I'm 46 now, but when I was 23 I bought a $500 used minivan and moved 6 states away with no job, no belongings except what I had in the van, and not knowing a single soul. It was the best decision I ever made.

My family is grown, My wife passed away from dementia and due to her medical issues and expenses, I no longer own a house. I have a good pension (I'm retired) and now have the choice to go where ever I want and do what I want. Im trying to make similar decisions as you right now. We will see where I end up. Hi Austin I moved across the country when I was 30 and have lived in Alberta and BC for over 30 years. I just turned 60 and have made the decision to get rid of everything, pack up my car and move across the country to my home province. It will be a one week drive almost 4,000 km. I am excited about transitioning to a new life. So nice to listen to your story! Best of luck to you.

Awesome !!! Very similar to what I did. I have been moving all my life. Originally from Europe, I moved to the US. I was a software developer, wanted to become an airline pilot late in life... and I did. Everything is transitory in life, there is no certainty at all ever. I have liberated myself by truly becoming a minimalist. I own next to nothing, not even a car. My entire household fits into a few boxes. I have no debt and are completely free to maneuver my life, regardless of anybody's opinion. And I'm loving it. My life is light-weight and fairly worry-free. It's all good. Peace my friend. BTW, I have spent some time in Ecuador too. Sí, nos vemos chico :-))))

A lot of us were raised like you said, to get a good education, a good job, get married have kids. Scared to do things out of the ordinary and take risks. Now we are seeing people that dedicated 20-30 years at a company get laid off. It wasn’t until recently on you tube I’m hearing younger generations saying it’s ok to fail and pivot and try new things.

I hope you enjoy your new life adventure! I really appreciate the message you shared. I will however say I have 9 children. Eight whom still live at home. I am a single mother and jumping out there like you are is far more scary when you know their lives depend on you making the right choice. There is no way we could just live in our car for a moment and work anywhere with any hours. So while I agree with not letting fear cripple you into not being complacent I also have to say when others lives hang in the balances of your choices, sometimes staying where you are is the safest bet.

I am lucky enough to work on a relatively high paying job, and the only debt I ever took in my life is my mortgage, which I have a goal to pay at 31y, and the even a minimum wage is enough to fulfill my needs, so I can take risks and fail and try. I understand not staying in a scarcity mindset, but with the little amount of items you have you can certainly afford a studio/ on bedroom in the city in Georgia for much less than $1400 a month and still have all the space you need to lead the urban lifestyle you want. We were renting a two bedroom apartment for a family of 4 just 15 minutes outside of DC for $1800 a month just a few months ago. Just saying that as a single guy you don’t need all that much space/ stuff. If I didn’t have kids I would even go as far as sleeping in a hammock and maybe have like a small loveseat for guests/ to lounge on. I wouldn’t even have a tv but a projector instead and do my weight lifting workouts using resistance bands in my underwear in front of a mirror command stripped to the wall. Think about how often you have guests over/ actually use the space in your apartment. I’m a stay at home mom and honestly there are rooms in our home that we barely even use and it’s a three bedroom house! and we have a lot of stuff. In fact we are so abundant to the point that sometimes it’s too much. Just something to think about. My idea of abundance mindset is realizing that what we have is enough and making the most of what I already have and using and enjoying it to its fullest extent. So many wealthy people don’t even have time to enjoy their expensive giant homes/ rarely spend time in their vacation homes. Is the high cost really worth the small amount of enjoyment you get out of something is something to think about.

I have savings, no debt and I'm free to make whatever decisions I want, but that frugal mentality has left me scared to take chances and blaming that on not feeling like I have enough money if it turns out to be a misjudged decision. Augustin, I did the same thing recently before a long distance move. So freeing to get rid of unnecessary stuff

I appreciate what you said in this video Austin. It’s very good, however I’m not so sure I would do the same. Moving to Atlanta where the rent is $1,400 which is double what you pay now just wouldn’t be worth it to me at least. Cuz you will be paying double for what you have now. Double for an apartment, not a house and to me that’s just not worth it. Obviously you view it differently and I can respect that but I just hope things go well for you. This is a very scary thing to do cuz it’s jeopardizing your method of living right now. I wish you all the best man, truly. My thoughts and prayers go out.

I want to move but have an egregious non compete clause to deal with. I’m a frontline healthcare worker and they would either sue me or I wouldnt be able to work in my field for 1 year. All this while there is a healthcare worker shortage. CEOs forcing us to not work….extreme greed. I just want to be near my family again

Very excited to see what happens next for you, Austin! I've found Susan Jeffers' "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway" very helpful at various moments in my life (the basic message is in the title). You can find a full audiobook version right here on RUclips. Good luck with the move and congratulations on 75K subscribers!

This is the BEST video yet!!!! I am also double your age and two years ago I grabbed the proverbial bull by the horn and moved from Maine to Alabama, it was the best move I could’ve ever made. I did move for a job, and it came with a promotion and in June I got another promotion so for me it’s all working out. And I am very Change averse. But also trying to embrace change as a good thing. Good luck in Atlanta, you’ll do great things.

Dear fellow, you are young and should go and do and enjoy all the adventures you can think of. Being a frugal thoughtful person helps immensely to keep most potential troubles small to non-existent!
