- Since 1997 the remake of Final Fantasy VII has ALOT of content to consider. With the advent children movie, FFVII crisis core, DOC, BCC, ultimania lore and more. Today I'm going to be taken a lot at the On The Way To A Smiles web series published by square enix. Dropping new canon and lore that not even I've heard of before and considering how much of this content square could use for FFVIIR.
From Aerith's journey to reform herself, Sephiroth and Clouds rivalry and Rude kicking in a toilet door. Hope you guys enjoy this blatant excuse to dive back into the universe of FF7 :P

These audiobook are amazing. I've been reading them over and over again for ten years and I would love to see these stories as some sort of inspiration for the remake.
Plot twist: Aerith won't die in FFVII Remake.
Nah, she will. Nomura is wayyy too proud of this moment.
But maybe she will die later on, like initially planned (it is suspected that she was supposed to die when Cloud loses it completely in the crater and gives the black materia to popsicleSephiroth).
This would put a twist on this famous scene but still keep the importance and meaningfulness of her dying.
But really, there is no way she won't die. It's a crucial part of the plot and the life theme she embodies (you would think a character made to represent "life" should live... but I think she's supposed to show how life should be fully enjoyed... and the renewal part of life... as this is what the lifestream is all about... recycling souls).
Well, check the ending of the remake now ;D
Well, athough this isn't related to the 'on the way to a smile' stories; I would hope that the remake offers an opportunity to expand upon Gast and Ilfana (Aerith's real parents). Since there wasn't a lot of backstory behind them originally, this gives the chance for new plot points/background info to be created.
im seeing this before the Remake...you are a genious, you were right! they had added many things from this compilation!
My favorite story in the game was Barrett's when he and Dyne were fighting off Shinra from taking over their home for resources. It wasn't so much about Barrett but more about his friend Dyne. It was actually heartbreaking to see this because he held a grudge against Shinra and now Barrett for letting him down in their fight to defend the town.
People actually do go through this and much like Dyne, they lose something along the way while trying to fight for what is right, only to end up losing more. In this case, Dyne not only lost an arm like Barrett, but he doesn't know that his long lost daughter Marlene was still alive. This was a promise Barrett kept for him. This kind of tragic backstory is what the game needs. If it remembers the other people involved in the main characters lives, then the lore will have more bearing and give a better sense of a complete world immerse with stories.

Something I noticed about the "Dyne suicide" scene... He jumps into the void with his arms opened as to form a cross shape. It's supposed to mimick the crosses he built for his wife and daughter. Took me a while to notice those crosses next to him.

By now it would be more shocking if Aerith didn't die. Since literally everyone is ready for that "twist".
What I want to see from the compilation is more about Elfé.
Oh and it would be kind of fun to see Minerva (God of the FF7 Universe, and namesake of Minerva's Band item.) as she appears in the book.
And maybe something to do with the city under Midgar and the Mako Soldier project (The older project that was replaced by Jenova Project after Shin-Ra discovered it.)
This game was my life. Always gave me the feels.
Every time something about FF VII Remake appears, I just ask the Cetra's to protect this game from being a failure.
Just give me Cloud and his team, specially Cloud x Tifa.

So we're going to ignore the fact that Cloud and Tifa literally had sex before heading down the North Crater to fight Sephiroth? Advent Children destroyed that relationship development, but they were hitting it off by the end of the original game.
My advise to Square about the expanded universe stuff from On the Way to the Smile? Remember the Hobbit. If the ending still rings true in the remake and all the expanded lore of years later being shoved into the re-imagining all at once, as opposed to the pointless Arkenstone and a pointless visit to Gundubad... I dunno, there's a lot here to unpack. But if it weaves together properly then I seriously can't hope for a better remake.
I kinda want to see the process of becoming SOLDIER & maybe Clouds journey to failing it. Would be cool knowing you potentially met this SOLDIER troop that you're murdering in cold blood :D Kinda like the trailer where that one guy recognizes Cloud. Would make the "Run or Fight" dialogue option a bit more thought provoking. And since the remake is considered a spin off.. I hope there's blood.

