This is not medical advice. The content is intended as educational content for health care professionals and students. If you are a patient, seek care of a health care professional. The elbow valgus instability stress test assesses for integrity or laxity of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) of the elbow joint. The mechanism is similar to the test used for the knee joint.

According to AAFP the moving valgus stress test has 100% sensitivity and 75% specificity in diagnosing ulnar collateral ligament injuries.

      What's the source, which article?
There is a systemic review by Zwerus et al. (2017) who reference O'Driscoll and they found a sensitivity of 65% and specs of 50% for pain and 19% sens/100% specs for laxity.
Think the test that you mean is the moving valgus stress test, because this one indeed has those sens+spec values.

I'm confused. Wouldn't a lateral or abducting the forearm be a varus force? I thought varus was when the extremity below the joint moved laterally. Please help me understand this better. Thanks. CP

Hey Cathy, it´s exactly the other way round: = varus and >< = valgus.

You won’t reduce your anatomical valgus with exercise

    No Varus
