James Doohan was reportedly one of the nicest people you could meet....I still remember an interview where he was in tears remembering talking to a fan who was obviously having drug problems at the time - he gave her some encouraging words and later she contacted him and told him she had gone back and received a degree in Engineering. He said that was what he was proudest of in his life - that he could turn her life around. Hell of a man.
My favorite story from Scotty (James Doohan) is when he was contacted by a fan who wanted to kill herself. Doohan wrote back to her to visit him at a Star Trek convention. James Doohan invited her to other conventions and talked nothing but nice things to her. After many other conventions he lost touch with her. Eight years later she wrote back to him to thank him for his friendship and how she just finished her Masters degree in engineering.
The whole cast has numerous stories like that, just not all as dramatic. Quite amazing that a bunch of grinding character actors who joined up for a paycheck wound up with lifelong careers that changed not only people's lives but history itself and may have done more good than anything they'd have accomplished had they been engineers or doctors themselves. That has to be the strangest feeling.
I remember going to a convention in Tulsa, Ok. Not quite sure what year he passed away . But I think it was shortly before.. but I sadly couldn't afford an autograph. So I just watched as others were getting things signed. And this couple came up with a child who as far as I could tell, as I was a bit away, had downs syndrome was my guess. But I was just watching him interact with this kid. And that kid, more a toddler, just lit up at the attention. That interaction always stuck with me that James Doohan was the kind soul I've always heard of.
Unfortunate....because space fishtank is awesome, and troi in uniform is boring - and you can blame the writers for the latter, I would rather have had a well-written, realistic xeno-psychologist character on the show, someone who was shown doing real research....anyways, it's pretty obvious the producers got the guinan/troi character switched somehow, and it's absurd - like the bartender should CLEARLY be the sexy one always getting into some drama, whereas the counselor should actually COUNSEL ie. give good personal advice and wring the truth out of people who are in denial and don't want to admit certain things. Troi spends most of her screen time literally stating the obvious - putting her in a proper uniform doesn't address this core issue
It's worth noting that despite the on-screen animosity, Ronny Cox, the actor that plays Captain Jellico, was well beloved while he was on set. And all of the seemingly harsh "demands" he made, like demanding Troi wear a standard uniform, were requests that those actors themselves had made throughout the years on set. He was simply being the voice of the cast that the producers were ignoring.
Jellico reminds me a lot of Commander Shelby from earlier in the series: both were somewhat antagonistic roles without being villains, and to be blunt both were actually more right than the regular crew in the situations they were in.
Okay, but that's a line in the script. As nice a guy as Ronny Cox is, it's really a writer or writers who sided with Marina Sirtis to get her her uniform against the inertia of the producers.* * some of the producers are writers, too... it's... complicated.

My fave Troi ep is probably the one where she has to pretend to be a Tal Shiar operative aboard a Warbird. While she was kidnapped at the start of the ep (so the whole thing was not really her idea of a good adventure), everything that happens after that is pretty badass.
Huge shoutout for David Warner as Gul Madred, Picard's Cardassian torturer in Chain of Command. He was also the Klingon High Chancellor Gorkon who got assassinated in Star Trek 6, the Terran envoy on Nimus III in Star Trek 5, and Ed Dillinger in Tron. Always an intense and brilliant actor, he passed two years ago last week, may he rest in peace.
I wholeheartedly agree. He was a terrific character actor with a great career. The way he and Patrick Stewart played their scenes is like a masterclass in acting. R.I.P. David Warner. 😢
And he was reading his lines off of CUE CARDS. He had to come in on three days notice and couldn't memorize his lines. He delivered that performance reading off of cue cards. That's next level.
He also played Jack The Ripper in Time After Time, Evil in Time Bandits, and Amos Hackshaw in Cast A Deadly spell, among probably a couple hundred other things.

I think Captain Jellico is extremely misunderstood. He was brought in specifically because he knew how to play the Cardassians and needed to turn the Enterprise from an exploratory/diplomacy ship to a possible warship in breakneck time. I actually find this episode makes Riker and most of the rest of the crew look like brats who are made their cool dad left are objecting to their new stricter step-dad. Jellico genuinely doesn't have time for a soft landing with them. Riker is the first officer and shouldn't just be delaying orders on shift changes just because it's different or going to be hard to adjust to. Jellico didn't ask him to do anything unethical there. Also... Troi is a bridge officer and a lieutenant commander... she should put on a goddamn uniform just like everyone else, haha. At the end of the day, he just has a different way of doing things. And you know what? Everything he did ended up being right and he got the job done. AND he got them give Picard back to boot. He's a good captain, just in a different way.
In Star Trek: The Original Series, Episode: By Any Other Name, Scotty is trying to get an alien drunk. He gets a bottle and the alien asks what it is. Scotty, quite drunk already, looks at the bottle, opens it and looks in it and sniffs it. He then says, "It's green." Data unknowingly does the same thing in Relics when Scotty asks what the drink is. James Doohan lost a finger on D-Day at Juno Beach. They did a great job of hiding it in TOS and this episode.
You could actually see James Doohan's missing finger during the holodeck scene. One instance occurred when he handed the empty glass to Picard on the holodeck.
Always found it funny how Troi points out a problem and Jellico says, "Okay, why don't you work on that?" I have a boss who if you make a suggestion he likes, you also just volunteered to be in charge of that.
Yeah well, most bosses (ESPECIALLY military CO's) don't like doing actual work, so it's no surprise that an arrogant jackass like Jellico would essentially just make demands and delegate all day. As troi observes at one point, he doesn't actually have a plan - he's flying by the seat of his pants trying to outmaneuver the cardassians, and if that fails, just try and bluff them.
An actor's job is to convince the audience to suspend disbelief, to forget they're watching a play, and when Geordi mouthed off to Scotty LeVar Burton did just that. I yelled at my TV, "You arrogant punk! Who the hell do you think you are, you...fictional character."
When I first saw this episode over 30 years ago and Data pulled out that bottle, I screamed "IT'S GREEN!!" before Scotty had a chance to ask "What is it?". I had tears of joy running down my face when they recreated that scene from "By Any Other Name"
Every one of those stories Scotty tells is an episode. “Wolf in the Fold”, “Elaan of Troyius”, “The Naked Time”, and “By Any Other Name.” Oh, and “Galaxy’s Child” is the one Geordi mentioned.
Captain Jellico is one of the most divisive figures in ST history. Captain Picard is mostly explorer while Captain Jellico is mostly military and for the job at hand that’s what was needed. I think he was a darn good Captain.
Edward Jellico is an interesting character. The first major contrast is despite him being the military guy, he's the one who decorates the Ready Room with his kids paintings whereas Jean-Luc tends to have a panic attack around children. Picard refers to his officers by their surnames even six years into service together while Jellico goes first name basis on day one. I feel like Jellico would be a much more likeable Captain if he wasn't dropped onto the Enterprise in the middle of this crisis, to say nothing of Picard just being plucked away while keep the senior staff in the dark.
yeah Riker was pretty much a punk the entire time. He did not keep to chain of command and was subtely belligerent the entire time. He acted like a spoiled brat.
The struggle over how many lights Picard saw is a direct reference to Orwell’s “Nineteen Eighty-Four”, in which a man under torture is told to say - and to believe - that four fingers are really three. The issue there, as here, is control and submission.
Well according to production notes on Chain of Command, Part 2, the interrogation tactic actually originated from reports the writers received from Amnesty International about torture tactics. It was only in the writing process that the writers say they remembered the parallel between Nineteen Eighty-Four and reality. The reality is probably that this passage from the novel was based on George Orwell's experience as a member of the Colonial Police in British India, or of his knowledge of Nazi and Soviet torture tactics from career in intelligence services.

