Just wanted to say man, I've been self teaching myself guitar for about half a year now and I really appreciate how you teach how songs are actually played. I've watched a lot of different channels and its nice to know I can simply go to one of your lessons and trust to be shown the correct way to play a song. Great shit man and again, really appreciate it.
thanks for saying hey Johann and for the vote of confidence :) I promise if you watch enough videos you'll find me make some mistakes :P (just don't tell anyone...) but seriously, glad to be of help to you, thank you for being here mate.
I dont mean to be offtopic but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb lost my login password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me!
@Magnus Jaxtyn Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thought it was so cool that the first 3:45 of the video, it didn’t sound like Even Flow because he was playing it so slow, but as he built up speed it because Even Flow and it was awesome
Ryan Lendt well you're my Stone, I'm a pianist that knows all about aeolian and the rest of the circle of madness, lol, I'm a keyboard player that really wishn' that I was the guitar player in my band, lol. Love the way you think and teach, btw, we need a second guitarist, and a bass player. We're a cross between Evanessence, heart, and Metallica all smooched together. I'm the lead singer in an original band that has recorded a couple of demos and are planning to record our new stuff in a couple months. We are from Vancouver 🇨🇦. We're in the midst of changing our name from zephyr blue, because so many other bands have labeled themselves as such. But, if you type this: zephyrbluereverbnation pleasure over, you can hear an example of our previous work. We did most of the these demos using anolog dats, and although the second half was digitally mastered, we ended up hating the cold hard sound and ended never promoting it as it was mostly done in one take. The bedding tracks were simply unusable due to shAbby music ships and I ended up using a drum pad to get some kind of meter. Sorry for the bitchsession, but, we need a solid and tight, exiting and funny band mate such as you or perhaps someone else that you could recommend that is close to Vancouver. Rock on. You had my sub from the start, Awesomeness ....... Period. 🎸🎹🎼🎤
Ryan, you're my favorite RUclips song tutor. I like your clever sense of humor and obvious love of your subject. When I need to learn a song, I always search your catalog first. Thanks!
I remember when this song debuted on MTV introducing Pearl Jam to the world and I instantly loved them and always will. Thanx fir the lesson, great video
yep. inspiration used to hit me in the bones whenever i'd happen to turn on the TV and there was a pearl jam performance of some kind on. And here we are :)
Ryan you truly are brilliant you don't know what kind of gift you have to be able to bring us the teaching capabilities that you have dude it would be a honor to have you for a legitimate teacher
By luck youtube allowed me to find your channel. I really enjoy your ability to dissect the unorthodoxed music of my teenage years and present them in a way that makes sense AND is playable to us weekend warriors. Honestly, thank you making me revisit these songs that were a soundtrack to my youth. Subscribed & notified
Man I love your lesson..I like this song a lot and I thought is hard to play ,but the way you teach it gives courage to try it to learn it Thank you very much 🤘
WHAT'S UP LET'S PLAY ALL! I greatly admire your effort :) If I ever make it over the pond, or you ever make it over the pond (hopefully we don't do it in reverse directions at the same time lol) we shall have to take over a pub and host an epic jam :)
Ryan Lendt Cheers bro! We’re clearly kindred spirits 🤘 Haha yes indeed mate, that’s a deal. I’ll call ahead to make sure neither of us is in the air at the same time - we can’t have that, there’d be no one left on earth to teach PJ songs! 😀🤘
I’ve been watching the Pearl Jam tutorials both you guys have been posting for a while now. It’s great to see you’ve acknowledged/found each other. You are the go to guys imo. Keep up the great work fellas 👍
Wow Ryan, you blew me away with this tutorial. You made a difficult song look easy. I’m nowhere near this talented, but for a moment you gave me hope that it’s possible someday. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks Ryan, I was on my way to see Pearl Jam live in London tonight, however it has been cancelled as Eddie has lost his voice. I am now sitting in a pub by myself watching your videos for comfort. Thanks Ryan for your support during this dark time.
oh man! wow, what an indescribable letdown! I bet Eddie is very heavy hearted over this... I'm SURE he'll make it up to you :) I fear I got the short end of this stick however, unless of course you fed the phone an ale ;)
It's amazing how such a small thing can make such a huge difference. One of the many reasons why I love music. Would love to see you do Mind Riot one day, if you haven't done it already :)
I have enjoyed many of your videos on Pearl Jam guitar parts. Very helpful. As was this one. The Open D tuning on this one was a revelation to me. Then I noticed that Stone switches guitars after the song, and the ringing chords he plays in several places definitely fit Open D. Wow. Learn something new every day. :-) I know Keith Richards used Open D a lot on Beggars Banquet. Very useful tuning -- as Stone obviously figured. :-) Have a great day.
I laughed at 5:01 cause oh my god, Stone knows who you are now! That continues to be mindblowing and I'm sure 1000x more so for you. Thanks for the lesson, great as always!
Thanks, sensei. You’re a pretty great teacher. That’s from one teacher to another. I really enjoy watching your lessons, even if I already know the song.
Never cease to amaze me Ryan, tuning and all makes this make sense to me so no wonder why I gave up on this so long ago. Look forward to more and hopefully one or both of my request for Runaway Train and/or Misery from Soul Asylum in full. Thanks again Ryan.
Love your channel ryan, i’m a big pearl jam and mother love bone fan, evenflow is one of my favorites, picked it up in about three weeks just playing in spare time to unwind from work. Thanks
Man, even if I fck up every single time learning a song through one of your videos (because I just get lost at some point and stop trying) it's just entertaining as fck to watch your videos. Keep doing Pearl Jam songs though! Greetings from Germany :)
Cool man iv been playing for 35 years and I just found your channel, it’s always cool to find a good teacher nice job bro I will be sure to watch more of your videos... again thx you have good chops
I get that this is an instructional "how to" video. But from purely a tonal perspective, humbuckers do this sound a lot of justice. I would recommend using a Les Paul with humbuckers. Humbuckers tend to have higher output with more low-end that will give you a warmer, thicker tone. Over the years, Stone has primarily used a LP when playing Even Flow live. Ranging from vintage Goldtops to more current Historic R9's and a R0. (59 & 60 reissue LP's) In recent years, Stone has also used a Strat on occasion live for E Flow. With his live setup, amps, pedals, he makes it work with single coils. However, that's quite complicated and pricey to pull off for your average guitar player or someone who is just getting started. For example, I know at one point he was using a Klon Centaur. As many of you know, these pedals are now ranging between $3,000-$4000. This is not to say that you can't get close with a Strat and several effect pedals. Just from my point of view, for the average player, I would recommend trying to use a Les Paul for this one. This is just one element of tone but will get you closer. I hope this will help anyone just getting started or anyone just unsure and may not yet know what Stone used on the record and live. Cheers everyone, peace.
Thank you for that giant chunk of information :) I think a lot of folks will find that very informative. My Les Paul (well, it's a shecter PT with a USA tele neck and les paul pickups) didn't fare too well in the move and needs to head to the shop for a neck readjustment. Otherwise I would have used that. But I just got the bug to do even flow and it couldn't be stopped!
Very good, my list is getting as long as yours.... here’s another one please. Civil War by GnR on acoustic please. I’m getting excited, I’m off to see Pearl Jam on Tuesday!
OMG say hi to everyone for me! and have a great time :) I know Civil War - I did it with Marco! and just so everyone knows, I have an ex-gf who lives in NZ
You fkn rock buddy.. Do you ever ply with a band? I mean you must rock out! You are so good, I KNOW you're not just limited to guitar tutorials. Where can we see you rock out on stage?

