Thank you for this video. We left NJ for The Villages the summer of 2020 to escape Covid. Plus, we had just retired. Sue Smith & Deb did a walk through with Roz, and I was sold. We were the 2nd renters to occupy Hickory building #3. We had a 1yr lease in unit #3105. It was so convenient to everything; The Villages Health and the Advanced Healthcare medical offices, to the Publix, to Brownwood Paddock Square. I liked to run 5K every other day, dance at the square a bit, walked about 5 miles everyday, and swam in the Trillium Rec Center pool a lot, as it was about 90 feet from our unit. Very nice! We got our exercise. We had no golf cart because as renters, no insurer offered liability insurance, so we didn’t risk it, and missed out on that experience. But we got around by car. That was fine. Our main concern was the spraying inside the units for pests. Our unit was infested with Palmetto roaches. The treatment killed some bugs, but they kept coming. We dreaded turned on the lights in the morning. And worse, getting up in the middle of the night without turning lights on! They refused to die. I believe we developed health related issues due to overspraying WE REQUESTED. When we left for 3 weeks to visit relatives in June and July, our symptoms went away. Then last January to February in 2021, the Lofts lowered the rent between $200 and $500 per unit. We asked for an adjustment and were denied. So we knew we were done there. Our neighbors Frandy(Frank & Andy) needed their walls painted and patched because of picture hanging and The Lofts charged them $2,500. When we left, our full deposit was returned. We left the unit spotless, like we were never there. Brand new. Probably our best experiences though were with people we met over the year. It was hard to say goodbye when we moved back to DelMarVa to be near our children and grandchildren. The heat, humidity, and bugs were a definite factor though. We might still be renting or homeowners in The Villages if not for that. We would never have known though if we hadn’t stayed for a full year. We have some great memories- obviously we still look forward to Mondays and Thursdays with Jerry & Linda.
Thank you Eric. This is a very informative comment. It is especially helpful to hear the full story. We are quite surprised that you had trouble with insects. We don't spray the inside of our home and we have seen hardly any. We get the occasional tiny, tiny ants. We have a pest control company that puts powder behind our light switches and it controls them very well. Sorry to hear about your health issues, and hope that you are back to normal. Thanks again for the great summary of your experiences at the Lofts.
Joanne is such an elegant woman...nice apartment and a great option for some to enjoy the "village" life , be able to walk so many places but not the added burdens of home ownership. Thanks for the tour.
Thank you for this video! I hope The Villages recognize there is a very large market of apartment dwellers and have plans to build more apartment communities in the future. There are just so many of us that do not want the responsibilities that homeownership brings. Lovely to have a single-family home, but personally, I do not want all of the work associated with having one. The Lofts would be a perfect solution for someone like myself to enjoy the lifestyle The Villages has to offer without worrying about contractors, expenses, etc.
I also plan on being a renter when we retire. Home ownership can be a lot and when I’m retired I do not want to worry about anything but paying my rent.
It makes me think...I love not having the responsibilities of landscaping, or roof repairs, etc. I would miss the garage and the view of the parking lot is not attractive.
What a great start to my morning.. Coffee with a new Jerry and Linda video! Really enjoyed this one as I wondered about rental property and expenses in that area. Your interviewee is so delightful and poised on camera. Great information. Very nice apartment and amenities. Love you two and your vibrant personalities. Take good care and Many blessings to you. Frani :)
Jerry I feel your pain. My wife is the same as Linda. She'd change the furniture around (daily). I worked 2nd shift,( retired now) and come home to a dark house. I knew where the furniture was when I left for work. Until one night I FEEL OVER the furniture that had been changed after I left. After that there was a light left on until I got home....................
The Villages fascinate me although I know I will never live there. Am happily retired in Texas Hill Country, but feel like you two are good "friends" that I always look forward to visiting with!
This is where my husband are at. We will probably never move to Florida but we so enjoy these videos. That being said one never knows where life will lead you.
I, too, am in Texas and the COL here is so much more affordable, and own a very nice home in a 55+ community. I was appalled at the cost of those Lofts.
As a note, if you get into the lofts while trying to find a home in the Villages, if you buy a home through the Villages, the lofts will allow you to break your lease.
@@donwilliams6712 ya, well, that was not the case last Spring. Under 6 months for any realtor including TV, you pay a fee to terminate the lease before 6 months. Ask Deb, she moved to Hawkins, and is my star witness.
Get a home buyer’s clause. I always did and just had to give 30 days notice. I usually gave 60 or 90 because I had remodeling to do. In takes roughly 60 days to close on a home in Minnesota if you mortgage it. Everything in Minnesota is so hard and so expensive.
Jerry & Linda, Thank you Joanne for allowing us to come into your home! And Jerry & Linda, several years ago, would either of you have ever thought that your retirement career would have been in becoming hosts of your own channel & program on RUclips? You are both fabulous & have really have some great & informative shows. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy watching these videos on Mondays & Thursdays. I am loving catching up on your videos. You both are so sweet, and l love your interviewing skills . Joanne was adorable and so kind to let us view her apt. Thank you Joann, Linda, Jerry and Mike. I was wondering what the apartments were like - Lovely! I would feel more secure living alone in one of those apartments rather than alone in a house.
Thanks for this informative video. However it made me cranky. I used to be a renter. Never heard of a rental apartment building that charged the renter extra for water, sewer and trash...that was always included in the rent. They're just finding ways to up and up and up and up your expenses. I looked at the floor plans for these apartments and it does not look like they provide enough natural light. Sad.

Well done. Love the different camera angles
Thanks to all 3 of you - the Blue Crew 💙! (Mike must have been wearing a different color since he didn’t even get a cameo… 😉) But seriously - thx Joann for welcoming J/L and all of us into your home! I’d always wanted to check out the Lofts! Welcome to The Villages! 😃
