Kunming, Yunnan, China - Kunming is the capital and largest city in Yunnan province China. So I was excited to explore the local market in Kunming and eat as much street food as possible!
Here are all the Chinese street food dishes we ate throughout the market:
Rice pudding - 5 RMB ($0.76) - This was slightly fermented, and sweet, like a rice alcohol pudding. It was pretty good, but quite sweet, so I couldn’t eat that much of it.
Dumpling - 1 RMB ($0.15) - I saw these dumplings sizzling and hissing and there was no way I could walk by without trying one. Stuffed inside were leek and egg. They were a little on the oily side, but delicious.
Whole duck - 20 RMB ($3.03) - Yunnan is famous for roast duck, and there’s a version that’s comparable even to Beijing style. Style I was excited to find a stall that at the market that specialize in Yunnanese roast duck. It was delicious and the owners were very friendly as well.
Pickled pears - 5 RMB ($0.76) - This was an interesting snack, and supposed to be very healthy and good for digestion.
Drink - 2 RMB ($0.30) - This drink was incredible sweet, but refreshing.
Tofu Noodles - 5.5 RMB ($0.83) - Another extremely popular Chinese street food snack at the market was tofu noodles - I’ve had tofu and noodles, but not really mixed before. It was a little plain and starchy, but from all the sauces, it was taty.
Rice balls - 5 RMB ($0.76) - We also tried sesame rice balls which were delicious.
Jacuzzi braised ½ chicken - 15 RMB ($2.27) - This was one of the highlights of the market for me, mainly because the owner was so friendly and his giant jacuzzi of boiling chickens was amazing to see! The chicken was a little bony, but flavorful.
Yellow soybean porridge - 3.5 RMB ($0.53) - As we were leaving the market, we stopped for one last bowl of soybean porridge to eat with youtiau, Chinese donuts. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did, but it was delicious. It was very warming and hearty.
Finally to complete this Chinese street food tour in Kunming, Jerry and I, along with his family ate Chinese Yunnanese bbq. It was tasty and a great way to end this amazing day of street food.

Seriously the sweetest most genuine guy I’ve seen on RUclips in so long , Idk how anyone can have anything negative to say about him , he appreciates other people’s cultures and food , he enjoys it and is always open to trying whatever, really nice to see because it’s so hard to find that now a days.

For the People who say they don’t like his expressions and being negative about how he seems to like everything he eats, for me and I’m sure many others who watch him, I really like that about mark. He is a positive person and I like how he is nice about everything, and I think it’s because he really respects and shows love for the food and the culture and all the people who prepare, give or serve him the food whether it’s fancy food or very humble food. The places where he is getting his food from is people’s livelihood and many of them put their heart and soul into what they do. Imagine that was you and you serve food to people and they are half hearted, or just criticize it and rip it to shreds and say they don’t like it. It’s great how he finds positives in whatever he tries. Sometimes he might say it’s too sweet for him or it’s not his favourite or he prefers something else but he says it in a nice and positive way that still is very respectful and I think he has a brilliant attitude. Don’t ever change Mark!

Mark has a gift for always being respectful to the culture and food.. in this episode we didn’t see much of the unique face only Mark Wiens makes when he truly enjoys the dish.. we didnt see much of this during this episode but he somehow manages to find the right words to describe each dish! This is truly his gift! I’m always thankful for his efforts to take us with him on his journey! Cheers!

I seemed like I enjoyed the food as if I were the one tasting it. You describe the food so good and it makes me soooo hungry. All of it looks really delicious. Especially the duck and the spicy raw dancing shrimp bowl of garlic and peppers. Hope your wife and boy Micah enjoyed all the food, too.

Honestly it’s not for everyone. If you’re not used to it, the texture can be a bit weird & the crunch of small cartilages would turn you away.

I don't know about being nice...but they are hard working people and sometime lack the manner we westerner do but I understand....so many people and you have to be a little more aggressive to get where you're doing or going but it's a culture things. I've been to China and people always seems to be in a rush, pushing and shoving thru everything.

It must be extremely hard for his wife to carry the baby around. As a mom myself i'm always worried about carrying the milk powder, hot water, warm water, feeding bottles, diapers, etc. And if you're out all day you gotta find a place to wash those used bottles and change his diapers. Oh my. Kudos to that supportive wife (mom)!

Chicken feet are actually pretty good, but like he said it all depends on what they are cooked in. I have had them before, you just have to be careful for the small bones.

Usually yeah, i find the chinese to be quite friendly. But *there are* some racist assholes, like anywhere else. And some people are a little *too* friendly, or intensely curious about foreigners, wanting to take a photo simply because you're not asian or bombard you with the same 10 questions you've heard a hundred times (can you use chopsticks? are you used to our china?). Which if you're just visiting i'm sure you wouldn't mind, but when you live here and you're just taking the bus to work, it gets old real quick.
But overall i like the people and culture.
