Appreciate the remake on the new UI. Was watching some older videos that bounced back and forth between the two. This one was so simple and easy to follow. Now have my network chopped up like I want it to be.
And I like the extra steps on how to isolate the vlans from the UDM-PRO SE Main Page. Don't think I ever saw that in other videos that I watched.
Man thank you so much for making sense of all this. I just got my UDM SE in the mail the other day and while I set the basics up, your video really helped me go more into detail and made me understand exactly what I was doing. Awesome video man!
Great video mate!!! I do not have any IT technical knowledge but was able configure UDM SE with help of your video. The only thing did not work for me was adding a resource to Guest. Instead of a NAS IP, I tried adding a static printer IP on the Default network. I wanted the Guest users to be able to print to the Default network printer. I followed the steps for NAS but used Printer IP instead of NAS, but I was not successful in seeing the printer being available on guest. Checked it on my phone. Logged to Default - I can see the printer being available but when on Guest Wifi - no printer! Did same steps on IoT, trying to bring printer access to IoT, but same result - no printer access on IoT wifi either. Solid video tutorial again mate!!! Thank you!!!
Migrated from my cloud key gen2 plus to the SE last week. Great machine.
Thanks so much for this video, it was VERY helpful. Please considering doing a followup going deeper into firewall rules, VPN and multi-site connectivity. I'd also love to see some detail on getting Sonos to work well with Unifi. Thanks again, keep up the GREAT content.
Great video, look forward to watching the next one!
Excellent presentation. Very helpful. I looks forward to the more in depth firewall presentation Thanks for the help.
Very helpful and clearly communicated video and covers the exact topics I was looking to implement - block inter-VLAN routing isolating the UDM Pro interface. Works perfectly! The UDM Pro documentation is not easy to navigate but this video makes it clear. Thank you!
Great video, just got my UDP-Pro SE today, and will be using your video to setup mine..
Thanks Cody! Very Helpful--Can't wait to setup my SE
Well put together, thank you!
Great video, I have zero IT knowledge and got my UDM-Pro up and running along with my USW-24-PoE. Thanks for the tutorial, I am very proud of what I accomplished.
Appreciate you watching :)
*Seriously? Did you really go thru all the Firewall Security steps?*
thanks man this is awesome, I should of really watched this first when I purchased my UDM SE - as Ive been having all sorts of network comms issues with my devices, etc and my wife has been on my case. Guess I'll need to start over.
Rocked it Cody - Thank You !
Love the video, but so much information, I wish you could do make a three part series, giving insight and elaborate on parts of it. But I take what I can get, thank you for taking the time doing this
So I asked the community if they wanted a short video or long video and they choose long video. I personally rather small videos. Which I’ll be doing from here on out
Cody, I did the swap from Pro to SE, if you want to transfer your old config across you must use the old UI to both save the Pro config and to upload to the SE.
Thanks for the video!
It’s perfect would recommend to buy it 100%
Excellent! Thank you 👍🙏
Awesome presentation
Excellent support Thank you
Great video! Would love the UDM SE but it is 830 usd where I live. I have ordered a small 2.5gbit box to use with OPNSense instead.
Thanks for the video, and thanks for starting with the basic description of the physical box! It's amazing that I can't find a piece of documentation that tells you that which ports are PoE and which PoE+ ... where did you find that?
Definitely great setup video and "liked the video" I am on the fence with purchasing the SE however didnt really see the review part mentioned in the title. Watching the setup portions definitely helped in seeing what to expect after unboxing to configured, great job there but really missed out on the ownership thoughts/experiences that are part of the review segment since title said ...and review.
I love the UDM SE and UDM pro and recommend to anyone and everyone. I have deployed hundreds of these since release. The are easy to setup , have had very little issues, for the price point they can do a lot
Awesome video thanks very much Cody for helping me.
Why would you want to allow the guest network access to your NAS?
Great Video!
Awesome info and thank you! Where do you get all your Cat6 cables please? specially the white ones.
Great video. I'm using it to set-up my UDM Pro-SE. However, I must be blind as a bat as I'm not finding "port power cycle". I must be missing something. I'm moving on to firewall rules next. You are also able to drag and drop your rules. I'm not seeing that possibility on my page. The little icon to drag isn't there and if I try and drag, it just highlights. I need to explore some more...
great review... 100%
Cody, just got my UDM SE, Aggregation Switch (the chip one), the PDU Pro and In-Wall Enterprise 6. I have setup everything using you videos and all went well. The only problem I had was trying to add my Adguard I have on my raspberry pi and also in my Synology as DHCP DNS Server option (when you unclick auto) but seems leaking DSN and wont block anything on VLANS only, when I use custom DNS Server address on Default it works but not in any VLANs. Is good to mention that I have Auto the WAN port DNS as it is recommended. I also have reported a ticket to Unifi, as I think it is a bug. I am new to Unifi devices and I really want to confirm it is a bug, I am on UDM SE v3.1.16 and Network 7.4.162
Thank you so much!
