It's a 10/10, but not even clearly the best album of the past 3 months, just a top 10 album? You have that many 10/10's in just 3 months? 10's not worth all that much with scales like that
Fam if ur ready to give an album a 10/10 but ur not declaring it more than a top 10 album of a year less than halfway through the year ur way too easy on 10s. 10s shouldn’t even be dished out yearly. They r very special, I’m not sure there r even 10 albums in all of music history I would give a 10 (in reality it is probably about 10-15 but idk Man U have to be pretty extreme). Only the best of the best get that rating. Something has to be on a different level. Amazing doesn’t mean 10/10, super creative and mind blowing doesn’t mean 10/10. 10/10 is an accolade saved for the most special of albums. The albums that blow your mind but stick with you. The albums that you can’t stop thinking about for years. The albums that change your perspective on music and life. That’s a 10. That’s a to pimp a butterfly, that’s a dark side of the moon, that’s an ok computer, that’s a in the aeroplane over the sea, that’s a the black parade, that’s a disintegration. I respect ur love for this album but u gotta alter ur ratings systems. Also this comment was not meant to be mean or confrontational I was just tryna speak my mind on the topic. All power to u king or queen or non-binary monarch💪💪.
I got so much love for Denzel, there aren't many artists today that would sit down with someone like Anthony and be this vulnerable & honest. They're both huge inspirations to me.
Bro I can't imagine me having a conversation with this dude. His mind moves differently. Taboo was my favorite album of that year and Melt My Eyez is on the same track
i like melon but god he needs to appreciate the conversation a lil more man... denzel dropping some heart felt shit and fantano: "... okay. There was this one time[blah blah]"
for me personally, Anthony is my favorite interviewer. he knows exactly what he's doing and people like me appreciate that. he's the polar opposite of someone like Vlad who talks about himself too much w/o giving his guest the space to talk themselves
I think Anthony really grew as an interviewer, it seems like he actually listened to criticisms from when he was first starting interviews and made changes, it really shows
this album is dope. welcome to the era of psychedelic rap. Denzel is officially leading the way. Thank you for all the realness and honesty and vulnerability you put into this project. It really is a huge step in the right direction for the genre.
defo agree with the fact that it's a step in the right direction for the genre but Denzel is defo not the first to get on this psych-rap wave look at Rocky and Travis back in 2015. Love
Anthony, im in your walls haunting you forever for giving a 6/10 to that album. I will forever be under your skin, like ants, in your walls, scratching them until you decide to change your rating
Really respect how much he’s evolved since ZUU, which was a fun album but a little light weight nd superficial for me. This album feels like he’s expressing something real rather than just flexing and partying. He almost sounds like a different person. Really impressed, looking forward to listening more.
Zuu was that South Florida sound. It felt more like a love letter to the area. Felt like 2006 again, the Heat won their first championship and people still thought Rick Ross actually sold cocaine.
Soo I might be a bit right "Melt my eyes see your future" is a great metaphor to a lyrical idea of "sacrificing himself to help others find there futures" this album was a masterpiece I could see it at 9/10 to 10/10 this album was on the Kendrick Lamar levels of outstanding. This generations tpab. Thank you Denzel for coming at this with love, thought and care. I'm gonna go back to listening to this album for the 12th time. Edit:been listening to this album over and over again i still see it as the kind of writing and introspective of tpab (sacrificing your mind to help others through tough times)but I saw that i put the best songs up first and swept away the more meh ones (jon Wayne) after careful thought I can't see it as great as tpab. But it is still a great album more of a DAMN but i am excited to see where Denzel goes in The future cause if he keeps going the way he is one day we will get an album on the same level as tpab (still hoping for a deluxe on this masterpiece).
Kendrick levels 😂. It's your opinion, but I have to disagree on every level. I'm not feeling this one as much as other people are. Like a 7. Second half is weaker than the first, and I think the features are just kind of ok
40:19 "automatically she calls JID. she was like 'JID's in town' cause um...JID was just...there in town for some reason" idk why i could not stop laughing at this
I love Kendrick Lamar, don't get me wrong, he's one of the best in the current game.....but for me, I've always preferred Denzel as my top rapper of the 2010s, and that stance just keeps getting stronger and stronger for me with each new track he releases. We're still early in the 2020's but Zeltron is still my favorite current rapper.
