The point you made at the end has bugged me for a long time, about how we have no idea why they make the changes they do, and how most veterans don't even bother discussing the balance anymore because our feedback has been proven to simply not matter. Wish they'd make an effort to communicate with players regarding what they actually want PVP balance to look like. They said years ago when they nerfed viper/tremor/widowmaker that they didn't want people stacking procs, but they've allowed procs to be dominant in one form or another for the past couple years. They stated in their combat goals a year back that they wanted fast paced gameplay where your decisions matter and determine the outcome of combat, but they haven't said a word about the tank meta that has gone on since hybridization. They did tests to target the functionality of ball groups/large groups and acknowledged that gameplay as problematic for both balance and server performance, but they've done nothing but buff them with zero nerfs for yeras at this point. Ultimately it just feels like there hasn't been any direction in mind for balance in a very long time, and they're changing things just for the sake of changing them in order to meet some sort of work quotas. Wishful thinking to believe anything is going to change at this point, but man what a shame.
2024 and zeni still don’t listen to the core players they continue to cater to the more casual players who don’t wanna spend hours and hours on the game. They think someone who’s played a weeks should be at the skill level of a player who’s played 10 years. It takes them a year to admit and nerf most things, like listen to the PTS, listen to community feedback and realise you have such a solid pve and PvP game and you’d retain more players if you just listened. 😫
It is absurd to release a new set, put it in the IA, which is a terrible farm and nerf it a few weeks later. This is the edge of dishonest here. It feels like they did this only to lure ppl to boost the Infinite Archive number of players. I am glad I have not farmed Pyrebrand and will be nowhere near the IA in the foreseeable future.

All the updates for ESO are just busy work at ZOS, with nothing substantial that makes meaningful changes. They "adjust values by 0.003%" and then revert it back in the following patch. I've been complaining on the forums about siege since 2016, and it’s always met with an alarming amount of hate. One thing I've been saying for actual years is that the unique status effects from siege alone could kill players. Because it's never just the siege-it's always the siege plus 25 other people attacking you. If you run through a meatbag with 25 people on you, the defile alone is enough to kill anyone. The 3x ticks of 7k damage are completely unnecessary. (the beginning was meant to be about class/skill balance, not the new broken shit they be adding)
siege should do the damage it does and is fine as is imo coldfire and fire ballistas is the only counter to ball groups when your alliance doesn't know how to counter them through breaking coordination and single target focus on healers
@@sk8legendz as i said in the video this is what a lot of people think but not how it actually works out. any decent ballgroup doesnt care about your siege. they have multiple healers, siegeshield, barriers on rotation etc and they do not care about some siege. that vs when the large groups use siege against a few people in a tower which at this point is the main use of siege, it is for players that do not want to engage with the combat system once so ever so they just throw up a siege weapon to cheese down a single person or a few people. that is sad and boring gameplay

If your team mates cant break their coordination you wont beat them outside of siege and numbera which anybody who plays pvp in cyrodiil knows is true Sad and boring gameplay is the 40k hp warden arcanist sorc ball group meta where the only counter is Join the meta or be a nightblade
@@Nessaiga Duelist Tower-humpers, who are so cowardly they run right to a tower/corner at any sight of more than 2 enemies/opponents, are much more of a detriment to actual PVP than the siegers who don't want to engage in a 10 minute leftclick-fest against a copy-pasted youtube build only to be stuck in combat for another 10 minutes after the fight in which most tower humpers just fucking run away because they have an ego issue with dying in a video-game. EGO fights are what fucks actual pvp up. Duel in wayrest, don't take a pop slot in a main camp.. Also, Ballgroups die from siege PLUS overwhelming them with players.. Do you actually pvp at all?
They should make Tarnished proc from Direct critical damage within melee range.. The biggest problem is being hit by multiple procs from 5 NBs spamming Crushing Shock 40 metres away.

@@Xologamer I know what crit chance is but that's not really relevant to my point I was making. All procs had the same functionality of only having % chances, but they got rid of that when they did cp 2.0. All procs had between 6% and 25% chance to proc and there was no big proc meta to where a proc was the top damaging effect on your combat metrics, which is why I bring it up. Letting people replace actual damage rotations with procs was a mistake and they prove it every patch cycle. Procs should never be number 1 source of damage taken ever in pvp

Quit playing 5ish years ago. Logged in 2022 just to walk around for awhile. Had 5.5k Hours almost all on a single mag nightblade. ZoS will NEVER change. Devs do the same thing every year and people keep expecting them to start trying to actually make it better. ESO is literally just a cash shop money pump for them. They do stupid balance changes ON PURPOSE. It incentivizes you to keep your sub going while you grind some shit they can just nerf later. It incentivizes people to buy crowns and spend them on grind shortcuts when people make new characters cause the old one gets nerfed. It incentivizes you to keep playing on a endless hamster wheel always chasing a carrot on a stick. Same problems your highlighting in your vid are the exact same problems game had 5years ago, and for years before that. After One Tamriel update they fundamentally changed how they looked at the game and how they would treat it. It became a money pump. Was in 5 different maxed out guilds and had my friends list constantly teetering on max. Every single one of those guilds was dead and only 1 dude on my friends list still played when I checked in 2022, most had been offline for over a year. Veteran players dip out, new players fill in and go through the entire process of figuring out the dev doesnt give a shit and then by the time they quit new people are taking their place.
OP, you hit the nail right on the head! This has been my exact observation and experience, as well: endless hamster wheel of grinding new sets and mats with all the cool items locked behind gamble boxes. ZOS has basically turned me off to all MMOs. I just play single player games now.

