    The Harvey look great, but I agree, the numbers dont justify the price. I'm kinda surprised so many people have jumped onto the Harvey train. Maybe it works better than the specs indicate? Who knows, but it looked like you would be cleaning filters on that thing ALL THE TIME.

      Yes, it was just the numbers for me. I knew what CFM and static I wanted. Looks like a great machine though. Nice to see a new approach.

      Completely agree you your assessment of the Harvey. I owned a G700 for 1.5yrs…I went through the exact same debate, but decided to get the Harvey instead of the Oneida because I liked the design and thought I could fit it in my shop a little better due to the form factor. It is a really clever design and the fit/finish are excellent (with a minor exception being the filter clean out port assembly). I ended up selling the Harvey last month as it just doesn’t have the capacity for a wall-hung duct system. If you directly connect the G700 to a single tool via a 4” hose, it does okay…but, it isn’t really close to the suction you would get with the 3hp Oneida. I am probably going to purchase the Oneida 3hp, which is what I should have initially done. I was a little concerned with the non-metal material the used to make the dust separator. However, from the video, it looks like it’s pretty good quality. I wonder how it will hold up over the years compared to all-metal designs? I guess I’ll find out soon enough…. :) thanks for making the video.

    Looks like a great unit. My system is a Super dust deputy with a 2hp blower and a 55 gallon drum I had someone 3d print a few custom fitting to make it all work. When i am planning it fills my full size drum up really quick! A full drum also mostly fills up the green garbage bin.

    • @BlakePizzey

      Yes... the small bin scares me. I was 1" short of fitting 55 gallon. We will see how much it bothers me. Might need to find a solution for something larger.

    Blake, I think your approach to the way you make your content is simple, clean and direct. I am reaching out to ask a few questions as I’m in the market of acquiring a dust collector. I’ve been lucky to use others shops and do a lot of awesome things. But it has come time for me to venture out on my own. Are you satisfied with your choice of DC or would have you wished to opt for a Dust Gorilla pro model? Seeming how that has 23” of WC and about 1649 cfm on the 5HP model. You’ll be happy with the hammer my buddy just got his delivered yesterday.
    I can also share some insights with regards to other brands and companies Ive spoken to if you wish to add that information to your follow up video. I appreciate the content and time to respond. I thought as you did the Harvey is a cool concept but all the materials being ran over the impeller especially metal would be a safety concern not to mention real time CFM and WC at the tool. Anything you wish to share is appreciated as I’m at the purchase point. I’ve spoke to laguna but the only thing I’ve ever been told to buy from them is a bandsaw as they make the best ones.
    Prospective Laguna buyer: An just to share some new intel they are in the process of launching 3 new DCs a single stage and revised PFLUX and CFlux units. The recommendations were buy the new PFlux, buy the old CFLux. Specs are the same. They are just making feature changes. I asked mainly about the PFlux which stated they are adding a auto flapper, lights in dust bin and instead of a 5 piece container it’s now going to be 3. But I will openly say the difficulty of getting a hold of the sales rep and what not is pretty true.
    Just hard because very little non-bias information is available to help make this decision why I’m reaching out.
    An thanks for making us all use that thing 3ft above or A** 😂….. stay warm and look forward to seeing the content you push out.

      Hi JB! Thanks for the comment. One day I would like to get a 5HP dust collector but the current shop (ceiling height) and finances don't allow for it... personally I wouldn't go smaller than 3HP and on the flip side I don't think you can ever over do it as long as you pipe it correctly and don’t choke a large collector.
      I looked seriously into the Laguna P Flux 3HP, Oneida V-System 3000, Oneida Supercell, Harvey G-700 and CWI DustFX DCP030H. At first I was in love with the Laguna and almost bought it immediately. But after reading a few forums and seeing Matt Cremona’s one year review of his unit I was off that train. There are about 20 dust collectors that have the same general design and cyclone profile. From what I can tell all these machines have poor separation and lead to a quickly clogged filter with limited air flow at the tool. The Laguna is branded really well and looks great but in the end it's more or less the same machine as the other “stubby” dust collectors… Maybe I’m being too hard on them but that's my opinion!
      I don’t think I would venture beyond Oneida or Clear Vue. They appear to know the science of dust collection. Having said that, I like those Harvey units but I wouldn’t go smaller than the G-800 and at that point you're talking about some serious cash.
      I hope that helps and hopefully I don’t offend others who have those machines and are reading this… I should mention that I went 5 years with nothing and 2 years with a ¾ HP unit :)