It takes a strong person to be so vulnerable and open about their struggles, especially live in front of thousands of people. Mad respect to Denzel and Melon.
the narrative "artists owe their fans everything because the fans made them who they are" needs to die. No your favorite artists don't owe you shit. Sure you listened to their music and supported them and I'm sure they are grateful for you. But none of it would be possible had THEY not created the music to begin with.
I want to be friends with Denzel. He’s funny as fuck, but also he’s highly philosophical and very thoughtful in everything he does- just hearing the metaphor of “melt my eyes” tells me the dude is constantly deep in thought. He seems like the type of guy I could talk to for hours on end.
he is very funny n cool to be around, i got to hang out with him surprisingly after a show during the tour and he had me cracking up n he even put me on sum old school shit before my time. made me wish we hung out more
We need more poetic rappers like Denzel curry to give out this type of knowledge like Tupac did and with what he’s talking about is facts our music now is so influenced into mainstream media and hiding what no one is talking about in todays agenda so big props to DENZEL CURRY for this amazing piece of work
The self awareness of denzel is so refreshing. I wish people were this knowledgeable about their strengths and weaknesses regarding anything they do in life
denzel kept it g this whole interview. the passion he has for his craft and taking care of his mental health is evident. he mentioned the whole abused topic, and almost wanted to take his life & seeing him almost teared up really choked me up. he's really letting it all out and being vulnerable with us. im happy he's doing better cuz he's easily the best and most consistent artists of our generation period. ULT🔥🔥🔥 taboo helped thru my break up in 2018 and this album is no different. even more mature and well fleshed, congrats, denzel deserves his flowers frfr
TaBoo was an incredible album . He's not matched that for me ever since unfortunately . TaBoo still feels new where as his newer projects feel dated as fuck to me . Can we just please stop with the boom bap 90s rap beats . This is no hate on Denzel C But this sound is just making him irrelevant in the scene he helped create . It's a huge shame . This mans lyrics are incredible but the beats he's on now aren't it at all .
I’ve been getting killed lately for sharing this opinion. It’s like he just used us as a stepping stone to get famous. Then left us in the dust claiming he “outgrew or matured” past his old sound and now makes boring ass music. We can’t let him get away with this, I need the Black Metal Terrorist back
@@justincase7504 the thing is, like he said, he doesnt want to do the same thing, denzel doesnt make music for his fans he makes music for himself, if he doesnt feel like doing something hes gonns try something new yknow, and also most people do like the album from what i've seen. Plus he did that 90s type stuff back on nostalgic 64 and a track on planet shrooms
I actually hate how people describe this new album as Denzel at his most "mature". Because to me, they seem to be mistaking the word "mature" for "soft" or "not loud". As if Denzel has never been mature before. It's so dumb to me.
I think what people mean by “mature” in this album is how Denzel approaches his personal life. Sure, he’s covered mature topics before, such as suicide, death, sexual assault, religion, and police brutality, but for Melt My Eyez he’s approaching these topics in a much more thoughtful and vulnerable manner, compared to his previous works like Imperial or TABOO where he talks about his traumatic experiences in a much more angry and frustrated state of mind. In Melt My Eyez, Zel finally seems at peace and fully accepts who he is and is ready to move forward and improve himself, which is why people refer to it as “mature”.
I agree. He’s just farther a long in his healing process than he was which is what I think people are referring to, but his anger was a necessary part of that process. It’s not immature to be angry about the terrible things that have happened, but it’s good to see him moving forward.
@@RJ-mi3ck Yeah. I think in terms of writing lyrics, yeah this is him at his most grown, I now realize. Something that I've always enjoyed about his approach to trap is how mature it already was, but when it comes to personal growth, I've never thought about it like that.
As someone who has been listening to this dude for the last 7 or 8 years it trips me out seeing all this love for Denzel and all the content out there, I just turned 14 when I found out about Raider Klan and SHWB and all that on RUclips and SoundCloud. Back then he was a really mysterious character there wasn’t much out there about him. The music influenced me so much and made me feel such an unexplainable type of way, now listening back to that old era of songs that feeling is still there but with a great nostalgic feel where I can’t help but reminisce on those rare times. I’m glad he’s where he’s at now and glad he’s shared about his life because I’ve always been curious.
What he saying at like 15:40 is so true. Saw him in Charlotte on the 1yr date of X passing and it was like a spiritual experience for the whole crowd. I think I even remember Zel saying something like "I can tell alot of yall here needed tonight" when he finished playing Look At Me at the end.
