However the average consumer does not have thousands of dollars to fight a court case over a $50 video game or a $20 toaster that burned their house down. The best most buyers can hope for is a settlement. If the case is bad enough a company might pay you to keep the issue quiet, but no matter the mountain of evidence you'd likely never win out right in court. Or if you did it would cost so much it would never be worth it.

That means they will call back (probably from a new spoofed number), knowing that their is a person using the line that will pick up, so at least they will get the chance to rattling off their speel, so at least one step closer to making a sale. They will then sell their phone list to other scammers, with yours being worth more because it's 'live'. Congratulations, you are making other scammers want to call you more by picking up the phone for unknown numbers. Legit people will leave a message.
I don't want to defend Google, but the "[insert giant company name here] pays no taxes" is an ill-informed statement. There are multiple kinds of taxes. What people sometimes mean is that the company pays no corporate income tax. Other taxes include the payroll tax, sales taxes, property taxes, and local/state taxes. Corporate income tax is levied against *profits* the company makes during a given year. Profits don't include employee, CEO, President, etc... salaries and bonuses. All the rich people in the company still have to pay personal income tax on whatever monies they get from the company each year. Those personal income tax filings are not available to the public.