Cody, amazing video. I am setting up a network for my home and 3 out buildings, using UUB-XG's for connectivity. I have one question. In setting up the UDM SE and tagging ports into the correct VLAN, when I pull down "Port Profiles", all I see is "All" and "Disabled". I can't scroll down to "IoT", "Camera" or "Guest". Is there a config option somewhere to enable VLAN support for hardware ports? I was able to set up WiFi access just fine. Thanks so much for all you do!
Outstanding end to end setup much appreciated. Huge fan of your channel!
Have you done end to end setup of UDMP SE with UNVR + camera on separate VLAN. Tried to setup one UNVR + Camera on same vlan but lost remote access. Would be great if you can do something with UNVR + Camera on different vlan.
This was awesome video you put together. I was thinking of upgrading my UDMPRO that I have at home but it looks all the same but a couple changes. I do have a question for you. I notice you setup 4 wifi networks have you had a problem broadcasting them the same amount of wifi in UDMPRO? I could only have 3 wifi network broad casting..
You should make a video and explain in depth how to configure and select the best WiFI settings. Such as channel width, what channel, etc.
Thank u for this video, it really helps alot. You deserve my sub. Home for more of these contents :)
Great video. I notice you set your WAN interface to dot1q VLAN 35 for Bell. Are you running right from a Bell ONT into your UDM or are you bridging through their 'Homehub' ?
Hi! Given that I already have a UniFi PoE switch and a UNVR with UniFi Protect application for cameras, so I won't use the PoE ports on the UDM SE nor the HDD slot, is it worth buying a UDM SE over the UDM Pro? Or is the UDM Pro enough?
Does the UDM SE have any other improvements over the UDM Pro? Such as build quality or something else worth considering?
Hello Cody.
Thanks for the explanations but I don't get it with the HTTP, HTTPS and SSH port group in the firewall rules.
Do I have to repeat it for every VLAN I've created like the "Block VLAN to Gateways" rules?
Thanks
Great video. Allowing Internet bandwith Guest network was so much easier compared to pfsense.
I wish my SE came with a locking one (for UK). Although I do have a UK plug provided, it doesn't have the locking mechanism.
Cody, can you please do a quick video showing how we can have a smart TV on the IoT network but still able to cast to it from my phone on the main network? I'm using all your settings for everything else but a bit stuck here
Hi Cody, i also have Bell as ISP with a 1GB FTTH. Did you try installing your SFP GPON directly in the UDM SE ? Does it sync at 2.5GB or 1GB ? Thanks bro.
Cody in video when setting up firewall rules to block a VLAN accessing other VLAN default gateway addresses. Have set up Port and IP groups for all my VLANS. Question do I also set up a port and ip group for the default VLAN. Scared by doing this I may somehow lock myself out of everything. Newbie question.
Amazing video, really, thanks, i have a question, today I was trying to change the mode of the wan1 port mode, try to set as a LAN, and send to me some error like port group or something like that, can you help me with that.
I've been advised to setup my Unifi UDM-SE using a ACL as there are many open ports Internet facing showing up. Any suggestions?
Do you need a poe switch with the dream machine se?
My setup has Ethernet sockets throughout the house and I plan to connect the access points through them.
Btw have not bought a unifi setup yet but planning 🙂
Alright I’m kinda new to networking stuff but what’s a lot network used for and what is igmp snooping
where did you get those patch cables?
Will the UDM Pro SE work with non unified switches, what are benefits or draw backs?
Newbie questions a) is the default lan where the UniFi devices/client devices reside and b) I’ve seen videos where a Native LAN is set up to act as the untagged traffic lan VLAN, is it OK to use the Default LAN instead.
Hi, is this the machine we link our ISP cable to? I guess we are suppose to link another switch to this? How do you forward the 10Gbps tho, the other fiber port?
Hey how do you add ssl certs to the udm?
I just got a udm se can’t wait to install it. I just got Bell 3gbps fibre. I know the WAN is 2.5. But why do you use a secondary isp? Can you not directly connect to sfp directly?
After following the firewall rules, I've noticed that my IOT of things are having difficulties...specifically my aquarium lights and the kasa switches I use. I finally had to put my Red Sea and Aqua Illumination lights on the regular wifi. I may have to do this for the Kasa switches because something is wrong. Does anyone have any ideas?
