Hi. I received a grade 9 in my recent literature mock and my teacher has always advised against having a paragraph dedicated to form/structure as it makes the examiner believe you are throwing it in there for the sake of it (e.g. the same way students always make irrelevant contextual references at the end of paragraphs because they know they must use context). Instead, it's more beneficial to use form and structure where it fits, e.g. to back up a point in your argument, this makes your response more professional and "conceptualized".
@@justsomeone5660 i think what they mean is try not to make your essay follow a super strict structure, so if you include context make sure that it flows nicely with the point you’re trying to make so that it doesn’t look like you’re just chucking it in there for higher marks.
While that is good to do. It would also mean you will now have to think of a whole new paragraph to do with the literary methods, rather before u can only focus on structure. A bit more effort and may seem tedious and repetitive in your work. I always have been taught to make a pg dedicated to structure but yeh. u do u bro.
Hi! I’m in year 11 and taking history, art, drama, French and triple science for gcse! My advice is DO NOT FALL BEHIND WITH YOUR ART please rush ahead. That may sound really ominous but when you’re doing mocks and actual GCSEs you can get really caught up in revision like this and forget that your art is also requiring revision for your composition design or final response. Although you may prioritise certain subjects art is a great one to do when you want a break from your essay revision. I would do 30 minutes of a boring subject (for me that’s science) and then 15 minutes of art giving a healthy balance to go off of for future reference like in your job or at college. To be honest I’m taking GCSEs with a pinch of salt because they show you how you will eventually end up organising your life in the future. It shows you how you will juggle regular life with work.
@@艾钰 it depends on what you’re struggling with. If it’s the written side of the subject revise like with any other subject using your playbook and practise papers. The questions shouldn’t be that hard as drama is a mostly physical / activity based subject. If you’re struggling with devising or scripted try watching some RUclips videos on how to get yourself into character or practice your lines when you have nothing else to do.
These videos are saving my life at the minute 😅 I did my y10 mocks a week ago and watched most of your videos for each subject and they're sooooo helpful❤ and got a grade 8 in my literature :)
I've got to say this video was absolutely amazing! I was really struggling to figure out the main structure so it would be effective in my exam and this helped so so much. My teacher was so vague and it was very confusing, but this was concise and write to the point. Thank you for making this video it was really helpful! I will be fully prepared for my exam now even though I'm aiming for a 5 or 6 not a 9. Again thanks so much! I will definitely have a look at some of your other videos too!
I have an English mock in like a week or so. So I think this will really help. I've seen many videos about 'how to get top marks in GCSE papers' but they're like 2 hours long. The fact that your videos are short makes it so much worthwhile. I'm crap at English and will probably get a grade 4 or 5 but I really hope that your channel will help me even if it is just a little boost
My teacher postponed it until tomorrow but I did my poetry today. I think it went well. I wrote 2 pages though but I didn't finish my conclusion because the bell went. Although, there was 9 minutes left of the 1 hour we had so hopefully we get that extra time next lesson or something. Thanks for the support though guys 😀

I struggle so much with finding language and structure techniques, do you have any advice 💕 thank you for these videos btw they are truest life savers and give a little motivation even though I’ve lost all of it
I have some tips if you dont mind me sharing: - dont skim over the text but make sure there's an active voice in your head. this makes you notice things like alliteration, sibalance and onomatopoeia more clearly - look for words such as "like" and "as". this normally indicates a similie - in poetry, pay attention to where punctuation is placed because this can indicate enjambents or caesuras - practice indepentdantly finding techniques whilst revising rather than relying on your teacher or study guides because this will build your skill in time for the exam hope this helps!
For structure techniques my teacher always says: imagine you have a camera on you and you're moving. Where do you zoom in? Zoom out? Etc. Talk about the change of focus throughout the text. Then you're going to need specific examples to quote. For that, just go on a hunt for dialogue, repetition, foreshadowing, flashback, one line paragraphs, short vs long sentences and underline it when you see it.

Does repeating sentences lose marks? With your example: "One way in which the author makes this extract memorable is through..." or "A further way the author makes this extract memorable is through..." You've repeated the same sentence. Will that lose marks?
Nope! As long as you talk about different points e.g. "...through the description of the moon" and "...through the title and structure of the poem". That is merely sign-posting and actually helps the examiner quickly identify your arguments.

