Boot Fitting 101: J Bars The Silent Heel Holder
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 июл 2018
- July is boot fit month. As such we're going over the basics of how things work and why things happen before we delve into the steps to fix any issues that arise. In this video we're going to discuss the benefits as well as the how to application of J Bars. This will help fix heel hold issues as well as make the liner more snug around the heel pocket.

I think u just solved my toeside problem with my molecular scale ankles and loaf of bread sized calves. Gracias!
Just did this today on my step on boots. The step on boots have very long j bars, I found some 1/16" thick foam at the craft store and used 2 layers. Definitely felt it snug up around my chicken ankles lol. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for the vid, Angry. Cutting the foam was easier than I thought it was going to be. Perfect solution for wide feet and skinny ankles.
Glad to help, hopefully this gets you riding longer.
This was awesome, thank you so much!
Great Video
Wow, this is good information, my heel does lift after hours of riding , always retightening my laces. This will be awesome to try in my boots from now on. 👍
Koglio Knows
How did it go
I have a set of burton boots with the velcro j bars but they end up giving some pain after half a day, I think ill give your foam method a try as an alternative..
Some Burton boots have Velcro inside to attach their jbars. Burton will send them to you for free. Just ask and tell them your address, boot model and size. I got some for my right heel and they totally lock it in place.
Thank you
Angry I freakin just love you
I love him also
Ever try "eva foam clay" for this?
Where do you purchase the 3m self adhesive foam padding?
Well you see there's a whole section in the video description with links to what you need.
Definitely have to try this with my chicken ankles. Thank you!
In The Surf
Well how did it turn out?
Can u link me up website or amazon page of the 3M foam u used? I tried searching 3m foam sheet and doesnt appear sth like u are using

I have built in jbars, is there any issue with adding more foam to hold the heel?
No some people need it. Just make sure you do it on the outside of the liner like this video points out.
Greetings from Europe, I am trying to make some DIY boot fitting sheets. Should i use EVA or EPDM foam.
EVA.
@@AngrySnowboarder Thanks man
Question, the reasoning of placing the j bar behind and below the ankle bone? Placing it there closes off any void in space in the liner, that’s allowing the heel and Achilles area to lift, right ?
Correct. You're basically using it to suck up volume due to having a thinner heel. If after doing that you're still getting lift, that's when a C bar is more optional as it fills the void and also provides and over the top lock down.
@@AngrySnowboarder much appreciated, I fall into the category of a person that snowboards. Getting all this insight is really helpful to get everything dialed in.
Any experience with thirty two heel hold kit? They're circular donut kind of things that slip into a pocket over the ankles.
Any good or stick to j bars?
Their heel hold kit is the same thing it has j bars, c bars, and donuts.
@@AngrySnowboarder I'm still waiting on it to arrive, but looks like I just purchased the donuts then, not the whole kit.
If you cut them in half they become c bars and you get 4 for the price of 2.
@@AngrySnowboarder makes sense 🤣 thanks
has anyone experimented with FIBERGLASS TAPE??? (Nowadays used instead of plaster) It's readily available for me since I work in a hospital!! I was thinking of forming a J bar from it, in the shape of Remind Boot Liner!!
Wouldn't that be too rigid?
I have a pair of vans with the x-cage built on the liner, my toes touch so a size smaller isnt an option, but i still get some heel lift. Should i place som J bars on the xcage?
I'm not too familiar with the X Cage but I'm going to go with just put it over it.
@@AngrySnowboarder okey thanks!
Can u tell us what form u used? Where did u buy it to cut into j shape ?
I bought some 3m foam and made a J shape, not that hard of a concept.
@@AngrySnowboarder thank you
Do you regularly need to replace j bars? When I initially got heel lift 3 seasons ago (40 days riding since), j bars fixed it but now I'm getting heel lift again....
Liners packed out more.
The heat gun is a nice touch. I use contact cement to adhere my "j bars," which are just neoprene foam that I traced.
Why don’t you put the j bar inverted and on top of your ankle bone? Feel like that will better prevent heel lift?
Because it doesn't fix the problem of there being too much space so it then moves around under it. You start with the J Bar then you move to the C bar if needed.
@@AngrySnowboarder Oh Wah! Thanks a lot for the information! Also surprised by how quickly you replied 😂
i think theese sould be placed not under ankle but above....placement under ankle can extensive push and permanently damage nerves
I think you don't know what you're talking about.
If you attach it on the wrong spot, do you just need to heat gun the foam it in order to detach it from the liner? Im scared if heatgun will melt the liner.
No, if you're smart you duct tape it on before attaching it as a trial run, see if it fits, then if it does peel the duct tape off, adhere it to the liner, heat gun it, and put it back in.
@@AngrySnowboarder youre thr best
I wore ThirtyTwos since 2003 when I bought my first pair of Lashed. I bought a pair of TM2s just before the pandemic so didn't ride them in anger until last season. Their new in-built J-bars destroyed my heels and ankles. Bruising, blisters - agony. Very sadly, I was forced to sell them. The following season, my friend had a new pair of TM2s - the extra stiff ones. He had exactly the same problem. His boots crippled him on his first day in Grandvalira and he ended up spending 3 of our 4 days in the apartment. I can no longer buy ThirtyTwos, which is very sad as they were my go-to boots. Anyone else suffer with this?
Someone didn't buy the boot that fits their foot or their needs.
This video helped me a lot. I ended up using carpet padding with duct tape.
shit dont have a heat gun
30 Dollars at any hardware store.