I think the reason they make sets too strong to start, is because often these sets are linked to new content, and they want people to pay for the new content and to play the new content. Even with players knowing there is a high chance the sets will be nerfed, players still will buy and farm, just in case the nerf won't come too fast. Tarnished will get further nerfs, no doubt, but it's an all class set, while the dk set is class specific. I'd say that might possibly the reason why Pyre got the hammer, they simply got the set wrong and are fixing it fast. I have no problem with siege damage, I enjoy siege as is, would not like to see that tempered with. Coldfire, yeah,, but normal siege is in a good spot for me, it creates real risk and challenge. I remember when Lotro changed the Ettenmoor's npcs to become wet towels. It destroyed the moors in a variety of ways, and I think the same would happen if you reduce siege damage.
The delay on tarnished is to allow people to be able to block it. They should have removed the sunder and give a visual on the player that's being targeted.
Great Video, I fully agree with your point's. I feel that there are two main issues with ZOS's balancing, one is that the developers genuinely don't understand how a set is going to interact with all the stats & buffs in the game, although they think they do so they release very over tuned sets. Second is that they consistently release the new "Best Sets" with every DLC to drive sales, and they then nerf it after every one has purchased. It is a continuous slap in the face to the player base, and they wonder why people quit and don't come back to the game. The decrease in the player base is directly a result of developers continuous blunders / shady business practices.
Only 3 minutes in and I'm already liking your approach and points. In the case of Pyrebrand and Update 43, this update appears to have been hugely rushed. Major bugs with all the new Marauders in IA, set tuning and design is kind of all over the place, and they're already pushing Update 44 to PTS only a month after the previous update. Something they aren't telling us about is going on behind the scenes. My theory (though purely conjecture) is that their staff is being moved around and resources are being allocated to the other MMO project ZOS has been working on but haven't announced yet. I'm guessing they're rushing out half-assed ESO updates so they can spend the rest of the year pushing this other game into a presentable state for an announcement either by end of year or beginning of next year.
Agree with everything you just said. There’s more issues in cyrodiil however, like high hp ,ganking and ballgroups. All of which shouldn’t be possible as it’s egregious and not fun to fight against for the majority of players

These changes are made with new pvp player retention in mind. Zos would prefer for veteran players to rage quit because noobs spend more rl money on games. To that end they'll continue to diminish the skill factor in pvp in favor of noob friendly playstyles.
Actually the nerf to tarnished is quite significant because now you won’t be able to stack the damage in the same instance with other proc sets tarnished was an exception to the rule that two sets could not proc at the same time. This set could bring the ole one-shot stam sorcery meta but not anymore.
My little hot take. ZOS put out pyre as it was so people would get into the “new” infinite archive update they dropped along with it. They have said at least 4 times that I can remember how important IA is to the developers. They got people in there now they(ZOS) are gonna nerf the set and “hopefully” people that got the experience in IA stay in there. It’s always a weird multi step game with ZOS. They knew fully well what they were doing dropping the set how they did. Games being catered to newer players and that’s cool and all but it’s killing the game for people that have been here for these 10 years while working in their favor bringing in more money from people that don’t know about the ZOS bs at the same time. So about tarnished, can it be roll dodged or blocked after the sound with the delay? My problem with the tarnished set is that it adds a good amount of damage on top of a burst combo and that by the time you hear the sound it’s already happened so there’s nothing you can do. If it’s more like Scavenging Demise which is easy to counter than it’s less of a problem imo.

