  • The Best Iron tip ever - learn to compress your irons. If you find yourself thinning, fatting, chunking or simply hitting the ground before the golf ball this golf lesson will help you hit the golf ball first and start compressing your irons.
Having an iron swing like Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka or Rory McIlroy may take a little time 😁 but it would be great to learn the feelings that could lead to better more compressed irons shots
This great impact drill reveals how golfers can naturally move their bodies to create ball first contact.
If you find that you strike the ground behind the ball or tend to feel a weak contact with your golf shots the easy swing drill will really help.

    ABOUT DANNY
    -----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RUclips and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

I agree. My favourite shot in golf is hitting a solid iron, compressing the ball, getting it up in the air and watching it land and stop quick on the green. For me that's even better than hitting a long drive down the middle.

Don't comment here until I have applied the lesson on the range or course. This really worked for me - feet aimed left drill particularly gave a great feeling of throwing hands and club head down the target line. Last 8 iron was a pure strike plus 15 yards and arrow straight. Thanks for all the lessons in 2019 Danny. You've signed off for the decade with a corker here.

I love the screwdriver tip. I'll try that one out next time I go up to the range. No golf courses here in my part of China, but there's a lovely range not far away. I'd figured out the opening the stance tip by myself (aren't I the clever one) I agree, there's no better sound than that of a ball fizzing off the club face. Nor any worse one than the sound of a shank into the bushes.

Today I looked at Danny's video from 3 years ago - "How to stop swinging over the top". This was a great refresher to correct my takeaway. I also loosened my grip which felt weird at first but after just doing practice swings without hitting a ball I was grooving and ingraining muscle memory. When I did start to hit balls today and yesterday I was achieving a high draw with 3 hybrid, 6, 7, 8, 9 irons. I am leaving my driver just now until I get better with shorter clubs. Thanks Dan.

Thanks for all the good instruction, Danny. What I would like to see is an episode on where to place the ball in my stance when on uneven ground. Like when my feet are above or below the ball or when the ball is on an upslope or downslope. How does it affect club selection. If you have covered this in a previous video and you could reply with a link it would be appreciated. Great Job!

Great stuff Danny and exactly what I feel.
Many years ago I took lessons from Lynn Blake. He taught something similar but what clicked for me was two things: 1) the concept of “drag the mop”, meaning handle first then clubhead and 2) take 1/4 swings as a warm up with a 5 iron to feel the compression.

Excellent drill, Danny. It's what I always say, "We hit the ball by way of our body. The golf club is merely incidental." Another tip is to RELAX as your body rotates by the ball, letting your arms fully extend through the ark, as you demonstrated rather nicely, Danny.

As an infrequent golfer, I just want to be able to go out with friends and not embarrass myself too badly. You’ve got yourself a new (and very grateful) subscriber! Came across your videos by accident, and I’m so glad I had! Your teaching is common sense and logical, and stops the swing from getting mechanical. The two which have made the most difference to me are the “sweep a broom” for crisp iron impact and the chipping video. The latter saved my bacon three times during my medal round today. Came back in level par nett, but could/should have been so much better if not for 7 (!!) 3-putts! Not bad for first comp in 3 years! Feeling much better about the game already, can’t wait to play again! PLEEEEEEAAAAASSSSEEE do a putting video soon! A very happy golfer 🏌🏾‍♀️ .

Another great drill. This open stance is very interesting. For most of us who are getting older - proper rotation is really a key challenge. Without it - the only way to square the clubface, let alone compress the ball, is with the hands (flipping). I actually play with this open stance. From the very start, it automatically presets the hips in a rotated position. Well begun is half done.

I love the screwdriver tip. I think that helps keep the lead arm and club aligned well. However I think the open stance training technique works with people who are too flicky with the wrists and pull the ball by getting the clubhead ahead of the hands. However a lot of people have issues of getting the hands too far ahead of the clubhead leaving the face open and slicing it. I use a closed stance to try to break that habit.

Im usually obsessed with your tutorials Danny but got to be honest, this video went over my head a bit. I just want to know about my position at impact and further more, how this changes on different slopes. I find if I'm downhill I can open my stance a little. If the ball is above my feet a little, I can grip down and aim right. If the ball is below my feet I aim left. My biggest issue is uphill lives on fuller shots. Everything seems to go right, even full shanks. Would love to understand why.

Not played for 2 months but tried this drill again at driving range and was going well. Screwdriver meant I was definitely missing my torso and was getting compression on the ball. My PW, 7 and 9 irons great but 5 and 6 irons bit chunky and not going as far as shorter irons. I guess it will take me some practice to get better and ingrain movements. Struggled with my driver but it was not as bad as toptracer suggested - toptracer said driver was barely carrying 200 yards and going left slice but I saw balls go straight down the middle, some with slight draw, and they were carrying 250 yard marker. Maybe I should have said something to the staff but I dont want to cause any trouble.

One little thing to add is that golf is a left-handed game and you will get better ball-then-turf striking by doing the loose swinging with the club in your left (leading) hand. Right-hand lead promotes casting into chunk-city..

Hi Danny , im a begginer , and im having extremely hard time finding whats the best to do , i realize if i do what you just said if aiming miles to the left , and i love that feeling , but if i learn how to hit it back and have consistency with that position, why should i ever go back to “regular” position, i hope that makes sense , english is my second language, thank you for all you do you are the best coach and you simplified things for everyone, there are so much information out there , and i just wanna go to the green have a beer and play without being awful

Hi Danny, your final drill is very much how I play golf, but I use a strong grip to try to just hold the line after impact. Why? Because I'm trying to copy Lee Trevino, who is regarded the finest ball striker after Hogan. 6 majors don't lie. So I keep any rotation of my left wrist out of it. I hit long and straight; and have mastered beautiful controlled fades. Finally after 17 years playing I have a technique I use consistently well.
