    Moving to Sacramento is one of the best decisions we've ever made as Nurses. But, there are 5 things we absolutely HATE about Sacramento, California. In this video, that's what I am here to discuss.
    Sure, California offers nurses better pay, nurse-to-patient ratios, a vastly diverse environment, and so much more. But, there is also an awful side to California (specifically Sacramento California) that we can't seem to get over.
    I know I've only said nothing but good things about our life here in Sacramento. But it's time I give you an honest opinion of why we hate living here, so you can all make an informed decision about making a life-changing move all the way to the state of California.

    Sacramento is awesome because you can drive less than an hour out and find the best hikes and outdoor activities (doesn’t sound like you guys do much activities or exercise?). The weather is probably my favorite part (mostly great all year round…I moved here from North Dakota so figure why I enjoy the weather here lol). It’s also one of the most diverse cities in the country which makes it great to meet people from all over the world (do some reading and research this…it’s a major quality of Sacramento if you don’t mind interacting with other cultures and ethnicities. It’s also a city but can have a small town feel. Things I don’t like: cost of housing and increase in business thefts.

    Well dude. The thing about California is that if you want to live in a city with great weather, beauty and plenty to do( a coastal city)
    You'll need a very, very high income or plan to struggle. We're competing with the global wealthy.
    Sacramento is actually one of the better choices if you need affordable houses. At least it's not a dismal patch out in the desert.
    Anyway, sounds like you may be headed back to NY. Or another state.

    We ❤️ Sacramento. We’re from Pasadena and live in Folsom. After seeing the movie Lady Bird we visited and fell in love with the people and vibe. There’s all kinds of scenes taking off here!
    Sac gets hot for 3 months during the summer. In the evening it cools down and the weather is perfect outside for playing corn hole and having cocktails with friends. There’s also tons of water attractions and free public splash parks. If you don’t own a pool, cities like Citrus Heights and Roseville have public swimming pools where you can swim for only $5.
    My husband and I love to go out dancing with our friends. We go to block parties, concerts and events downtown throughout the year. A few dance spots we like are: Revival, Flamingo House, and The Park Ultra lounge. Bar hopping is lit here too!
    We also like to eat at: The Veg, Fire House, The Kitchen, Bacon & Butter,
    Great content! Wishing you all the best on your stay here! Subscribed!

    So was this video mainly to be informative, or do you genuinely regret moving to Sacramento? I understand, from a previous comment you intend to work for 10 years or so and retire, possibly to somewhere else, but would you still recommend Sacramento to other families?

    • @NursesToRiches
      @NursesToRiches  2 года назад +4

      Hi, Thanks for the comment! We only recommend Sacramento to families that have professions where they can earn more in Sacramento than they can back home. The reason for that is because I am a big proponent of retiring early. And if you can earn more money here, then this is where you can come to invest more and retire earlier than you might be able to back home.
      However, home prices continue to climb here faster than most cities in the country (although, there are nearby cities that still have affordable housing); the homeless population is growing exponentially; crime is getting out of hand; and it really is a boring place (everyone who tells you different either grew up here or already has family out here).

I’m 35 so I don’t need the coolest nightlife, but I want somewhere that’s not dead either. Homelessness and “crime” don’t bother me as much as I’m from along Beach and I tend to be pretty sympathetic to that as long as I’m not getting shot taking my dog out to pee… we’re good. That is such a tough one to answer. Monica and I have discussed this with each other more times than we could count. Just this morning we were looking up states we could move to with the lowest tax burden but we would like it to be as close to NYC as possible. New Hampshire seems to be the closest to a no income tax state as you could get to NYC. And unfortunately we don't want to move to Florida because the humidity there is even worse than in NY. I think ultimately we might just forget about how much we'll save in taxes and either move back to NYC, NJ, or Boston.

    Yeah no offense, you are definitely from the east coast, Florida, Texas and CA are known and often praised for their warm climates. And as far as boring, it’s a small town, I’d suggest doing your research before settling to a place to reside in, living in a place where the cost of living is relatively low is always attractive and making money is nice but you still have to be happy with your decisions also. But Sacramento is not the worth place on earth, I think you just expect more because you’re from a bigger city. The homelessness and crime is a problem anywhere you go, esp in CA but that’s something you can thank state lawmakers and the liberal consensus that CA fuels off of. But from my experience, the people from Sac are actually really nice and down to earth. I’d suggest immersing yourself in the community and hopefully that helps

    • @Mukanimou

      We've visited almost town in the Bay area, and the ones that are even remotely affordable are in areas that are too sketchy to raise a family. The ones, that are in relatively safe locations, are too expensive to live in, even when you take into account the higher salaries.
      We moved to Sacramento because we were looking for a lower cost of living area with Bay area wages. Even though we hate these 5 things about Sacramento, we are still set on reaching goal we had originally set out for ourselves: to get out of debt, invest our money, and retire as early as possible.
      We could not be able to accomplish that in another other town in or around the Bay area in the same amount of time we're going to be able to do so here in Sacramento.

