i remember going to the mall back in the late 90s with my friends every friday afternoon. we would hang out in the upstairs section of the boscovs anchor and one particular day this song was playing. one of the friends i was there with i still talk to, one hurt me in high school, one left me, one moved away, and one passed away from cancer in fall of 2006. i'd give anything to see them all again. this song makes me break down and cry even though i'm a grown man. wish i could go back

This child of the 90s is about to get super annoyed for not knowing the 1998 version was a cover.....(sigh) why do i feel like everyone born after the mid 80s gets fobbed off with covers and substandard music when everyone older than that can claim they remembered something good? i will never ever stop being jealous.
I think it it reflects back on loss and remorse and declaring that it won’t any longer be part of their narrative and their life... the story ends and pain can loosen its grip on you.