I tried to create an IoT network on my UDM Pro using a Ubiquiti 16 port poe switch. When I created my IoT network I used VLAN 20. I assigned port 13 on my switch to this network for my Philips Hue Hub but it assigned a IP address of 169 instead of 192.168.20. Any suggestions
Thanks for the video. I have the UDM SE and set up the camera and Default network. However, my Default network can't see my Camera network if the Camera network type is set to Guest Network. Can you please direct me how to configure the firewall so the Default network can see it? Thanks
any idea how to config a udm se for a small business using fiber with a /31 ip
Since you're with Bell, Are you setting up your bell modem using ADMZ or are you bypassing?
I want to have more than 4 wireless networks. Where do I go to turn off Wireless Networking to allow that?
How do you manage your local DNS entries in UDM? Ie. How do I add a DNS entry for a local device?
I'm stuck at the part where it says "plug cable in" I plugged the ISP cable in. But still nothing. Do you know what that could be?
Do you if the Dream Machine SE can handle 150 WAPS?
Nice
Just had fiber optics installed. I am connected to their modem to my Tough Switch POE (8). Then to my Unifi AP Pros Among more switches. My internet service will not allow me to connect to these managed switches. Question...Is The Dream machine right for me? Thank You
What is the "Noise Level" like on the SE?
So is Unifi Access outside of UID Access not useful now? Seems only UID Access can do Unifi Talk Phones.
Nice, I see you did the small loop in the DAC cable :)
Thought I’d give it a try :)
@@MactelecomNetworks Works good i must say, just make nice clean circles ! Been doing it for years in the DataCenter world :)
Is it possible to create switch port profiles on UDM SE?
Great
Toure videos are greati enjoy watching them they help a lot thabks i have a problem and need some help just deployed a udm se at a home and after a power outage it wont go back online i contacted support and they want me to remove power for 40 min and then reconnect this option works but is not a solution have you had any iasues like this or know of a real solution ?
The udm is on the latest firmware and is the second unit that has this problem
Hi there. Question about what to connect UDM-SE port 9. This is my 1st implementation of working with USM-SE ever and in an office environment. Currently port 9 is connected to one of our access switches. So it's WAN1 network is the current office LAN and the UDM LAN network is 192.168.x.x how can I get the UDM LAN to be what our current office LAN is and it's WAN to be recognized correctly? From the internet circuit -> to our firewall which gives out DHCP addresses to all LAN -> access switch -> UDM is connected to currently. I didn't hook this up like that. Someone else did, I just want it to be right.
Hi admin, why UDM SE need classify Enterprise and home?
Is ppoe slow speeds fixed on UDM SE?
Great video. UDM Pro SE allows load Balance or is it still failover?
It doesn’t allow load balancing currently but is going to in a future firmware update
Can you help me, traffic dowload/upload not working in my UDM SE
Great video. What SFP+DAC cable did you use for connecting udm se with usw agg?
UC-DAC-SFP+
@@marcel151 thanks mate
hello can you do a video how to activate a landing page no one has a video doing that?
Hey Cody, thinking of buying the SE when it is available. However, noticed the current UDM Pro I installed at a customer's site does not support link aggregation for greater throughput for a Synology Nas. I heard LACP can be setup for UDM Pro via the phone app. But does the SE indigenous switch support LACP? Great video! Keep the good content coming!
The 8 PoE ports in the SE do not support Link Aggregation unfortunately. So I still need to use my Flex XG switch for that. I wish they did included LAG on the 8 ports.
UDMP and UDMP-SE probably won’t support link aggregation because they both have 1gb backplanes to the 8 port switch. Given that, link aggregation doesn’t make sense.
Hi,
As others have said the UDM SE does not have LACP
Do you have any tips how to set up a Sonos set of speakers under a Unifi Installation using the UDM SE?
Not really Sonos is a pain in the butt. You really need you phone ( or device) that you are trying to control it with to be on the same network
Your vids are always great. Thanks for doing these.
I have a question. Could you post a default setup file less your info of course to just import into a dream machine SE to cut down on setup time.
Like import a backup file and then just repost then people can just import that then edit as needed as I believe it would be a big time saver .
Just a thought.
Hey, I have followed every step but it will NOT let me adapt ANYTHING. What should I do?
Great video. Could you explain why you use your Layer 3 Switch as a router for the network instead of the SE?
Thanks!
Oh I didn’t in this video. I said you could. Layer 3 within Unifi isn’t that greatest yet
@@MactelecomNetworks Yeah, I was just trying to understand why you would pick a layer 3 switch instead of your dream machine.