Idk if it's ever possible to balance something before releasing it. Maybe ESO is completely different, but in games like Hearthstone or CSGO, WoW, Lost Ark, or Dota, there are always constant balance cycles. In GW2, PvP, armors do not apply. So everyone start on the same par. One game that does balance well is actually FF14, in PvP. This is because all healer classes get the same skills. All dps classes get the same skills, and all tank classes get the same skills. While everyone gets the same stats based on class and armor. So it is actually perfectly balanced.
to perfectly have something balanced when it releases? probably not gonna happen. to have something somewhere in the BALLPARK of not awful but not overpowered? that shouldnt be hard, especially bc ZOS has formulas and math behind these sets so they could simply follow the same numbers they already have as a guideline. releasing pyreband the way it was only to turn around and nerf it later is just lazy/doesnt make sense. if the playerbase can tell you hey this set is busted right from the rip then it shouldnt get released in the same state and this has happened for 10 years
@@Nessaiga What is overpowered or underpowered based on what scenario? PvP (battleground or Cyrodil) or PvE (solo or group content)? And what is the reference group? Min/Max PvE players or PvP players or casual PvE or PvP players? Balance sets around both PvP & PvE are near impossible. There is a reason why GW2 and FF14 got rid of concept of gears in PvP. It is made worse by those sets have special effects, and you have to remember one set can overperform in PvE but is completely crap in PvP, so does that make the set good or bad? Should you nerf it further or buff it? It is not as easy as people suggest, "oh on paper it looks strong. Therefore, it will be strong." How many sets that people thought looked strong were dead on release because how underpowered they performed?
@@cabbagedestroyer1693 we have a PTS where ppl test these sets for 5 weeks before they are fully released and things are supposed to be tweaked. ppl test PvE and PvP scenarios on the PTS and provide feedback to ZOS and ZOS quite often just doesnt act on any feedback and adjust things accordingly. pyreband does 15k+ dps in PvE and is top dps on DKs using it in PvP also. it does as much damage as multiple skills combined with just the dot from it, not including how much it is proccing burning. balance in ESO just because PvE/PvP are tied together doesnt mean its hard. sure theres some technical differences between the two but in the case of something like pyreband you would have to close your eyes and cover your ears to not realize this set is overperforming
Yeah this is why I stopped playing. I went a few patches grinding gear and outfitting all my characters. After two rounds of nurfing all my sets...I said screw it and stopped. To give you and idea. It was moon dancer and perfected false gods. So a long time ago.

As a 4 month 400 hour new player who started to main nb and fell in love with ganking like 6 to 8 weeks ago. I spent 30 hours farming tarnish and the change makes the set not work with my play style. I researched and it seemed safe from a nerf. Ruins my traited golded build and doesnt stop its main issue. I switched to nightblade because toggle abils were not working at all with my 300ms. Now cloak will become a laggy toggle too. I said 4v4v4 pvp is the most fun of any mmos pvp right now. I was slowly farming pyrebrand because my first main was dk. Glad i didnt go hard. These devs hate new players...
1.3 sure is whatever, but does it have an indicator now like scavenging demise? Where you know when to block it? I still consider It a good nerf if it does.
I have to say that I've had sorc chars ever since day 1, and they probably nerfed them 10 times in the first 2 or 3 years. It got so bad that at one point they put a massive cooldown on the one and only defensive spell we had. That was the day that I and many others just quit the game. A few months ago I came back into the game to give it another chance, spent most of that time just farming upgraded gear, and making new builds for my chars. Just got my sorc's as I want them and what happens, apparently they are nerfing sorcs again. Don't know if I will bother with the game if they overdo this again. Most disappointing.
I quit 5 years ago after fully golding out my first set and they nerfed it. Came back after 5 years and it's still the same as back then 😂. I'm not surprised
Zos is still a business. What drives business? Sales and profitability. They will create/add/edit new dlcs, overpowered class, sets, abilities, etc. to attract new customers and retain old customers. Customers both new and old will exploit these. We all do. Just what Zos wants. Once Zos achieve what they aim to do (sales and profitability) then they’ll “nerf” or in their terms “balance”things out and at the same time develop and create something new that will be overpowered for the next update. A continuous cycle 🔄. 😅
There’s no reason to nerf them this hard. Another part of business is keeping the player base happy, and nerfs are usually something that really make players annoyed. No one likes seeing something they use/play nerfed. Why not buff the millions of other sets so that they can contend with these new sets? It’s really just changing numbers, can’t be that hard right?

From a business perspective and numbers wise what costs more, what takes a lot more resources, and what changes would be more difficult to do without breaking the game? The debuffing of the few new sets/abilities or buffing the million other sets/abilities to keep up with the new sets/abilities? i mean ive said before that cloak couldve used a nerf but that was years ago and were just so past that point now so its strange that they would go this route with it now years later and the way they went about it was awful. it costs about 3k mag/2sec but when we had mist form as a toggle it was like 1k mag/1sec i believe so the cost of the skill is off completely imo and the only way it would be able to work as this toggle type ability would be if they cut the cost quite literally in half. i do think cloak is extremely strong but with detect pots being used by 99% of ppl in pvp and they increased the detect range by so much with them a while ago... the complaints i have with nightblade dont have to deal with cloak anymore. so this change is WAY LATE and WAY OFF MARK
Hey, you made some great points and your presentation was outstanding. But I can tell you are, basically at heart a pvper. Why do I bring this up? As I watch all the youtube videos concerning these sets, I have yet to see one pve monster make a complaint on players using them. (I'm sure someone will now generate a video doing so). The only ones I see complaining are the Cyradiil crew. I agree, they are overpowered for pvp. Nerf them, but for pvp. Leave them alone in pve. Let me enjoy wiping out tons of mudcrabs and scribs, after spending hours and days farming my cherished sets. Dang, I was here for plaguebreak, and oakensoul and now this. Oh well, part of the game, only thing we can do is complain, play the game or quit, which I haven't gotten to that extreme yet.
Also, siege should do a ton of damage, since you know, you can't move while using the weapon. Eseentially, whoever has the high ground with siege gets a bigger advantage. Therefore, it is defenders advantage. If siege weapon does less damage than skills, why in the world would you ever spend currency on it and to stay still to use it?
siege costs barely anything and does multiple times over the amount of damage that skills and ultimates do. why have a combat system when someone can hop on a siege weapon and do 5x your damage with 1 button? that makes 0 sense and makes for bad and boring gameplay. we have a combat system that people dont even interact with, that should be baffling to everyone
@@Nessaiga How long does it take for a siege weapon to fire? You are complaining about an attack from a stationary object that fires once every 8-10 seconds. People don't just mass siege without some sort of support in the back. Siege weapons are only set up for defending/attacking keeps or to hold a choke point. A group of players can easily rush the other side if too many people are using siege. Hence why you see so many scenarios where one side has too many siege weapons set up gets routed by the other side out in the open. The gameplay you want is literally just deathball on deathball pushing based whichever side has the bigger ball with better PvP gear. Where the only planning to win any battle to just to amass the players.

