I have close to 2000 hours in ESO. I remember the good shit like summerset, orsinium, clockwork city... ALL fire killer elders scrolls content with decent writing and pacing and great visuals and sounds and vibes and all that elder scrolls stuff u would want! Interesting NPCs, locations, magic. Cool shit. I haven't played or bought anything ESO in over a year because it has become so clear to me that ZOS is a lazy money printing company that really couldn't give two shits about developing quality content. I'm sure they still have lots of dev's that are passionate, but the movers and shakers at ZOS would rather make more crown crates than make better expansions.

And since Update 35 fell apart, even though Rich "My wife hates me and you" Lambert tried to dunk on the haters prior to release, they've been trying to get back in our good graces ever since but all its boiled down to is some half-baked free updates, very little new offerings for Plus subscribers, and the 10 year anniversary where they were already gonna do a bunch of events anyways so its not like its anything special there.
And even then there are things in Summerset that could have been better written, like the PoV of those opposed to the new immigration decree or that one quest at the zoo where the villain is a cartoonishly evil racist. There could have been more nuance but the script lacked it in places.

They deleated the wole world of her memories except the mirromore incursions because they keep mentioning mirromore even after the story. Zeny main story writing: 1) You need to recover a super powerful item that will be misteriously ignored later 2) One of the characters will be revealed to be something different compared to how it appeared and was presented 3) Someone will pretend to die only to get misteriously resurrected later. 4) A party and a misterious amnesia that will reset the world... I'm looking at you Verandis why the hell are you not helping me if i'm your best friend and you literally became a god with the power to resurrect cities!
I commented on ESO forum (dei detected) on a post about companions and got a flag for community harassment lol lol. I have deleted ESO off of my PC and off of Xbox cancel all ESO plus subscriptions. Being a day one player that drops Megabucks on this game on 2 platforms, they may not miss me at first but they will eventually lol. Plus I know a lot of people that the companion thing was the final straw. So be it hasta la vista baby.
And sadly there are some bad actors who are making criticism of Tanlorin seem shallower than it really is. I personally don't really care if she's non-binary, though I don't really get why it matters. I think the character design is just messy and incongruent with the art style of the Elder Scrolls universe. Sad to see them trying to cover up DEI involvement this hard as if they already know its a problem.

i've been playing elder scrolls since morrowind, which pretty much shows my age. i adore the lore and world of elder scrolls. been playing eso for about two years. if what i hear is true, regarding this new companion, i'm going to have a very real problem. and i'm not alone, most people don't want this kind of obnoxious pedagogy/didactism in their entertainment; it's exhausting. now, based on what i just said, virtue signaling, progressivist morons will characterize me as a bigot or intolerant. i'm a gay dude. and i am saying, gender bending doesn't belong in the lore. it's the latest outrage-de-jour thing, that pop-culture has sank its teeth into, and i am hoping and praying that all of this is some insipid phase that society is going through, because if it isn't -- we're well and truly screwed as a society.
This is very well said. I think its odd that ZOS is so scared of messing up the timeline of later games that they'll literally retcon Ithelia in the same DLC they introduce her in, but also bring in incongruent things to the lore like Tanlorin, a non-binary Altmer with purple eyes and purple hair, even though none of these things have been seen in any of the later games in the timeline. Ultimately I just want well written characters and for the writers to maintain the setting and lore and stick to the world that has already existed for decades.

I play since day 1 with some pauses for wow. I actually play elder scrolls since Morrowind... And I love all the old content from ESO, the Wardenfel chapter was really good.

That's Bethesda/Zenimax writing for you. It's the reason why I don't look deep into Elder Scrolls lore anymore as I would just get confused and ask myself, "Why the hell would they do that?"
Its sad because I think overall ESO has some of the most interesting lore additions in the entire series. The immersion of the story presentation is nonexistent so I never paid much attention to all the details in the writing, choosing instead to focus on the more potent plot points and world building. This just ain't it though.
Yeah I misspoke. Its more that if I craft something, then need to decon it for any reason, I just have extra mats thrown into my inventories. On top of that, I'm unable to store more than 200 of a material in a single slot so it becomes extremely wasteful really quickly. With recent updates for example, I've had to retool every build I have except my Arc, which ends up being 18 characters, some of them with multiple builds. Its just tedious.
ESO's quality has been decreasing for a while now, Nixxiom a wow content creator used to love ESO and made lots of videos about it but now he has stopped playing ESO because of the lack of quality.