Hey! I did french last year (I was in yr 11 In 2021 and got an 8) and honestly I’d use something like quizlet for memorising the vocab and then write a recall/check list such as “house and home, weekend activities, future aspirations” etc depending on your spec topics. Then do active recall for all the verbs, adjectives and nouns for that topic in different tenses that you can remember (e.g to drink= boire, I drink= je bois, I drank= j’ai bu) looking back at the checklist you made so you don’t forget topics. Fill in gaps in your knowledge in a different colour to see what you struggle on (for example I struggled with the imperfect tense and past tense) you could make a summary sheet for a specific tense and review these before the test but ensure it’s condensed notes. repeat this active recall until you see an noticeable change in how much you can remember. As for listening/speaking I’d say peer revision and ask your teacher if they have any listening files or past papers for you to practice, if not I used to use the speak function on google translate for words I was unsure of and my school subscription to memorise. I hope this helps in some way :))
For writing and speaking, make sure you know useful phrases that u can put everywhere (e.g. me apoya - he/she supports me, me hace reír - he/she makes me laugh etc. ) My teacher also gives us idioms which will impress the examiner and you can use for lots of topics like habra por los codos - which is a saying that means she talks a lot or somos uña y carne which is a saying that means we are very close. Things like this mean whatever the question, you can add advanced structures/ language. :)
do you have a minimum page number that you try to stick to? i always feel like i try to write a bit too much to fill out certain page numbers. even though my teacher seems happy with my length of writing, my hand definitely disagrees (and I've got 2 papers on the same day so that's even worse)
at least 2 sides or so for each question in literature paper 1… i did 1.5 in poetry papers. Don’t stress too much, quantity ≠ quality and everyone has different handwriting
yes you can! that way, you can easily adapt it to the question you are given. also make sure your thesis is a general overview of the play/poem/text and include context, writer’s purpose and the era it was written so the examiner can see that you understand the play and you can hit all the AOs instantly! Hope this helps x

As a person who got a 5 on the mocks which is a high pass in America, I personally didn’t have any time to study it cuz of how sudden it was and how slow I was studying so I did last minute studying on the day and trust me it’s harder said than done legit remember the title a couple quotes 1-2 is enough and just yap your heart out GCSE’s incoming and I’ve moved up to top set and rn I’m sitting on a predicted 7-7 another good grade
Hi I was wondering how many quotes you usually have for each point because my teacher strongly wants us to follow this specific layout: intro, 3 paragraphs ( 1 point and 1 evidence (quote) for each) and a conclusion. However I seem to be struggling to analyse a single quote for an entire paragraph. What do you think I should do?
When you analyse a quote you should see if the quote has language features such as similes, metaphors, hyperbole, rule of three, repetition, anaphora etc. Yo should read the paragraph and circle or underline the language features that you can see then put it into your writing. Hope this helps.
@@cluelesslily4455 Its best if you have quote for a paragraph but you can have at least 2 quotes per paragraph but maybe not three because you want to separate your ideas by putting it into paragraphs.

@@justsomeone5660 just read novels in general that have advanced langauge and structural techniques etc. I cant name a few of the top of my head but if you read a sample and there are words you do not know when reading, that is a good indication. When writing stories, using techniques and grammar is half of the fishing rod. For hook line and sinker you need that advanced volcabulary weaved into the metaphor, similie short sentances etc. For GSCE what I did was write basic structure for my story that I could adapt depending on the word they gave for Question 5. They give a image to describe and a word that usually says Write a story about "Abandonment". ive got my eng lit gcses in a month, and when i say its my worst subject. im weary about it because ill come out of previous eng lit exams confident, and then turns out i get a C. ive also been sitting on a C and its genuinly so hard to improve but after watching this it gives me hope that maybe i wont get too low this year😭😭
As a person who got a 5 on the mocks which is a high pass in America, I personally didn’t have any time to study it cuz of how sudden it was and how slow I was studying so I did last minute studying on the day and trust me it’s harder said than done legit remember the title a couple quotes 1-2 is enough and just yap your heart out GCSE’s incoming and I’ve moved up to top set and rn I’m sitting on a predicted 7-7 another good grade
is this exam for the 19th century novel and the modern prose drama (paper 1) ? or the Shakespeare play and unseen poetry (paper 2) ?
What percent do you need for a level 9?
this helps thanks!
Where do you find them pages and how do you write on them
Do we not need a thesis statement then (intro) became I’ve been told it’s necessary
Alright why am I getting recommended these English gcse videoes when I finished this 5 years ago 😭
HAHAHA
Hey guys
I have exam on this in 8 hours 😢😢😢
do you have have any good websites that are helpful
@@JosieBean. ooo tyty do you usually have 1 quote per paragraph or 3 quotes per paragraph?
@@cluelesslily4455 Its best if you have quote for a paragraph but you can have at least 2 quotes per paragraph but maybe not three because you want to separate your ideas by putting it into paragraphs.

read books. best way to improve your writing and essay skills
What about creative writing? Also, pls suggest me some books. I have like approx 5 months left for my gcse english exam, I'm giving it in November
If you want I can send you a google drive link to my story i used in my lang gsce to get 30+/40 so you can get the gist.
Ah, thank you so much! Sure, I would love to see your story structure. Will u put the link here in the comments?
Pls reply, my exams r soon :/
