1st vid of yours I’ve watch. I also come from humble beginnings, I moved from Haiti at the age of 9, but at 21, I’m blessed to have graduated nursing school and getting ready to take my NCLEX-RN next month. 🎉🎊
@@quelquun2018 congrats! We've all come a long way, man. Hard work DOES pay off 🙂.
Is California safe for us black African immigrants. You know 😅 USA get kill you at any point in time.
I’m a nurse here in Ga and been a follower of yours for a while. I admire your humble beginnings but also how you still seem well rounded. Congratulations to you and your wife’s accomplishments!!
Thank you so much!!
graduated from nursing school here in Socal ! I work in the ER and is a 3:1 ratio...which is great. I make a pretty decent living and spend my days going to the beach or heading up to SD for the weekend. If my friends are up to it sometimes we go snowboarding on the weekends and hit up the mountains. In Socal the rent is definitely more expensive than Sacramento but I have been living with a roommate and have been saving a little money on the side to get my own place. California definitely pays well for nurses I can say that ! There are a lot of travelers from out of state who take assignments here and they get paid pretty well too !
You have a 3:1 ratio! Even better than ours! Lol. We do get 1:1 if it's an ICU or a restrained patient, though. So at least we have that going for us 😃. We were actually going to move to San Diego when we first decided to move to California but the cost of living just didn't make sense to us because we wanted to make more money And have a lower cost of living. So Sacramento ended up working well for us. Plus, like you, we do have slopes near us so we get to go snowboarding in Tahoe every season. And, yeah, you're right about the travelers-we have sooo many of them and many of them end up getting permanent positions with us, too.
Wow, you really just solidified all I’ve been dreaming of! I’m going to apply for my California nursing license ASAP. You guys are so inspirational‼️
Aww, glad you found the video helpful. Thanks so much for the comment!
@@NursesToRiches An immigrant nurse just got my Rn license from California, legally living in MN, please help should I move there or endorse my license

This was a great rewatch. You are inspiring my future decisions, that is for certain.
Thanks for being very transparent in all your videos still catching up going through all of them. Have you ever considered doing any live shows where people call in? I’m not sure how you would set this up over here on youtube unless you’ve already done this no matter what your greatly appreciated

Hi Nurses To Riches
Thank you so so much for the information
Am currently a anesthetic assistant and recovery nurse in South Africa busy my nclex to relocate that side.
I wanted to know can one still continue with their specialization in the USA or should I have to start from scratch with the usa requirements for one to become a RN anesthetic assistant?
Just subscribed now to your video

May you make a vid for benefits and perks of rn’s in cali? Would it differ from cities to one?
Thank you for posting this!! I live in fl and I hate it plus the wages are so low. I’m in nursing school now and when I take the nclex I want to get endorsed for California so I can move there sell my house in fl
I just became a nurse and i like your videos
I have always loved living in California in general but I worry about the living expenses
You recommended Sacramento and i like that you mentioned its the lowest among all cities. Hopefully when i have more experience i will move there
Great video! Thanks for the info. I'd be interested in trends in pay for areas of California if you have any of that
I have contracts for Stanford, all of the Northern Kaiser Hospitals, Sutter Roseville, and all of the UC hospitals in California. I'll be making a video comparing all of their salaries (including differentials) in the near future.
Great video! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you!
This channel is so underrated!! Thanks for the informative videos. I’m planning on moving to California to work as an RN and these help so much!
Wow, thank you so much! Comments like yours motivate me to keep making more videos.
I started making these videos because I remember being interested in moving to California with my wife but not knowing anything about what nurses made. So I'm glad I'm able to help you with the information I've provided.
Good luck with everything and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Great video. Cool video editing bro. Keep it up!

Thank you so much. I’m in such a bad financial space and this gives me hope for mine and my families future.

I can relate coming from humble beginnings. I too love to travel in my RV. I recently moved to California from the Midwest. Currently an LVN graduate and working on nursing and engineering degree
Hi! What state did you come from? I’m currently in Wisconsin wanting to move to California once I get my ADN
New to your channel and you are providing great content. Thank you! I am a new student with a career change into RN. Man I also want to leave California, now I may have decide to stay after becoming an RN.