Nah your definitely gonna have time to counter with the new tarnished change. If I incap you and spectral bow I’m putting all my money in the table that either those 2 cooldowns get you but in cryodill it doesn’t not with tank health meta so tarnished helps with that extra upfront burst to down insanely tanky targets not to mention it procs sundered. If there is a delay you’ll now have time to heal before it procs because it’s basically my executable if my 2 executes don’t do the job. And if I use my back bar and swap front bar before my attack lands it will proc tarnished and ruin my whole burst for another 8 seconds so id have to disagree that you won’t be able to counter, and tarnished alone without a heavy damaging dot or skill involved with that burst it does nothing alone the only plus is sundered but alone tarnished procing doesn’t even scratch most players in cryo.
youre thinking about that change in terms of a 1v1 not in terms of a hundred ppl in pvp using it. tarnished 1v1 really isnt an issue even rn but when youre fighting multiple ppl and you run around a corner and their tarnished is still going off on you over and over... yea thats a problem

I enjoy the set for 1v1 for sure as a brawl blade main I don’t care to use it for ganking even though it is op for that, I just try to line my burst up with it, and it does its job. But I agree 100% in big groups it’s an issue and might even be more of a bigger issue now especially with the delay now.

@@Nessaiga To be honest, siege isn't always about raw damage. I'll use whatever I have available, and if we skip over cold fire and lancers (they're good), I'm a big proponent of debuffing. I don't do a lot of damage in PVP (not built/ invested in it that way), so during a siege or when a ball group comes running (out of the castle or in the courtyard), I like to use lighting ballistas (drain magicka), oil catapults (slowing), and scattershot catapults for the increased damage taken debuff. These all help my fellow faction mates, many of them far better equipped and skilled, to cause real damage to a ball group in kind. The latter two in particular are underappreciated IMO. Slowing a few members of the group to take them out of buff range is huge. Also why I throw rooting spears with my Templar a lot. Meatbags are best on static targets, so when countersieging and for the fight over the inner keep (i.e. the death chamber).
This is an issue but that's the fault of ZOS using live server for testing and not PTS. They get tons of pts feedback but I'm sure 90% is lost in the void, its only until live players deal with the crap that they see it's an actual problem, IMO. Siege should scale like proxy, it should do almost nothing to solo/small scale and should nuke zergs/raids. Sadly these types of videos and suggestions from experienced players never go anywhere.

Most changes they make are bad. I know this, you know this, everyone with any common sense knows this. I look at patch notes and think the same thing you do, almost always. And its most people, besides the players who play this game like a single player rpg. And thats the problem, we have been pushed aside for those players. The revolving door of casuals zos appeals to. Everything they do for vet players is either bad or extremely low effort. Or worse, something most people dont want like the "pvp" update. And another problem is they take so long to do anything. Guild wars 2 has had things for like 5 years that zos has finally decided to add. Basic, simple, easy to add, QOL changes. Even their new housing update has more features than esos, which is esos strongest point. And they actually put small updates out after a major update, while zenimax takes way too long to address or change things. So imo what we have is an out of touch dev team, chasing vet players and pvp players away, and taking way too long to make substantial changes. And the changes they do make are usually bad. And them putting out sets to only nerf them into the dirt within a few months, after everyone farms it, shows how much they dont care what we think. At all. Which is why i havent been playing much either. Its sad that my favorite game has been chasing me away for years. Id love to still be pvping every day, but its just lame and has only gotten worse. Ill play a bit next update, but until something big changes, and im aware it never will, ill be playing gw2 or wow or something else.

Something i think that should be added to game is a way to LITERALLY buff solo players. As a 1vx/smallscale player there should be some kind of defensive/offensive/heal buff for us. I dont care if its "unrealistic" i've never been a zergling us good players should have some "underdog/low pop" for STATS and not just AP!!!!!
The point you made at the end has bugged me for a long time, about how we have no idea why they make the changes they do, and how most veterans don't even bother discussing the balance anymore because our feedback has been proven to simply not matter. Wish they'd make an effort to communicate with players regarding what they actually want PVP balance to look like. They said years ago when they nerfed viper/tremor/widowmaker that they didn't want people stacking procs, but they've allowed procs to be dominant in one form or another for the past couple years. They stated in their combat goals a year back that they wanted fast paced gameplay where your decisions matter and determine the outcome of combat, but they haven't said a word about the tank meta that has gone on since hybridization. They did tests to target the functionality of ball groups/large groups and acknowledged that gameplay as problematic for both balance and server performance, but they've done nothing but buff them with zero nerfs for yeras at this point. Ultimately it just feels like there hasn't been any direction in mind for balance in a very long time, and they're changing things just for the sake of changing them in order to meet some sort of work quotas. Wishful thinking to believe anything is going to change at this point, but man what a shame.

