Thanks man!! Yeah, I've been lucky to fish next to some friendly and helpful people lately; and I always try to jump and help others when they hook up. 🙂🙂✌️🎣
Yeah, pretty crazy! I mean, it could have definitely been a coincidence... But I'm sure there are tons of sculpin at the bottom of that river, and I'm sure the salmon get super annoyed by them! 🙂✌️🎣
Yo Kev!! Yeah man, these sockeye are crazy powerful and acrobatic!! And... Super tasty, haha!! I was pumped about the new species, Slimy Sculpin!! 🙂✌️🎣
Haha, I nearly slipped on those rocks about 20 times in two days of fishing there!! But I did prefer the way the water flowed in the area I was fishing... I was able to get the weight down quickly and had a good feel for the bottom there. Was this video at Moose Meadows, or is Moose the next public rec stop down from where I was??
Haha, Sockeye absolutely bite at flies when irritated. I literally watched 4 sockeye on the Russian turn and snap at my fly. If you need to floss them to catch them, you do you. But I neither have the leader length or the amount of weight needed to floss, especially in that current. You're assuming because you floss, and so many other people do, that I am... but it's not the case. 🙂✌️🎣
i know sockeye bite. in clear water i've caught them. but they were not biting in this video. the vis on that opaque water is 4-6 inches. and your fly positioning is classic set for a floss. I've been fly fishing about 35 years. you are wrong here. you'd have snagged as many with just a bare hook. ruclips.net/video/AT5GnFfTRZQ/видео.html @@KevinRapkochFishing
@@sdufg nope; I didn't even have enough weight to drag on the bottom. I felt the sockeye bite and pull on the fly for both catches; I simply set the hook hard (you know by watching the video it was not a flossing motion), and hooked them in the mouth. How would the fly be on the inside of the right side of the mouth on the salmon that took a sculpin if it was flossed??? And the hook was on the bottom of the mouth; classic hook placement for a fly that was chomped down on! You've been fly fishing for 35 years... you should know that! Physics, man 🙂
@@sdufg hahaha; I was using floating fly line!!! Wow!! You want me to have been flossing so bad that you're just making up your own details. Think about that, man. It's pretty sad.
Thanks for watching! Make sure to check out my other Alaskan Salmon, Trout, and Grayling videos from this summer!! 🙂✌️🎣
As nice as salmon get, Amigo. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks for watching, commenting, and sharing some positive feedback, my man!! Tight lines! 🙂✌️🎣
Great video! I always love to see fishermen helping each other out on the river like this 👌 awesome fish!

What a joy to watch you catch those CRACKERS! 🔥 Superb fishing my brother, enjoy eating them!!! 21 species on the list! 😁🤘🎣
Heck yeah, thank you Dee!! That sculpin was an awesome surprise!! 🙂✌️🎣
A sockeye hit a sculpin pattern!? That’s awesome!!! Great video!! Those filets look so red and good!

That actually looks like a coho in the video! Were they cohos?
@@Yourmom-pl5ly I've been told both; I'm not sure anymore, haha!! 🙂🙂✌️🎣
Great!
Spectacular!! 🙂✌️🎣
I was at Upper Moose Meadaows on Thursday - lots of big fish. Saw limits in as little as an hour (3 at that time)
Dang, very nice!! Yeah, the salmon are definitely starting to move through in big bunches! 🙂✌️🎣
Those salmon are so acrobatic, great stuff Kev! And congrats on the new species sculpin cool little guy 😎👊🔥

Do you like fishing Moose Meadows? I tend to trip over the big rocks next to the green net!

Yeah, it's a great drift, but I got tired of tripping on the rocks! Enjoyed your video!@@KevinRapkochFishing
@@Alaskahuntr thanks man, I appreciate it! 🙂🙂✌️🎣
When was this filmed?
@@carlamurdock2761 Hi, it was filmed in July of 2023 🙂✌️🎣
Where did you buy your lure?
I think I bought those in Utah for brown trout fishing; I put some links to some similar flies in the description of the video 🙂✌️🎣
you do realize those fish are not biting; you are just flossing them. You could put on a bare hook and you'd still snag it in the head.

You are using weighted fly line. You understand what "weighted" means, right? It sinks. lol. @@KevinRapkochFishing