James Doohan was one of the toughest people alive.That guy was a war hero who literally landed in Normandy and had his finger shot off by machine gun fire...that man was a damn hero
Unfortunately the writers also had to alter a character to fit the story. They did it with Geordi in Relics, and they did it with Riker in Chains of Command. Story is competent, but it a bit sad we have to ignore the fact these characters are well experienced professionals.
I met James Doohan in 1987. He was making a family comedy which was being filmed at Royal Roads Military College (now Royal Roads University) in Victoria. I was hired as an extra. He was super nice and took the time to talk with all of us. The project was cancelled after a couple of weeks. Earlier in the year I was an extra on an episode of the TV Series Stingray. The episode was titled Night Manoeuvres.
Patrick worked with Amnesty International to research his part in "Chain of Command" so that he could accurately portray the how torture impacts its victims. He became a champion for them afterwards. Ronny Cox (Jellico) is also a composer of folk music, and he tours and records. I met him at one of his concerts, good guy. His song "Portales" is a hoot.
They often do this. They get a guy who's been displaced from his home and they shove him into these drab quarters alone. There's at least two characters that committed suicide this way - Admiral Jarok and that lad Worf and his adoptive brother accidently let off the holodeck. For a universe that's supposed to be about well being and all the rest of it, they can be cold.
@@RockBrentwood To your point, it is at the core of Scotty's character to request all of that material for study. Any down time he gets he studies engineering manuals.

Think it was Trouble with Tribbles or something where Kirk had to order him to take shoreleave instead of reading. So all of this was done for drama's sake. Just to give a little arc for the characters to go on.
@@RockBrentwood To be fair, it hasn't been 70 years for him. He went in, came out, for him seconds pass, and 70 years for everyone. It'll take some time for him to adjust, and for him, as one of the greatest Engineering Miracle workers ever, would be jarring. But yes, Geordi should have been a bit less blunt, a bit more understanding. And also, you drop Scotty on an Excelsior or Miranda Class, both still in Service, and he'd probably still know most of the systems there. And there was a scene with him talking to Deanna about the change, counselling him, but it was cut for time. This is why he hugs her on the way out.

For reference, some of the changes that Jellico made (removing the fish from the Ready Room, telling Troi to wear a standard uniform) were ACTUALLY things requested by Patrick Stewart and Marina Sirtis during the previous seasons.
Cassie's reaction to seeing Scotty was everything I hoped for, thanks to the Patrons for picking Relics, it's been on my mind ever since she started TNG, and she was always so happy to see Scotty on the Star Trek Movies. Also just love the moment the ship does that 90 degree turn to fly out of the Dyson Sphere :D

To share a memory. I was a teen and my mom took me to my first convention in the suburbs of chicago. As we were walking around we came upon a small bar setup near the convention hall. Standing there helping set up for a fan meet up was James doohan "scotty" himself. He saw me stopped what he was doing introduced himself to my mom and me talked to me one on one for around 30 mins, signed about 10 autographs for me. He was an amazing person, with a heart of gold.
Fun little fact: the scene where Troi is asked to wear a regulation uniform is actually done at the behest of Marina Sirtis. She was not particularly fond of the wardrobe options for Deanna's character and had not been for some time, especially given her character was the only one that wore such things, and the reason for that was exactly what you would think it was. For this episode the writers collaborated with her to give Troi a reason to wear a regular uniform which she'd continue on with for the remainder of the series.
I met James Doohan at a Star Trek convention back in the 90’s, I believe. He was a really sweet man. In all my moving, I lost the picture I had taken with him, and it’s still something I think about today.
I have to say that, when i was younger, i didn't liked Jellico very much. Simply because he made my favourite characters unconfortable. But the older i got, the more i have to say, that he was right to make the crew more fit for their roles. Yes, mistakes were made on both sides. By Jellico, simply because he forgot, that the Enterprise is not really a military ship and by Riker, because he failed to adapt to this new Captain and command style. We also shouldn't forget, that the Federation was on the edge of a possible new war with the Cardassians. And the Enterprise as the Flagship of the Federation wasn't really prepared for a possible war.
I think you know this already, but you'll be a pretty big little celebrity yourself at a convention. The openness and respect to which you've approached this IP, and the genuine enjoyment and love you've found for TOS and TNG has been sweet to experience with you and validating for thousands of Star Trek fans. Watching someone get past the negative stereotypes of both the show and the fans to develop a genuine appreciation and connection with a franchise centered around human optimism is remarkably engaging. You are the everyman/everywoman that is the Star Trek fan and you've brought a smile to all of us (tearing up when Scotty shows up? Perfectly natural!). I hope you go to the convention and I hope you take the attention, admiration, and applause with grace because you indeed deserve it. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.