I appreciate so much what Denzel is doing for music and can't wait to see what he comes up with. I think the real soul of hip hop, the thing that separates it from other genres, is that it comes from such a love and sense of honor for its musical roots and incorporates their sounds in a way that's familiar, but that gives you an appreciation for the music that inspires it. It's a versatile genre in ways we've only barely seen tapped into, and Denzel is on that frontier, always trying to push new boundaries, but not in a contrived kinda way. Wasn't aware the album was out, can't wait to listen
I've only got love, respect and admiration for Denzel, man. He's a warrior for pulling through so much that he has/ still dealing with. I'm happy that he's still here with us after having found himself again. It's great and relieving seeing him well and in a good space.

I haven't heard another fantano interview where the artist is so passionate about how the album was made, what each step along the way looked like.

Besides the album it’s good to see Denzel in a better place at the moment, I think the people who understand his music don’t care that we are not getting the imperial and taboo style now and are just happy to see Denzel doing well and trying different sounds.
Excellant interview anthony, great questions as usual... 8/10
“I got attention for yelling. I don’t need to yell anymore” - Denzel Curry said in a calm tone
Melt My Eyez is a 9/10 tbh, Iʼm even ready to give it a 10. Itʼs a Top 10 album of 2022 so far.
It's a 10/10, but not even clearly the best album of the past 3 months, just a top 10 album? You have that many 10/10's in just 3 months?
10's not worth all that much with scales like that
Melt my eyes is the best rap album of all time.

Well done fantano, you can tell curry respects you as he really went in to depth with these answers. Great questions by the way
i like melon but god he needs to appreciate the conversation a lil more man... denzel dropping some heart felt shit and fantano: "... okay. There was this one time[blah blah]"
for me personally, Anthony is my favorite interviewer. he knows exactly what he's doing and people like me appreciate that. he's the polar opposite of someone like Vlad who talks about himself too much w/o giving his guest the space to talk themselves
Sean from Hot Ones
I think Anthony really grew as an interviewer, it seems like he actually listened to criticisms from when he was first starting interviews and made changes, it really shows
Nardwuar.
@@johnnyfree yeah, I don't think he was ever bad, but he has come a long way still
Vlad who?
I know Denzel is changing from album to album but I didn't expect him to change into Fantano at 11:10.
this album is dope. welcome to the era of psychedelic rap.
Love

Really respect how much he’s evolved since ZUU, which was a fun album but a little light weight nd superficial for me. This album feels like he’s expressing something real rather than just flexing and partying. He almost sounds like a different person. Really impressed, looking forward to listening more.
Zuu and unlocked were fun projects. Check out Taboo and Imperial too
Zuu was great but deffy was one of his smaller projects, melt my eyez is definitely one of the mainline albums tho
Zuu was that South Florida sound. It felt more like a love letter to the area. Felt like 2006 again, the Heat won their first championship and people still thought Rick Ross actually sold cocaine.
To be fair, all of ZUU is freestyled. Denzel goes back and forth and the high concept and the casual banger projects
0:42 Denzel is so elite he could talk without opening his mouth
I'm anti-organised religion, but i'm pro-Denzel Curry. So, more power. ✊
What do you mean?
fool u leading the religion of denzel curry at this point u gotta keep running w it
Soo I might be a bit right "Melt my eyes see your future" is a great metaphor to a lyrical idea of "sacrificing himself to help others find there futures" this album was a masterpiece I could see it at 9/10 to 10/10 this album was on the Kendrick Lamar levels of outstanding.
But it is still a great album more of a DAMN but i am excited to see where Denzel goes in The future cause if he keeps going the way he is one day we will get an album on the same level as tpab (still hoping for a deluxe on this masterpiece).
wouldn’t go as far as saying as good as TPAB but definitely IGOR and other 9/10s
@@gillielad355 facts
Kendrick levels 😂. It's your opinion, but I have to disagree on every level. I'm not feeling this one as much as other people are. Like a 7. Second half is weaker than the first, and I think the features are just kind of ok
To me the benchmark is still Atrocity Exhibition
Maybe Damn level but not Tpab.
funny how the conception of MMESYF was planned out on my birthday
What a lovely conversation. Love you both ✌

idk why i could not stop laughing at this
I love Kendrick Lamar, don't get me wrong, he's one of the best in the current game.....but for me, I've always preferred Denzel as my top rapper of the 2010s, and that stance just keeps getting stronger and stronger for me with each new track he releases. We're still early in the 2020's but Zeltron is still my favorite current rapper.