Nomura??? Fuck Nomura! The lead director of the original FF7 was Yoshinori Kitase, he will also be the director for this one.
The only thing that's missing is Hironobu as the producer.
Nomura is just a character designer, he was never good at storytelling, he was only good at character designing.
They need to dive more into Crisis Core Before Crisis and The Lucrecia Vincent story I also really hope Avalanche Mentions their other members that were in before Crisis

I don't blame you the last good Final Fantasy they made was truthfully 10 we all know that 15 could have had way more for a Final Fantasy game I understand a lot of people say oh the gameplay for the old style was shity but you had a lot more to do in the old games you're too worried about how the game is played now you're going to fight then worrying about Quest put some character into the damn game
In a parallel universe where Pez has free time, I'd love to see him do a FFVII play through, where we can analyze all of this stuff..... so many games such little time *sigh*

These would be the ideal stories for the forthcoming FF7 remake games for me.
1) Remixed version of original story
2) On The Way to a Smile in-game adaptation and remixed advent children Advent children story
3) Remixed story of Dirge of Cerberus (hopefully with more playable characters than just Vincent).
Though the three (give or take) games will probably take place in the story of the first game, I can still dream lol.
I highly doubt this would happen, but your video gave me a neat idea if it did: Imagine if they sort of went the FF2: Dawn of Souls method. A playable "side story" with the fallen characters, lead by Aerith or Zack. Could recruit Dyne, Tseng, Biggs, Wedge and Jesse. Zangan? Red XIII's dad? I dunno, but regardless, it could be the journey through the Life Stream. Aerith helps them get put back together, and they help her "travel" to a point where she can complete her prayer for Holy or something.
I dunno, it'd be a silly idea, but it'd be sort of neat to see that side of the story. Then we, the player, would also still be responsible for getting Holy summoned, as well as beating Sephiroth. Maybe their final boss would be a remnant of Sephiroth or something. There are a lot of neat ideas that could be played around with here. The monsters they encounter could be because of Jenova's influence.
TOO BAD IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN, but hey, a guy can dream.
They will probably end the first episode with the scene that Aerith survives where we were all expecting her to die, we may know she will die later but we won't know when + anyone who took the chance at trusting Square by buying the first episode, will struggle to resist once we see Aerith survive at the final scene of episode 1.

Those cutscenes alone have convinced me to get this game. If the gameplay looks half as good as those cutscenes and Square get story right, this could be an epic remake.
Even so. If it looks anything remotely similar to those cutscenes it will look awesome.

If square continues the ff7 remake until the advent children part and made cloud kill himself or wipe out his memories......oh man ,square would have the biggest pair if they pulled off that ending.🤭
Aerith dies at the right time, as tempting as it is to want her to stick around for longer. She disappears so suddenly, and you frantically try to catch up with her, and the moment you do she's taken away. It's all so sudden, Cloud doesn't get the chance to apologise properly to her for the event at the Temple of the Ancients, and this leaves the player breathless and bereft. It's exactly as the developers wanted in the end:
'While designing Final Fantasy VII, character designer Tetsuya Nomura was frustrated with the "perennial cliché where the protagonist loves someone very much and so has to sacrifice himself and die in a dramatic fashion to express that love". He found this appears in both films and video games from North America and Japan. Director Yoshinori Kitase concludes:
"In the real world things are very different. You just need to look around you. Nobody wants to die that way. People die of disease and accident. Death comes suddenly and there is no notion of good or bad. It leaves, not a dramatic feeling but great emptiness. When you lose someone you loved very much you feel this big empty space and think, 'If I had known this was coming I would have done things differently. These are the feelings I wanted to arouse in the players with Aerith's death relatively early in the game. Feelings of reality and not Hollywood ... A fan losing faith
I'm actually kind of up for seeing what new things they can add to the story. My only reservation is that there are certain moments in the original that are perfect as they are, and so damned iconic, that I hope that they get kept more or less the same.
I'd also like them to keep the voice actors from Advent Children. Quinton Flynn is a perfect Reno, Crispin Freeman is a perfect Rude, Steve Blum is a dope Vincent, and George Newburn's Sephiroth gets me in all the right places, if you know what I mean

