Homestead Nature Trail | Accessibility in The Villages, Florida

- Did you know that Homestead Rec Center has a nature trail? Well, you do now! It is part of the Chitty Chatty Swamp. We decided to check it out and see how accessible it is. There is a paved concrete path leading from the parking lot to the trial boardwalk. At the trail entrance is a small gate that has a wheel on the bottom that you push it forward to open and gain access to the trail. If you are using a mobility aid like a walker, a cane or your balance is not good or you are in a wheelchair with no upper body strength then you may need a buddy to assist you. The boardwalk is wide enough for my chair and there are benches placed along the trail. From start to finish walking or rolling in my case took about 13 minutes without stopping. You will find signage along the trail highlighting local plants and wildlife. I was surprised to learn that there are air plants growing back there. The only wildlife I saw that day were some squirrels. If you do on the trail don't forget bug spray. To locate the trail stand in front of the dog park entrance and the trail will be located behind you with a sign that leads you to it.

I think because it was overcast with the threat of afternoon thunderstorms. I only passed one person along the trail.
