"I have no idea why Gyarados gets the moves that it does"
Gen 1 was one hell of a drug.
I remember teaching my Raticate the TMs for Blizzard and Water Gun.
Gen 1 Gyarados actually had really good special
I remember teaching my primape overheat
And Hyper Beam was the last generation where Hyper Beam was a 100% completely viable move, as KOing the opponent removed the recharge from Hyper Beam.
@@Kejmurhyper beam
I love doing things like this. Your pokemon really don't have to be that great-but if your opponent has no idea what you're doing and can't predict what you're doing, you can sweep with unexpected strategies.
Man thats so true, back when fire red n leafgreen could transfer up to oras, I would use counter/mirror coat swampert n had a guy immediately quit
Back when talonflame was everywhere in gen 6 I ran a rindo (or whichever berry it is for flying) berry on a serperior which could then tank a brave bird even after stealth rock damage and then hit it with the hidden power rock to KO it, caught everyone off guard
My favourite unpredictable set was a slow/bulky Swampert with SR/EQ/Hammer arm/Avalanche during a time where every Swampert had Waterfall (and usually Ice Punch for Ice Coverage)
The fact that the opponents always tried to play around Waterfall until they've seen all Moves basically made it like I actually had 5 Moves.
It's the prime example of "Never let them know your next move"
They really need to make an alternate Gyarados that's a special attacker.
Milotic has the same bst and its stats have the same grouping just under different stats as gyarados. It just lacks the flying typing and intimidate. While not the same, I don't see them making a special attacking gyarados anytime soon. I believe that was their intention with milotic.
We call that Gen 1 Gyarados
maybe they can replace the red gyarados in the lake of rage with a special attacking "bloodmoon form" the next time johto gets remade? 🤔
Milotic is the gyrados special attacking alternative: a serpentine water type with the same exact base stats, evolves from a weak fish Pokémon, both have a way of improving their defence through abilities (gyrados gets intimidate to lower opponent attack and milotic has marvel scale for defence boost under status ailment), milotic and gyrados both also have another ability that boosts their best attack stats (gyrados gets moxie as a hidden ability which boosts attack when it knocks a Pokémon out while milotic gets competitive as a normal ability which boosts special attack if its stats are lowered), the only difference is that milotic is pure water while gyrados is part flying but that’s honestly a buff for milotic since water flying is super weak to electric while milotic can fight electric and grass types better
Milotic is among the few Pokemon that really hate the Physical/Special split. 100 Sp Atk is solid, but 125 Sp Def was particularly fantastic back when it was introduced and all Grass + Electric type moves were considered electric. Water types are inherently pretty good, but with only the 2x weakness combined with the high SpDef, it could shrug off its so called weaknesses easily.
Haydunn shows that teams filled with stacked mons aren’t what make a player good (although it certainly helps) - it’s much more about understanding each team’s capabilities, and having the situational awareness to come up with a strategy to make things work, no matter how bad things are.
Good shit, man
And also just the brain power of how to navigate around your Pokemon and setting them in the right places to get value out of them
This is some Pimpnite levels of screwery 😂😂 LOVE IT!!
Ah, Gyarados. I figured its moveset was messed up by the physical/special split of gen 4, but upon some research all the "element" types and dragon were special moves at the time too. Seems the thing that really did it was its 100 special stat turning into only 60 spatt in gen 2 compared to its 125 physical attack. In gens 2 and 3 that really hurt it because almost all of the good moves it knew were special types. Nowadays it learns a lot more physical moves so the issue is much less noticeable but all those special moves are still available despite being pretty bad options in comparison
imagine it was ground and flying
Due remember that during gen one a lot of mons was given coverage for the pure reason of balance. Many types did not have a lot of coverage outside of those moves. That said I do use a tera flying special gyarados on my rain team.
This was a fun battle to watch! I'd love to see more!
I really enjoy the content you produce recently, serious and funny in the commentary, the intro was really good for introducing the battle, and I love that you have been using the music from Pokemon Masters EX!