Some useless info: I believe this song was written by the great Stone Goddard a long time ago while sitting at the base of the Seattle Needle.... wonder if he realized what a hit it would become? Man I bought tabs on this song musicnotes.com and they got it wrong man you got it right! If only you or others sold tabs ..I like learning from tabs bro and the guitar center tabs didn't work (were not written write either). So I will practice your way dude, see if I can match the timing. Nice work.
Stoney G. himself has informed me that this is correct - how DARE they charge you money for bad information! (at least when I get it wrong it's a free video...). I know what you mean though, I too prefer to read stuff at my own pace rather than watch a video. At any rate, I'm really glad you found this helpful Paul :) I did do a follow up video on the chorus FYI.
Just wanted to say man, I've been self teaching myself guitar for about half a year now and I really appreciate how you teach how songs are actually played. @Magnus Jaxtyn It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thanks so much, you saved my ass !
Thank you! You're the best teacher on RUclips. I'm not even lying. Bless your health, bless your family. You're a great man!
bless you friend.
You’re a brave man and a brilliant teacher! Love it
Thanks Randi :)
Right around the 4:00 mark, when those rando opening notes suddenly speed up and become "Evenflow", is just youtube GOLD! Thanks Ryan!
I'm really glad you enjoyed that Gabe, thank you :)
Thought it was so cool that the first 3:45 of the video, it didn’t sound like Even Flow because he was playing it so slow, but as he built up speed it because Even Flow and it was awesome
exactly! after dissecting this song I can never hear it the same again. it's even cooler than we suspected :)
Ryan Lendt well you're my Stone, I'm a pianist that knows all about aeolian and the rest of the circle of madness, lol, I'm a keyboard player that really wishn' that I was the guitar player in my band, lol. Exceptional work Jam master. This penguin is pumped for pearl jam on Monday and Tuesday in London
ah! so many of my friends going to PJ this week! I love it! Thanks GP :)
I started watching and I'm listening like it's clearly not right. Then you play it at full speed and I'm like, oh damn. That sounds right! Crazy!
the exact process I went through only in reverse when picking it apart :)
Man I love your lesson..I like this song a lot and I thought is hard to play ,but the way you teach it gives courage to try it to learn it
Thank you very much 🤘