Same!!!
Denzel Curry da 🐐 no 🧢
It takes a strong person to be so vulnerable and open about their struggles, especially live in front of thousands of people. Mad respect to Denzel and Melon.
Zel is the one who put me on Portishead so hearing him embrace that sound more is so damn cool.
THIS WAS UNEXPECTED HOLY FUCK
AND CONGRATULATIONS NATE
the narrative "artists owe their fans everything because the fans made them who they are" needs to die. No your favorite artists don't owe you shit. Sure you listened to their music and supported them and I'm sure they are grateful for you. But none of it would be possible had THEY not created the music to begin with.
“even zatoichi which you didn’t like”
The fact denzels hoodie is his friends EP to give it a shout out man. This guy is a legend. Also the album is before the night is over by anonymuz
Really great interview, lots of wisdom and vulnerability; much appreciated. The album is also fantastic can't wait to see what's next for Denzel
Denzel should be so damn proud of himself for this album. Amazing, amazing stuff

Classic interview, big Denzel Curry supporter/admirer 👌🏾
We need more poetic rappers like Denzel curry to give out this type of knowledge like Tupac did and with what he’s talking about is facts our music now is so influenced into mainstream media and hiding what no one is talking about in todays agenda so big props to DENZEL CURRY for this amazing piece of work
CAN NOT wait to see Denzel live in London! Roll on May 4th.
The self awareness of denzel is so refreshing. I wish people were this knowledgeable about their strengths and weaknesses regarding anything they do in life
It’s so crazy finding out about Denzel from your N64 review. Years listening to him for it all to come full circle right now
53:36 I'd be really interested to hear Denzel talk about what he considers the "Filler" tracks on his previous albums
Wasn’t a huge fan of the album first listen because of its contrast to past Denzel curry albums, but it gets better with each listen. Great project
denzel kept it g this whole interview. the passion he has for his craft and taking care of his mental health is evident. he mentioned the whole abused topic, and almost wanted to take his life & seeing him almost teared up really choked me up. he's really letting it all out and being vulnerable with us. im happy he's doing better cuz he's easily the best and most consistent artists of our generation period.
This is no hate on Denzel C
But this sound is just making him irrelevant in the scene he helped create .
Denzel Curry is a genuine, pure person all in all. One of the few guys in hip-hop I wish I could be friends with. Such a rad guy
Love hearing how deliberate and thoughtful Denzel Curry is. Thanks for sharing this with us!
i really wish he got baby keem on xwing! it could of been cool because it fit keem's style
Tyler on Worst Comes to Worst woulda been nuts too
I actually hate how people describe this new album as Denzel at his most "mature". Because to me, they seem to be mistaking the word "mature" for "soft" or "not loud". As if Denzel has never been mature before. It's so dumb to me.
It is matured though. Not because its soft. Its in his pen. He has gone to another level lyrically.
Ayo you already know. When you right you right!
WE WANT THE FREDDIE GIBBS INTERVIEW
“Including zatoichi, which you didn’t like” lol
I wonder what he was gonna ask
JID really went from DiCaprio to Scorsese and I love it 😂
the GOAT 9/10 album
Denzel is seriously one of the underrated in the game.
Melon finna do a whole interview with Denzel and drop a strong 7
I appreciate so much what Denzel is doing for music and can't wait to see what he comes up with. I think the real soul of hip hop, the thing that separates it from other genres, is that it comes from such a love and sense of honor for its musical roots and incorporates their sounds in a way that's familiar, but that gives you an appreciation for the music that inspires it. It's a versatile genre in ways we've only barely seen tapped into, and Denzel is on that frontier, always trying to push new boundaries, but not in a contrived kinda way. Wasn't aware the album was out, can't wait to listen
Shoutout to Denzel being open about mental health and promoting therapy and self-improvement.
I've only got love, respect and admiration for Denzel, man. He's a warrior for pulling through so much that he has/ still dealing with. I'm happy that he's still here with us after having found himself again. It's great and relieving seeing him well and in a good space.
11:11 it was at this moment that Denzel Curry dropped the mask the reveal he was Fantano the entire time
I have always had a high amount of respect for Denzel Curry
I like how Denzel seems like a real person. Hope that doesn't change. Success can lead people to lose touch and become something else.
"you have all this success, but can't enjoy it because you're depressed." that's the most depressing thing I've ever heard.
