I am disabled and on a low income, so I have gone to reusable items. Family cloths instead of toilet paper (repurposed from the good spots of old tshirts), cleaning cloths and knapkins instead of paper towels, reusable water bottle, etc. Since I can't afford a bidet, I use a spray bottle instead! When I need something, I look around at what I already have before buying anything to see if I already have something that can be repurposed instead of buying new. If I can't find something to repurpose, I check out free places, buy used, or clearance, and then if I still haven't found anything, I check out discount stores and if all else fails, a regular store... I check online before I drive all over when possible... @ElAgustin, you are so funny and smart, thank you for these videos! I have always been frugal, but you are helping me 'up' my game!

Started getting better with not wasting food . There's the we have nothing to eat panic but then stopping and actually looking at what's left in fridge / freezer/pantry . More often we are only missing an ingredient or two so we get them rather than doing a big shop
I'm a minimalist so my fridge has 7 containers that we put our food in. It keeps everything organized and much easier to clean. I'm down to 1 bottle of salad dressing. I'll make my own after this one is gone. So my food bill is smaller and smaller and what we eat is fresher and fresher.
You give very good advice. I disagree about having more money withheld. That is YOUR money. Why be without it and allow a company have it? You are teaching discipline. Don't let the gov't hold your money, you be responsible with it. Bank it and let it collect interest vs be without it til tax time comes.
I used to use cabs and Ubers to go to and from work. The public transportation to get there was exhausting, unreliable and unsafe in Mexico City. During the pandemic they created a bus line that's safe and the bus stop is only six blocks away from my home. I couldn't believe how much extra money I had at the end of the month and it was an eye opener. I'm currently doing a no spend year since December and it's really not that hard. I want to become frugal and I can do it right now

I am a big believer in selling unused items to those who want/need them. There's an added benefit beside the money: you'll have less clutter in your life. Last week I unloaded two vintage sewing machines -- I priced them pretty low because I wanted them out asap -- and sold each of them in just one day. Many things have become very expensive compared to just a few years ago and there are a lot of people who simply can't afford "new" anymore. You're doing them a favor and yourself as well. Excellent video as always!
Ugh, in theory this sounds great. And I have tried it. But-I always seem to get my time wasted by people that ghost you after contacting you, or who insist on seeing an item first before buying it. I’ve even had people show up, and THEN try to haggle the (already low) price, when someone else was turned down (because they weren’t first to offer.) I’m so sick of this.
I'm invested in VTSAX fund, 401k maxed yearly, HSA and finally adding into a 4.25% HYSA (Ally). I'm on track to pay off my house this September 2024 (7 years total out of a 30 year loan @ 4%). To help reach the goals. I cut cable. I switched to mint mobile. I found a better electric plan. I switched to liability car insurance. I cook my own food. I invested in a food vacuum sealer to freeze vegetables, bulk meat, left overs etc. I buy store brand products vs name brand products. I found cheaper laundry detergent in bulk. I stopped drinking soda. I make my own ice tea. I installed a bidet and saved a lot on toilet paper. I live way below under my means. Lets go 2024.
To have the conviction that you can save more from your present income is so motivational. It gives you the feeling that you already have the security that you are looking for in your life.
Step 7: I shop around and compare every six months. (Car insurance). In December I lowered my six month car premium for same options from $1150 to $762!

