- Joey, Cooper, and Matt went to Kenai, Alaska to fish for Sockeye Salmon (Reds) at the mouth of the Kenai River with huge nets called dip nets. Commonly called "dipnetting" is a form of fishing available to Alaskan residents. We fished on the south beach at the mouth of the Kenai River. As the tide comes in and out, the fish flow with it. We take our large nets and put them in the water. When a fish swimming by goes into the net you drag it back to shore with the fish inside.
Dipnetting license allows for 25 fish for the household leader and an additional 10 fish for every household member after that. Between the three of us we had a total of 115 salmon to catch! We had four days of fishing to try and reach our limit! We did not quite meet our goal this year, but came awfully close with a combined total of 93 fish.
We ride down the beach to where we fish on a side by side. We bring with us filet knives, table, coolers, and fresh water. Once we catch a fish we gut it and place it on ice. When the fishing slows down between tides we take the opportunity to filet the fish, de-rib the filets, clean them with fresh water, and place them on ice. Once we return to camp we rinse the fish one more time and pat them dry. We cut them down to smaller sizes and use vacuum sealers to keep the meat clean and sealed until ready to be eaten. The filets then go into a freezer with ice until we return home, split up the haul, and load our garage freezers up!
Enjoy as we take you along with us to the mouth of the Kenai River in Alaska to dipnet for Sockeye Salmon. Experience our side by side ride down the beach, catching salmon, and processing the fish to be ready for the freezer. One of the many incredible experiences and opportunities Alaska gives us to sustain our family with fresh wild meat away from the grocery store.

It was an amazing time and a beautiful location. We are lucky we got as many fish as we did for our families 😁
@@alaskalifestyle yeah so blessful you have that place,,,love it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have fished the Kenai! But this I never seen before! Probably because I never seen the mouth of the river! Cant beat hook, line and sinker though 😂
Totally agree, the fight with a fish on the rod is a completely different experience. Dip netting is fun but with the goal of filling the freezer with food quickly. We will have some rod and reel time next year to share with everyone.
Where do you guys camp and able to drive a sxs into the beach?
K Beach Campground! We did a video with the owner. Super awesome people and great location!

😎
Do you know how much i pay for that in Minnesota 😂😂
Actually we don't, what is the average cost for you?
How do you even call that fishing? Lmao! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’d place it under the category of fishing. Not quite the same as rod and reel, but it certainly is a great way to fill the freezer and provide for your family!
@@alaskalifestyle I understand, yeah I would not want do that too regularly, I would only do that when I’m craving for salmon and you should already know, there’s more fun, excitements and thrills catching em on fishing rods. I’m the food hunter I catch and cook my catch and would also like to try this once and only once for new experience. I’ve been to Alaska in the early 90s in Dutch harbor and we would go snag silvers. Good job man thanks for uploading/sharing.
There’s certainly more fun and exciting ways of catching them! No doubt. Dip netting is for Alaska residents, so it’s something we take part in because we do eat a lot of salmon throughout the year. It’s really to fill the freezer. It is a good time hanging out on the beach with your friends though!
