"When the Death Star was destroyed, about half of the 501st Legion was still in the hangar getting to their ships. Of those who made it out, another third were caught in the explosion. I'd fought with some of those men for over twenty years. Afterwards, those of us that survived hooked up with a nearby Imperial fleet making a retaliatory strike on the Rebel's base on Yavin 4. It wasn't the best thought out plan, but we were cut off from our leaders, tired, and operating on instinct. If not for our training, we probably would've never gotten past their orbital defenses. Frankly, I don't remember much of the fighting. I guess we won."
I most likely had the exact same reaction as you did Victor when first hearing about this. But basically, Dodonna thought it would send a strong message to the galaxy if they didn't flee their base on Yavin IV. That said, they evacuated their heavy equipment and things that couldn't be evacuated quickly, but left the rest there. Funny enough, Thrawn wanted to attack immediately, but the Emperor and Vader were happy to wait, blockading the planet after the loss of the Death Star. Vader particularly wanted to make an example of Yavin using the Executor, and it almost worked to perfect...except for Admiral Griff. There is a lot more in there, but that is my bare-bones understanding of it post-Battle of Yavin. :) Thank you for watching Victor!
The worst is that at first there were several holes in the empire's sector blockade... So many that small fast ships can go in and out without many problems and even take pot shot at isolated fleets curiously enough.
ImperialistOpinions For real. Tarkin is pretty good, but having Thrawn’s and Vader’s high intelligence and tendency to create amazingly unorthodox plans is something that’s invaluable to the Empire!
This is a great idea! I thought about different what if scenarios considering if Thrawn never went to the Unknown Regions quite a bit while making this video, so adding a bit more to it might be a lot of fun! I'll see what I can do. Thank you for watching PAP!

Tarkin? You mean Thrawn? Rebels is Canon and they decided to make Thrawn Canon. I don’t think any of the Legends stuff with Thrawn is connected to the Canon stuff.
I love how in the book "Choices of One" Thrawn advises Vader on what type of planet the Rebels would hide on based on what weapons they stole from the Empire, which were T47 airspeeders, SURO-10 power generators, a KDY DSS-02 shield generator and Atgar P- tower laser cannons that were primarily cold weather equipment and how Vader, now knowing what equipment and weapons they were using could prepare his forces accordingly to counter them.
Grand Moff Ardus Kaine's Scourge Squadron of the Executor class SSD Reaper and 25 Imperial Star Destroyers also performed similar oppression measures in Oversector Outer while Grand Admirals Pitta, Batch, and Zaarin pursued their own projects to strip advantage from the Rebellion's Starfighters and alien recruiting bases.
So if the Empire uses hyperspace-ramming, nothing happens except the ramming ships’ destruction. If the Rebellion uses it, they OBLITERATE a ship many many times larger than the one which rammed...
Pretty strong message refusing to move Yavin base after KNOWING for sure the Empire knew where that once secret base was. I'd personally still had it moved though unless they'd taken precautions and steps to have some nasty surprises waiting for even a large fleet of Imperial SDs an their support craft. Which they had to know would be coming back sooner or later longer they stayed on Yavin. Hopefully what measures they took evened out the odds some when the battle finally came. That I'd hope they knew was coming sooner or later But it seems now we finally know how Hoth Base was found now, or at least I do, many others probably already knew.
Should have blitzkrieged them instead. Costly, yes, but benefits in hindsight would have shown a huge difference. Odd name though, Death Squadron. Was expecting that to be a hyper-elite fighter squadron, not a battlefleet.
Well we are going to see the canon and we will see Thrawn's face after he find out with horror that Tarkin is death with the death star explosion while Anakin saves Ezra right after the battle of Yavin 4 because he senses that Ezra tried to Jill Thrawn with Purgills during the Libération of Lothal after we saw the plot twist in the Mandalorian season three if Dave Filoni will Made possible star wars rebels season 5 set during the original Trilogy and we will see how Ezra had done after his separation with Ghost Crew 8D
Is there a reason the Rebels were able to stay on Yavin IV for so long after ANH? The Empire knew where they were, how could a large fixed position stay there in the face of Imperial firepower? Why couldn't they just orbitally bombard it with Star Destroyers? In Canon they had to abandon it immediately.
General Dodonna has gotten senile in his old age it seems. Not immediately abandoning an base known to a far superior enemy just for psychological and propaganda reasons? Really?
Imperial admiral : hyperspace into Vader's flagship!
Darth Vader : Im gonna have to stop you there!

You see, hyperspace ramming didn't work here cuz friendly fire was turned off. ;)
Wait, the Rebels stayed on Yavin IV for 6 months instead of immediately starting the evacuation after the Death Star blew up?
In Legends yes, bizarrely.

Gotta love the Classic Star Wars comics, even if they have wonky pacing.
Vader and Thrawn are like peanutbutter and jam.
My honest opinion: just leave everything to Thrawn. The number of other competent commanders in the Empire is not as great as it should be

Mac Welch the plot armor is strong with the rebellion
Definitely along with a better and flexible fleet.
Might have? I think they would absolutely win, at least 8/10 times, the other 2 are because of unforeseen events that Thrawn had no control over.
Well of corse! Thrawn is a bad ass.
I find Legends more satisfying, then Canon.

Veeeeery dangerous when Vader and Thrawn team up!

The combination of Vader and Thrawn together sounds like a true nightmare for anyone who calls himself a rebel 😮

Too bad that Thrawn hadn't offered his services to the Rebellion.
I also doubt that the Rebellion would have still been on Yavin IV six months later.
The Empire going after the criminal underworld would also help their image, and hinder people from fighting them.
