Glad to see this review! I have been considering an android auto compatible headunit for my WK when Gaia comes out with their android auto app. Good to see the rig get offroad!
I'm glad you were able to enjoy the video! I certainly think that there are benefits of this over a head unit and with the $699 pricetag, I sure hope they prove themselves! In more remote areas, alongside GPS the Overlander can use GLONASS and Galileo to get a more accurate location. Gaia is certainly putting Garmin's money where their mouth is and when I get a new headunit, I'd like to have Gaia up via Android Auto and the Overlander running at the same time. I'm not sponsored in any way by Garmin or any of the companies demonstrated in the video, I just genuinely was looking for the best navigation unit for my plans. Thanks again for watching and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment and subscribe to the channel. I look forward to hearing what you think of the next uploads!
I added the products I used for this project in the video description. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Let me know if I can help any further.
I got you! It's actually advertised for the Fleet 770, but also fits the Overlander as mentioned in the description. I hope this helps and thanks for watching! P.S, I have a similar video coming out and I'll be installing a TON of other things in a similar fashion if you're interested (GMRS radio, inReach, external speaker, etc). www.rammount.com/part/RAM-HOL-GA75LU
Could you please confirm the product number of the Garmin Direct Cable you have used and that you had no problem powering the Overlander after installation. Getting confusing info from Garmin on the compatibility with the Overlander
Nice job on the install. Looks clean and super tight. That ram mount is pretty clutch too. I am too am not a fan of half a dozen cig adapter chargers in the passenger area of my truck. One question...what size add-a-fuse did you use?
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! The hardwire kit from Garmin comes with an inline fuse rated at 10A, so I just used a 10A fuse for he add-a-fuse kit. That being said, I'll have a video out soon on how I'll install an auxiliary fuse panel for 12V applications like this. It's inexpensive, safer, and doesn't add load to your current fuse panel. Thanks again!
The most annoying thing with this unit is the fact that you HAVE TO USE THE (added expense!) GTM 60 cigarette plug to get live traffic updates. It can still be hardwired but you have to get a kit that accepts the cig plug which is bulky. For 600 bucks, the antenna should be built into the unit. Garmin cash grab. Other than that, I enjoy the unit.
Hello! Was looking at getting this device and a RAM cradle but I thought I read somewhere that you have to purchase a low profile magnetic mount in order to use the RAM cradle. Is this true or did you just use the magnetic mount that came in the box? Thanks and awesome work!
I certainly did not need any other magnetic charger for this project and the included charger snapped right into the RAM cradle. I hope this helps, thanks for watching!
@@MyJeepStory ok good to know, thank you! I believe this is the part number for anyone looking for the cradle from RAM, its part number RAM-HOL-GA75LU. Happy trails!
Quick update for others on this project, I contacted RAM Mounts and the GA75LU cradle does require the low profile magnetic base to work properly. I think the kit that you purchased it came with the correct magnetic base. Garmin sells the kit (cradle and special base) on their website.
On my personal Jeep, I didn't do the door jams or the inside of the hatch area. That being said, I did do the door jams on the Jeep Gladiator JT that I lined just a few weeks back and I show exactly how I did that in my next video that will be out on February 20th! I show another entire process from start to finish lining the Gladiator and cover commonly asked questions from my last Raptor video that I missed. I look forward to hearing what you think of it!
Wait, I didn't notice it was you! Thanks for checking out another video, I know this one was of a different speed than the Raptor one where you originally commented. Yeah, I skipped the door jams on mine, but because I was doing the JT for a friend, he wanted it done and I made sure to do it. I have Raptored a lot of vehicles and the jams definitely tie people up out of most places. It can be tough, but it's great to do if you can and really completes the look.
@@MyJeepStory Turns out Garmin redesigned the charging plate, and “snapping”it in into the cradle no longer works. I had to cut out the center ball in the cradle, and drill holes in the back of the cradle that line up to the back of the charging plate in order to securely hold it in place. RAM hasn’t redesigned the cradle to accompany the new charging plate design either, as I contacted them. Which sucks, but I made it work
I just subscribed! I will be uploading a video in the coming weeks with a fully kitted interior using RAM components. I’m looking forward to getting your input on that too (and will be sure to add links). Cheers 👍

Hi I purchased the Overlander also. What a piece of shit. Will not sync inreach will not work or even pair properly with my Garmin 66i. I called Garmin weeks before purchase and the agent said it would turn key work with no issues what a lying piece of shit. Called Garmin support 3x just to have air blown up my ass. Found out this has been an issue for over 6 months with Garmin but they still sell this crap. spent close to $900 with the extras for the unit. Trust me any Garmin sales rep should have summary executio nhe 66i is great but a very small screen just telling it the way it is sorry
I find that you installed the overlander in an awfull position. You are moving your view from the road every time you are cheking a direction or approaching a turn, and changing focus. Dangerous. Furthermore becaus the offroad tracks on the overlander are thin lines and difficult to see (hopefully they will make available further customization on ths sometime). There is a reason why this devices are beeing setup in the windshield or nearby. I would never drive with this setting and I would not recommend it. Just an opinion.
Nicely done! The install looks factory!! Garmin really made a great product!
I really appreciate it! Thanks for checking it out, it means a lot. I really like the Overlander initially, can’t wait to take some trips with it.
Nice to see another upload
and thank you for taking the time to check it out 🙌

I have a question about the raptor liner you did . Did you do the door jams and back hatch jam too ? Just curious.

Did you have to use some force to pop in the charging plate to the cradle? I just got mine and it doesn’t seem to pop in
I did have to use some force, but not much at all. Have you gotten it to work?

should have dropped the products links into the description.
My bad, I’ll add that and I definitely meant to. I hope you enjoyed the video otherwise!
