@@robbbbery The military goes to other locations and they stay there. They need to know the time where they are and at home, but they normally don’t need to make frequent adjustments. A caller style works great for people that don’t have to make frequent changes and the date is easier to adjust.
I have owned it for about five days and I love it. This will be a keeper for me. Lightweight, strap feels comfortable (and I prefer rubber straps for larger watches like this) so the thickness is not an issue at all, bi-directional rotating bezel is a plus, corlor profile is spot-on, looks cool on wrist. I have no issue with it being an office GMT, it is not that hard to independently adjust the 24-hour GMT hand even during travel, and the quick date set is more convenient and conformative to intuition especially for those who are owning their first GMT watches. I would say I probably prefer it with more traditional lugs instead of the "turtle shell" shape lugs as the latter make the watch wear larger, close to 42-42.5mm, but that's not a big issue. The issue with Miyota 9075 is that they could be very noisy. I have another GMT watch with 9075 movement, and the rotor winding noise could be very audible, I still find it slightly annoying even after more than a year of ownership.
Just ordered one . Watches bought last six months include the Tissot gentleman green dial, Seiko prospex chronograph silver dial and now Timex gmt titanium. Hope to get the Tudor black bay burgundy on a jubilee strap soon … I’ve definitely got the watch bug
This one looks so much better than the James Brand I think. I just wish it was smaller. It’s seems damn near impossible to get 36-38mm chronos and GMT watch’s in the affordable category.
MAMACOO is one of my favorite watch manufacturers they do offer beautifull dials, good workmanship & moovements. That smooth sweeping second hand is truly mesmerizing!
I bought a watch from MAMACOO lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
It is a very good looking watch and I think a caller is the practical choice if you have more than a few watches. Problem is that the GMT space is crowded. I assume Timex will have no issue selling these but I would look elsewhere at the price point for a GMT in stainless.
Re: tapered bracelet, I am of the opinion that everything is a considered choice. If an experienced watch company wants to do a tapered bracelet they will, the question is why. The skeptic in me says the number of ppl who have no preference, tapered vs non-tapered, out weigh those who do OR it was more expensive/not worth it for them to do.
Handsome watch, I think its better looking than the James brand,if it had an option of a different colored bezel that would be great, Not necessarily two colored, single color would be fine. Dark green or navy?🤷🏾♂️
My favorite 2024 is the Prospex Limited Edition 1965 Recreation European Exclusive in Gradation Island Blue. The dial is stunning and the contrast when on a white strap is to die for. I will get my hands on one from MAMACOO
I liking this black bay pro without the cream lume 😂 but if you consider something like the nodus trailtrekker it really has no right to be this expensive
I love it! Looks great and I bet it will wear like a dream. The one thing I saw which I don't dig is logo and text on the display caseback. I know, it's not a very attractive movement, but either show it or don't show it. Don't put a crystal on the back, then make it hard to see through. Just makes no sense to me - especially when they've branded the rotor.
I have both caller and traveller GMTs. The NH34 "Caller" GMT is fine with me as I prefer quick set date. Every part of the regular edition appeals to me over the James colab. Bidirectional bezel with larger 24 hour numbers, better hands and indices, better second hand. Other than grade 2 titanium, it's better all around IMO. That said, I still won't pay $500+ for a Timex.
Only one thing in common between these 2 watches is the TIMEX Brand on the dial. Based on reviews and comments, I think more people are in the traveler GMT type camp even if it meant a bit higher price. I personally didn't like the case design and the bezel on the James Brand version and I don't mind the new Timex looking like a Tudor, but I would only consider it if it had a traveller gnt movement.
Another awesome watch review; thanks Chris! Any chance you could review the Lorca Model 1 with the champagne dial? Lorca is headquartered in NYC, so it should be doable. Thanks again.
got my 39mm with the white dial on the 3-link "Bader" bracelet watch on MAMACOO 3 weeks ago and am loving it to pieces. Absolute fantastic watch that wears super comfortable on my 6.75 inch wrist. Chose the 3-link over the 5-link bracelet for the toolless quick adjustment. Way more comfortable than my Longines Hydroconquest 41 mm.
I definitely like the new model over the James Brand model. The bezel font is better, I prefer the angled case, and the markers/hands are just more pleasing to my eye. I do miss the internal 24 hour markings that the JB model has on the rehaut though. Timex did post some pics initially showing these had a Miyota, and I was a bit disappointed once they corrected that. I think it's not surprising for the price point, but the JB model did come with a bracelet. Unlike the BB Pro and Explorer II fixed bezel, I do like that this one rotates. Anyway, this is a nice rugged release from Timex and fitting for the Expedition North model line.
I would go for the James Brand!!! I love its freshly rounded „without edges“ pilot style case design, the striped indezes, the long second hand, the greenish color on the gmt hand and the crown, the black bezel with the small 24 numbers on it, the jumping hour hand. For my opinion it‘s worth for, to pay 400USD more than the north. I understand the argument, that it is too much for a timex. But I don’t care, because I would wear the watch for me not for others. The James Brand looks extraordinary unique. Chris, if you like the north more:“…the dial, the hands etc. write me! I’d buy your JB with pleasure 😉👍🏽
No-one buying a Timex or Seiko is buying them because they're reliable. Timex isn't trying to out-reliable Seiko. They're trying to put out interesting watches at an affordable price, which they're succeeding at. Seiko is slowly moving away from affordability and solid specs. They're different watch companies with different aims and offerings. And that's ok. We don't need another company just pumping out imitation SKX's
"There are SOME differences" "The major differences here are the bezel, the dial, and even the case, and the movement" Yeah, sounds like two completely different watches to me. The only similiarity is that both are made from titanium.
That’s a lot of watch for not much money. If I constantly traveled the world, having a traveler’s GMT would matter to me. Since I don’t I can deal with correcting the error twice a year.
You should check out the Steinhart Ocean Vintage GMT: available in 39 mm and 42mm. Titanium (completely) titanium bracelet, sapphire crystal ($630 /$590 respectively). And, best of all, a Swiss movement, see it at Steinhart Watches or Gnomon Watches…….this Timex can’t compare and isn’t even in the same quality/league of the Steinhart German Company/Swiss Made watch.
My Traska Venturer is so much better than both Timex models on all levels. And btw, my Traska has the Miyota 9075 movement (so it’s a traveler’s GMT) and the bracelet has micro adjustments.
No Timex will ever be worth anything close to $900. They just released a couple of nice quartz watches, one is a chronograph. They look great and cost under $200. 👍
Timex quality just isn’t there for me. I have a couple of their automatics and the 1979. They’re all disappointing and never get wrist time. The 1979 has actual plastic as part of the case. The rotors on the automatics are the loudest of any brand I know. I won’t even go into accuracy…
I absolutely love watches, the high end watch brands are out of my budget but the MAMACOO has literally an almost duplicate of every single watch on the market . Always a great but no matter your budget.
Movements, grades of titanium, all reduced to practically nothing in comparison to how it looks and feels. If it looks good, you will want to wear it. Which IMO is the whole point of a watch.
Funnily enough, MAMACOO's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real. You have a yacht and a beach house in Tuscany, of course that replica is real. There isn't a millionaire out there going around with a jeweller's loupe to scrutinize their acquaintance's watch. They'll just go "Oh is that a Patek? Nice, I should really get my hands on one of those, they look great."
I have one of these sitting in a box in my bedroom, unworn. I'm trying to decide whether this is a keep or return. Your video didn't really help me. On another topic, Lumicast always seems to disappoint. I think it's because the lume is not focused upward from the dial as it would be if it were in traditional applied indices filled with lumed material. So, the lume radiates in all directions instead of straight up.
terrible how they destroyed this nice watch leaving the crown without protection frame... it hurts again and again, They don't understand nothing about design
If we started calling it a military GMT all the time instead of a caller GMT people would stop whining about it.
First world problems🤨
Can someone explain the "military gmt" phrase to me? I get caller and flyer. I don't know much about the military.