They think someone who’s played a weeks should be at the skill level of a player who’s played 10 years. It takes them a year to admit and nerf most things, like listen to the PTS, listen to community feedback and realise you have such a solid pve and PvP game and you’d retain more players if you just listened. 😫

It is absurd to release a new set, put it in the IA, which is a terrible farm and nerf it a few weeks later. This is the edge of dishonest here. It feels like they did this only to lure ppl to boost the Infinite Archive number of players. I am glad I have not farmed Pyrebrand and will be nowhere near the IA in the foreseeable future.

All the updates for ESO are just busy work at ZOS, with nothing substantial that makes meaningful changes. They "adjust values by 0.003%" and then revert it back in the following patch. I've been complaining on the forums about siege since 2016, and it’s always met with an alarming amount of hate. One thing I've been saying for actual years is that the unique status effects from siege alone could kill players. Because it's never just the siege-it's always the siege plus 25 other people attacking you. If you run through a meatbag with 25 people on you, the defile alone is enough to kill anyone. The 3x ticks of 7k damage are completely unnecessary.

coldfire and fire ballistas is the only counter to ball groups when your alliance doesn't know how to counter them through breaking coordination and single target focus on healers
@@sk8legendz as i said in the video this is what a lot of people think but not how it actually works out. any decent ballgroup doesnt care about your siege. they have multiple healers, siegeshield, barriers on rotation etc and they do not care about some siege. that vs when the large groups use siege against a few people in a tower which at this point is the main use of siege, it is for players that do not want to engage with the combat system once so ever so they just throw up a siege weapon to cheese down a single person or a few people. that is sad and boring gameplay

If your team mates cant break their coordination you wont beat them outside of siege and numbera which anybody who plays pvp in cyrodiil knows is true

@@Xologamer I know what crit chance is but that's not really relevant to my point I was making. All procs had the same functionality of only having % chances, but they got rid of that when they did cp 2.0. All procs had between 6% and 25% chance to proc and there was no big proc meta to where a proc was the top damaging effect on your combat metrics, which is why I bring it up. Letting people replace actual damage rotations with procs was a mistake and they prove it every patch cycle. Procs should never be number 1 source of damage taken ever in pvp

Quit playing 5ish years ago. Logged in 2022 just to walk around for awhile. Had 5.5k Hours almost all on a single mag nightblade. ZoS will NEVER change. Devs do the same thing every year and people keep expecting them to start trying to actually make it better. ESO is literally just a cash shop money pump for them. They do stupid balance changes ON PURPOSE. It incentivizes you to keep your sub going while you grind some shit they can just nerf later. It incentivizes people to buy crowns and spend them on grind shortcuts when people make new characters cause the old one gets nerfed. It incentivizes you to keep playing on a endless hamster wheel always chasing a carrot on a stick. Same problems your highlighting in your vid are the exact same problems game had 5years ago, and for years before that. After One Tamriel update they fundamentally changed how they looked at the game and how they would treat it. It became a money pump.
Was in 5 different maxed out guilds and had my friends list constantly teetering on max. Every single one of those guilds was dead and only 1 dude on my friends list still played when I checked in 2022, most had been offline for over a year. Veteran players dip out, new players fill in and go through the entire process of figuring out the dev doesnt give a shit and then by the time they quit new people are taking their place.

OP, you hit the nail right on the head! This has been my exact observation and experience, as well: endless hamster wheel of grinding new sets and mats with all the cool items locked behind gamble boxes. ZOS has basically turned me off to all MMOs. I just play single player games now.

I think the reason they make sets too strong to start, is because often these sets are linked to new content, and they want people to pay for the new content and to play the new content. Even with players knowing there is a high chance the sets will be nerfed, players still will buy and farm, just in case the nerf won't come too fast.
Tarnished will get further nerfs, no doubt, but it's an all class set, while the dk set is class specific. I'd say that might possibly the reason why Pyre got the hammer, they simply got the set wrong and are fixing it fast.
I have no problem with siege damage, I enjoy siege as is, would not like to see that tempered with. Coldfire, yeah,, but normal siege is in a good spot for me, it creates real risk and challenge. I remember when Lotro changed the Ettenmoor's npcs to become wet towels. It destroyed the moors in a variety of ways, and I think the same would happen if you reduce siege damage.
The delay on tarnished is to allow people to be able to block it. They should have removed the sunder and give a visual on the player that's being targeted.
Great Video, I fully agree with your point's. I feel that there are two main issues with ZOS's balancing, one is that the developers genuinely don't understand how a set is going to interact with all the stats & buffs in the game, although they think they do so they release very over tuned sets. Second is that they consistently release the new "Best Sets" with every DLC to drive sales, and they then nerf it after every one has purchased. It is a continuous slap in the face to the player base, and they wonder why people quit and don't come back to the game. The decrease in the player base is directly a result of developers continuous blunders / shady business practices.
Tarnish nerf does nothing now people can proc it with other procs because it has a known timer , if anything it may be even stronger
Only 3 minutes in and I'm already liking your approach and points. In the case of Pyrebrand and Update 43, this update appears to have been hugely rushed. Major bugs with all the new Marauders in IA, set tuning and design is kind of all over the place, and they're already pushing Update 44 to PTS only a month after the previous update. Something they aren't telling us about is going on behind the scenes. My theory (though purely conjecture) is that their staff is being moved around and resources are being allocated to the other MMO project ZOS has been working on but haven't announced yet. I'm guessing they're rushing out half-assed ESO updates so they can spend the rest of the year pushing this other game into a presentable state for an announcement either by end of year or beginning of next year.