Dyson vacuums are named after the inventor and owner of the company, James Dyson. No relation or connected to famed physicist Freeman Dyson, who worked on the Manhattan Project, and wrote a paper postulating what became known as a Dyson Sphere in 1960. The idea was eventually used in quite a few science fiction stories, along with off-shoots of the idea, such as Larry Niven's use of a Ringworld. Dyson came up with all sorts of amazing theories and concepts and was one of the greatest physicists of the 20th century. He died only in 2020. His ideas included a "Dyson tree" that could live in a comet and provide living space for humans, and "Dyson's eternal intelligence," which would allow escape from the heat death of the universe. And so on.
And neither of them are related to Miles Dyson, whose pioneering work in AI can only ensure a bright future for all of humanity, free from petty concerns such as killer robots.
The interesting thing about the Dyson Sphere is the paradox of it; any society with the technology and resources to build one would have no need of it.
Dyson also worked on Project Orion in the 1960s. The original Project Orion (no relation to today's Orion capsule project) used nuclear bombs as propellant for long range interplanetary craft. In testing with conventional explosives, the test craft actually flew. Unfortunately, the Air Force was exploiting the program to build what was essentially a nuclear powered battleship. President Kennedy, fearful of the implications of the classified aspects of the program, canceled the project. In the non classified aspects of the project, missions were contemplated to Saturn's lunar system with arrival in the late 1960s.
Ronny Cox was the perfect casting choice. In the 80's and 90's he was known for playing Villains in science fiction. Usually a slimy scumbag in a fancy suit. He had done this in Robocop, Total recall, and later Stargate SG-1. People crap on Jellico, he's put there specifically so the audience will hate him. But he's not there to win most popular captain. He's pushing them because they may be in a shooting war in the next few days and they need to be ready and it's his job to get them ready. And he accomplishes his mission. He prevents the war and rescues Picard. Job well done!
Just like Janeway always "knew" exactly how to handle a situation, even if her assessment had no justifiable basis. It's easy to have a character be correct when you're the writer of the entire story...
Troi's assessment indicates that Jellico was gambling the whole time though. The real breakthrough was the nebula residue showing where the Cardassians were and where they were going. Emek was sloppy.

One of the "best" StarTrek series was "Deep Space 9" -- which is where this story line came from. DS9 was one of the best series from start to end. A must watch for anyone that really likes deep stories and over arching themes.
One thing for sure, you will certainly learn all there is to know about Cardassians. :) And for those that don't want to spend 7 seasons, they don't fare well in the end at the end of the Dominion war. Spoiler alert.
James "Scotty" Doohan ,was a lieutenant in the Canadian army in WWII during the D-Day landings, you can occasionally see (in TOS and the movies) that he is missing a finger on one of his hands that was shot off in the war, I also remember hearing a story about him flying a fighter plane between telephone poles during the war because someone said it couldn't be done, and even though he wasn't in the RAF he gave it a try, but that could just be a story he told.
The Cardassian villian leader was played by the Great David Warner who passed away not too long ago and who you should recognize his voice as Chancellor Korkon in Star Trek 6. Phenomenal actor and to see him and Patrick Stuart, both Shakespearean trained actors was a real treat.
I went to STLV back in 2021 right after the pandemic. It was the first “trek” convention to happen since the shut downs and they had a replica of the bridge. I went back to that bridge multiple times because after the things I’d lost during that year it was like seeing an old friend you never thought you’d see again. I know exactly how Scotty feels seeing her again. Jimmy did a fantastic job in this episode
This episode is one of the few in TNG that really shows what the "chain of command" is like in the real world military. It doesn't matter if you think your superior isn't being compassionate, too mean, abrasive, insensitive, rude, whatever. It's a military vessel, not a cruise ship. You don't always agree with people that outrank you, a lot of the time you might not even like them as a person. But you are expected to follow orders and complete the mission to the best of your ability anyway. Some commanders put up the "just get it done" front out of a dislike of appearing weak to their subordinates, some are just like that cause it's what they knew from their superiors when they were climbing the ranks. The good leaders I've worked with knew when to cut back on it and accept input from anyone in a 1-on-1 setting, via an open-door policy. The best ones did the former, AND would make the effort to explain why they did things a certain way when there was downtime. I've had supervisors like Jellico before, and they bring out the best in some people, they're also the ones most likely (in my opinion) to go to bat for their people with THEIR superiors behind closed doors, identifying "diamonds in the rough" and giving them an environment where they can cultivate their talents.

It may appear that those people are going to bat for their superiors. It could be that they are going to bat more for "the whole". They may have even less respect for their superior but more for the whole, whether it's colleagues, team, department, or institution/company. I've had supervisors like Jellico too and I can't say I felt inspired by them to do my best when you had no opportunity to show what you are capable of.
@@ghost7524 I said they're likely to go to bat for their subordinates behind closed doors with their superiors (i.e. Imagine you're a "problem case", and your boss' boss doesn't see your potiential. But your boss does, and goes to bat for you with THEIR boss in a closed-doors meeting). I've had bosses like that in the past and it sometimes it takes someone like that to reach someone who others wouldn't bother with, or couldn't get through to when they tried.

Unfortunately, I still never experienced that with a supervisor like Jellico, and I was never insubordinate m/ problem case like Riker😁 Maybe I should have. Which Picard liked that about Riker...standing up to a superior. Which comes back again in the episode The Pegasus.
I have read that Marina Sirtis had asked to be allowed to wear a regular uniform and this was a clever way of achieving that. She objected to being singled out as it signalled to the audience that her role was primarily as eye candy.
Funny enough, it was Marina Sirtis herself who requested she wear an actual uniform instead of that getup she was wearing the prior seasons, and it honestly was one of the greatest decisions made. She looks great in full uniform and like she's ready to command. Also, Jellico may have been brash and not Picard, but he was the PERFECT OFFICER for the job at hand. He wasn't there for the exploration side, he was there to either be ready or prevent a war from breaking out. And if war was coming, he was the most experienced there to deal with the Cardassians.
I have always thought the same about Jellico. There was this moment, the first time I watched the episode (many years ago now) where I realized I was supposed to not like him for crossing our beloved characters at a 90 degree angle... but it was clear to me that he was on a mission, and the actor (Ronny Cox) pulled that sense off perfectly. As you said, he was the right man for the job -- a hardass for a situation that couldn't wait for personal relationship-building. If anything, I was disappointed in our beloved characters for not being better professionals.
Marina Sirtis really had a love-hate relationship with her costuming over the first half of the series. On the one hand, she was happy when they stopped showing off her cleavage by putting her in uniform, and she commented about "getting her brains back." But earlier she was kind of giddy over becoming a sex symbol due to insecurities she had as a child.
@@Ambaryerno I'm baffled by this supposed sexualisation of Marina Sirtis in the early seasons. The amount of cleavage on display was so minimal that my teenage brain didn't even register it. Baywatch was around the same time, and the showrunners expected our eye's to pop out because they put Marina in a V-neck?
I think everyone cheered when the Captain called her out on it. She really was hard to take seriously as an "officer" who constantly wore civilian clothes.

