" going to turn this RV into a private jet " WHAT? Don't be silly! It would be too complicated to pressurize it, especially with that spongy roof. He'll maybe pinch a couple of Rolls Royce Merlins from some military museum to power it and fly it like a big, fat old bomber lol.
The worst possible scenario for an RV is to sit outdoors unused for long periods of time. Dealers don't like to take them in trade because there is always so much wrong with them that there is very little if any profit to be made. Donating this one for temporary housing for vets is the best case use for it. Thanks for taking care of Americas most valuable asset Jimmy.
you ain't wrong. I'm having to completely re-roof mine after a couple of years in the West Texas heat/cold and everything in between. Once completed, it WILL be covered henceforth. Got to wait until the temp is below triple digits before I can get out and work on it. After all, I AM 80 years old and can't do what I used to.
Jimmy. Tell your R V tech that R V refrigerators do not have freon. The refrigerator uses ammonia, hydrogen, and water to cool. Also, it takes several hours for the refrigerator to cool down.
That’s funny. Ammonia is the worlds oldest refrigerant but has been very widely discontinued in the United States and replaced with various CFC’s and HFC’s
@@mikeryan6277actually no it hasnt... just not used in recipocating compressors much... it has not been replaced by freon its still used in High volume refrigeration systems
Not sure about this Suburban fridge but the Dometic ammonia absorption systam in our old Airstream had propane high/low flame heat and an electric heater unit for use with 120 VAC or 12 VDC ( separate circuits in same element).
I too was in a small airplane when I was a kid. After WWII my dad was friends with a man in our town that built an airfield in our small ( Warrenville, IL ). He took us up in his Citabria. All I remember is my dad was a little green after the flight. I thought it was great. The airfield was turned into a subdivision before I was a teenager.
Jimmy, that duct tape is gonna fail quick. May I recommend you get some ETERNABOND tape to replace the duct tape? I had a problem with my RV and man, that stuff is amazing. Your roof will have to be replaced but .... if you decide to use the frame for the Elvis Jet it will allow you to use it until you are ready to take her apart or rebuild it.
Re: your water heater. I don’t think your RV has a HOT water heater. It is most likely a cold water heater. If your water was already hot you wouldn’t have to heat it.
I know it’s gonna be a pain in the behind to fix all the problems on the RV… but man it would hurt to see it ript a part for only the chassis to Frankenstein an old crappy jet on top of it. But that’s probably what Jimmy would do 🫣🫣😅
I got a snowmobile for free. $900 later and it was an impressively reliable and good looking machine. Yes for a few hundred more I could’ve bought a perfect one, but this one I made perfect! It’s nice to get something back to useable condition again, but you have to weight the cost versus effort. Unfortunately I think this one is beyond what it’s worth to properly fix.
When new, that was a quite expensive rig. How could someone just park it and let it rot?? It still looks okay cosmetically, but the roof rot and mold have kinda destroyed that RV. But!! If you want to use it as a stationary home, just throw a few tarps over the top and call it done. Great series, Jimmy!!!
Seasoned Citizens tend to buy these things (they are the only ones who can afford them new, kind of...), and they travel till they lose their ability to travel, and they park it out of the way, probably cause they no longer feel like dealing with it (including the task of selling it). The best case scenario is they park it in a enclosed garage, other wise, nature starts reclaiming it without maintenance.

One more thing- What does Wings of Compassion have to do with the Elvis jet? The RV was donated to a non-profit. Is the jet owned by WoC? Co-mingling funds and assets with a non-profit is a no go. Don't mix the Rv and the jet.
Lap sealant isn’t the primary seal!!! It’s just to redirect water. The main seal is what’s under the vents or skylights. Also don’t follow this guy and coat it. That’s a bandaid and not a good one Also there is lauan (plywood) very thin and styrofoam under your roof. The strength comes from all that being laminated together so when it’s damaged or soft the roof is compromised. Just be safe out there.
People think RVs will last, having one being out in the weather the sun are a fix or repair every day. If they are not in a warehouse they will go down fast. There is so many things to go wrong. A money pit.
Blown up magnets... I swear 'someone' mentioned that before! Cough.... ;) IF you can find one with a blown up motor, it's worth mixing the two to get a good one. But those Kubota engines will run for like 20K hours or more.
My dad gave me 1 of those collapsible ladders before he passed away. I use that thing all the time. Even took it to my sister's house to clean gutters for her.
Think RVs are the most hated vehicles a mechanic would ever want to work on. Once told a rv owner he shouldn't be pulling a full size 4x4 behind his rv. he told me I didn't know what I was talking about as his was rated to pull that much. I showed him the blue front rotors with chunks broken out from heat cracks. None were available and his vehicle was down for 3 weeks with him in it. Wanted to know why I couldn't fix it. His RV maker had special made rotors that were unobtainable.
That chocolate chip boonie cover the mechanic is wearing makes me smile. Only us old farts had a chance to wear those in the field in the '80s and '90s.
My neighbor has this same one minus the Cummins which is the better of the two engines 8100 vortec mpg is maybe 5. He paid 110,000 brand new still uses it yearly like all blue birds
Jimmy dont do it...... dont you dare rip up the RV for the elvis jet.... Get with Niko Brothers and just get a salvaged Copart RV and take the wrecked one with a good chassis and built it into a RV
Gosh, Jimmy that isn't such a big list for a vehicle left neglected for so long! No real expensive fixes, except perhaps the generator. Contact "Small engine mechanic" channel on you tube. There isn't much he does not know about generators! It is also his "Day job". Those ceramic magnets are possibly from the battery charging alternator. When I was running my own bus-motor-home, I adjusted the brakes for about 1" travel on the slack adjuster. Glad to help with experiences if I may.
OMG! Don’t ever get under anything with airbags without properly supporting it first! All you need to do is cut or nick a line and you’ll get crushed when the Vehicle drops!
Jimmy I have a 1999 380 MBS as well and I have no idea how my batteries are supposed to be connected. Do you guys have any information on the battery schematic? When I bought my coach the previous owner had just replaced the batteries and the shop that did the work hooked them up wrong. I’ve been trying for the past couple of years to figure out how they are supposed to be wired. If you or Bruce have any suggestions I would appreciate it. BTW I love your channel and content that you share….I must because here I am watching the trip with you and the guys having just picked up the RV for your maiden voyage across Florida and it’s 12:40 in the am!

The amount of mold in that thing makes it unfit to stay in! The roof plywood is shot and the side is delaminating. There really isn't any reason to sink the amount needed to get that thing up to par and safe to use. A new roof alone will be $5-10K with ann the underlayment needing to replace. Not worth it to repair. Maybe the chassis will work for the Jet Star but it's days as an RV are over.
Just drive it to any street in downtown LA, park it and take the keys. The houseless Fentanyl zombies will thank you for being such a caring RUclipsr. 😆
Mechanic while looking at brake canister and spring brakes ask Jimmy, you have air brakes on this rig ? Jimmy should have said , come on out and I will get a real mechanic . LOL

NO Jimmy, just NO! Get an ordinary truck of any sort, ideally just a cab/chasis and build your Elvis RV onto that. It should work out cheaper AND less wasteful than destroying that not too bad RV that WOULD make a quite nice home for someone, or for you moving about.

Been my experience that freon is used as a generic term. Kind of like "filming" with a iPhone.