These changes are made with new pvp player retention in mind. Zos would prefer for veteran players to rage quit because noobs spend more rl money on games. To that end they'll continue to diminish the skill factor in pvp in favor of noob friendly playstyles.
Actually the nerf to tarnished is quite significant because now you won’t be able to stack the damage in the same instance with other proc sets tarnished was an exception to the rule that two sets could not proc at the same time. This set could bring the ole one-shot stam sorcery meta but not anymore.

ZOS put out pyre as it was so people would get into the “new” infinite archive update they dropped along with it. They have said at least 4 times that I can remember how important IA is to the developers.
They got people in there now they(ZOS) are gonna nerf the set and “hopefully” people that got the experience in IA stay in there.

My problem with the tarnished set is that it adds a good amount of damage on top of a burst combo and that by the time you hear the sound it’s already happened so there’s nothing you can do. If it’s more like Scavenging Demise which is easy to counter than it’s less of a problem imo.

Idk if it's ever possible to balance something before releasing it. Maybe ESO is completely different, but in games like Hearthstone or CSGO, WoW, Lost Ark, or Dota, there are always constant balance cycles. In GW2, PvP, armors do not apply. So everyone start on the same par.
One game that does balance well is actually FF14, in PvP. This is because all healer classes get the same skills. All dps classes get the same skills, and all tank classes get the same skills. While everyone gets the same stats based on class and armor. So it is actually perfectly balanced.
to perfectly have something balanced when it releases? probably not gonna happen. to have something somewhere in the BALLPARK of not awful but not overpowered? that shouldnt be hard, especially bc ZOS has formulas and math behind these sets so they could simply follow the same numbers they already have as a guideline. releasing pyreband the way it was only to turn around and nerf it later is just lazy/doesnt make sense. if the playerbase can tell you hey this set is busted right from the rip then it shouldnt get released in the same state and this has happened for 10 years

Balance sets around both PvP & PvE are near impossible. There is a reason why GW2 and FF14 got rid of concept of gears in PvP. It is made worse by those sets have special effects, and you have to remember one set can overperform in PvE but is completely crap in PvP, so does that make the set good or bad? Should you nerf it further or buff it?
It is not as easy as people suggest, "oh on paper it looks strong. Therefore, it will be strong."
How many sets that people thought looked strong were dead on release because how underpowered they performed?
@@cabbagedestroyer1693 we have a PTS where ppl test these sets for 5 weeks before they are fully released and things are supposed to be tweaked. ppl test PvE and PvP scenarios on the PTS and provide feedback to ZOS and ZOS quite often just doesnt act on any feedback and adjust things accordingly. pyreband does 15k+ dps in PvE and is top dps on DKs using it in PvP also. it does as much damage as multiple skills combined with just the dot from it, not including how much it is proccing burning.
balance in ESO just because PvE/PvP are tied together doesnt mean its hard. sure theres some technical differences between the two but in the case of something like pyreband you would have to close your eyes and cover your ears to not realize this set is overperforming

As a 4 month 400 hour new player who started to main nb and fell in love with ganking like 6 to 8 weeks ago.
I spent 30 hours farming tarnish and the change makes the set not work with my play style. I researched and it seemed safe from a nerf. Ruins my traited golded build and doesnt stop its main issue.
I switched to nightblade because toggle abils were not working at all with my 300ms. Now cloak will become a laggy toggle too.
I said 4v4v4 pvp is the most fun of any mmos pvp right now.
I was slowly farming pyrebrand because my first main was dk. Glad i didnt go hard.