DUDE WHAT?!?@!@? This was the most insane match you ever did!!!!!! You deserve so many likes and subs my guy!!!!!
Haydunn this is for sure your best video of scarlet and violet era and your content keeps getting better keep it up homie!
Appreciate it!
That was super fun to watch. Love those rare move sets, Gyarados' coverage with special attacks is insane tho.
That was an awesome battle! I would love to see more battles with that setup!
I have an intimate Timid Gyarados with rain dance, Hydro Pump, Thunder and Ice Beam and it's call Stormbreaker 😂
This was such a fun game and wanna see more like this
Down to the wire matches in anything is always so fun to watch!
I've been using charizard wrong this entire generation, and i absolutely love it.
Tera: Water
Nature: Modest
EV: + Spa +Spd
Item: Assault Vest
Move pool
- Fire Pledge
- Weather Ball (Water)
- Dragon Breath / Scorching Sands
- Air Slash
Its no power house, but its fun to set up the rainbow with a physical Blastoise and spread status lol.
Dude! I watch ALL of your videos when you upload, you’re one of my favorite Poketubers for years now! This battle had me on EDGE! Amazing like always! Thanks for all your hard work and content 🙌🏼
Thanks so much I’m glad you enjoyed!
Holy crap, that was the most clutch win I've ever seen in a Pokemon battle.
Special attacking Salamance and Tarous are pretty cool too
My bro doing Pimpnite run
I love this lmao. This reminds me of how I play 😂 I don't play competitively often, but when I do, I occassionally win with my ice ninetails who knows dig, she's very special 😂
Bro is probably confused af lol.
Not going to lie i laughed at that fling
This concept is so much fun! I’m in a draft league right now and i might try this.
I love teams like this. So fun.
I used to have a flygon that used sp attack move set. Gen 4 era. Earth power can be learned by trapinch. I did that to mostly confuse classmates. I had 3 flagons and I would switch them up so they would never know what I’m using. But later they figured out if I’m using a sp attacker flygon on a grass type or ice type they’ll know I have flamethrower thus it’s they figured out what I’m using. Or if I switched knowing sp defense is low opponent team they figured it’s sp attack flygon.
Yeah flygon is my favorite. I had physical, special, and support.
Support is also one of my favorite. I would use Draco meteor(or solar beam), uturn, sunny day(or earthquake), and defog. Sunny day if for my other pokemon not for my solar beam flygon. Though I did try it but flygon is to fragile.
I love vileplume for this too use an attk plume under sun for solar blade is just fun
That was a close match! The element of surprise helped you on this one. What a fun team!
Yeah, do more of these . I can imagine your opponent during this lol
I used to do a special Gyrados that had wide lens and all the big hitter moves, Hydro Pump, Thunder, Hurricane, and I think Fire Blast
I used a special Gyarados in BSS on Showdown for my rain team. Gave it Thunder, HydroPump, Fire Blast for the extra damage
Love the opposite day teams!
Bro, I would love to see more videos like this.
Haydunn became PIMPNITE for a day.
Would love to see more teams like this
I played competitive mostly in Gen 4 and I had something like 40 Gengars. A choice band one existed, but my favorite was "Muscles"
Hasty Nature with max HP and Speed. Focus Sash. Counter, Shadow Ball, Destiney Bond, and Hypnosis
This is peak Haydunn 🎉
Unpredictability is good until it is obvious that you have flipped the switch. The best thing to do is have mons that are walls be total offensive monsters, like a banded quagsire
Dawg this team is NASTY
This is what Pokemon is all about
Clefable works in any function regardless. That's my dawg
There's something hilarious about sneazler just throwing a rock
Shout-out to the fuckin ancient Banded Focus Punch Clefable used to Run in DPPt
I once did a playtrough in emerald when i was young/when the game came out and i had no idea wtf i was doing but i remember having a gyarados: fire blast, waterfall, thunderbolt and ice beam and suprisingly he was stronger then any of my team (exept blaziken he was the goat on 1st playtrough)
Omg craziest haydunn video
I used to love using specs spa Dragonite, it ALWAYS caught them off guard, as well as specs spa Talonflame on a rain team with Gale Wings and Hurricane
On unexpected special attackers, I loved the 'ChainChomp'. Pretty much a Swords Dance Garchomp that ran max SpA, with Fire Blast and Draco Meteor. Swords Dance and Earthquake were still there to fake it being a physical attacker, while still hitting reasonably hard after the +2 boost.
