.

    • @melodicharmony9772
      @melodicharmony9772 8 лет назад +2

      No worries, you're fine... Thank YOU for understanding!!! It proves that you're awesome! Rhianna, I believe, holds herself back, for some unknown reason. Not necessarily try to be perfect, but I think her abilities are yet untapped. I'd love to work with her! She has a naturally kind of hard or rough voice that fits her perfectly! It would be nice to see what she could do if she CHOSE to, not change it, but refine it just a bit....

    • @xAgirlfriend
      @xAgirlfriend 8 лет назад +1

      Yes I agree, I am a huge fan and even if I think she can do better because I have seen her do great live performances but she does hold back and it can be done lazy. It is hard for me to admit sometimes but I know this and songs like Cold Case Love, or Stay can be really fitting for her voice and she slays them but she should always choose the ones that compliment her voice on live tracks, there is always time for improvement and she has improved but needs to be more consistent but thanks for having this mature response and feeedback, I appreciate it! :)

    I don't think Rihanna has the gift of singing. Carry a tune sure, but that's all she needs to be famous these days. When she sings live, it's apparent she really has not taken any time to master or try to sing well. I felt like you were very constructive and positive as a vocal teacher. I feel quite differently