Thanks Ryan, I was on my way to see Pearl Jam live in London tonight, however it has been cancelled as Eddie has lost his voice. I am now sitting in a pub by myself watching your videos for comfort. Thanks Ryan for your support during this dark time.

Best. Lesson. Yet.
Thanks!
Aw thanks Martin :)
Thanks again, finally u unlocked my fave PJ song
yay!
I can't believe this one hadn't been done before! One of their best
I wholeheartedly agree! I was being timid...
Amazing, Ryan! Thanks for this.
Those two open A notes have completely changed how my ears interpret the entire song 👌
I KNOW ME TOO!!!!
It's amazing how such a small thing can make such a huge difference. One of the many reasons why I love music.
Would love to see you do Mind Riot one day, if you haven't done it already :)
Mind Riot = on the list :)
I have enjoyed many of your videos on Pearl Jam guitar parts. Very helpful. As was this one. The Open D tuning on this one was a revelation to me. That bridge 10-11-12 is so great to play
I love that bridge :)
You’re awesome!
thanks Max!
Awesome job.
hey thanks Eithan :)
Amazing as always, next you gotta do the solo from the alternate version of this song, the one with the “Wah!” In the beginning
the radio version attached to the video? that solo is WAY better than the album version!
Ryan Lendt oh yeah, definitely!
Great inspiration thank you
thanks so much Brandon :)
Can you do Mike’s part for Even Flow, please?
yeah i do need to do that
Cool man iv been playing for 35 years and I just found your channel, it’s always cool to find a good teacher nice job bro I will be sure to watch more of your videos... again thx you have good chops
thanks so much for stopping by Albert! I heed and admire the time you've put in :)
My man deserves more recognition and fame!
You're here Storm, that's plenty for me :) But thanks!

You should do Jeremy. I can't find anything on the rhythm part.
I should and I definitely will :) thanks Marcus!!
I already knew how to play, but I do have a few new licks and little touches that Mike played.
Oh man the Mike part I feel totally daunted by. That'll be a journey!
Why do I watch this I can’t even play a single note
go get yourself a guitar and suck until you don't Hussy!
Because he is extremely entertaining to listen to.
Pick up a guitar and give it a try. It's how we all learned
The beginning is the hardest part.
Never underestimate the power of persistence
In the Chorus when you go from D to B flat make a minor chord shape and the pull off your pinky and ring finger to the B flat chord
yep, I've made an update vid just for the chorus because I ran out of brain juice that day :)
ahhh.... at last ive found someone who nailed it.
:) thanks Gaz
Very good, my list is getting as long as yours.... here’s another one please. Civil War by GnR on acoustic please.
I’m getting excited, I’m off to see Pearl Jam on Tuesday!
Justin Taylor Lucky man, have a good time
Lucky Bastard !! I wish Pearl Jam would come back to New Zealand
You’re the lucky one living in NZ!
Justin Taylor yes it is a hidden paradise. .. you're not supposed to know we're here 🤔
OMG say hi to everyone for me! and have a great time :) I know Civil War - I did it with Marco! and just so everyone knows, I have an ex-gf who lives in NZ
Ryan, you are awesome, now I can play it correctly 😊
I'm so excited to hear this Mister White :)
You fkn rock buddy.. Do you ever ply with a band? I mean you must rock out! You are so good, I KNOW you're not just limited to guitar tutorials. Where can we see you rock out on stage?
haha thanks Clint! you can hear my music on your streaming service of choice - Ryan Lendt & The Leavers. not much rocking out though I'm afraid :P
Youre a great translator 👍
thanks friend :)
Is the solo also played in DADADD?
nope
Very nice.
thank you sir :)
Thank you so much for this! 😋
you're very welcome :)
I was wondering when this song was going to get requested. Great lesson Ryan. Some useless info: I believe this song was written by the great Stone Goddard a long time ago while sitting at the base of the Seattle Needle.... wonder if he realized what a hit it would become?