Bro out here pulling of some ash Ketchum strats.
This is really cool and paper-thin close! Gj haydun. I remember you did something like this back in BD/SP, a game that i occassionally play 😁
Fucking GOAT. Greatest time to be a Haydunn fan
Best match I've seen for quite a while!
I really enjoy your playstyle with pokemon, doing nonstandard stuff for the most of the time.
The idea is gold.
Crazy lol good match
Thanks for the vid!
That was fucking crazy!!!! I was really on the edge of my seat for this one lol
Hahahaha 😂That was Awesome!! Let’s go wacky flip flop teams
This battle was _tight_
Insane clutch bro
always a banger from the goat!!
I can say I've never seen a clef with meteor mash before. Congrats sir, you surprised me
I love the occasional mix up of suprise mons
It was so spoopy that I'm changing my halloween costume to Specs Gyarados.
Great Battle, Haydun! Loved it!
Nah this thumbnail is incredible
9:08 aaand sneaslers banned. At this rate ou will have 3 pokemon left. With gholdengo being one of those 3 lol.
What a great match, like every switch in was perfect
Yess i love doing this
Choice banded clefable lolol
I did a special tauros once as a joke and it did surprisingly well
Such a fun video, I was on the edge of my seat
Holy sheeeeeet that was awesome.
🎉🎉 Amazing content!! Gary put in work
Incredible 😂
Pretty bonkers team
I once took part in a FB tournament in which we chose a region and used only mons native to that region. I brought a Fire Blast Gyarados to deal with the guy who chose Johto and it worked lol
this went hard, well done
The days of doing this on Showdown, channeling that full Heatah Fajita power!
In the gen3 anime Misty’s Gyrados can use flamethrower. I’m surprised Gyrados can canonically use it after all these years but thunderbolt? Maybe because a decent number of water types from Kanto can use electric moves? 🤷♂️
Fun battle, hopefully this doesn’t become every battle like P1mpnite did
Sweeping with DD gyrados does not take much skill. This was actually fun and also nail biting finish.
Pls give us more! This match was awesome!! Great critical thinking
What's the name of the background music ?
Wild battle
Nicely done as usual
Hayden thank you for being you
Pokemon needs to make a mode like this. Opposite day.
Love your creativity bro
You absolute legend I love to see it
This is genius
Pls do a mixed attacker (Phys-Special) team. Can they be good?
This was such an epic battle!
I like your ideas, I just think your prediction needs a little work. You also overthink what your opponent is going to do too much (an example of this was you thinking he was gonna put a near dead Clefable to sleep instead of knocking it out from that range, even if you had Wish on it, Breloom still outspeeds and will definitely KO), remember, you're going in with a strategy very few people use or even know about, frankly, most people would rather not go with something like this. The pattern most people follow is the regular one of: High Attack means Physical attacker, or limited physical movepool means special attacker, etc
If you would have kept that Tbolt secret and not used it on that Rotom, that Dondonzo would've been dead the very next turn, at that point, you could've just used Ice Beam on it and you would've done the same amount of damage without being too revealing about your Gyarados' moveset. Ice Beam on a Gyarados is not as strange as Tbolt. I love what you're doing here cause I've always hated metas and tiers, they've made the game boring and repetitive for me. When I do strategies like these, they make me fall in love with competitive pokemon all over again, so kudos my friend 👍
That was a classic and legendary game.
I love these videos
You said lava frog instead of hot frog near 5:27
wow, clutch
Of course they can
Awesome team concept
Keep the videos up there great