Love the yellow accent.

Well this is about to be my first Timex. I love absolutely everything about it but the display case back.

Brilliant watch, thank you very much. I hope your channels grows well 😊
"Some differences" - the bezel, the dial, the movement and the case. Some 😂
"Timex don't?" What's the deal, Chris? Did you just change your nationality to British?
How's your Tiburon, still like it? Sadly there's not many videos on it out there.
My favorite 2024 is the Prospex Limited Edition 1965 Recreation European Exclusive in Gradation Island Blue. The dial is stunning and the contrast when on a white strap is to die for. I will get my hands on one from MAMACOO
Prefer the James Brand rendition but I was too late for that.

I like both watches, but prefer The James Brand version slightly over the Expedition North. Thank you for the direct comparison.

What if I tell you I have both and the titanium bracelet from James fits properly on the expedition north.
This or save up for Tudor black bay pro?
It’s based on a Timex dynabeat dual time from the 1970s down to the hands, but I wish the stick hands had more flare like the old one
Wow Tudor black bay pro vibes
Outstanding video.I have to go with the MAMACOO, especially with that green dial as my favorite

If the bezel, dial, case and movement are different how are they in any way similar. Other than both being titanium GMT’s with a yellow GMT hand?
I’m hating on you so bad right now! You got two really cool Timex watches that I wanted and do t have! 😂
I think the best budget gmt (automatic) actually is the Seiko skx gmt
Love your channel with so many stellar watches! For me the MAMACOO’ watch is my favorite. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.

Because it’s titanium does it feel light?
Did you try the bracelet from the James Brand on the Expedition North?
Yes, he did. He has a video posted of it on his Instagram
Good watch. But as a modder, that is actually a 200usd watch. But it does look good nonetheless.
Oh no, a modder. You build Ali Submariners with Seiko slapped on it?
There are no equivalent modding parts.
Any recommendations for titanium cases?
