Don't know if they are involved but the premier company in the world for doing this kind oi work (CDI - Controlled Demolitions Inc.) is located just outside of Baltimore.
I have been on a ship that CDI used explosives on. Fixed ballast concrete had to come off
CDI did the shaped charges for the Tappan Zee bridge demolition on JAn 15, 2019
@@richardhartzell7059 That was a political show too. Coumo wanted a big show.
Glad you made it back safely. Great detailed info on the charges. Thanks again
You bet
Never seen that before will be something to see. Glad you made it back. Enjoy your videos
Thanks 👍
I believe the technique is basically the same used for controlled demolition of high-rise buildings, including any number of Las Vegas hotels.
Hey Captain Andy !!! Glad you are back on site as always !!! This will be like watching the ""Eclipse" !!! Won't be able to take your eyes off from it when it happens !!😉🙃🤠😎😮
You are the best source of information on this out here.
I appreciate that!
Very cool and very well laid out presentation, Andy. At first the idea of explosives to take the bridge apart was push aside. But using charges like these seems to make perfect sense. Hope you'll be able to capture the process.
Thanks for explaining how these precession shape charges work with minimal damage to the Dali.
Great information
Glad it was helpful!
Welcome back Captain!
Gald to have you back on site Capt!
Thanks Doc! Been a busy site since I left! Good to be back!
So glad you’re back!
Love the updates!!! ❤❤❤
Hello from Perth Western Australia Captain Andy🤓
Fantabulous video!! Thank you for giving us detailed information & not just speculation. Looking forward to your LIVE FEED video tomorrow!
How about today?
@@MinorcanMullet I'm ready! Let's go!
Welcome back Captain Andy. Thank you for your report. Hey, if you look at the larger section of bridge leaning on the Dali, you will see some black looking occlusions across several of the the beams. I think that's where charges are already placed, wrapped and ready to go. Need somebody with a good camera to zoom in over there, (hint, hint).
Thanks for sharing.
I had a feeling after they found the 6th person, they would move forward with this plan.
watching from Quakertown, Pennsylvania USA
Fascinating to watch the progress as well as the sizes that are so challenging.
Welcome back to Baltimore!!! Your experience & your friends /Army on RUclips have made this experience very interesting…..Captain Andy you have a heart of GOLD. ❤️
thank you for information
Hey Andy, back at you from Charleston. When they dropped the old Grace and Pearman bridges in Charleston harbor, they tried shaped cutting charges several times before giving up. The problem isn't or wasn't with the charges mostly but the sheer number of charges and trying to get them all to go off at the same time. Out of the many they were trying to attemp to ignite at the same time numerous failed to ignite and were still there afterwards. The bridge section was mostly dropped and cut but the danger presented by the missfires caused much delay for obvious safety reasons as an EOD guy had to go under and find the missfires. Hope it works better here.
Great explanation.
Clear explanation of what is planned to clear the bridge, thanks for posting. Very interesting, it’s great to see what can be achieved with team work and the skills of the workers involved. RIP to the men lost, at least the families have closure due to the dedication of the emergency teams dealing with the disaster.
Thank you, as always, for the great video. When you look at it, it’s an excellent approach. To continue with piece by piece removal of the mostly intact bridge trusses on the port side of the DALI would require supporting the whole structure with falsework and/or a flotilla of barges and floating cranes to avoid having the structure collapse on top of the demolition workers when they had cut away a critical amount.
Absolutely!
Thank you , Captain Andy, for a very informative video. Your site is a blessing.
Welcome back!
It’s fun to watch people that Know What the are doing Thank E for sharing
Glad your back on site yours and Sal are the best coverage on this!
I appreciate that!
Thanks for showing the animation. Precise bridge demolition has been going on for a long time. I learned more about it in Giles Milton's "CHURCHILL'S MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE".
Very interesting! Great explanation.
Thank you for your channel. Very informative. Great lesson on cutting charges.
You are very welcome
I’m glad to here that you’re back you get great videos and hopefully you can catch this demolition, I’ve never seen them do this before I’m very interested in it
Outstanding job! Thank you!
Thank you too!
Thank you for what you do enjoyed it
Thanks for all the good info!!!
You bet!
It's finally a clear day with good visibility for a change! Hope you'll go live soon! So glad you're back in Baltimore just in time for the shape charges!
I am!
I hope we are watching the demolition welcome back
Good stuff. Thanks for your insight.
Glad it was helpful!
These are shape changes that look like 1-2” copper angle with RDX sandwiched inside. Non ells eliminate the use of detonating chord so the vibration in minimal. I’ve been involved with 10-15 bridge demolitions using these.
Excellent explanation, thank you.
great video, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
They are going to be using Linear Shape Charges (LSC) which are a little different from what you are showing. They are copper clad which is a problem because the copper turns into shrapnel and can fly thousands of feet away. They used shape charges to demolish a power station in Kern, California. There was a guy standing a quarter mile away and the shrapnel cut his leg off. You can Google it. Make sure you are behind something when it's detonated.