1.3 sure is whatever, but does it have an indicator now like scavenging demise? Where you know when to block it? I still consider It a good nerf if it does.
I have to say that I've had sorc chars ever since day 1, and they probably nerfed them 10 times in the first 2 or 3 years. It got so bad that at one point they put a massive cooldown on the one and only defensive spell we had. That was the day that I and many others just quit the game. A few months ago I came back into the game to give it another chance, spent most of that time just farming upgraded gear, and making new builds for my chars. Just got my sorc's as I want them and what happens, apparently they are nerfing sorcs again. Don't know if I will bother with the game if they overdo this again. Most disappointing.
There was a time No Proc Cyrodiil was a place, and it was an era when the actual skilled players SHONE ❤ Or was that a fever dream???
I quit 5 years ago after fully golding out my first set and they nerfed it. Came back after 5 years and it's still the same as back then 😂. I'm not surprised

Zos is still a business. What drives business? Sales and profitability. They will create/add/edit new dlcs, overpowered class, sets, abilities, etc. to attract new customers and retain old customers. Customers both new and old will exploit these. We all do. Just what Zos wants. Once Zos achieve what they aim to do (sales and profitability) then they’ll “nerf” or in their terms “balance”things out and at the same time develop and create something new that will be overpowered for the next update. A continuous cycle 🔄. 😅
There’s no reason to nerf them this hard. Another part of business is keeping the player base happy, and nerfs are usually something that really make players annoyed. No one likes seeing something they use/play nerfed. Why not buff the millions of other sets so that they can contend with these new sets? It’s really just changing numbers, can’t be that hard right?

I agree with you. There is no need to gut things this drastic. They could have done it gradually. Yes, no one wants to see something they invest so much time and effort become unusable. Yes, they should listen to customer base. It’s up to Zos to pick and choose and prioritize customer requests accordingly to what they think is best for their customers and for the company, Zos. If it’s really changing numbers, then let’s think of it this way. From a business perspective and numbers wise what costs more, what takes a lot more resources, and what changes would be more difficult to do without breaking the game? The debuffing of the few new sets/abilities or buffing the million other sets/abilities to keep up with the new sets/abilities? Sometimes the business decisions and changes will not make everyone happy. 😬

They do not give a rats ass if anyone is happy so long as money keeps coming in. I quit like 5 years ago and when I check back in on this game its literally the same problem we were all biching about for years even back then. There is absolutely NO world in which zos gives even a 1% miniscule singular atom fuck about their players. The game is a money pump for a group of shareholders, that is the ONLY purpose it serves. Keep the wheel turning and keep a carrot on a stick, money rolls in so long as people keep playing and they do so they will never change this strategy. The more time that goes by, year by year, the chance of them ever changing diminishes. Only way they would do that is if people in mass quit playing and the game became unprofitable, then they might have changed their ways. Its been so many years now though they would probably just shut it down. ESO will never live up to its potential and the best years where the first few.

Their best people are working on their new MMO. Why wouldn't they be? So we get ZOS Jr. from here on out. I quit (again) when 43 dropped. 44 looks even worse. So frustrating.

i mean ive said before that cloak couldve used a nerf but that was years ago and were just so past that point now so its strange that they would go this route with it now years later and the way they went about it was awful. it costs about 3k mag/2sec but when we had mist form as a toggle it was like 1k mag/1sec i believe so the cost of the skill is off completely imo and the only way it would be able to work as this toggle type ability would be if they cut the cost quite literally in half. i do think cloak is extremely strong but with detect pots being used by 99% of ppl in pvp and they increased the detect range by so much with them a while ago... the complaints i have with nightblade dont have to deal with cloak anymore. so this change is WAY LATE and WAY OFF MARK
Hey, you made some great points and your presentation was outstanding. But I can tell you are, basically at heart a pvper. Why do I bring this up? As I watch all the youtube videos concerning these sets, I have yet to see one pve monster make a complaint on players using them. (I'm sure someone will now generate a video doing so). The only ones I see complaining are the Cyradiil crew. I agree, they are overpowered for pvp. Nerf them, but for pvp. Leave them alone in pve. Let me enjoy wiping out tons of mudcrabs and scribs, after spending hours and days farming my cherished sets. Dang, I was here for plaguebreak, and oakensoul and now this. Oh well, part of the game, only thing we can do is complain, play the game or quit, which I haven't gotten to that extreme yet.
Also, siege should do a ton of damage, since you know, you can't move while using the weapon. Eseentially, whoever has the high ground with siege gets a bigger advantage. Therefore, it is defenders advantage. If siege weapon does less damage than skills, why in the world would you ever spend currency on it and to stay still to use it?
siege costs barely anything and does multiple times over the amount of damage that skills and ultimates do. why have a combat system when someone can hop on a siege weapon and do 5x your damage with 1 button? that makes 0 sense and makes for bad and boring gameplay. we have a combat system that people dont even interact with, that should be baffling to everyone
@@Nessaiga How long does it take for a siege weapon to fire? You are complaining about an attack from a stationary object that fires once every 8-10 seconds.
People don't just mass siege without some sort of support in the back.
Siege weapons are only set up for defending/attacking keeps or to hold a choke point. A group of players can easily rush the other side if too many people are using siege. Hence why you see so many scenarios where one side has too many siege weapons set up gets routed by the other side out in the open.
The gameplay you want is literally just deathball on deathball pushing based whichever side has the bigger ball with better PvP gear. Where the only planning to win any battle to just to amass the players.
@@cabbagedestroyer1693 youre talking about zerg v zerg fights where nobody cares about siege. a very large use of siege is a large group being unable to kill a small group and just sieging them down on top of outnumbering them. so the whole "intended" use of siege being used against larger groups is useless now and people just use siege to cheese down single/small groups of players