I don't really think this is anything to do with "DEI", Its just as the title says, ZOS are pretty lazy and miss the mark a lot. I can't really point at anything in this game that can be related to DEI, Ithellia is just a horrible design ingame. Possibly I just haven't seen these DEI aspects, I don't exactly look for them. If we're talking lore too, I just wish Ithellia didn't exist. The major princes should stay as such, hyping up this secret prince with an admittedly cool power and purpose in theory, but got pretty sloppy in ZOS style. I don't tend to enjoy prince storylines in ESO specifically, they just don't have a brilliant track record. If this was Elder Scrolls 6 for example, and Ithellia was introduced here, I'd expect a much more enjoyable experience. Maybe I'm looking at Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim with rose tinted glasses, but I have memorable situations about every prince in these games, good or bad, I remember them. I couldn't tell you much about the Deadlands' story. On the forums topic, warnings, even bans for talking about these kinds of topics... Yes, of course that is very sketchy, and its a horrible idea to silence comments like these. Even if DEI involvement is here, I haven't seen much that ruins the game for myself personally, I just laughed at Ithellia's face and moved on. I didn't exactly think they were trying to 'reduce her femininity' or anything, I think its just ZOS ass at modelling. If things DEI related DOES begin getting pushed out much more into the gameplay and forced into my face, I'll absolutely revoke my statement.

Its a term now being used to describe particular consulting firms in the games industry who are paid to "save" games from not being inclusive enough by forcing them to include modern gender theory, counter-culture character designs (as in making them defy what they believe are unrealistic beauty standards) and removing reference to anything they deem "offensive".
If Bethesda continues the way it is, ES6 will be a disaster. The schadenfreude demon in me is really wanting that to be the case, but man it would be nice if it weren't.

I love Elder scrolls lore and i love playing ESO and as far as i´m concerned this game is not canon. There is way to much BS and most of it doesn´t have to do with it being an mmo. I wouldn´t even consider the landscape canon and genuinly hope future single player titles aren´t trying to continue anyting ESO has established, basically ignore it completly. That being said the "activist" mentality is probably prospering inside Bethesda studios too so my hopes are low. As someone who usually enjoys dialog in games i find myself skipping through a lot of the newer stuff because it feels like there is nothing behind it. It´s just something someone wrote to get paid for it, not trying for it to be good in any way, then the "messaging" and rediculous ratio of female leaders.... i don´t really want to experience that stuff tbh.
Well the more they add strange things that are incongruent with the rest of the series like Tanlorin, and the more they throw in these weak stories that retcon themselves and undo all your work before they end, the less I want to consider this game canon. That said, I still think it has some of the most interesting lore additions, like the Khajiit furstocks being fleshed out in Elsweyr, the new strain of vampirism developed by mortals in Greymoor, the literal personification of star constellations wreaking havoc on Nirn, and the time-traveler in Blackreach, like... there's so many cool concepts I'd love to see explored more in other games, but they all fit well into this fantasy setting. Real-life first world problems being forced into it just feel off.
Honestly, I love the idea of adding new Princes to the lore. And Bethesda already has the mcguffin already in lore, it's in the name, an elder scroll. I've seen a lot of folks complaining about the whole addition of a new prince. But those appear to be people who don't know the lore to begin with. I mean, just look up into sky. Each and every one of those stars is actually a hole to a whole new plane of existence, in the lore. No, my problem is with the execution of the lore. It feels like it was written by a 10 year old. Being a solo player, I've had a problem with ESO as a whole because of their writing. But now it just seems that it's getting worse and worse with each update and expansion. I mean, hell, look at how many incursions to Nirn have in a single era? Why does no one remember or books written about the planemeld. Wouldn't that alone be something on par with the Oblivion gates? Or as memorable as the Akivari coming to Tamrial? As stated in the video here, it feels like the writers have never played any of the previous games or read any of the novels.
I mean, the Soulburst marked the beginning of a Dragonbreak, but idk about anything beyond that. I believe there's mention of Molag Bal's failed invasion in games later in the timeline but I could be mistaken. Ultimately, you point out the main issue: its not the lore itself, so much as the way its handled and presented. The writing has gotten so lazy.
Technically, a Dragonbreak doesn't rewrite history. Oblivion was a Dragonbreak. Basically, all the games are Dragonbreaks due to the players actions. But Bethesda, in all previous games, wrote them to indicate that the mcguffin, elder scrolls, created a brand new realm of Nirn just for that player character, which inturn is the Dragonbreak. So with ZOS introducing a new prince, it's completely plausible. And with the holes in the sky, aka the stars, it's even probable. But here's where the crux of the problem comes in. Bethesda may have had a lot of say in ESO, which is good, but they've dropped the ball by letting folks who don't know the lore, write it. They honestly should have kept the writing in house and let ZOS just do the animation.
On that, I totally agree. Skyrim takes place in the 4th era, so if ESO took place in the 5th or 6th eras, it could probably be easier to implement. Or better yet, Tamrial is just one continent amongst at least 3 other named continents. Place ESO on another continent, like Akivir.