I love my dividends. They pay out quarterly and usually more of a payout at the end of the year(4th quarter). I never try to get a bigger tax refund. One yr, we owed the state $32.00 and weirdly enough, got a Fed. Refund of ….$32.00. We just always try to sock money away in a savings vehicle: bank savings account, money market account, 401k, etc.
Yeah, I definitely dont agree with that one. You’re basically giving the government an interest free loan, when you could automate savings and place it in a high yield savings account to generate interest instead.
Always, very good advice and videos. I think most don’t follow your advice unfortunately. I watch some of your videos to remind myself of how important money is in life. Thanks
Reason one is a good idea for some but I don’t like it because I don’t want the government holding my excess money. I would rather have the $50 each week; save and invest that $50 each week instead of waiting a year for a $2600 lump sum.
My husband says the same thing. Not to mention they don’t pay you any interest like you’d get if it was in an interest bearing savings account the whole year. But I do have a friend that would never save anything if she didn’t have extra money withheld. 😢
Pretty good info, I been learning about your channel. I finally got brave to chance my home and car insurance and saved $500 .00 I was with the same company for 15 years and for the reason did not want to move.
Yes for me it was reluctance to change, I finally did and paid a lot less for Rx insurance and auto insurance, just PL and PD. One of the ways to save money through smaller spending comes from the great Amy Dacyczyn of the Tightwad Gazette. She used to say that it was important to ask yourself the question, "If I am paying twice as much for this item as I would for an alternative, is it twice as good as the alternative?" Turns out when you put it like that, a lot of people don't feel like they are getting additional value for their money when they buy a luxury brand. If you ask yourself the question, "I'm paying twice as much, so is it twice as good?" and the answer is "not really," maybe it's time to scale back and find alternatives.
I always buy food for only 4 meals for 5 days. So Monday to Friday. On Friday I eat all the leftovers, like 2 eggs and 1 carrot. I don't mind strange combinations anymore.
Hi I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I've always lived quite frugally but your videos have motivated me even more. I'm really enjoying your content and love your outlook on life.
Yes, it would be better to just have an auto deposit to a bank/ credit Union that isn’t as convenient for you to get into. A couple years ago, our car died in August, a week after we got our big tax refund, which usually comes in by May! Thankfully it was there, but what if the car had died before that?! We would not have had the cash in hand to buy and would have had to get a loan 🤦♀️
Yes but if you don't have it in your account you can't spend it, so that is savings. My guess is that most people would do better with witholding than with the interest they might make. If you ain't got it, you can't spend it..
@@100perdidowell what worked for us was extra withholding, a kind of forced savings, we were told that it was letting the government use our money for free, but it worked for us I know when people talk about saving money, it's important to save some money, not run out and spend it unnecessarily.
I buy almost no paper anything. I buy 1 roll of paper towels a year. I use dishrags. I also switched to using a Tushy bidet and reusable toilet paper. I am a traveling nurse and install my bidet into every house, hotel room and Airbnb I rent while on a contract. Yesterday i was praying over a bundle of money that someone sent me.. and the spirit of God told me this.." Tip - put any money you save on groceries into a mason jar, so you can actually SEE your savings growing before your eyes. Its a good motivation to keep going. Ditto if you quit smoking. Its shocking once you actually see the dollars piling up and makes you feel proud of yourself.

Good strategy.
so glad I found you Austin! Do you need to make monthly copies of the free spreadsheet?-just want to use your ideas and my time wisely!
I would love to see this in a podcast!!!
I’ve decided not spending anything this month and so far, so good.
I always buy food for only 4 meals for 5 days. So Monday to Friday. On Friday I eat all the leftovers, like 2 eggs and 1 carrot. I don't mind strange combinations anymore.
Hey Austin, could you share into which index funds you invest please? Thanks
I would highly bet it's VTSAX.