Wow, thank you so much! You're making a great choice!
Thank you 🤍
Hi I’m a new subscriber. Great video, looking forward to watching more.
Thank you! Glad you liked the video.
I am a male traveling RN/LVN and soon to be LNC-JD. My wife is a RN too who is finishing up her psy NP. I lived in CA for 12 years and then 1 year for many reasons $$$. Anyway, I do plan to move to Sacramento or near by. I live like videos. We did make the 6 from the covid in CA. Yeah!
Moved to California because of you! As a new grad. Trying to get into the competitive new grad programs.
Aww, good luck! I have plenty of coworkers that used to be Techs and are now nurses working at Kaiser.
Great content manin sigue pa lante
Ayyy Carlos, thanks dude!
Great video
Thank you!
Hi. Can you make a video about water crisis, drought and inflation and people moving out of California. For nurses who plans to move in Sacramento, do we need to worry about these things?
Can we see a video about neighboring states? Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Seattle?
Awaiting your interview with Certified Anestheologist assistant (CAA)
Just found your channel! This is the first video I watched on it. Great job! My wife and I are both nurses as well but in Hawaii on Oahu. COL here is more expensive then most states. I want to know what’s your buys budgeting looks like. We also have 4 kids but once we sat down and really started being as frugal as we could, we’re able to knock debt and save at the same time. And hopefully soon start investing. Having a budget is one of the greatest tools to wealth. You know exactly what’s coming and going. Keep up the great work!
Hi! Thanks for watching our video 😁. It's great to hear from nursing couples from other states. Actually, your comment has given me an idea for a next video. I would say our budget currently is higher than I would like it to be. We spend about 36% of our pre-parental-leave pay on things including mortgage, utilities, groceries, gas, auto insurance. I will go into specific numbers and categories when I make the video, if you're interested.
Hello bro. I am an Medsurg/ Tele nurse planning to move to California and your video was very educational
Thanks so much!
I’m so glad I found your video. I have so many questions about moving to California and you’ve provided me with some answers. Like you, my wife and I are both nurses so this info will be useful for us moving forward. Have a blessed day!
I'm so glad to hear that! My next video will in depth regarding salaries based on years of experience at Kaiser, Sutter, UC Davis. But in the near future, I will be comparing salaries of Kaiser, Sutter, Stanford, and all UC hospitals in California.
@@NursesToRiches How hard is it to apply and get a job to one of these hospitals? I heard that Kaiser is very competitive? What about UC Davis? Thanks in advance :)
The easiest one to get into will be Sutter Roseville. I was offered a job there a few days after I applied, and 5 minutes after interviewing. Kaiser Permanente will be the hardest to get into on this list, and may take a few months. However, they are hiring like crazy right now, so apply!
Great job 👏 👏👏👍👍👍
Thanks, Alex, you're awesome!
Thanks for sharing. Great video! I live in Southern CT near NY border. I work in Westchester County, NY as an RN. I feel tempted to move to California. Visited San Diego for the first time and loved it!
Lived in MD never moved to another state but been thinking. About moving interested in talking more with you for help in deciding work as IMC cardiac RN.
Rewatching your videos . . . Absolutely great video compared to others out there. My nursing journey is still in process but did encounter a temporary delay.
Get back on that horse. You've got this! We had a lot of challenges (evictions, multiple job layoffs, poverty, etc...) but we made it. You just gotta keep pushing through.
Yessss!!!! And please I want a home tour!!!! And bring Monica!!!!
Thanks for the comment Brittany! Monica is afraid to be on film right now because she's pregnant and says she feels like a beluga whale, lol. We're gonna do the home tour after she delivers.
Thanks for this video.am planning to move to Sacramento. You are right in all you have said.pls do more video on the benefits and job opportunities and how you bought a bought a home. How much did you out down a s how much will you pay monthly.thank you
Thank you so much for your comment! I will definitely be posting more videos in the short future focusing on more benefits of working and living here in Sacramento. And discussing how we purchased our home and how much we pay monthly is also on my list. Stay tuned!
