I was very fat at 14 and I got a longboard, save up some money, maybe buy a used one. Lose some weight, and when you feel confident jump on a skate board man!
Setting up your board with little designs and cut outs is an absolute waste of time especially if you go through boards like toilet paper on Taco Tuesday.

@paultunstall7126 that's basic woodworking, scuff before priming, painting, gluing, anything that has to do with something needing to stick, especially if it has a slick finish. That's doesn't mean grip tape won't stick. Like the guy said, for best adhesion scuff it.

Get a good brand, like blind, zero, or girl, and the skate shop will set you up with everything else.

My grip tape always had to be unique
Cutting off the excess grip tape at the end is so satisfying

Yeah changing grip can be tough...but really, this isn't hard at all! The tears have no rhyme or reason, and you just slap them down wherever!

@@jamersk8he didn't scuff/sand the wood first. It won't necessarily come off, but for best adhesion, sand the surface, everyone should know that.