There is NOTHING useless about that information. I can't wait to do severed hand! I like how people think I'm in control of these things... the tortoises decide what song comes next ;)
Ryan Lendt's a doggone national treasure.
great now I have to talk like Nicholas Cage in all my videos. Thanks a LOT!
This is a request for Hands All Over by Soundgarden, or as I've come to know it: "Slow Even Flow" :)
hehehehehe
Leaving here
already did it! check the PJ playlist - or maybe the songs eddie has covered playlist

Star dog champion by mlb please!!!
ruclips.net/video/y1XhylxLF5I/видео.html
I'm going to see them on Monday in London (sat at the back, but who cares! I'm there!) I'll shout for Even Flow for you Ryan! :)
any at a PJ concert is better than any other seat in the entire universe - have fun J!
Cheers Ryan!
Muito bom! Parabéns!
hehe aren't there parabens in chapstick?
hehehe! "Parabéns" is "congratulations" in portuguese Brazil language.
Great channel!
I'm a Pearl Jam fan and I play bass guitar.
I play in a Pearl Jam tribute band called "Bugs". The site is www.bugs.mus.br .
The band has existed for 20 years.
Your Rats video helped me. Thank you!
In the future if you can, make the video Animal.
I play it on bass guitar, but I'm not sure it's correct.
Hug!
wow your PJ tribute band has been around for 20 years!!??
that's amazing!
animal bass on the list - it's a privilege to be speaking with you :)
Yes! Long time hehehe!
Thanks!
I feel grateful. :D
I have learned that you can pluck the low D and A strings while playing that riff, you know?
Is there like actual lesson i can take by you?
Thanks for asking PNG - a bunch of folks have asked lately, and since I have the time now (post CA studio) I'm working on putting a booking thingy on my website - check back at ryanlendt.com when it strikes you and maybe i'll have completed the task :) I'd really enjoy that!
You look really 🔥hot🔥 in this vid, Ryan😍
Great lesson, btw.
hey thanks Jade :)
Man I bought tabs on this song musicnotes.com and they got it wrong man you got it right! If only you or others sold tabs ..I like learning from tabs bro and the guitar center tabs didn't work (were not written write either). So I will practice your way dude, see if I can match the timing. Nice work.

I know what you mean though, I too prefer to read stuff at my own pace rather than watch a video. At any rate, I'm really glad you found this helpful Paul :) I did do a follow up video on the chorus FYI.
you can also just tune to Drop D. no need to mess with the G B and E strings.
true, but then you can't play the nice meaty chords for the chorus, just power chords. Having said that, that's what I do when I'm feeling lazy :)
type in "stone centric" in you tube. best visual of stone doing even flow.
I love that video. Never came back to revisit the chorus... someday...
This is not a TV studio Josh! Turn those lights out!
IT'S A F*&ING ROCK CONCERT (poor josh)
@@RyanLendt Lol
I love u. thank youuuuuuu
awww thanks Paula!
At the 5:06 mark....ahhh, yes he does😀
I'm just gonna trust you on that one :)
Sorry 5:00 mark
Dude, love your stuff. The only thing I ask: do a quick preview play of the track, before you get into the pedagogy.
Thanks John :) I assure you the reasons why I cannot do that are many and valid, though I appreciate the suggestion.
He does now
damn i hate that when you have to retune for a song i need more than one guitar
everyone needs more than one guitar
100%
👍👍👍👍👍
rawk
Great lesson, but my favorite part is around 5 minutes "Not Stone & me....'cause he don't even know who I am"
;)
11:20 snow drop