Hi guys,am really intrigued by all your videos and I love the information you’re giving. I know you’re mostly talking about US nurses moving to California but am a UK based Nurse and believe it or not after watching your videos am really planning on moving to California. Would you just advise if it’s a good financial move to relocate from the UK to California ,I have a family with 2kids and am a registered nurse in the UK. I will appreciate your response
Thank you. I want to start the nursing program. I am no where near it. But you and others I’ve watched convince me. If you have not yet because I am about to watch all of your videos subscribe and like. Lol. Could make a video on where to start and I am 36 years. Isn’t it too late to get into it
I definitely need to work on getting my California RN license. Btw I’m a Canadian nurse. Thanks for the info
You're welcome! All nurses are welcome here 🙂
New subscriber here and I already love the channel! I’ve been searching for these kinds of videos. How are the hospitals in the Sacramento area in regards to new grads? I’m currently in Fl and won’t be graduating nursing school for another year but my goal is to live in Northern California for all the reasons you’ve mentioned. Is it usually required to have years of experience in order to work in one these hospitals? I’m wanting to get out of Fl ASAP after graduation. Also, do you know if a BSN is required? I will be obtaining my ASN. Thanks in advance!
Hi, thanks for commenting! Actually, just like any other state, as a new grad, you just have to apply for any and every position available (even if the posting says 1 year of experience is required). My wife has a friend who moved from NYC to Sacramento after getting her ADN because she was offered a job at Sutter Davis in a PACU. And, as a new grad, you just have to be willing to accept an offer in any hospital when you move here. After your first year of experience it'll be even easier.
My wife moved here with no Tele experience. It took her 100 applications and 6 interviews before she was offered a job in a Tele unit.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks Jason your videos are very informative. My Daughter is a RN in San Diego and I’ve been telling her that she’s in a great situation here in Cali and especially focusing on the 401k and retiring early. The 401 k break down MD vs Rn was excellent. If your ever in the San Diego area let us know.
Wow, thank you so much for the positive feedback, Fabio! Your daughter has a great father because it sounds like you taught her how to make sound financial decisions. And, thanks for extending an offer to meet up if we're ever down in San Diego 😁.

Hi Jason, Thanks for the videos and all the fantastic information you provide. I needed your videos.
Are you still recommending moving to CA as a nurse in 2022 and is the pay rate mentioned in other videos still stands or were COVID rate?
Hi! The only rates that were affected by covid are the rates travelers were being offered. Nurses in Northern California have rates secured by their nurse's unions and at the moment, nurses that are fighting to secure new contracts actually have the advantage of citing inflation when they go into negotiations and asking for wage increases that are more aligned with the rate of inflation. For example, Stanford Nurses went on strike because their hospital was trying to offer them a 10% wage increase over 3 years. Instead they ended up receiving a 17% raise over 3 years.
So, Northern California Nurses are, and will continue to be, the highest paid nurses in the entire country, regardless of what new catastrophic event is going on in the world.
Nice vlog
.... So dope!
So happy for you Jason. We started our nursing journey together.
Good luck for everything.
Jiffy! I miss you guys so much! Thank you! Where are you living/working now?
I am an RN planning to move to California. Watching your videos provides me helpful tips and infos. I would like to suggest if you can make a video about buying a house in California as we all know it is very expensive to buy one in there. Thanks!
That's a great idea. I'll add it to my list! Thanks!
thank you for this. im living in texas and still can not decide whether to stay in TX or move to California.

Can you please tell the procedure of coming to California, for overseas Nurses 😊
I appreciate your effort for making this channel. I’m also a nurse from the Philippines. I can relate with you guys cause I came from humble beginnings. Big family with no house of our own. I studied hard to get a full nursing scholarship in college. Waited 2 years post college to get a job as a nurse as the hiring system in the Philippines back then was quite corrupted. I’m currently working in the UK , love it here but I don’t want to regret not trying to work in the US. I’m hoping and praying to work in the States in 2-3 years time. I just started my NCLEX application. Hope everything goes well. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the comment! Sounds like you are already on the right track to coming to work in the US. Just remember, the US is a HUGE country and every state has its differences in the way that they treats and pays their nurses. That's why Monica and I chose to live in California-this state treats and pays nurses better than any other.