Great info. Thank you. Can’t wait for more. Stay safe.
👍😃
Great job with the coverage! We're here in Ontario, Canada.
Thanks for watching!
@3:39 you can see the "V" shape to the right side.
In France, there was a "famous" gang attacking armored vans. In this gang, there was a guy using controled explosives to do a neat rectangular opening in the steel as if it was a simple tin. Of course. all that ended in jail
My guess is they will do all the charges as they can because the pieces after the cuts will likely be unstable if they hang up. All the pieces need to fall away from DALI or at least straight down. It will take the most time to set everything up and seconds to initiate. The DALI crew can go to the engine room for safety.
On the north facing baltimore camera, there were already two black patches visible this morning. Must have been installed yesterday. By 10am there were two more added.
How does one eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Thanks for the update Capt. Andy.
You bet
Finally
Lookin forward to being back in the crow's nest Captain Andy!
👍🤓
You and me both!
Gives new meaning to the phrase - "Clear the Bridge" - ( All you guys wearing dolphins know what I'm talking about )
I having used shaped chgs, in the military, along with C4 and military TNT, this should be "very interesting."
The Craw will have a lot of pick-up-sticks.
Very well, carry on.
Great information Andy. Glad you're back safe in Baltimore. Will the crew be on board while this is being done?
Yes and yes
Jan 15, 2019 --- there's lots of videos of NY's Tappan Zee bridge being removed with "shaped charges". Most of that bridge was removed by the LEFT COAST LIFTER crane-- but one large truss span could not be safely picked by a crane -- so they used shape charges instead.
the 1000 is hauling out a large section right now
Hello, Captain Andy! I heard that the Dali crew will remain on board during the demolitions because they have nothing to worry about ... Wouldn't it be safer for all sides if Dali crew weren't physically present on Dali during the explosions?
Wow! Sorry, this bridge was not near Tishomingo, OK! It did however look identical. There are dozens of these old steel frame over bridges being replaced in OK. The one south of Tishomingo was almost washed away in a flood. Others are replaced before a rode is shutdown and the old bridge is used throughout the replacement. Thanks for the great explanation. The cone and v shaped charge basically melts the copper lining the cone or v and focuses the molten jet at HIGH speed to burn through the “subject” material.
Oh wow!
They said they going to warn everyone 48hrs ahead of it. so you going to have plenty of time to prepare media wise would think.
there're more of that v cuts at 3:23 on the right side
Large lift on the opposite side of the Dali (starboard / right / south side) occurring. Removing a sizable section of truss from that side.
Great information. It's wonderful to have a knowledgeable reporter on the scene.
well that is about the only way to unload the bridge off the ship unless somone has a 10k sea leg to pick the whole thing off of there
Agreed, because otherwise any full cut made would destabilise the entire truss.
On the other side they've used 533 and now chessapeak to hold an end section while they cut it off. The difference being that the starboard truss is resting mostly on the bottom & other wreckage. At least half the length of the port truss is supported by the ship. Part cut it would bend move and shift, and to hold it you'd need far bigger than 1000t capacity.
The governor has mentioned precision cutting multiple times, but has avoided the explosive word. That does suggest more Michael Bay in the popular mind.
I was going to say mk48 torpedos
Captain, do you know WHEN this will occur? Do you plan to be onsite when it does?
My best guess would be Friday
What about the work was halted because of a gas leak?
The explosives you are taking about works on steel more so than concrete
Thanks for the update! I guess they used the same on the Tappan Zee? If the link works it’s at 50 min in. ruclips.net/user/livewcx9kZBuB8Q?si=O-hJHUZ4MFYTXM0I
ANDY YOUR MISSING chasie remove a huge peace
when
They use those charges to sink ship to make artificial reefs. Just saying.
I said this from the get go they are going to use charges in a controlled demolition to break up most of it, especially the parts underwater. Ty for the update.
When?
Why the crew have to stay on the ship why they won’t let them off ??
Keep generator and systems running, and assist effort since they know ship.
...also there is a "(FORN... FOREIGN NATIONAL) territory" occupation clause in there someplace. It's been years since I've delt with that stuff and it's probably changed. @@UQRXD
House arrest, no visa, man the Dali when it's free, help prep the Dali for unloading, help get the Dali unloaded, etc.
What's the purpose of the 2000 ft circumference safety zone if the workers in the crew are going to stand about 100 F away from the explosions in a selected area
Guessing the workers have enough sense to get behind cover.
I want to know why the American people have to pay for a bridge that a Merchant shit hit ,it is insured why dont they have to pay. Why always the American people.
There is alot of comments who.is captaim.andy and ehat does he jave to do with this
I'm Captain Andy and I have a little bit of involvement here on this channel.
Hi Andy, Glad to see that You are back in Baltimore. Hope You will be able to cover this controlled demolition. For a good example of shaped charges being used search delsan aim nanticoke.