@@raybarry4307 I can't disagree. For a long time, it seemed the character's only role on the bridge was to sit next to the captain, "sense" things, and state the obvious. However, I believe her character began to develop significantly once she got her space suit.
It was actually Marina Sirtis who wanted to wear a uniform. She didn't think it made sense for her to be the only officer not in uniform. This episode gave the writers an opportunity to make the switch.
Relics is one of my favorite episodes of TNG. Seeing Scotty again after so long brought tears to my eyes. He is such an awesome character and James Doohan gave him such a wonderful personality.
And Patrick Stewart wanted to get rid of the fish. He didn't think it was very enlightened to keep an animal like this captured in that small fish bowl.

"Relics" is such a fun episodes, especially for TOS fans. Unfortunately, there are a few references you'll have missed by not having watched all of the TOS episodes.
The scene of Scotty on the old Enterprise bridge was both nostalgic and sad. In his mind all his friends are dead and gone, though Spock is still alive but Scotty doesn't know that.

Seasons six of 'The Next Generation' was also the last time Chief O'Brien was a series regular, because he transferred to Deep Space Nine in universe, and became a cast member of that show.

Capt. Jellico making Troi wear the proper uniform was something that was needed. She is an Officer aboard the Enterprise, a Lt -CMD . She was out of uniform. Now when she is in her office, that is another story and she can wear the other outfits. Dr Crusher wears her uniform, and lets face it, Troi is a Dr too, therapist / psychiatrist requires her to have a doctorates. After her wearing the uniform, she looks more professional.
SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT, CASSIE DO NOT READ After Sirtis got a real uniform, Troi was written more intelligently, and taken seriously. Marina's favorite story is how, in a later episode, Troi is explaining/lecturing about how Romulan warp cores differ from Starfleet cores. Who is she lecturing? Geordi and Data, the two best engineers on the Enterprise.
The idea is that the Ship's Counselor dresses in casual clothes to be more approachable, instead of the general rigidity of the uniform. Migleemo does the same on the Cerritos. Considering the incredible variety of Starfleet uniforms I don't see her dresses as a big deal. It's more disturbing that the writers couldn't write her effectively until she was put in the uniform.
Your reaction to seeing Scotty materialise was about the same as mine when I saw it back when it first aired. The characters really have a way of working their way into your heart.
The problem isn't what he was saying it's where he was trying to say it. If Scotty wants to talk someone's ear off he could and should have done it when Geordi was off duty or to someone in Ten Forward. If your showing up to a person's place of work during the hours they are working you aren't in the right place to be chit-chatting.

Time and a place. Older people have nothing better to do so they want to share stories and connect with people, especially as they lose friends and family to time, younger people have things to do. Work to get done, a life to build. They don't want to hear about the things you did, they want to do those things them selves.
scotty said the perfect sentence "Every Woman has her own Charms you just have to know where to look for them" and for you "Popcorn in Bed" they are obvious: you have a heart of gold, a humorous personality, a cute smile, you are kind, friendly and you try to be positive towards everyone.
The thing about Jellico is that he isn't a BAD captain. His approach was a little more gruff and direct than what the crew and what we the audience were used to, but his decisions did make sense based on the information he had at hand
Agreed...mostly. The only thing that made no sense was going to four shifts. You have X number of people, billeted to fill every position a third of the day. Forcing everyone to work double shifts intermittently to merely maintain the same productivity - for no good reason - is just stupid.
I would argue the fact he was alienating his entire senior staff by demanding things be done his way and refusing to listen to the advice of the department heads whose JOB is to advise him on how that ship functions is the mark of a POOR commander.
When I was in the USN in the submarine force on fast attacks, we had a 3 section crew rotation underway. That was supposedly the most efficient way to keep a crew rested with limited availability to accommodate a larger crew. It was quite an easy schedule to get used to with the only drawback being you didn’t know what meal you were waking up to in crews mess. Being on a submarine, there was no real need to keep track if it was daytime or nighttime since you can’t really see outside unless you’re looking through a periscope. I can’t speak for the how surface Navy or even ballistic missile subs conducted their watch rotations and I’ve also read that now all subs are on a 4 section watch rotation but I don’t know if that’s true. I liked the 3 section rotation because if you didn’t have any other pressing duties you could rack out potentially for 8-10 hours (if you weren’t hot racking and were SS qualified) and get caught up on sleep that you may have been missing out on from being in port.
I’ve come to believe that since he was competently playing mind games with the Cardassian envoys he was also playing mind games with the crew. For their own good. All the while the Cardassian torturer was playing mind games with Picard. They are like two grandmasters and the crew got caught in the middle.
As per John Johns, so far the only episode I think you need to watch (not just enjoy watching) is "Brothers", because it leads into not only the first film but also the season 6 finale.

I'm absolutely on Jellico's side. He didn't have time to be comfortable with the crew. Also Troi wears a uniform from this point forward because Marina Sirtis requested to wear one. This episode was a good opportunity to make the change.
I was with Jellico on not risking the negotiations to get Picard, but his insistence on changing the whole shift structure of the ship right as they began a sensitive mission was stupid and controlling and petty. Riker's right: he inspired no one and sucked the joy out of the room. He knows the Cardassians very well and he's a great tactician, but he's not a great captain.
@@dupersuper1938 What's the point of appointing heads of sections if when they tell you something you completely ignore everything they say to you? It's one thing if he tried to compromise with any of them about anything but all he did was double down on my way or the highway. Sometimes he was even indicative about it. The story was written in such a way to make him right but likely with his attitude problem he would have overlooked half the stuff he noticed in the show.
For someone who did not grow up watching Star Trek you have become really emotionally involved with the characters and you understand the lore and the plots on more than just a superficial level. You are probably my second favorite reactor for Trek stuff on RUclips. Great job in other stuff too.
The fact that you teared up when you saw Scotty, warmed my heart. I knew you would love this episode.

James Doohan was reportedly one of the nicest people you could meet....I still remember an interview where he was in tears remembering talking to a fan who was obviously having drug problems at the time - he gave her some encouraging words and later she contacted him and told him she had gone back and received a degree in Engineering. He said that was what he was proudest of in his life - that he could turn her life around. Hell of a man.
My favorite story from Scotty (James Doohan) is when he was contacted by a fan who wanted to kill herself. Doohan wrote back to her to visit him at a Star Trek convention. James Doohan invited her to other conventions and talked nothing but nice things to her. After many other conventions he lost touch with her. Eight years later she wrote back to him to thank him for his friendship and how she just finished her Masters degree in engineering.
James Doohan was also a real-life war hero during WWII. He had part of his hand blown off!

The whole cast has numerous stories like that, just not all as dramatic. Quite amazing that a bunch of grinding character actors who joined up for a paycheck wound up with lifelong careers that changed not only people's lives but history itself and may have done more good than anything they'd have accomplished had they been engineers or doctors themselves. That has to be the strangest feeling.
I remember going to a convention in Tulsa, Ok. Not quite sure what year he passed away . But I think it was shortly before.. but I sadly couldn't afford an autograph. So I just watched as others were getting things signed. And this couple came up with a child who as far as I could tell, as I was a bit away, had downs syndrome was my guess. But I was just watching him interact with this kid. And that kid, more a toddler, just lit up at the attention. That interaction always stuck with me that James Doohan was the kind soul I've always heard of.
Fun Fact: Jelico's changes to the ship (Troi in uniform, and getting rid of the fishtank, were actually requests by the cast)
Unfortunate....because space fishtank is awesome, and troi in uniform is boring - and you can blame the writers for the latter, I would rather have had a well-written, realistic xeno-psychologist character on the show, someone who was shown doing real research....anyways, it's pretty obvious the producers got the guinan/troi character switched somehow, and it's absurd - like the bartender should CLEARLY be the sexy one always getting into some drama, whereas the counselor should actually COUNSEL ie. give good personal advice and wring the truth out of people who are in denial and don't want to admit certain things. Troi spends most of her screen time literally stating the obvious - putting her in a proper uniform doesn't address this core issue

It's worth noting that despite the on-screen animosity, Ronny Cox, the actor that plays Captain Jellico, was well beloved while he was on set. And all of the seemingly harsh "demands" he made, like demanding Troi wear a standard uniform, were requests that those actors themselves had made throughout the years on set. He was simply being the voice of the cast that the producers were ignoring.
Jellico reminds me a lot of Commander Shelby from earlier in the series: both were somewhat antagonistic roles without being villains, and to be blunt both were actually more right than the regular crew in the situations they were in.
Yup. Marina Sirtis was particularly happy to FINALLY be able to wear a standard uniform again, and noted an uptick in the writing for Troi after that.
Okay, but that's a line in the script. As nice a guy as Ronny Cox is, it's really a writer or writers who sided with Marina Sirtis to get her her uniform against the inertia of the producers.*

Marina really got to shine when they finally allowed her to portray a stronger character and less a whimpering sex object.

My fave Troi ep is probably the one where she has to pretend to be a Tal Shiar operative aboard a Warbird. While she was kidnapped at the start of the ep (so the whole thing was not really her idea of a good adventure), everything that happens after that is pretty badass.
Huge shoutout for David Warner as Gul Madred, Picard's Cardassian torturer in Chain of Command. He was also the Klingon High Chancellor Gorkon who got assassinated in Star Trek 6, the Terran envoy on Nimus III in Star Trek 5, and Ed Dillinger in Tron. Always an intense and brilliant actor, he passed two years ago last week, may he rest in peace.

And he was reading his lines off of CUE CARDS. He had to come in on three days notice and couldn't memorize his lines. He delivered that performance reading off of cue cards. That's next level.
He also played Jack The Ripper in Time After Time, Evil in Time Bandits, and Amos Hackshaw in Cast A Deadly spell, among probably a couple hundred other things.

I think Captain Jellico is extremely misunderstood. He was brought in specifically because he knew how to play the Cardassians and needed to turn the Enterprise from an exploratory/diplomacy ship to a possible warship in breakneck time. I actually find this episode makes Riker and most of the rest of the crew look like brats who are made their cool dad left are objecting to their new stricter step-dad. Jellico genuinely doesn't have time for a soft landing with them. Riker is the first officer and shouldn't just be delaying orders on shift changes just because it's different or going to be hard to adjust to. Jellico didn't ask him to do anything unethical there.
Also... Troi is a bridge officer and a lieutenant commander... she should put on a goddamn uniform just like everyone else, haha.
At the end of the day, he just has a different way of doing things. And you know what? Everything he did ended up being right and he got the job done. AND he got them give Picard back to boot. He's a good captain, just in a different way.
In Star Trek: The Original Series, Episode: By Any Other Name, Scotty is trying to get an alien drunk. He gets a bottle and the alien asks what it is. Scotty, quite drunk already, looks at the bottle, opens it and looks in it and sniffs it. He then says, "It's green." Data unknowingly does the same thing in Relics when Scotty asks what the drink is. James Doohan lost a finger on D-Day at Juno Beach. They did a great job of hiding it in TOS and this episode.
I wanted to point this out, I don't think By Any Other Name was in the TOS watch list.
The "Aldebaran Whiskey/Brandy" joke has even migrated to other series; River Song keeps a bottle on the TARDIS.
You could actually see James Doohan's missing finger during the holodeck scene. One instance occurred when he handed the empty glass to Picard on the holodeck.

Always found it funny how Troi points out a problem and Jellico says, "Okay, why don't you work on that?" I have a boss who if you make a suggestion he likes, you also just volunteered to be in charge of that.
Yeah well, most bosses (ESPECIALLY military CO's) don't like doing actual work, so it's no surprise that an arrogant jackass like Jellico would essentially just make demands and delegate all day. As troi observes at one point, he doesn't actually have a plan - he's flying by the seat of his pants trying to outmaneuver the cardassians, and if that fails, just try and bluff them.

When I first saw this episode over 30 years ago and Data pulled out that bottle, I screamed "IT'S GREEN!!" before Scotty had a chance to ask "What is it?". I had tears of joy running down my face when they recreated that scene from "By Any Other Name"

Every one of those stories Scotty tells is an episode. “Wolf in the Fold”, “Elaan of Troyius”, “The Naked Time”, and “By Any Other Name.” Oh, and “Galaxy’s Child” is the one Geordi mentioned.
Captain Jellico is one of the most divisive figures in ST history. Captain Picard is mostly explorer while Captain Jellico is mostly military and for the job at hand that’s what was needed. I think he was a darn good Captain.
And right about basically everything, while Riker was being a petulant dick.
Edward Jellico is an interesting character. The first major contrast is despite him being the military guy, he's the one who decorates the Ready Room with his kids paintings whereas Jean-Luc tends to have a panic attack around children. Picard refers to his officers by their surnames even six years into service together while Jellico goes first name basis on day one. I feel like Jellico would be a much more likeable Captain if he wasn't dropped onto the Enterprise in the middle of this crisis, to say nothing of Picard just being plucked away while keep the senior staff in the dark.
yeah Riker was pretty much a punk the entire time. He did not keep to chain of command and was subtely belligerent the entire time. He acted like a spoiled brat.
I'd go so far as to say he's a better captain than Picard. He's in my top three right behind Kirk and Sisko.
The older I get, the more I agree with everything Jellico does 😂
The struggle over how many lights Picard saw is a direct reference to Orwell’s “Nineteen Eighty-Four”, in which a man under torture is told to say - and to believe - that four fingers are really three. The issue there, as here, is control and submission.

Well according to production notes on Chain of Command, Part 2, the interrogation tactic actually originated from reports the writers received from Amnesty International about torture tactics. It was only in the writing process that the writers say they remembered the parallel between Nineteen Eighty-Four and reality. The reality is probably that this passage from the novel was based on George Orwell's experience as a member of the Colonial Police in British India, or of his knowledge of Nazi and Soviet torture tactics from career in intelligence services.

Chain Of Command goes places you never think and is a tour de force two man play in the second part.
Unfortunately the writers also had to alter a character to fit the story. They did it with Geordi in Relics, and they did it with Riker in Chains of Command. Story is competent, but it a bit sad we have to ignore the fact these characters are well experienced professionals.

I met James Doohan in 1987. He was making a family comedy which was being filmed at Royal Roads Military College (now Royal Roads University) in Victoria. I was hired as an extra. He was super nice and took the time to talk with all of us. The project was cancelled after a couple of weeks. Earlier in the year I was an extra on an episode of the TV Series Stingray. The episode was titled Night Manoeuvres.
Patrick worked with Amnesty International to research his part in "Chain of Command" so that he could accurately portray the how torture impacts its victims. He became a champion for them afterwards.
Ronny Cox (Jellico) is also a composer of folk music, and he tours and records. I met him at one of his concerts, good guy. His song "Portales" is a hoot.
As someone who's been to Portales (and yes the one it has to be about) I'll have to check that out.
He also plays a mean guitar. You should see his performance in Deliverance.
For Scotty 80 years in the transporter buffer was instantaneous. For him, he went in a millisecond before they pulled him out.
I don't know. In _Vanishing Point_ Hoshi was stuck in the buffer for eight seconds and to her it felt like days.
To be fair, LeVar Burton was very uncomfortable with the way Geordi treated Scotty.

They often do this. They get a guy who's been displaced from his home and they shove him into these drab quarters alone. There's at least two characters that committed suicide this way - Admiral Jarok and that lad Worf and his adoptive brother accidently let off the holodeck. For a universe that's supposed to be about well being and all the rest of it, they can be cold.

So all of this was done for drama's sake. Just to give a little arc for the characters to go on.
@@RockBrentwood To be fair, it hasn't been 70 years for him. He went in, came out, for him seconds pass, and 70 years for everyone. It'll take some time for him to adjust, and for him, as one of the greatest Engineering Miracle workers ever, would be jarring. But yes, Geordi should have been a bit less blunt, a bit more understanding. And also, you drop Scotty on an Excelsior or Miranda Class, both still in Service, and he'd probably still know most of the systems there.
And there was a scene with him talking to Deanna about the change, counselling him, but it was cut for time. This is why he hugs her on the way out.

For reference, some of the changes that Jellico made (removing the fish from the Ready Room, telling Troi to wear a standard uniform) were ACTUALLY things requested by Patrick Stewart and Marina Sirtis during the previous seasons.
Cassie's reaction to seeing Scotty was everything I hoped for, thanks to the Patrons for picking Relics, it's been on my mind ever since she started TNG, and she was always so happy to see Scotty on the Star Trek Movies. Also just love the moment the ship does that 90 degree turn to fly out of the Dyson Sphere :D

To share a memory. I was a teen and my mom took me to my first convention in the suburbs of chicago. As we were walking around we came upon a small bar setup near the convention hall. Standing there helping set up for a fan meet up was James doohan "scotty" himself. He saw me stopped what he was doing introduced himself to my mom and me talked to me one on one for around 30 mins, signed about 10 autographs for me. He was an amazing person, with a heart of gold.
Fun little fact: the scene where Troi is asked to wear a regulation uniform is actually done at the behest of Marina Sirtis. She was not particularly fond of the wardrobe options for Deanna's character and had not been for some time, especially given her character was the only one that wore such things, and the reason for that was exactly what you would think it was. For this episode the writers collaborated with her to give Troi a reason to wear a regular uniform which she'd continue on with for the remainder of the series.
I met James Doohan at a Star Trek convention back in the 90’s, I believe. He was a really sweet man. In all my moving, I lost the picture I had taken with him, and it’s still something I think about today.
I have to say that, when i was younger, i didn't liked Jellico very much. Simply because he made my favourite characters unconfortable. But the older i got, the more i have to say, that he was right to make the crew more fit for their roles. Yes, mistakes were made on both sides. By Jellico, simply because he forgot, that the Enterprise is not really a military ship and by Riker, because he failed to adapt to this new Captain and command style. We also shouldn't forget, that the Federation was on the edge of a possible new war with the Cardassians. And the Enterprise as the Flagship of the Federation wasn't really prepared for a possible war.
I think you know this already, but you'll be a pretty big little celebrity yourself at a convention. The openness and respect to which you've approached this IP, and the genuine enjoyment and love you've found for TOS and TNG has been sweet to experience with you and validating for thousands of Star Trek fans. Watching someone get past the negative stereotypes of both the show and the fans to develop a genuine appreciation and connection with a franchise centered around human optimism is remarkably engaging. You are the everyman/everywoman that is the Star Trek fan and you've brought a smile to all of us (tearing up when Scotty shows up? Perfectly natural!). I hope you go to the convention and I hope you take the attention, admiration, and applause with grace because you indeed deserve it. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.

Dyson vacuums are named after the inventor and owner of the company, James Dyson.
No relation or connected to famed physicist Freeman Dyson, who worked on the Manhattan Project, and wrote a paper postulating what became known as a Dyson Sphere in 1960. The idea was eventually used in quite a few science fiction stories, along with off-shoots of the idea, such as Larry Niven's use of a Ringworld.
Dyson came up with all sorts of amazing theories and concepts and was one of the greatest physicists of the 20th century. He died only in 2020.
His ideas included a "Dyson tree" that could live in a comet and provide living space for humans, and "Dyson's eternal intelligence," which would allow escape from the heat death of the universe. And so on.
Incidentally Freeman Dyson was still alive when Relics first aired. I hope he loved getting name-dropped by Capt. Picard.
And neither of them are related to Miles Dyson, whose pioneering work in AI can only ensure a bright future for all of humanity, free from petty concerns such as killer robots.

The interesting thing about the Dyson Sphere is the paradox of it; any society with the technology and resources to build one would have no need of it.
Dyson also worked on Project Orion in the 1960s. The original Project Orion (no relation to today's Orion capsule project) used nuclear bombs as propellant for long range interplanetary craft. In testing with conventional explosives, the test craft actually flew. Unfortunately, the Air Force was exploiting the program to build what was essentially a nuclear powered battleship. President Kennedy, fearful of the implications of the classified aspects of the program, canceled the project. In the non classified aspects of the project, missions were contemplated to Saturn's lunar system with arrival in the late 1960s.

Ronny Cox was the perfect casting choice. In the 80's and 90's he was known for playing Villains in science fiction. Usually a slimy scumbag in a fancy suit. He had done this in Robocop, Total recall, and later Stargate SG-1. People crap on Jellico, he's put there specifically so the audience will hate him. But he's not there to win most popular captain. He's pushing them because they may be in a shooting war in the next few days and they need to be ready and it's his job to get them ready. And he accomplishes his mission. He prevents the war and rescues Picard. Job well done!

Just like Janeway always "knew" exactly how to handle a situation, even if her assessment had no justifiable basis. It's easy to have a character be correct when you're the writer of the entire story...
Troi's assessment indicates that Jellico was gambling the whole time though. The real breakthrough was the nebula residue showing where the Cardassians were and where they were going. Emek was sloppy.
Jellicoe blew the entire mission and the smarter, wiser _E_ crew got his ass out of trouble. You just like Jellicoe because you crave bossgirl treatment.

One of the "best" StarTrek series was "Deep Space 9" -- which is where this story line came from. DS9 was one of the best series from start to end. A must watch for anyone that really likes deep stories and over arching themes.
One thing for sure, you will certainly learn all there is to know about Cardassians. :) And for those that don't want to spend 7 seasons, they don't fare well in the end at the end of the Dominion war. Spoiler alert.

James "Scotty" Doohan ,was a lieutenant in the Canadian army in WWII during the D-Day landings, you can occasionally see (in TOS and the movies) that he is missing a finger on one of his hands that was shot off in the war, I also remember hearing a story about him flying a fighter plane between telephone poles during the war because someone said it couldn't be done, and even though he wasn't in the RAF he gave it a try, but that could just be a story he told.
He was an artillery officer and flew an Auster spotter plane.

The Cardassian villian leader was played by the Great David Warner who passed away not too long ago and who you should recognize his voice as Chancellor Korkon in Star Trek 6. Phenomenal actor and to see him and Patrick Stuart, both Shakespearean trained actors was a real treat.

Warner was also the Earth Ambassador on Nimbus 3 in Star Trek V. So, he did 2 classic Trek films back-to-back.
Marina Sirtis wanted out of the pajamas and into a regular uni so having Jellico order it was an easy "reason" to make it happen.
I went to STLV back in 2021 right after the pandemic. It was the first “trek” convention to happen since the shut downs and they had a replica of the bridge. I went back to that bridge multiple times because after the things I’d lost during that year it was like seeing an old friend you never thought you’d see again. I know exactly how Scotty feels seeing her again. Jimmy did a fantastic job in this episode
This episode is one of the few in TNG that really shows what the "chain of command" is like in the real world military. It doesn't matter if you think your superior isn't being compassionate, too mean, abrasive, insensitive, rude, whatever. It's a military vessel, not a cruise ship.
You don't always agree with people that outrank you, a lot of the time you might not even like them as a person. But you are expected to follow orders and complete the mission to the best of your ability anyway.
Some commanders put up the "just get it done" front out of a dislike of appearing weak to their subordinates, some are just like that cause it's what they knew from their superiors when they were climbing the ranks. The good leaders I've worked with knew when to cut back on it and accept input from anyone in a 1-on-1 setting, via an open-door policy. The best ones did the former, AND would make the effort to explain why they did things a certain way when there was downtime.
I've had supervisors like Jellico before, and they bring out the best in some people, they're also the ones most likely (in my opinion) to go to bat for their people with THEIR superiors behind closed doors, identifying "diamonds in the rough" and giving them an environment where they can cultivate their talents.

This can be debated. It may appear that those people are going to bat for their superiors. It could be that they are going to bat more for "the whole". They may have even less respect for their superior but more for the whole, whether it's colleagues, team, department, or institution/company. I've had supervisors like Jellico too and I can't say I felt inspired by them to do my best when you had no opportunity to show what you are capable of.

But your boss does, and goes to bat for you with THEIR boss in a closed-doors meeting). I've had bosses like that in the past and it sometimes it takes someone like that to reach someone who others wouldn't bother with, or couldn't get through to when they tried.

I have read that Marina Sirtis had asked to be allowed to wear a regular uniform and this was a clever way of achieving that. She objected to being singled out as it signalled to the audience that her role was primarily as eye candy.

Funny enough, it was Marina Sirtis herself who requested she wear an actual uniform instead of that getup she was wearing the prior seasons, and it honestly was one of the greatest decisions made. She looks great in full uniform and like she's ready to command. Also, Jellico may have been brash and not Picard, but he was the PERFECT OFFICER for the job at hand. He wasn't there for the exploration side, he was there to either be ready or prevent a war from breaking out. And if war was coming, he was the most experienced there to deal with the Cardassians.
I have always thought the same about Jellico. There was this moment, the first time I watched the episode (many years ago now) where I realized I was supposed to not like him for crossing our beloved characters at a 90 degree angle... but it was clear to me that he was on a mission, and the actor (Ronny Cox) pulled that sense off perfectly. As you said, he was the right man for the job -- a hardass for a situation that couldn't wait for personal relationship-building.
If anything, I was disappointed in our beloved characters for not being better professionals.
I liked her in the Season 4 full green dress.
Marina Sirtis really had a love-hate relationship with her costuming over the first half of the series. On the one hand, she was happy when they stopped showing off her cleavage by putting her in uniform, and she commented about "getting her brains back." But earlier she was kind of giddy over becoming a sex symbol due to insecurities she had as a child.

I think everyone cheered when the Captain called her out on it. She really was hard to take seriously as an "officer" who constantly wore civilian clothes.

This two-part episode immediately preceded the launch of the Deep Space Nine series.
The scene of Scotty on the old Enterprise bridge was both nostalgic and sad. In his mind all his friends are dead and gone, though Spock is still alive but Scotty doesn't know that.
Actually McCoy is presumably still alive unless he died since the first episode.

Cassie, you should probably go to the Con, if only to get a feel for the fan experience, but, if you get the chance, you should also consider traveling to Ticonderoga, New York, a gentleman there has recreated, in exact detail, the entire filming sets from the original show, bridge, sickbay, corridors, the whole shebang, it's open to the public, but on special occasions Shatner shows up there for interactions with fans, on his bridge, think you'd enjoy that

I'm really glad you've enjoyed this season. I hope you start 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' next! The first season of 'Star Trek: DS9' began while season six of 'The Next Generation' was halfway through production. Seasons six of 'The Next Generation' was also the last time Chief O'Brien was a series regular, because he transferred to Deep Space Nine in universe, and became a cast member of that show.

Capt. Jellico making Troi wear the proper uniform was something that was needed. She is an Officer aboard the Enterprise, a Lt -CMD . She was out of uniform. Now when she is in her office, that is another story and she can wear the other outfits. Dr Crusher wears her uniform, and lets face it, Troi is a Dr too, therapist / psychiatrist requires her to have a doctorates. After her wearing the uniform, she looks more professional.

SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT, CASSIE DO NOT READ
After Sirtis got a real uniform, Troi was written more intelligently, and taken seriously. Marina's favorite story is how, in a later episode, Troi is explaining/lecturing about how Romulan warp cores differ from Starfleet cores. Who is she lecturing? Geordi and Data, the two best engineers on the Enterprise.
After the events in "Disaster", Troi took the Bridge Qualification Test and was promoted to full Commander.
The idea is that the Ship's Counselor dresses in casual clothes to be more approachable, instead of the general rigidity of the uniform. Migleemo does the same on the Cerritos. Considering the incredible variety of Starfleet uniforms I don't see her dresses as a big deal. It's more disturbing that the writers couldn't write her effectively until she was put in the uniform.
Your reaction to seeing Scotty materialise was about the same as mine when I saw it back when it first aired. The characters really have a way of working their way into your heart.

The problem isn't what he was saying it's where he was trying to say it. If Scotty wants to talk someone's ear off he could and should have done it when Geordi was off duty or to someone in Ten Forward. If your showing up to a person's place of work during the hours they are working you aren't in the right place to be chit-chatting.

People didn't want to hear what I had to say when I was young either.
Time and a place. Older people have nothing better to do so they want to share stories and connect with people, especially as they lose friends and family to time, younger people have things to do. Work to get done, a life to build. They don't want to hear about the things you did, they want to do those things them selves.

The thing about Jellico is that he isn't a BAD captain. His approach was a little more gruff and direct than what the crew and what we the audience were used to, but his decisions did make sense based on the information he had at hand
Agreed...mostly. The only thing that made no sense was going to four shifts. You have X number of people, billeted to fill every position a third of the day. Forcing everyone to work double shifts intermittently to merely maintain the same productivity - for no good reason - is just stupid.
I would argue the fact he was alienating his entire senior staff by demanding things be done his way and refusing to listen to the advice of the department heads whose JOB is to advise him on how that ship functions is the mark of a POOR commander.

When I was in the USN in the submarine force on fast attacks, we had a 3 section crew rotation underway.
That was supposedly the most efficient way to keep a crew rested with limited availability to accommodate a larger crew.
It was quite an easy schedule to get used to with the only drawback being you didn’t know what meal you were waking up to in crews mess.
Being on a submarine, there was no real need to keep track if it was daytime or nighttime since you can’t really see outside unless you’re looking through a periscope.
I can’t speak for the how surface Navy or even ballistic missile subs conducted their watch rotations and I’ve also read that now all subs are on a 4 section watch rotation but I don’t know if that’s true.
I liked the 3 section rotation because if you didn’t have any other pressing duties you could rack out potentially for 8-10 hours (if you weren’t hot racking and were SS qualified) and get caught up on sleep that you may have been missing out on from being in port.
I’ve come to believe that since he was competently playing mind games with the Cardassian envoys he was also playing mind games with the crew. For their own good.
All the while the Cardassian torturer was playing mind games with Picard.
They are like two grandmasters and the crew got caught in the middle.

As per John Johns, so far the only episode I think you need to watch (not just enjoy watching) is "Brothers", because it leads into not only the first film but also the season 6 finale.

I'm absolutely on Jellico's side. He didn't have time to be comfortable with the crew.
Also Troi wears a uniform from this point forward because Marina Sirtis requested to wear one. This episode was a good opportunity to make the change.
Jellico had one job. He wound up doing two and did them like a boss. Getting Picard back was not a mission goal.
@@ortizmo I agree. Ryker was willing to risk the mission to save Picard - Jellico completed the mission AND saved Picard.
I was with Jellico on not risking the negotiations to get Picard, but his insistence on changing the whole shift structure of the ship right as they began a sensitive mission was stupid and controlling and petty. Riker's right: he inspired no one and sucked the joy out of the room. He knows the Cardassians very well and he's a great tactician, but he's not a great captain.

It's one thing if he tried to compromise with any of them about anything but all he did was double down on my way or the highway. Sometimes he was even indicative about it.
The story was written in such a way to make him right but likely with his attitude problem he would have overlooked half the stuff he noticed in the show.

For someone who did not grow up watching Star Trek you have become really emotionally involved with the characters and you understand the lore and the plots on more than just a superficial level. You are probably my second favorite reactor for Trek stuff on RUclips. Great job in other stuff too.
