I only know this because I’m from Birmingham Alabama, he’s from Birmingham Alabama, and at that time we had the most idol winners (Ruben Studdard in 03 and then Hicks in 06. Honorable mention to Bo Bice who was runner up the year before and Diana DeGarmo who was runner up in 04).
Second I heard his audition I knew he was a winner.

There must be multiple censored versions of Ride Wit Me because the last time I heard it on the radio the lyrics were censored, yes, but they were replaced by the sound of inhaling and exhaling, like he just lit one up and smoked it.
The reason why something like Despacito can chart so high is cause The Latin Community really support their own. Even 6ix9ine is seeing that success as of now, he said screw rap lol. Artists like Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Becky G etc… are huge, if you’re curious, check out some of Latin Artists and their RUclips Views when you get a chance. I personally am not as in tune with everything in that Latin Music scene as far as news and all that, but they really go crazy over there in support and they make really good music that i enjoy.