    Plenty to do in Sac. Downtown Sac especially. Theaters, NBA Arena, Nice Restaurants everywhere, Triple A Baseball, plenty of things to do here. Summer gets hot cause duh it’s the Summer lol. Been here since 2002 and love it. Crime is not a problem here in N. Natomas. There are bad parts in every City. Homelessness is a world wide problem not just in Sac. The City will be constructing new Buildings to house the homeless. Also, Sac is one of the cheapest places to live in the entire State. Dude you are seriously trippen 😂

    • @NursesToRiches
      @NursesToRiches  Год назад +4

      If you've been to any other major city in the US long enough you will understand that the downtown sac area can get pretty boring after having visited it more than a handful of times.
      Summer does get hot, and there are many other cities in the US that do not get as hot as this one.
      Crime is not a problem? Overall, Sacramento ranks #7 in California for cities with the highest level of violent and non violent crime. We have had our car broken into twice, our garage broken into once with one of our bikes being stolen, we've also had our arlo camera stolen from 12 up the front of our house. I have not had a friend or coworker who has not either been a victim of or a witness to a theft or vandalism.
      Homelessness is a problem nationwide. You are right about that. But California overall has the highest homelessness rate per capita and Sacramento is no exception. And even though NYC has a larger population of homeless, it also has the highest number of sheltered homeless, so you don't see them camping out in the street.
      Again, this video is an opinion and you are free to disagree. If you enjoy living here and see no problem with it, that's your opinion.

      We haven't tried living in another California city but have traveled and stayed in most cities in California. Honestly the only ones we've actually enjoyed are way too expensive to live in (like Carmel By The Sea). But, in the 5 years we've been here in the Sacramento region, there seems to be more and more crime and an increase in the homeless population year after year.

      @@NursesToRiches Honestly, this is so true. During the time that it got bad, I was in Los Angeles and when I moved back to Sacramento, it was a culture shock to see so many lots that were once empty, now full of homeless people. It was never this bad. Rent has also increased here it’s mind blowing. There is also crime in areas where there once wasn’t. I would move to NYC but it’s so expensive and I’d miss having a car. I considered moving to Jersey but I want to pursue acting and now nursing as a back up/career in case acting falls through. Sacramento really isn’t that bad of a city in general. It has gotten worse though so you are right. LA just tired me out. It’s hard to have genuine friends there, and neighborhoods are sectioned off by race sometimes and classism if you look closer, it’s there. Also, people can be fake sometimes. The natives are awesome though. It can be tough, but I didn’t like it that much. NYC is just better. The food. The people. The culture. I just wish the major major acting/film studios were there..it’s all in CA. That’s the only my thing keeping me here.

    Reason #1 Homelessness, just getting worse. They are becoming a homeless class with their own unions. More homeless walking down streets than working civilians. There needs to be an ordinance for not begging on roadway medians! They are literally camped out in middle of roadways begging. Closeted thing to a real zombie apocalypse!These are not people just down on their luck. Homeless and the mental illness that goes along with it are a result of society and institutions, perpetual homelessness. Moreover they’re given free phones and close to $300 a month when they get here. #2 crime from all the homeless, nothing is safe unlocked, the iron fence business is thriving.

We also have an NBA Basketball team, a Minor League Baseball team, and a soon-to-be MLS Soccer team. For many who have lived in other cities and come visit us, they often tell us Sacramento is not a city. I totally understand where they're coming from because, as you mentioned "go west 1 hour and be in San Francisco, North an hour and be in Reno, or an hour east and be in Lake Tahoe". None of those places are in Sacramento. In the video I said "Sacramento" is boring, not all of the places you mentioned. Let's be real, Downtown Sacramento is not "lively", nor is old sac, when you compare it to other major cities. Downtown Sacramento is often so dead that you only see a handful of people walking there, and the same goes for old sac. Also, once you've been to those places once, you've seen everything there is to see in Sacramento.
      There are other cities in the US: Boston, NYC, Miami, Waikiki, etc... That have a much more vibrant atmosphere than Sacramento.
