I've never seen a butterfly burst before -it looks great, and is an excellent option if you can't decide between outline or pick-shaped burst. Nice one!

I've got a Mighty-Mite Stratocaster in a similar finish that I call ''Green Pepper Burst''. The neck and fretboard are highly figured bird's-eye maple which I have finished with the same amber-green burst colour scheme as the body. Thus, the rear of the neck is green tint to the same hue as the body rear, this continues around the rolled fretboard edge to about a quarter way in from the edge on each side of the fretboard, with the amber tint running up the centre; the headstock being a smaller copy sunburst to the body. Fretboard markers are inserted plugs of green malachite (copper ore). MM body sports a translucent dark-green acrylic pickup-plate and three gold Alumitone 'humbuckers'; Wilkinson gold Stratocaster bridge and 3 x gold skirted metal knobs with malachite disc inserts. Gold Jack boat. Fender locking tuning machines ...Also in gold.

How can I buy this?? The Dimeslime, lizard burst, tropical squash burst, dragon burst is my favorite guitar color by far. But many of those have too much yellow, or a poor transition from color to color. This one is done so amazingly well!
Wow. Trying my first kit. Bought a b stock LP with a spalted/flamed maple top that turned up with a mess of glue and filler. Doing a burst would eliminate most of the spalting but a butterfly pattern wouldn’t. Food for thought! Thanks.

Looks killer! Glad you did a green one. I just got my first batch of Angelus dyes and I want to do a green burst kind of finish. It's not a figured top, just ash with some nice grain running through it.

Thanks for showing that. I got me some angelus leather dyes for Christmas. Will be doing a spalted beech tele in traditional vintage yellow, honey, lightbrown burst, with three coats of nitro. Hoping for some frost so I can let the nitro freeze overnight in the airing cupboard for that crackle. And then go to town on relicing the heck out of it. Really nice piece of wood in the body and the colors look very good. The inclusions in the top are very minor and not an issue. Reminds me of maybe a reptilian belly. Very well done sir.
Hey Derek - hoping you can advise me. I am doing a Jazz bass with an amazing flame top I bought from Kimble, and am wondering if you put the Angelus dyes directly on raw wood, or if you use a sanding sealer first then lightly sand it back and then add the dyes. Grateful for your advice please please!!.

I REALLY hope my yellow/gold on top of brown works out as well as yours do ( no burst and unsure what the hell I'm gonna do with the back - its Queensland maple which is kind of like a red alder colour.) I am hoping to do a similar effect on my drums. However, I am going to cover them with a Maple veneer (1/45 inch thickness) , so my ability to sand is quite limited. Any suggestions? Also, is the dye used full strength, or is it reduced?
Can you do a "Dragon's Breath" effect for us using similar technique? Also, can you do a review of the scotch brite pads vs steel wool to show us what you keep warning us about with scratching?
Sometimes, the staining process looks a bit weird. I think this one in particular shows how a stain goes from "wtf is he doing" at like 3:40 to "oh THAT's what he's doing" at the 17:00 mark. That looks great, man. Your stains always look great, but damn, that's nice. And I don't even like green guitars!

You should do the butterfly burst on an ES335 style body! Just seems like that body shape was made for doing the butterfly stain.