A note on North/South Edge:
In FF7, there's some part early on where they say that the city of Midgard was actually once a bunch of cities...all with their own names. But that "Nobody remembers them anymore."
It's supposed to kind of describe the relationship between the slums and the, in Barret's words, "God &@#$ pizza!" But it might be interesting if "Edge" was the name of one of those cities originally, and so after the end of FF7 and the people moving out , maybe they reclaimed at least that town's original name?
Maybe Edge was simply one of the town names and the people kind of took it back up as a way to break with the Mako powered past? Kind of like if you took one of the world's cities that has had a lot of cities in the same place over time (for example, Istanbul), and decided to call it by one of the original names. Something sort of like that.
I think there's no way this remake can be bad after seeing this video. At least I would be surprised if it managed to be after hearing all the potential for expansipn there is. My hype has leveled up!
I've watch "Denzel On the way to a smile" from Advent Children Complete. There was a person named Johnny in the Extra who sounded familiar, but couldn't remember, until I watch someone's playthrough of the original FFVII.
I used to think that Big Boss from Metal Gear 1's Outer Heaven survived by a trap door during the battle with Solid Snake, but Kojima decided to retcon it with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain that Venom Snake was the Big Boss that Solid Snake killed in Outer Heaven. (6:50)

So Cloud is basically Seph's horcrux? That's kinda awesome, to be honest.
Possibly my favorite part of the compilation (though it couldn't exist without the OG). Oh, and this is not new stuff. These novellas came around the time of Advent Children Complete. Whether or not pieces of these stories (or anything from the compilation)show up in the remake, the "damage" is done. That is, our beloved FFVII characters are now deeper, more complex- having some added character attributes that just can't be unwritten out of them. I just hope it hasn't already ended at that, and that there will be even more character insights and some surprises in the remake.
Well, I dunno... In a world where Marvel rebooting happened many times and the previous StarWars side lore (Mara Jade and all that) was discarted for the new movies...
I mean, it won't stop fans from caring about the content they love, whether or not it still fits within current canon. It's only normal. But there is the actual possibility that the compilation might end up discarted like it happened with Star Wars, after what Nomura said.
So, can we expect you to do a playthrough of the original before the release of the remake? That would be cool.

The whole Sephiroth never dying thing was already a fuck you to the games ending and was only used to put him in the advent children movie as something other than just a memory.

If all this shit is one of the reasons VII remake part 1 is taking so long, Then it will definitely be worth the wait.
I've said this before on other videos, but I genuinely believe it's never coming out. They'll probably announce the cancellation in about another year and a half - 2 years, and it will truly be the beginning of the end for SE.
SE demonstrated with FF15 that they are more ambitious than they are capable. The game that they were promoting for 10 years was not the game we got. Not only was the plot changed dramatically, but to me it feels like they wanted to build a lively world with a bunch of different towns and landscapes, but what they gave us was an open world with no variety of landscape, and 2 explorable towns. They could get away with it because none of us ever experienced the original vision. They don't have the same privilege with FF7. We all know how fleshed out the world of FF7 is, so they can't dumb it down like they did with 15.
It is stated that Sepiroth and the rest of the soldiers got their Abilities from Aerith’s Mother and not jenova.As the same to Sepiroth is Experimented using the jenova cells and the centra cells together.

I mean, it wouldn't be the first time the characters that died in an FF game got posthumous development - FF2's dawn of souls remake gave all the dead guys a bonus dungeon. A scene like what Tifa and Cloud had when he was le veged isn't out of the question.

