    More information about RJ Gritter (courtesy of www.rjgritter.com/about):
    “The son of a test pilot dad and a flight instructor mom, RJ has been in the cockpit his entire life. Growing up around the airport in Greensboro, North Carolina, he started flying before he was tall enough to see over the instrument panel! He soloed on his 16th birthday and got his private pilot license on his 17th.
    RJ developed a passion for aerobatics through radio-control (RC) flying. He started competing in RC aerobatics at age 16 in national and international events, representing the US in indoor precision and freestyle aerobatic championships. RC flying gave him a strong background for "full-scale" aerobatic flying.
    RJ earned his bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State University. After graduation, he moved to northern Virginia, just down the street from the Bealeton Flying Circus! He got his Decathlon at the end of 2015 and has since flown over 800 hours in the airplane, flying his first airshow in 2016. Since then, he's flown hundreds of performances and has loved every minute of it!”

    I'm so glad HH did this! I've been watching RJ's airshow journey and I love his energy management skills. What he does with a Decathlon is amazing. His show resembles some of what you'd see on the 3D line at Joe Nall. BTW, I've seen RJ fly RC there years ago!

    Finally, A Citabria/Decathlon with a accurate nose/cowl profile and shape. This alone either makes or breaks the look of the aircraft. Thank you David/Horizon!! Wish it was balsa, but I'll take the foamy too!! The last accurate Decathlon on the market was the giant that Mike McConville designed for Horizon back several years ago. Great job guys!!

    Very nice Citabria model. Flat bottom wing is a citabria, a Decathalon has a semi-symmetrical wing. I understand the choice as the flatbottom will make the plane much more docile.

    I saw RJ fly at EAA Oshkosh last summer - his performance was stunning! One of the best performers of the week in my opinion. Some of his full scale moves mirrored stuff that originated in the RC world. Go see him this summer if you can.

    I congratulate you on this excellent concept aimed at reproducing iconic aircraft. I am a European customer and I am very attracted by this type of semi-model product which is similar to the model. I just bought the Mini Draco on pre-order, it is possible that I will also buy this one and I am sure I want to buy the Kit Fox from Trend Palmer, the Highlander from Steve Henry, the Aero Commander from Bob Hoover. .. if one day you produce them. That said, I look at the price too. There is a psychological price that I would not exceed for a foam plane, no matter how detailed it is.

    Cool but missing the opportunity to have clear windows was a bit of a fail. Would've elevated the realism that bit higher!

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  4 месяца назад +1

      We agree, but in this case it would have added considerable weight, complexity, and cost resulting in a price over $300 and lower performance overall. These considerations are why some of our scale models don't have transparent windows (because many/most people prefer a lower price and better performance without them). That said, we do still plan to offer certain scale models with transparent windows in the future!

    • @TheSkinon
      @TheSkinon 4 месяца назад

      @HorizonHobbyProducts it's a rock and a hard place with these smaller planes! Appreciate branching out though, the variety is amazing, be interesting to see what pops up manufacturing wise in the future!

  • @joshl1984
    @joshl1984 4 месяца назад +1

    beautiful but why not scale windows?

    • @Porculus
      @Porculus 4 месяца назад +2

      Not worth it because adding this feature significantly weakens the airframe. Sure, it would look nice, but at the cost of lessened structural integrity. There wouldn't be enough foam material to properly hold the wing in place without it tearing the fuselage apart in high G acrobatics.

    • @HorizonHobbyProducts
      @HorizonHobbyProducts  4 месяца назад

      Porculus spot-on, and as we noted in response to another similar comment regarding clear/transparent windows:
