  • Am I Sleepin' On Mac Miller? I only know TWO songs by Mac Miller and I enjoy both of them, so I figured why not make an Am I Sleepin' video on Mac.
    Comment on the video do you listen to Mac Miller, do you not care about him? What are your favorite/least favorite songs from Mac?

    Fight the Feeling is a song about vices….specifically women and drugs. It can be interpreted two different ways, one you cannot fight the feeling of the pleasures that those vices (addiction). Kendrick’s part is a second interpretation where you’re self conscious about what you personally feel is missing in yourself, pushing you toward drugs. Also Miller talks about how kids look up to him but he feels that he isn’t the person they should look up to due to his demons and basically passing that pain onto others (like yourself) through his lyrics. He also explains how kids are growing up in this world naïve, not knowing how shitty things can (and most likely will) become. This song is one of those songs where you can’t look for the meaning, it’s one of those “oooooooh I get it” types of songs. You don’t get it at first but when you get it, you get it and you love it. Hopefully, this may help somewhat because it’s more to decipher from both verses

      You're the only person that has even ATTEMPTED to describe the song to me 👏👏. Everyone else I ask either avoids the question or says "I don't know what it means, I just love it cuz it sounds good" lmao.

    Mac is underrated overall. Eminem is definitely a unicorn in hip hop, and unfortunately that puts everyone in his shadow. Mac really loved rap. You can tell he studied, and he put his heart in it. He's definitely part of the hip hop family.

      100% agree. I grew up with Eminem and have been a stan my whole life. However, once I discovered Mac, he took that number 1 spot for me. Having struggled with alcoholism myself and the first album I heard from Mac being Faces he was instantly so relatable to me. It really shocks me how underrated he was and still is even after his death. Smh RIP Mac.

    • @YerpDerp17
      @YerpDerp17 2 года назад +8

      Literally, the only thing they have in common is their skin color and they write rhymes. The comparisons stop there. Mac took a whole different approach to his music. Not only lyrically but sonically. The ways he plays with melodies, uses live instruments flawlessly, and drastically changed his sound every album put Mac above Eminem to me. His lyrics are far more poetic, and Eminem is shock value punchlines. Mac never tried to recapture his earlier sound, and Eminem has been trying for a decade now. lol Eminem is highly talented, but he also came out during the perfect time, in the perfect climate. Eminem is the better rapper, and Mac is the better artist. In my opinion. Eminem is like sheer anger, and Mac is like processing and understanding that anger. lol Two totally different vibes, and as I get older, Mac fits it far more than Em.

    I jam out too all of his stuff, I find each one of his songs hit different depending what mood you’re in (atleast for me they do) when I’m happy and energetic I bounce to the beat and the power of self care/perfect circles which would be classified as some of his sadder songs but they definitely have an energy to them almost like bombs going off. Then when you’re in a mood where your more under the weather the songs almost get you lost in the groove and the lyrics, letting you know these things/feelings happen in life and it sucks now but it won’t suck forever ♾ they’re very comforting in a way! I was definitely sleeping on Mac Miller before he died!

    Just to compliment about the Self Care music video, the first part of the vid is a reference to the movie Kill Bill vol. 2, in case u haven’t watched that i don’t wanna spoil the movie lol, but the buried alive thing, the memento mori writing and punching your way out from beneath are all references to that movie and some topics from that movie relate to the theme of Self Care (remembering you can die whenever, and letting your demons go), so Mac was using the visual language and some references from a movie that’s huge in pop culture to relate it to his own message and that makes Self Care even harder in a way

    I get not all people are not gonna love all the music they hear. I just know for me and my situation I can relate to his music so much, his feelings towards his vices like drugs and women he captures it with words in his music. Mostly his later projects. And everything I could try to put to words with how I feel about it he says it perfectly, so I said all that to try and explain the moaning 😂. I personally like it but not for no freak shit, but he loves love. In general he always talked about love and his woman that he first fell in love with and ariana who he was also in love with. And like he references in many songs that women are gods (look to God Is Sexy Nasty) after experiencing love and having it end, listen to fight the feeling and the ending for the first time it just brought me back to those intimate experiences. Now I'm not Mac sure I could be wrong, but knowing how much he talks about women, how much he loves them, how it's a vice for him, and how much he talks about love. It's just a flashback for anyone that has experienced that love, especially after the subject matter in the song. So I can understand how random it is without being in that thought process but I know it just brought me to tears after a breakup that meant a lot to me. I know that's a lot to read but it's an explanation

    I remember listening to his album Circles, but can't rly remember anything from it. All I know about Mac is that his music seems to be depressing as hell like you said, and I'm rarely in the mood for that unfortunately.
    However, I really love the song Off The Table by Ariana, where she sings about if she'll be able to love someone the same way again like she loved Mac before his untimely passing. That shit hits hard asf man 😢RIP Mac Miller gone way too soon

      Have you ever taken the consideration of listening to 'KIDS'?

      I personally find the mixtape to be his most 'happy' project since most of the songs have this vibe to it

    Mac is more than a rapper. He is a true student of the game. Obsessed with all music. He had the most spiritual growth I’ve ever seen in a artist. 100s of unreleased songs on SoundCloud. Ik you all about the rap so check out headaches and migraines with Dave east and look at me with Earl and Kevin gates

    This video came in to my recommendations I think because I listen to so much mac lol. Mac Miller is one of my favorite artists, he’s helped me out of a lot of dark places. I wasn’t always a huge fan, though. I was a kid during his frat rap era and I’m still not a huge fan of it, Donald trump is an incredibly annoying song to me unfortunately. Everything macadelic and after though feels so real to me and I’ve listened to it back to front (besides divine feminine, for some reason I can’t get into it.)
    Mac Miller makes the debate about white rappers a lot more interesting, at least to me. Without him, you basically have Eminem and them “rappers” who are either pop stars (post Malone, even though I like his music you can tell he’s not a “rapper”) or people like MGK that are using hip hop to make money without having any respect or love for the genre. Mac, though, everyone loved him. He really loved hip hop, even in his frat era, and he was more than just a rapper. A singer, a producer, a musician, a good, talented person overall.
    Mac produced under the name Larry fisherman. He made some beat tapes but I think his work as a producer is stolen youth. Him and Vince staples work so well together.
