I've never been a fan of The Darkness, not my type of music, but I respect what they do. After this, I have even more respect! The point Justin made about not having a beer for 13 years and that he doesn't want to be covered in someone else's is really good. You don't know the struggles of people.

I'm an occasional listener of The Darkness. I watch more Justin Hawkins Rides Again than I listen to the band, though. Is that not allowed?
My music taste is a bit eclectic, but some of my favorite bands and artists are Shiner, The Life And Times, Radiohead, Failure, Spotlights, Molly McGuire, Nothing, Nine Inch Nails, Fiona Apple, Deep Sea Diver, The Dismemberment Plan, Frank Zappa (also Dweezil Zappa), Queens Of The Stone Age... And many more. I prefer the shoegazey, spacey, post rock-y alternative sort of stuff. My two favorite bands are mentioned as the first and second here. Radiohead are also in a league of their own, in my opinion.

If I were a a recovering alcoholic and somebody intentionally threw a beer on me, that would be the last time that person ever threw anything at anybody in his life. It's impressive how he reined himself in immediately and handled it from then on. Amazing self-control. Compare this video to the various Axl Rose incidents at concerts, for example.

He doesn't get angry, he handles it with remarkable grace under the circumstances, keeps his sense of humour and is completely open about his sobriety. What a man. What a band. Anyone who has suffered from severe alcoholism knows how awful it is to be right on the precipice of complete and utter catastrophe. When he said "what if I go crazy now & destroy what's left of my life" - he wasn't being dramatic - that is something that is always a possibility with alcoholics, even if they've been clean for decades. I had a friend who almost drank himself to death and was wrecked by the age of 28 but managed to get clean through desperation and hard work. He was sober for 11 years until one night at a wedding he made the mistake of picking up a beer. He was dead 3 months later.

remember, our singer guy, CHOOSES to earn a living this way. Sometimes when a bartender finds out hes an alcoholic hits rock bottom, does the jail thing, but survives and is in recovery for life, going back and WORKING as a BARTENDER is just not a smart nor sponsor recommended choice. So it is hard for me to have any sympathy for someone who is so needy to be the center of attention, they continue to dance with devil, and wen shit gets hot, the first thing they think of is "SHUT THE SHOW DOWN" and proceeds with a "PUBLIC ADMONISHMENT " in bashing others by dressing down the fan like a pretentious teacher does a unruly student who is disruptive in class because of his fetal alcohol syndrome..The fact is, a decade after his band is relevant, he should never take a single fan for granted, and understand that every person that comes to see the band is overpaying to show their support, therefore, occupational hazards are part of the job, and to be treated as such, should a recovering alcoholic choose to put themselves back in this non-stop house party work environment and roll the dice..

I was at the gig. I never understood what people find amusing about throwing their beers at artists or just over the audience's heads. I hate being hit by that, and I would hate it even more if I was on stage trying to entertain people. Let alone the fact that Justin is a dry alcoholic. Someone threw a beer at the beginning of the show and Justin let it be known in no uncertain terms - albeit with a smile - that if that happened another time, he would "come down and crush that guy's throat". You would think that would suffice. But later in the show, a woman again threw a beer at him, and when he confronted her, she called him a pussy. I think he handled it beautifully and with restraint (though I don't know if he would've had the same restraint if it had been a dude :D), and he's absolutely right, it's a matter of respect. Thank god the audience was 100% behind him on that. Justin adressed the matter once more before the encore and thanked the audience for saving the evening for him. Justin, thanks for a great show, and my hat is off to you.

He should have done like Zappa did years before when items were thrown on the stage that he asked not to be thrown. He stopped the show and said if it happened again, "we're out of here". He then continued on with the show, playing all of it except for some of the encore. Items were thrown on the stage again, Frank stopped the show again and said that they would return when the audience had grown up. And with that not another word was said, not another note of music was played, the band walked off the stage.

Total respect to Justin he has come a long way and overcome so much. He handled this respectfully. I'm a darkness fan from Darkness Country but I'm from Frankie's country originally. These guys have earned the respect they get through hard work. That and the fact they're great at what the do. Nobody does it like they do and long may they keep rocking.👏👏👍

Well done. I can't imagine thinking it's okay to just throw things at the band. Yet, people do it thinking it's cool or whatever. You definitely deserve respect from the audience.
