So happens, I just placed an order for this exact reel. Glad to see the favorable report you gave. Anxious to put it to the test soon as possible. Thanks.
Please keep these kind of videos coming. I really appreciate the honest opinions that are not based off of the perks some get. You represent the real anglers out there!
To inform the community more, the second and third setting is set for certain types of line. Your 3 setting is for flouro and 2 is for braid/mono. 1 is more along the road of what was touched on and the 4 setting is max input from the DC for casting into the wind or skipping. Hope that helps!
Just bought one. Just got back from the river. I put it on a Dobyns jerkbait rod. Love it. I'm a Quantum guy, throwing the Smokes HD and KVD MG tours mainly. This is a good reel for a pretty good price.
The iDC4 system is the worst of all the dc reels I have. The spool tension on dc reel should be set just tight enough to remove the side to side play of the spool (according to shimano). However on the iDC4 system you need to tighten the tension knob much more than that. For my scorpion dc7, exsence dc, metaniun dc, and antares dc you set the spool tension super loose. But with the iDC4 on my curado you can't do that ever though the manual tell you to. Better off getting a used scorpion dc from japan off ebay. Their about the same price but you get the iDC5 from the Metanium DC.
For the money? I wished I had the opportunity to buy these back in my prime! One wicked REEL. Shimano DC 150 BANKS! I can sell all my other reels and just own 5 of these reels.
I own the SLX XT and the DC I love them both but the DC is tons of fun to fish I think the SLX DC is absolutely worth it. If your considering the Curado DC I honestly don't think its worth it at $250 you have other reels that perform very similar and offer more drag at a lighter weight at a cheaper price. For example the Tatula Elite or the tatula SV TWS I own both. This SLX DC will not disappoint give it a go if you're considering it you will not be disappointed.
I agree and disagree. I do think there are offers just as good for 250$ I have the chrinarch mgl and it’s amazing. But for 60$ more than this you get the frame that’s not as plastic in feel and that means slightly less slop in feel. I just bought the Slx dc and it’s an amazing value but I can see why people would pay the extra 50$ to enhance the frame if anything. Regardless anything over 150$ I’ve touched from shimano is flawless
I've been a customer of Shimano since the chronarch bantam and e7 curado. The hagane is such an improvement over the older products. No flex at all. It adds so much solidity to the reels.
I purchased a Shimano SLX DC 7.2 .... I watched your video and you had 4 separate settings. Mine has none. It cost me on Amazon for $109.00. Is my reel good enough for a beginner. I haven't cast it yet. so I can't comment on whether my zero settings is any good or should I send it back.
Would this reel handle a 10lb Atlantic salmon? I'm trying to find a baitcadter that I can potentially use for salmon, sea trout and bass when I eventually visit the US.
@@JCDropshot wouldn't it make more sense to just measure the distance of the sinker?? You're supposed to measure how far the reel will cast the sinker. Not how much line comes off the reel imo
@@JCDropshot Glad to hear that. I'm just starting to use a bait caster (I have used them before, but not too successfully) so I am now going to persevere. Good video mate, clear, uncomplicated, I have just bought this reel today, together with a 6 ft. Pfleuger 4-8 kg med/H , and 10 lb braid.....So I think I have some headaches ahead of me lol
JC Dropshot Hi from Texas. I’m in between reels right now because I’ve had to return the Curado k because the gears mess up after a year of fishing and it leaks a lot more water in my hand that my favorite Lews Mach 1. I want to try another Shimano but I don’t like the leaks. Another thing is I normally never use braid. Only frogging. I tied on some new power pro #65 today and lost a big bass on the hookset of my kvd perch. I’m not using braid again. Do you know if the Slx leaks like the curado k ? Ty
quick question someone said that casting heavy lures will break the dc 1-3oz ? seriously ? it cant be that weak normal breaking systems would break too then
For me personally yeah but I have been fishing with the SLC Dc now the last few weeks and it hasn’t let me down at all. It seems like it is a solid reel and will sever anyone who gets it well. You can buy a nice rod this time of year for the price difference of these reels. I am seeing a lot of stores offering some big discount in my travels on rods.
I picked up one of the standard Shimano SLX reels in early spring. It doesn't matter what I do, I cant get the brakes adjusted properly. Backlash after backlash. Mind you, I've been casting for well over 50 years. Defective reel maybe?
why are alot of reels on the right side when most people are right handed.... wouldn't it make sense to hold the rod with you dominant hand and reel with your left??
Now i feel like im pro when it comes to baitcasting. Im just using a cheap chinese reel, i dont use brakes and i fully loosen the tension knob. Only using my thumb all the time.
You set the knob all wrong. It's not like a regular baitcaster, you shake the spool side to side and tighten the tension knob until it stops wiggling. Not by the rate of drop for the lure like normally. Youre not getting the most out of your reel.
I have found with the DC system that is in these reels you will get better results by doing that and then backing them off until just before you get a backlash.
Hope you get the next vid out soon! Need to get me a DC baitcaster next week so I can start spending my time on the water fishing instead of untangling
Can’t go wrong with Shimano. I would prefer to hear your overall thoughts and you actually fishing the reel on the water and catching fish rather than having a casting distance contest. We all already know it’s gonna sling baits a country mile.
(i fish for perch and pike) im ordering the slx dc tomorrow, paring it with a 7-28gr rod (1/4oz to 1oz) my first ''expensive'' combo xD, im probably gonna get a heavy setup for Christmas for big swimbaits i cant wait to use the slx !!!!!!!!!!!

@@JCDropshot I’ve been eyeing a Lews casting reel, and I think it’s going to be solid! That’s the hope anyways haha.
I think this will be the first DC reel I own...
Shimano is something else!
Spool tension should be just enough to take the play out ... per shimano rep and no need to set it per weight of lures
