  • The "S. S. Julie" is finally finished. It only took me 9 short months to complete. Better late than never. She's 16 1/2 feet long and weighs 70 pounds. The strips are mostly Western Red Cedar. The decks and accent strips are made from Aspen and Mahogany. The gunwales, yoke and seats are made from Ash. The video is a little long so if you want to see if she floats fast forward to the 6:30 mark.

VERY nice canoe, i don't have the money nor the space to build a fine canoe as you have, i trust you will get many years from this boat and that other people can appreciate all the work that went into this 'art on the water'.

53 year and 22 canoes later i respect this guys work. I still do (hurt your hips) full scale waterline&form cross section layout on my basement floor. Use frezzer wrap or template paper. 100$+ .03Micron colored pens,Inca stainless drafting rules(Woodcrafter store), and mucho measuring&point plotting. When someone asks for form templates it's not just as easy as you think. MY designs are based on intended end use, not the same hulls that have been copied over&over!

Nice job! It's good to see that a cedar strip canoe can be built without a whole crew carpenters. These are such beautiful boats, especially since they're almost always given a bright (clear) finish.
    Thanks for the video.

I gave up on filming a time lapse half way through putting together a 6000 peace puzzle over a month long period, so I know how frustrating it is to always have the camera set up, running, and storing all the footage. A cedar canoe is obviously a much larger project then a puzzle, great work keeping up with filming the time lapse through all the tedious hours put into this project.

It has been my dream to build a canoe for about 30 years, but things always kept getting the way of being able to obtain the tools, and the space required for the build. Now that I have all the tools required, and will have the space to make the build in a few months, I wan't to collect as much information as I can. Thanks