Please help us know cheap places to live in California. And cost of living
Hello I would like you to please discuss the income of being a nurse anesthetist in California specifically in Sacramento . What is the ratio of patients if you are a nurse snesthetist .thanks
So loved your video, bro. My wife and I are both RN in Colorado. We're all from other countries and educated overseas. Now we're planning to move to California!(I love San Diego. Who don't?) Thanks for all your information.
Hey, what I heard about overtime in California that is every hour more than 8 hrs on a day counts overtime 1.5 times. Isn't it false?
Thank you! I have the contract for San Diego Kaiser and will have to make a video about that, but generally speaking, the pay in Southern California is going to be anywhere from $40/hr-$55/hr, in Central California you'll be looking at $45/hr-$60/hr, and in Northern California you'll be paid anywhere from $50/hr all the way to around $140/hr depending on the amount of experience you have and how long you work for the hospital.
With regards to OT, you must be hired as an 8-hour-shift employee in order to qualify for the 1.5x your rate after 8 hours of work in one day. Meaning, you will get paid at your base rate for the first 8 hours and 1.5x your base from the 8th to the 12th hour. But, if you're hired as a 12-hour-shift employee, you won't qualify for the 1.5x pay after 8 hours. You will, however, qualify for the 2.0x your base after the 12th hour, regardless if you've been hired as an 8-hour-shift or 12-hour-shift employee.
Hi,
My CGFNS report is being done but an ITIN number is required and that is taking lots of time. I'm currently working in the UK. I'm tired of waiting for the ITIN number. Can you tell me for international nurses how long it will take from the application process and to be in the California?
Can we get the details about income and etc? And is it family friendly?
Thanks for this! I'm a new grad in Florida and I want to move to California due to most of the reasons you mentioned plus the horrible pay to COL ratio here. How could I make that happen? I have an idea of the things I need to do, but I'd appreciate some of your thoughts. Would I need any prior experience before moving? Or could I move right away as a new RN.
Hi, you don't need prior experience to get a job in California. However, I tell this to everyone who asks me the question you're asking me: just get your license in both states and apply for work in both states. If you get an offer in your home state first, then take it. Continue to apply for a job in California while your work in your home state. Then, move to California after you get a job offer.
On the other hand, if you first get an offer to work in California, then you're in luck, and you can move to California immediately after passing your boards.
Hey Jason,
My wife showed me your channel and this video and I’m grateful for it. My wife is a ICU nurse and we been thinking about moving to Sacramento. I am also in the medical field. If possible could I ask you a few questions about moving to California?

Hi Jason
Can you make a video on how canadian nurses can move to California??
Hey Jason & Monica! I found you from Think Media's Channel.
This is your first video?? The quality is on point! The audio's crispy, video is smooth, and the light looks good. You don't see many new channels looking this good. Plus your editing and purpose of making the video's clear! I hope y'all keep creating and stay after it 💪
Thanks for the what you do during your "day job" as a nurse as well. While you're in California you gotta get to Yosemite if you haven't been. Hiking Half Dome is one of the best hikes I've seen anywhere in the world!
As for me (My name’s Ryan!) I jumped onto RUclips as a creator to motivate people and push them outside their comfort zones. Life is short and we only get so much time! Our time is limited, non-refundable, and never stops. As a creator I kinda feel like my goal is to get people off RUclips and into their life... which is a bit of a conflict in my own 🧠! Nonetheless, the main goal is to entertain and educate people in travel, self-development, and love in action! ❤️
Cheers to your future success on the platform! 🙌 Keep bringing value to those watching your content! 🎥 🍿
Much love! ❤️
Wow, Ryan, thank you so much much for the kind words!
Monica and I love road trips and traveling. So, hiking Half Dome is definitely on our bucket list--we just need to improve our stamina (the pandemic has made us lazy).
I saw some videos on your channel--they're really great! Keep it up!
@@NursesToRiches You're welcome 😃
Half Dome is a must do hands down! Even if you feel you're a bit out of shape. The views at the top are straight out of a stock computer background!
Thanks for the positive feedback! That means a lot coming from another creative like yourself.