Hi I'm a new subscriber to your channel. I've always lived quite frugally but your videos have motivated me even more. I'm really enjoying your content and love your outlook on life.
Thanks!! I'm glad you're enjoying my videos!
You get a larger refund by withholding more, but they are holding it without paying you any interest
It’s the attention to detail that gets one ahead. Everything is a big deal if you’re poor.
I’d rather pay at tax season than lending the money to govt interest free too
@@100perdidowell what worked for us was extra withholding, a kind of forced savings, we were told that it was letting the government use our money for free, but it worked for us
I know when people talk about saving money, it's important to save some money, not run out and spend it unnecessarily.
I buy almost no paper anything. I buy 1 roll of paper towels a year. I use dishrags. I also switched to using a Tushy bidet and reusable toilet paper. I keep a couple of rolls in case there is a guest. You DO need access to a washing machine and bleach. I am a traveling nurse and install my bidet into every house, hotel room and Airbnb I rent while on a contract. I know it makes people uncomfortable to hear about it but no one goes back to paper once they start.
Yesterday i was praying over a bundle of money that someone sent me.. and the spirit of God told me this.." Banks were not created for the intent of saving money..the intent was to make use of people's money for their gain and replace it when needed.. this is why u queue to deposit and still queue to withdraw inside the bank.. learn to save money at home..its hard..but it's worth trying".. and i said thank you God.
Happy weekend, El Augustin!
Tip - put any money you save on groceries into a mason jar, so you can actually SEE your savings growing before your eyes. Its a good motivation to keep going. Ditto if you quit smoking. Its shocking once you actually see the dollars piling up and makes you feel proud of yourself.
I was waiting for your video, and just went i went to check, you posted it a minute ago lol.
Are you in Georgia yet?
I am!
@@ElAgustin well good, I am glad you made it safe. New Year, new changes!
Thank you so much for yet another amazing video! Have a wonderful week! ❤️
We can't ignore the potential impact on portfolios. Bonds are often considered a safe haven, and if they crumble, investors like me might scramble. I’ve been investing for 11 yrs and my $1m portfolio has never been this depleted, how i do hedge this?
The professionals presently control the market since they not only have the essential business strategy but also have access to inside information that the general public is not aware of.
You have a very valid point, I started investing on my own and for a long time, the market was really ripping me off. I decided to hire a CFA, even though I was skeptical at first, and I beat the market by more than 9%. I thought it was a fluke until it happened two years in a row, and so I’ve been sticking to investing via an analyst.
@@LionTowercoporation I appreciate the implementation of ideas and strategies that result to unmeasurable progress, thus the search for a reputable advisor, mind sharing info of this person guiding you please?

ElAgustin smashing it with the content :) any progress with the house move mate? Much love from Cambridge England
I don't buy dish soap anymore, I use Native Soap on everything. It's hand soap but works for Everything and lasts forever, just as good to clean the kitchen counters, wash my pans and dishes, most which go into the dishwasher anyhow with a dangerous chemical laden packet. I need to learn how to substitute that
Austin, please talk about gold investment for your next videos. I wanted to know your insights. Thank you.
Enjoy your week!
Remember you'll pay tax again on your refund the following year. Double tax is not saving.
Unfortunately I'm a widow and my income is low enough that I don't pay taxes. A mixed blessing 😮
I find it easier to spend less than earn more
Practical tips as always thank you!!
What’s the best place to sell guitars?
I'm guessing Ebay to get the best price.
You do know that dividends is not extra money IT lowers the volume of a stock... it's not extra cash look it up
Do you invest in any individual stocks? Might be a cool video idea if you do!
He invests with the stocks Warren Buffett advises people to invest in which he discussed.
You don’t know what he has in his portfolio unless he decides to show his audience. The question wasn’t for you, it was directed towards Austin:) anyone can say they invest strictly into index funds / ETF’s , I was curious if he dabbles in any individual stocks with maybe a small portion of his investment portfolio.
Index funds!
I like the way you talk, lol savvvvinggg moneeeyyyyyy
bad advise, doing so giving the government loan without interest. Why giving government free loan? Throw the extra to high yield to earn interest.
Excellent tips
Great, helpful content! Thanks!
Thank you ElAgustin!

U guys have $100 cellphone plans?!
In Europe they take 40% of ur salary, but u have free health care.
I think that is great. Healthcare in US is a business
I would gladly pay that extra 12% to know that EVERY AMERICAN had decent healthcare..I will be paying off a 32k bill for an emergency appendectomy for the next 12 years
I agree. @@nolongeranurse3369

