after i run the autorun and click install it asks for admin rights for setup.exe to which I give the rights to and it just doesn't do anything it looks like its loading and then it just doesn't work
Same here. I've already installed the game before having to format my computer because of bootup issues with Windows 10, but the existing game that was already installed doesn't work anymore and the setup for installation won't run. I've tried deleting leftover files from the registry editor, but that doesn't work either.
The installer worked at one stage after a restart, but now it won't work at all. I've tried everything I can think of but I can't get it to install and even if I can install it on my computer, the game crashes back to desktop after the opening movies and the first loading screen.
The same happened to me and I had a hunch that it might be the resolution. I was in 4k. Just change to 1080p in windows display settings and run it! It worked for me! :)

If the installer doesnt launch, Change your resolution to 1080p in windows display settings. Most likely you might be running 4k! It worked for me!
Installed Verkon's patch and after a few settings tweaks the games works like a charm.
So after clicking on the "complete patch" link, I go to click the link that's in the forum that takes you right to where all the file should be and it says that the URL is no longer available, so does this mean without getting the patch from that URL it's not possible to play the game anymore? I don't know where else you could find the patch for the game

Running the game at 1080p60 with *corrected 16:9 FOV* , all thanks to PC Gaming Wiki, a site that's a blessing for us retro gamers.
No need to run the game stretched or in 'snipped' 4:3 mode.
how did u get the 16:9 fov? i did stretch to fit and the menu text is low resolution and in the game the speedometer and damage meter are too small and so is the pause menu

Small note - The download link in the first forum points to the wayback machine for some reason, which says it doesn't have the file. However, if you copy the link to the page it says it "doesn't have", it loads without issues and you can download the file no problem. The rest of the pages work perfectly.

@@alextura613If memory serves, the first link is to the web archive of a forum post, with a download link in the first post. Instead of clicking the link in the forum post, copy it and paste it into a new tab and you should be able to actually download the file.
Yeah I just followed the instructions to the T with copy and paste and the download is NOWHERE to be found. lol

thank you! it worked very well! this was the first racing game I got to play, my dad even got me a wheel and pedals to go with it!
Just a quick note to people who want to play this on win 10, with nGlide the controls aren't the way they were back then. By this i mean back then it was optimized for keyboard and extremely easy to pick up with a pad or wheel even for first timers. With nglide it emulates the car control more like how modern day titles are hard to control on keyboard

Don't click on the link/url. Instead, copy the text and paste it in a new window or tab then press enter. Worked for me.

The link to the patch requires a login, but doesn't allow creating a new account as far as I can tell. Any ideas on where I can get this patch elsewhere?
There is a comment made by "Badeend", check NGlides website and their complete list of compatible games and the patch is there!

The website the creator of the video showed was unavailable for use. Just scroll down the list until you find "Need For Speed 5: Porsche Unleashed" and in the right column there should be a text that says "To play you must extract all these files into game directory and run 'nfs5.reg'", just press "These" and follow the steps in the video from 1,08 and forwards! Hope it helps!

What does exactly the complete patch? Seems that its no different from the essential.
With your guide I can start the game, the menu loads correctly but as soon as I select a game mode it crashes on desktop. I have windows 11. 😞

I have no installshield wizard setup screen when I click install in the NFS PU setup window?? My OS is Win 10.
I'm having trouble installing the patch (as....it doesn't exist anymore), BUT the new patch NFS5 Essentials DOES EXIST but for some reason when I go to setup it doesn't recognize that the game is installed. Need help!
I was hoping this would help me, but when I click install....there is an hourglass for a second, then nothing happens. I have run it as administrator and still nothing.

This game crashes on the main loading screen after the opening FMVs. And that's just if I can get the installer to run, which I could at one stage, but now I can't. What should I do?
After some tinkering with my PC and getting Hot Pursuit 2 up and running again, I started to wonder if it has something to do with broken USB HID drivers. I already have several of them on my computer according to the device manager, but only one was interfering with running Hot Pursuit 2. I don't know if this could also be an issue as to why Porsche Unleashed isn't working on my PC, but I would like to know if it's possible.
It turns out it was issues with broken USB HID drivers. After going to Device Manager and disabling all of the HID compliant consumer control devices and HID compliant vendor defined devices, I was able to get a number of old software back up and running again, including this game. Sorry for all the concerns regarding the problems I had on my end. You can safely disregard them now.

how did you get it to work? i keep getting an error saying i got directx0 and i need to get directx7 even though i already have it this happens after i install the mod patch but when i launch the normal game nothing happens.

nice, I got the original DirectX 7 version working on a window using DXWND, gonna try nGlide but I remember DirectX versions of older games looking a bit better... wish there was an option to disable filtering in nGlide
I followed every step in the video, the game worked normally, but when clicking race it crashes and says : FILE_save - unable to open file fe_out.txt

My installer crashes as soon as I run it, any idea what the issue could be? I thought it was because I wasn't running as admin but it still failed. It got stuck as a background task and nothing more. I already got Carbon to work thanks to your tutorials, just wanted to try my luck and see if you knew of any issues there could be. Cheers 🙏
go to your task manager and close nvidia container, that's what's blocking it for whatever reason

Setup won't run. Autorun works, but setup refuses to start! Is this because I had already downloaded on my computer before and there are files corrupting it, or is it because of software or compatibility issues preventing it from running? I would appreciate some feedback on how to get around this.
After a lot of tinkering, I decided to do something different. I attempted to copy the essential files from my CDrom drive into a specific directory folder, then add the patches and fixes to that directory. I then tried to run the main executable file once I was done, and surprisingly it works! And I don't need the disc to run it either! Granted it was an iso file I got from an abandonware website, even though I already have a legal copy of the game on CD, except my new laptop doesn't have a built in disc drive. But still, I'm glad I tried this experiment, as the setup file wouldn't run no matter what I did!
To fix this go to the "WINDOWS" folder in your system directory (usually C:) and search for IsUninst.exe, after finding it you should delete all instances of this file and then you're ready to go.
@@sadmanzaid420 I've already tried that, but it didn't work. Thankfully I found a work around, which was to copy the essential files from my CDrom image file to the directory.

nope, still cant get it to work...My Desktop wont even install, the MS Surface 8 it installs it, but i get wierd msgs like DirectX7not installed or the game crashes at splash screen... i give up. i guess some old stuff needs to get forgotten.

I cant get past the install, before the wizard opens I get an insufficient memory error.
I eventually got it installed by buying a disk and running the installer in compatibility mode for windows 7, for some reason the other modes didn't work or were causing some sort of CDCode EReg error.
Now it runs mostly correctly, but I cant configure any controllers I own without thr game freezing up.
I'm most of the way through beating the game with keyboard now. I hit the 80 car limit 'cause I'm an I N V E S T O R.

To anyone who may think the patch link is dead, IT IS NOT DEAD. You have to copy and paste the link that's in the wayback machine site onto another tab so your browser can download the patch.
So far this is the ONLY patch and that got my game to work.

My problem was overwolf and nvcontainer.
In my case I had to keep terminating nvcontainer processes to setup keep working.