No matter what, if tehre was another prince, we would have known about it from the other games. Its terrible writing and lore destroying.
I personally think that they should remove every single damage. Mitigation source outside of major and minor buffs from the game. And to cap health at 30000 H. P From there they can adjust damage and even out the playing field. But right now it's just ridiculous

Yeah man, I really hope they don't continue like this cause I really don't want us all to get super turned off of this game and have it die. No other MMO has ever managed to capture me with its combat like ESO has. I main stamblade in PvE, and have lately been playing Arc instead because why do 111 APM for 105k DPS on a single target when I can 57 APM for the same damage on that target and everything within line of sight of it? That said, my sorc tank is in an amazing spot rn, and I be cooking up something for my light armor necro tank >:)

Yeah I've even heard people say ESO's RP community is the best and most in-depth they've been a part of. I don't know how true that is as I've not really experienced much RP in other games but I know its a core part of what makes ESO so lively.

ESO's quality has been decreasing for a while now, Nixxiom a wow content creator used to love ESO and made lots of videos about it but now he has stopped playing ESO because of the lack of quality.
And suddenly I'm not surprised.

@@frateranpvbail-shm6912 lol no, it started in morrowind when they tried to seperate the pvp playerbase with battlegrounds, then continued to bleed veteran players because of the failure of the pvp. The game was touted as a pvp game. Then the whiney they/thems took over and called people who like pvp toxic. We left and its been sufferings ever since.
I don't really think this is anything to do with "DEI", Its just as the title says, ZOS are pretty lazy and miss the mark a lot. I can't really point at anything in this game that can be related to DEI, Ithellia is just a horrible design ingame. Possibly I just haven't seen these DEI aspects, I don't exactly look for them.
If we're talking lore too, I just wish Ithellia didn't exist. The major princes should stay as such, hyping up this secret prince with an admittedly cool power and purpose in theory, but got pretty sloppy in ZOS style. I don't tend to enjoy prince storylines in ESO specifically, they just don't have a brilliant track record. If this was Elder Scrolls 6 for example, and Ithellia was introduced here, I'd expect a much more enjoyable experience. Maybe I'm looking at Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim with rose tinted glasses, but I have memorable situations about every prince in these games, good or bad, I remember them. I couldn't tell you much about the Deadlands' story.
On the forums topic, warnings, even bans for talking about these kinds of topics... Yes, of course that is very sketchy, and its a horrible idea to silence comments like these. Even if DEI involvement is here, I haven't seen much that ruins the game for myself personally, I just laughed at Ithellia's face and moved on. I didn't exactly think they were trying to 'reduce her femininity' or anything, I think its just ZOS ass at modelling. If things DEI related DOES begin getting pushed out much more into the gameplay and forced into my face, I'll absolutely revoke my statement.
Well considering the statue and the key art, something changed in her design prior to the launch of Gold Road. On top of that, uh... Tanlorin exists.
@@BlackBlazeGaming Haven't interacted with Tanlorin. Did say anything in the game I have seen, I've not come across anything DEI. Reading on her, you might be right. As for the statue, I don't see why they'd make a character ugly ingame after dropping that. Its why I think its a ZOS mess up.

Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Its a term now being used to describe particular consulting firms in the games industry who are paid to "save" games from not being inclusive enough by forcing them to include modern gender theory, counter-culture character designs (as in making them defy what they believe are unrealistic beauty standards) and removing reference to anything they deem "offensive".