Who is your brokerage account with? Mine was with TD Ameritrade before Charles Schwab took it over. Whatever I made over the last year looks like it was split between the broker and my financial manager. 😞
That's why I don't use a broker.
Schwab. Once I lost all cards abroad and they mailed me a new one for free to Peru in a week! The customer service is incredible there!
Brokers will pocket all your gains
Credit union banks are great
The best!
Why are you loaning money to the government at 0% interest. I like the HYSA idea.
Who buys sodas at the gas station?
Thirsty people
On a drive
you lost me at insurance... it's not always that 'easy' depends on your coverage and your history... and talking to an agent can take more time than quoting online... speaking as an agent... also remember you get what you pay for... too many people these days expect something for nothing.
Yes, people often don't evaluate. They just look at the $
i even freeze cheese. all my coins not going in the trash
Wow, those Cell Phone costs are incredible! I get that things cost different in different countries, but here in the UK mine costs £6 ($7) per month after tax, for unlimited calls. And that's perfectly normal here...
Omg. I know canada is bad but I pay $70 and my plan is cheap for what I get which is medium.
@peterwstacey holey cow, I thought the UK cost more than here in the US. I pay $45 and am going to check out MINT and others to see if I can do better, yet still get some service out here in the 'dead zone'! Almost no phones work out here, but there are free trials nowadays that I will have to check on...
Another great video Austin 😊
Thanks!
LOL reusing toilet paper! UGH.
Exactly how does that work, I think a bidet would be better.
good ideas
News flash - I have YET to find any investment giving me back 10%......without extreme risk.
You mean switch to a cheaper bank, not a better bank.
Some stocks analysts say. In year 2024 stocks that will skyrocket. Are. MRNA, PARA, TDOC. TGT. BBY. DIS. ROKU. SQQQ.
U have to pay taxes on any money u earn from the money u put into Any bank. So very sorry I will not do that.😊
That’s like saying, I don’t want to earn income, because I will have to pay taxes on that income. Your just losing out.
@kevinbossick8374 no I'm not. Like I was saying paying taxes on money that in the end won't be that much. It's not like I have a million dollars then it would be good. But each to his or her own....
@@arthurmantzouris4413 exactly. The taxes you pay on interest is not much. At 5% CDs or 4% savings, it’s an easy choice for me.
More taxes. Thats just stupid.
Speaking of car insurance I don't let them rule me I rule them I pay $127 every 6 months for liability and they ain't getting a penny more out of me and I told them that and all they said was okay and that's a very true story
I pay by the year, PL and PD only. I have AARP subscr and auto insurance from The Hartford, my year bill is $519.00

Does he really speak proper Spanish or is it grammatically wrong what he's saying at the end of each video?
I just wanted to know...I have just started learning Spanish and he puzzled me a bit.
I (attempt) to say it in a Venezuelan accent and drop the "s." I say "Nos vemos chicos," without the "s." I always though the accent was fun.
I must sound like a grumpy old fart now 😂 It's just...I think that what you are saying should be que tengAS in singular or que tengÁIS in plural because it's subjunctive but no que tengO 🤔 Sorry about that. I am a teacher and I can't help it. It's in my blood to overthink 😂 I might be wrong, though, I am not a native. That's why I asked 😊 Your videos are amazingly helpful and eye-opening. Thank you very much for what you're doing. Muchas gracias 😅😅
I just had $115 in sushi 😋
I don't spend nothing on my mobile phone I run it free off the internet I haven't paid a mobile bill in 3 years.
How do you text people when out ?
Tracphone so cheap
Do you not use a cell phone number? Do you only use Messenger, Skype, Whatsapp and that sort of thing? I travel a lot and need a phone but I have a disabled sister that rarely leaves the house. Can you expand on how you do this?
You lost me when you said to give more money to the government so they can hold onto it for upwards of a year completely free of charge. I guess everyone has different ways of handling money, but I like to keep more of my money with me where I can control it to make more money. When you give it to the government to hold onto you instantly lose the ability to make more money with it for at least a year.
What you can just make more once you get it back the very next year!!!! WTF as long as you get it at some point you can just make more once you get it right? Now if your broke you already have a serious problem full stop!!!
let me hear this...hmmmmm
Why would you ever give the irs tax free money? You are deluded