Anything and everything considering RedXIII, specially his story in "On the way to a smile" that made me love the character even more. A character as deep and original just deserves to be expended. Just small developments like the cast actually starting to call him by his real name during the story (like they do) in the novel) eventually would help.
They could just make it a player choice to either play the game normal or save her by making the right choices throughout the game leading up to the point where she dies by making the right choices you can save or don't just make it a player choice and make everyone happy everyone can play the story the way They want

Man i need to catch up on the way to a smile, its the only ff7 media i havent watched, read, or played, know what im gonna catch up on later, and i know they can do a lot with the remake because they cut an entire discs worth of game for the og release, i cant wait to see what cut content makes it into the remake, also ehen aerith appeared at the end of the game as a spirit in the lifestream, knowing that she was fighting to reform herself, what if that was the moment she finished reforming herself, finishing her battle just in time to use holy on the meteor, her opening her eyes and looking up is her waking up, also i cant wait to see the gold saucer with the games that were cut and the play being the whole thing, and maybe, just maybe, a few more passages of lovelace that genesis loved loved so much, and maybe some references to the other class a soldiers, as they have a huge bearing on the rest of the ff7 seties, genesis with dirge of cerberus and vincent, who could also be more fleshed out being the way we learn of the past that was important but bulletpointed in the original, and aerith or yuffie mentioning the soldier that cloud is so similar to named zack and a flash of recognition on each of their faces when the other brings it up, stuff like that that was cut and not delved too deeply in game because they were optional characters, but they were linchpins in connecting the stories together

It's fun to look for differences and similarities between them. I think he'll appreciate the attention to details more when playing the remake, than if he played the original as an afterthought.

Playing Crisis Core first is a BAD idea. It will spoil many plot details in FF7.

Since the remake isn't going to be using the compilations story, I don't see why they would.
Although, incorporating Zacks backstory in the FFVII Remake itself seems more likely. If Genesis and Angeal are gone, which they are terrible and I hope they are; When you go into Cloud's memories in Mideel would be a great time to put in Zacks Story. You take control of Zack and Sephiroth in the past from missions before they go to Nibelheim, to finding out the Solider Cloud was referring to himself as is actually Zack. If you put it right there in the Story would be perfect and avoid the early spoiler for newbies. I say this because some people were saying they wanted Part 1 to be a remake of Zacks backstory but that would spoil things too quickly so where I am placing it makes much more sense because that's when you figure it out.
I really think they are essentially ignoring the compilation and going back to the pre compilation timeline and Genesis and Angeal and all that whack convoluted crap doesn't exist.

Best thing to do. Is get all ff games together. If ff bc is the first game we should play that timeline and the main character is whoever until the next game story and then crisis core. Then ff7..then ff7 cerberus. but doesnt need to be just playing vinney and its gun style. Then ff7ac. And have all the on the way to a smile case of characters slotted whatever to get the feels. And replaying capability. Done. Best game ever made, sorted.

As long as its good I dont mind what they do. A huge part of the appeal of FFVII to me is the story and characters so more exploring both of those would be great but it would have to be done with great care and respect for the original material. I will always love FFVII no matter what happens with the remake but I really want the remake to be great. I just hope they dont try and simplify the story or some nonsense.
I hope all the compilation is in the remake. And i hope they could do a dlc and do a comrade style thing where we can be a soldier and progress through all the storylines even promote to a turk to expand story or whatever Just to be included in the world be awesome

I feel like you're reaching a bit with this one. But it's not impossible, on the way to a smile or even a Before Crisis movie. Something to add to the FFVII experience. Maybe we'll even find out what happened with Genesis at the end of Dirge of Cerberus :x.
What sucks about these videos is ironically apart from 15, I can't watch them because I have yet to finish any of these games, save for ten. Being a FINAL FANTASY newbie and Peasant at the same time sucks. God damnit!

This is my biggest dilemma tho. I want to play all the games but I'm TOTALLY uncertain as to which I should start with. I've played ten, but when it comes to the others they seem totally different. I'm between 4 and 6 as a starting point. Also 7 is up there as a possible beginning for me. I will definitely play 9 but that game is far off for me. That's later on

I sure hope they know what they are doing. I like that they try doing something New with FF7. To some things are still a no go. The atmosphere, consisting of an excellebt soundtrack and Exploration. If it is gonna be a dirge if cerberus Kind of Action game (no cities to visit, no npcs to talk to, no map, etc) then I might have to call it a failed Experiment. If I learned anything then it is that visuals aren't everything (on the contrary, they deprive us from elementary things, visuals may be to BLAME for us getting maybe not getting any map to Explorer cities on, etc).

I just hope the finally clear the whole love triangle between cloud, aerith and tifa.