@@cajuclc so that the switch would handle the inter-vlan routing. helps cut down on load on the router and optimises traffic
how many clients can connecto UDM-SE?
Why do not connect WAN2 in port 8?
thanks for all your videos. How do you get to know all the devices.
Thanks for watching. I get to know them by buying all of them. Configuring them, breaking them, then repeating :)
@@MactelecomNetworks if you sell any of your devices, please let me know I would like to get to know them. Thanks
Cody Last firewall rule “Block IOT to UDM-Pro”, do you also apply this to all other vlans excluding default vlan
Did you ever get somewhere an answer to your relevant question? Please let me know!
@@loovanloon3884 No sorry.
Yez
Hey Cody. This was really long one for once but you made it well. 👍
However please do me a favor and check two things for a bit of time.
One is the Auto updates. You turned them off like I did but they still update for me so please check how it acts with yours.
Second is for the WiFi channels you settled. I did like the same but it still updates them after a time and sets them back to Auto.
I would appreciate if you can post some follow-up for these if also happened on your SE. Thanks.
Thanks,
Will definitely be doing a follow up
udm pro se Internal Storage how big is you sdd me is 5.71 gb
I have Netgear insight managed switch and access point. Can I use those with Dream machine SE? It's okay if I cant manage Netgear product from Dream machine. I just want to create rules and use firewall
Sure why not
I recently upgraded my ISP service to 1(Gbps). UDM-SE alerting NO IP ADDRESS on the console display. I have rebooted the console and modem devices to no avail. The console MAC address registers on the eth port on the modem/router combo but does not pull an IP address. I have tried console setup on AT&T and Spectrum with the same results. Previously, UDM-SE was set up on 100 (Mbps) service with no problems. Is anybody experiencing this issue?
Does balance the Internet connection load between your 2 connections? or is it just act as a failover?
You can load balance and set different weights
@@MactelecomNetworks thank you, I saw your later video ... great job
I've been using recently the UDM SE and ... not happy. had 2 totaly new equipment and both do not boot after a power down. THe support remains silent. The factory reset procedure is not working. The firmware is 3.1.15 (cause under v2 the dorrbell was not visible for configuration) and i dont understand how can a fresh out of the box device just not live through a power cycle. anybody experienced sam issues? i saw a lot on reddit and forum people writing about it. is sb has an idea how to "make it alive" i'd appreciate it :) BTW. great videos.
Is it worth upgrading from a UDM Pro to a UDM Pro SE? I have dual ISP's and want to do load balance, to just fail over.
Probably not. Load balancing will be coming to the UDM Pro soon
Cody, I also have PPPoE but I do not use any hardware from my provider. Considering this would I still need to setup a VLAN to get an internet connection? I think you setup VLAN 35. I bought a UXG Pro and it has failed so I want to make sure I do not have any issues setting up a UDM Pro or UDM SE as I cannot afford to waste more money. Thank You
Hey,
It all depends on what your isp requires you to have. For me I don’t use the ISP gear at all either but it’s still required that I have vlan 35
@@MactelecomNetworks when I was using the UXG Pro I didn’t have to use it. They do not require me to use their hardware
@@MactelecomNetworks Just wanted to let you know I got my UDM Pro yesterday and installed it today. Everything went great. I do appreciate you responding and also enjoy your videos. The only thing I feel I did wrong was getting my old cloud key deleted from my Ubiquiti account. So far I really like the UDM Pro.
FYI, the power cable is only for US, EU plugs and UK is supplied with a standard kettle lead (C13). :(
Great review… only one comment…
Please take a breath after completing a task, changing a screen, or changing topics.
I need a moment to absorb what you have just said.
Thanks.
Good point. This is why I also hate doing long form videos.
This might be a stupid question but how many ssid's can you create, can you have more than 4? thank you and great video as always
Hey if you turn off wireless uplinking you can have up to 8.
@@MactelecomNetworks Thank you Sir
A few years ago before any Dream Machine's existed, Ubiquiti made it very hard to configure a public DNS like OpenDNS, CloudFlare, or GoogleDNS. Not sure how easy it is now. Can you make a video on that? Also, if you get a new DMP because one stopped working, can you adopt the current devices on the network easily (without having to push the physical reset button on each device) by just uploading the backup config file from the old DMP to the new DMP?
yes you can.
@@paulholyoak What about the DNS?
@@UnixGoldBoy sorry not sure havent looked for ddns in unifi.
I have a UVR already can I turn off Protect on the UDM SE.
Hi yes you can