@@NursesToRiches Also, I tried to reply to the comment you left on my video but I couldn't view it for some reason. I saw the beginning though and I'm glad you came by! Welcome to the community 😃
That was a tough video piece to put together but I'm glad it made an impact ❤️
How long does it usually take you to edit your videos?
@@NursesToRiches Depends on the type of video. My longer stories like the abandoned building took probably around 30 hours I'd say.
My plan moving forward is to pump out two a week (hopefully). One will be a bigger production like the Turning Stones, then one will be a how to, or step by step video that doesn't take nearly as long to edit.
I'm damn interested in your contents😩😩😩😩❤️❤️❤️. As a matter of fact , I'm about to start nursing school and you really have gingered me. I mean who hates a fat pay check?😌

Hi. We appreciate your constructive info. Can I get a job in California as an assistant nurse with a health care assistance certificate (,caregiver)🙏🌼🇿🇦
Great content. I am planning on moving to USA but as new nurse I could only find SNF job in CA. So my concern is to find challenging to find job in hospital after completing my agreement. Or I could choose hospital placement in different states and move after completing the agreement. Any recommendations?
There are more jobs available in California than just SNF jobs. However, getting licensed in California and finding a job as a foreignor will take much longer than trying to do this in another state and then moving to California.
HI. if ever, a vlog that can help immigrant filipino nurses who has a job offer in california? how would be the starting salary for foreign nurses?tips for accommodation, cost of living etc. thank you
Hello you're doing a great job, am a nurse based in the UK. Thinking of moving to the US. Could you do a video of healthcare insurance, its affordability and how much it cost an average family of 5 to pay for healthcare. In the UK healthcare is free, and quite cheaper. The reason is I want to know the major costs one will have to incur on a monthly basis, and what they can save after that. My wife isn't a nurse and she earns lower than I do, what are our chances to be able to save reasonably and invest for our retirement?
Can you comment on the job market in Sacramento. I've heard other nurses on RUclips from the Bay area saying that it's pretty tough getting a job in that area of California especially when you're a new grad.
That is correct about new grads. However, a hospital like Dignity Health or a smaller community hospital like Ride Out will hire a new grad in a heartbeat when you compare it to Kaiser, Sutter, and UC Davis.
I can say that at the moment, because I am well informed about available positions in the 3 Kaiser hospitals in this area (as well as Sutter Roseville), they are in desperate need for nurses. Many of these hospitals are severely understaffed. So, if you are a new grad, apply to a smaller hospital, get at least 6 months of experience, then apply to one of the top 3. And, if you already have experience, apply ASAP because we need more nurses!
Also, I will be posting a video in the coming weeks on the process I took to apply for jobs and get hired in this area.
As a new grad who’s currently trying to find a job here in Sacramento, they will NOT hire you in a heartbeat. I have hundreds and hundreds of applications out (willing to commute up to 2.5 hours round trip) and I can’t even get a call back. Please stop telling people to come here.
Hi Jaison, I am working with state psych hospital, mother of a special kid 14 years, planning for CA license, more than 20 years of experience, but struggled a lot related to work, child care, spouse job, etc. lots of other things..do you think Moving is a good idea for me?? Hi Jason! Im so glad I found your channel. Its very informative. 😊
Im a nurse here in the UK. Planning to move to the US in a couple of years with my husband and our baby. We applied at New York State Board of Nursing as we heard its the fastest State to give us license after our NCLEX.
My questions..
1. Is it better for us to get an agency to assist us while we start in California or apply directly to hospital?
2. If we choose to live in other states like Oregon, Massachusetts or Nevada.. Do these states have reciprocity to California in case we decide to move to Sacramento after 2 yrs?
Thanks so much for your reply.
Hi!
1. You could try to do approach either way: apply on your own first, if you have no luck, go with an agency. I have a few coworkers that came to the US from Canada and the UK. One of them chose to go with an agency and the other applied on her own. They both managed to find a hospital that would hire them in the US, before they came to Kaiser.