      @@BlakePizzey Thanks for the reply and I truly do appreciate it. I’m absolutely not in a rush to make a decision but trying to see what I wanna do financially and in the long run.
      Totally agree if I were to go Harvey it would be a G800 or higher but at $6k it’s more of a am I selling pieces that are $3K every month than it’s a justified purchase. But example bourbon moth paid $16K with nord fab ducting etc.
      Truly an this has been said by many woodworkers that I respect or know that have been doing this for 20 years or more have said you only want to buy a bandsaw from laguna there customer service is horrible and they truly know it. No disrespect to anyone who may have this equipment either but after talking to the sales rep he even admitted the lack of filter cleaner they are adding to the new PFlux is definitely needed as it will improve the units collection. The product launch is early next year but the reality is it won’t hit the market till Feb - April.
      I guess at this point I’m just waiting to see your testing video and go from there. Your the closest to the only unbiased information with regards to dust collection. I’m just kinda asking is and you answered if you could go a model up would you. An it appears that’s a yes. But as with you 💸💸💸. That was really my main question. Besides the motor heating up the space and overall noise levels. But if you have questions for me ask away. Thank you again. 🍻
      The main highlights of the gorilla pro over the V3000 are these
      V3000:
      Leeson Motor
      1349 CFM at 2.3” WC (Water Column= Pressure).
      Decibel wise quieter due to the resin casting of the cyclone housing.
      Gorilla Pro:
      Baldor motor with variable speed.
      5HP model 1625 CFM at 3” WC.
      Decibel wise louder due to metal cyclone housing. Oneida states 80-82 decibel.
      Comes bare wired but Nema 6-20 plug compliant per rep.
      $1000 more 💸💸💸💸
      I look forward to the follow up video. An your details on the engineering aspects that truly matter with all of the marketing materials that most would get caught up on. If any one could break it down it would be you 😁.

    Great video! Curious, do you use this system with smaller tools like a random orbit sander? Or do you have a separate extractor for that? I’m considering the Supercell, in part because it’s supposed to work well with the smaller tools too.

    • @BlakePizzey
      @BlakePizzey  Год назад +1

      Hi Sam! I almost got the supercell and I think it's a great solution for hobby shops like ours because often you can use it for large power tools and hand held tools . However, it's not ideal for tools that require a larger volumetric flow rate (CFM) like a 12" wide jointer. I do not use my dust collector for small handheld tools that require very high static pressure ("suction ") and lower CFM. I use a dust extractor (shop vac) with a small cyclone on it for hand tools. Hopefully that helps!

    • @Sam_Francis
      @Sam_Francis Год назад

      @@BlakePizzey Ok good to know, thanks! My most troublesome tool is a 6” Ridgid jointer. I’ve been told the Supercell should handle it fine. Its dust collection chute is very leaky though, so I’d need to make sure to seal up all of those holes to make up for the lack of CFM. The money and space savings are other key factors in this decision. It’s tough making compromises on such an expensive thing 😅

    How many volts are was that outlet? Is it a regular 120 V or do you need to run a dedicated 240 V outlet

    • @BlakePizzey
      @BlakePizzey  9 месяцев назад

      It requires a 240V. Running it on a dedicated circuit is a good idea as it will most likely be running when any of your other 240V tools will be on.

    I'm curious if you thought about getting the supercell over this model? Seems like a perfect fit for your setup...

    • @BlakePizzey
      @BlakePizzey  2 года назад +3

      You bet and it was tempting. The sales rep was really pushing it too. My final selection went 1) V3000, 2) Harvey G700 and 3) supercell. I looked seriously at about 5 different units.
      In Canada the price between the V3000 and Supercell was next to nothing. However, they recommend the V3000 if you have any equipment with a neck size of 5" or greater AND will run more than two tools at once. This statement from Oneida leads me to think that the V3000 would out perform the Supercell on a single tool. I also couldn't accept that at 10" wc the supercell only has 400cfm while the V3000 has 1000cfm.
      Sorry for the long answer, part of me still thinks it might have been a good solution given how small my shop is. BUT I do have a jointer/planer combo coming soon so maybe it was the right decision...

So basically my working time for wooding is spring and fall as summer is almost too humid and winter too cold. I have a basement that isn't finished so I thought...hmmm. I have an older Oneida dust collector that is the v series but it's orange. The issue is it's so big and heavy with the 3hp motor. I just saw this supercell and was like...hmmm.