Yes, let me indefinitely left-click/skill spam on one or two dudes who made it their life's mission to meta this game/their sets, thats SUCH engaging and fun gameplay that is not boring...... Nah your definitely gonna have time to counter with the new tarnished change. If I incap you and spectral bow I’m putting all my money in the table that either those 2 cooldowns get you but in cryodill it doesn’t not with tank health meta so tarnished helps with that extra upfront burst to down insanely tanky targets not to mention it procs sundered. If there is a delay you’ll now have time to heal before it procs because it’s basically my executable if my 2 executes don’t do the job. And if I use my back bar and swap front bar before my attack lands it will proc tarnished and ruin my whole burst for another 8 seconds so id have to disagree that you won’t be able to counter, and tarnished alone without a heavy damaging dot or skill involved with that burst it does nothing alone the only plus is sundered but alone tarnished procing doesn’t even scratch most players in cryo.
youre thinking about that change in terms of a 1v1 not in terms of a hundred ppl in pvp using it. tarnished 1v1 really isnt an issue even rn but when youre fighting multiple ppl and you run around a corner and their tarnished is still going off on you over and over... yea thats a problem

I enjoy the set for 1v1 for sure as a brawl blade main I don’t care to use it for ganking even though it is op for that, I just try to line my burst up with it, and it does its job. But I agree 100% in big groups it’s an issue and might even be more of a bigger issue now especially with the delay now.

any good ballgroup isnt going to die to siege. also theres no "tactics" in sitting on a siege weapon hitting left click, youre just blasting ppl with free dmg
@@Nessaiga To be honest, siege isn't always about raw damage. I'll use whatever I have available, and if we skip over cold fire and lancers (they're good), I'm a big proponent of debuffing. I don't do a lot of damage in PVP (not built/ invested in it that way), so during a siege or when a ball group comes running (out of the castle or in the courtyard), I like to use lighting ballistas (drain magicka), oil catapults (slowing), and scattershot catapults for the increased damage taken debuff.
These all help my fellow faction mates, many of them far better equipped and skilled, to cause real damage to a ball group in kind. The latter two in particular are underappreciated IMO. Slowing a few members of the group to take them out of buff range is huge. Also why I throw rooting spears with my Templar a lot. Meatbags are best on static targets, so when countersieging and for the fight over the inner keep (i.e. the death chamber).
This is an issue but that's the fault of ZOS using live server for testing and not PTS. They get tons of pts feedback but I'm sure 90% is lost in the void, its only until live players deal with the crap that they see it's an actual problem, IMO. This isn't gonna change, the combat team is just incompetent
They have no idea what to do as NONE of the devs PLAYS or CARES about the game!

they nerfed pyrebrand coz it is from free content. They not nerf tarnished to fast coz it is from dlc that you need to pay for. Tarnished gonna be nerf when new dlc dungeon pack go live. All they care is money not players.
Siege should scale like proxy, it should do almost nothing to solo/small scale and should nuke zergs/raids. Sadly these types of videos and suggestions from experienced players never go anywhere.

Most changes they make are bad. I know this, you know this, everyone with any common sense knows this. I look at patch notes and think the same thing you do, almost always. And its most people, besides the players who play this game like a single player rpg. And thats the problem, we have been pushed aside for those players. The revolving door of casuals zos appeals to. Everything they do for vet players is either bad or extremely low effort. Or worse, something most people dont want like the "pvp" update.
And another problem is they take so long to do anything. Guild wars 2 has had things for like 5 years that zos has finally decided to add. Basic, simple, easy to add, QOL changes. Even their new housing update has more features than esos, which is esos strongest point. And they actually put small updates out after a major update, while zenimax takes way too long to address or change things. So imo what we have is an out of touch dev team, chasing vet players and pvp players away, and taking way too long to make substantial changes. And the changes they do make are usually bad. And them putting out sets to only nerf them into the dirt within a few months, after everyone farms it, shows how much they dont care what we think. At all.
Which is why i havent been playing much either. Its sad that my favorite game has been chasing me away for years. Id love to still be pvping every day, but its just lame and has only gotten worse. Ill play a bit next update, but until something big changes, and im aware it never will, ill be playing gw2 or wow or something else.

i´m just tired of there behaviar but there is olso a sence for zos. Its like everytime ignore warnings on pts from pvp players especially from cyro players. But let release it on live server so people need to buy a dlc for compare. next time there will be olso a battlepass so you need to pay for it after the try to force cyro players now to just play battlegrounds. its just like with multibal sets since the 10 years i play just pvp and only cyro. The promotion of this game it was released was its a nice massive mmo pvp game but they just abandoned it after the first years and focused on pve. you was seen it olso of many years on bad cyro servers olso battleground servers with massive performence problems. yep for fer time after new servers was relativly ok but again performence problems and no bug working like we will have it forever like the battle bug. Something i think that should be added to game is a way to LITERALLY buff solo players. As a 1vx/smallscale player there should be some kind of defensive/offensive/heal buff for us. I dont care if its "unrealistic" i've never been a zergling us good players should have some "underdog/low pop" for STATS and not just AP!!!!!