2. There is no reciprocity with RN licenses obtained outside of California. So, if you want to work in California, you will have to apply for a license here in California (although, you don't have to take the NCLEX a second time if you've already taken it). You will have to provide transcripts, fingerprints, and other information to the California board of nursing before you can obtain your license here. The California board of nursing outlines the steps that you have to follow, and as long as you follow them, you will not have a hard time obtaining your license.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@@NursesToRichesOh Thanks so much! Great help.
Would you recommend a good agency?
Do you have any idea if how much is the rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in Sacramento.
How much is the cost of a 3 bedroom house if planning to buy one.
Man I need to talk to you ASAP. I'm prior military so my application will be rushed 2 weeks. I just have to fly out to get the livescan done as soon as possible. I just want to do travel assignments in CA. Do you do consultations?

Hi! Thanks for your video! We are a nurse couple from Florida and are looking for new beginnings what city would you recommend to work in to make a good living and afford a home?
Hi, Thanks for watching! You can watch my latest video. I go over our favorite neighborhoods in the Sacramento area. And I discuss median home prices.
@@NursesToRiches thank you :)!
Hi, really love your presentation. I want to know how simple /difficult it is for foreign trained nurse to register with California board of nursing. Thank you
Hi, as long as you can meet these requirements www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.rn.ca.gov/pdfs/education/edp-i-35.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwijh47ipen3AhUAnGoFHYYTCkEQFnoECA4QBg&usg=AOvVaw0ZxyWcNamrluRZ5mWx4uNH you should be able to get a California license as a foreign-trained nurse. I have MANY coworkers that got their training outside of the US.
Hi, really appreciate your quick response, thank you, from south africa.
@@okaforloveth7874 you're welcome!
Great video!! Making me want to move to Sacramento
Haha, thanks! We need more people to move to Sacramento. There's plenty of room for every body! 😃
Great video, I’m in SoCal, just passed my NCLEX a month ago, and I have a toddler and baby due in September, wife works from home, and I already work from home as an epidemiologist. I know everyone usually works at hospital first year out of school but With my family dynamic I can’t be working a hectic night hospital schedule. I was thinking of working at a clinic with more manageable hours. Do you think it will be hard for me to do hospital later on In life when kids are older since I will start at a clinic right out of school?
Hi sorry for the late reply, but clinic positions are hard to come by for external applicants because they are usually snatched up by current Kaiser employees. But, if you do manage to snatched one up, it wouldn't be difficult to switch departments once you're in the Kaiser system, as long as the area you apply to is not above your current level of expertise (for example, it's very easy to go from one clinic position to another, or from clinic to perhaps, med surg, patient care coordinator, or home health. But it's almost impossible to go from a clinic position to the ED, ICU, PACU, OR, and even telemetry because they require a higher level of training and Kaiser doesn't do well with cross training nurses into acute care areas if they've never had experience in said areas.
@@NursesToRiches hi I’m actually working for the county of Los Angeles, and I’ve already been there 15 years as an epidemiologist so I want to continue so I will work at county since I already have a good amount of time vested in and the benefits are comparable to Kaiser, It’ll work at clinic and I guess I’ll see my options after that, I was asking in the general sense but thanks for replying!
Hi! :) May I ask, did you and Monica consider travel nursing as well? If so, may I ask why you both chose staff nursing in California versus travel nursing? Are you both still able to find ample time off to take multiple vacations a year for fun? I'm 24 and am considering travel nursing to be able to explore different countries in my free time but I also am really considering moving to California as well!
Hi Zheng, we have so much time off it almost feels like we barely work some times. We chose staff nursing instead of travel nursing because we had a kid (now two) and we wanted some stability for her and for ourselves. Plus, Kaiser has some of the best benefits in the entire country, which is why we couldn't pass it up. I currently work 20 hours a week and still make well over 100k/yr, and easily 200k/yr if I just work extra hours on the days I'm on for work. Monica is a per diem nurse earning $118/hr and she just follows my schedule so we can both have the same days off and travel together.
@@NursesToRiches does Kaiser has psychiatry department? If yes, how much the average pay and benefits for Psych NP. TIA.
Hi can I endorse my New York BON license to California while being outside the US ?
Congratulations Nurse Jason. I'm a RN in Nigeria intending to relocate to usa precisely california. Could you please assist me 🙏