You make a great point. I hadn't thought of that before but you're right. And frankly, a lot of the chapters have been a ZOS twist on something similar from other games in the series.
I love Elder scrolls lore and i love playing ESO and as far as i´m concerned this game is not canon. There is way to much BS and most of it doesn´t have to do with it being an mmo. I wouldn´t even consider the landscape canon and genuinly hope future single player titles aren´t trying to continue anyting ESO has established, basically ignore it completly. That being said the "activist" mentality is probably prospering inside Bethesda studios too so my hopes are low. As someone who usually enjoys dialog in games i find myself skipping through a lot of the newer stuff because it feels like there is nothing behind it. It´s just something someone wrote to get paid for it, not trying for it to be good in any way, then the "messaging" and rediculous ratio of female leaders.... i don´t really want to experience that stuff tbh.

Well the more they add strange things that are incongruent with the rest of the series like Tanlorin, and the more they throw in these weak stories that retcon themselves and undo all your work before they end, the less I want to consider this game canon. That said, I still think it has some of the most interesting lore additions, like the Khajiit furstocks being fleshed out in Elsweyr, the new strain of vampirism developed by mortals in Greymoor, the literal personification of star constellations wreaking havoc on Nirn, and the time-traveler in Blackreach, like... there's so many cool concepts I'd love to see explored more in other games, but they all fit well into this fantasy setting. Real-life first world problems being forced into it just feel off.
Honestly, I love the idea of adding new Princes to the lore. And Bethesda already has the mcguffin already in lore, it's in the name, an elder scroll. I've seen a lot of folks complaining about the whole addition of a new prince. But those appear to be people who don't know the lore to begin with. I mean, just look up into sky. Each and every one of those stars is actually a hole to a whole new plane of existence, in the lore.
No, my problem is with the execution of the lore. It feels like it was written by a 10 year old. Being a solo player, I've had a problem with ESO as a whole because of their writing. But now it just seems that it's getting worse and worse with each update and expansion. I mean, hell, look at how many incursions to Nirn have in a single era? Why does no one remember or books written about the planemeld. Wouldn't that alone be something on par with the Oblivion gates? Or as memorable as the Akivari coming to Tamrial? As stated in the video here, it feels like the writers have never played any of the previous games or read any of the novels.
I mean, the Soulburst marked the beginning of a Dragonbreak, but idk about anything beyond that. I believe there's mention of Molag Bal's failed invasion in games later in the timeline but I could be mistaken. Ultimately, you point out the main issue: its not the lore itself, so much as the way its handled and presented. The writing has gotten so lazy.
Technically, a Dragonbreak doesn't rewrite history. Oblivion was a Dragonbreak. Basically, all the games are Dragonbreaks due to the players actions. But Bethesda, in all previous games, wrote them to indicate that the mcguffin, elder scrolls, created a brand new realm of Nirn just for that player character, which inturn is the Dragonbreak.
So with ZOS introducing a new prince, it's completely plausible. And with the holes in the sky, aka the stars, it's even probable. But here's where the crux of the problem comes in. Bethesda may have had a lot of say in ESO, which is good, but they've dropped the ball by letting folks who don't know the lore, write it. They honestly should have kept the writing in house and let ZOS just do the animation.
I think they shouldn't have set this game at the earliest point in the timeline. Just seems like a mistake for a live service game.
On that, I totally agree. Skyrim takes place in the 4th era, so if ESO took place in the 5th or 6th eras, it could probably be easier to implement.
Or better yet, Tamrial is just one continent amongst at least 3 other named continents. Place ESO on another continent, like Akivir.

No matter what, if tehre was another prince, we would have known about it from the other games. Its terrible writing and lore destroying.

I personally think that they should remove every single damage. Mitigation source outside of major and minor buffs from the game. And to cap health at 30000 H. P

my DK Vamp got 42k and i'm not going to switch out Scarlet for Vampire Cloak again just to get some form of damage mitigation because Zenimax think it's funny to nerf me into Oblivion. Tanking is already tedious enough as is.

Ever since Greymoor, Zenimax has been shoving their extended middle finger in my face by messing up stability with rushed DLCs, turning my 810 Champion Points into a joke and shoving soulless """diversity""" and """representation""" down my throat

Yeah man, I really hope they don't continue like this cause I really don't want us all to get super turned off of this game and have it die. No other MMO has ever managed to capture me with its combat like ESO has. I main stamblade in PvE, and have lately been playing Arc instead because why do 111 APM for 105k DPS on a single target when I can 57 APM for the same damage on that target and everything within line of sight of it? That said, my sorc tank is in an amazing spot rn, and I be cooking up something for my light armor necro tank >:)

Yeah I've even heard people say ESO's RP community is the best and most in-depth they've been a part of. I don't know how true that is as I've not really experienced much RP in other games but I know its a core part of what makes ESO so lively.
