- There are a few rust spots on my 1993 Honda Civic Ex. So today we are attacking a couple of these spots using some Bondo Hair and regular Bondo Body Filler. I hope this video is helpful for you guys. Enjoy ;)

Just realized my audio cut out between 9:06 - 9:21 ... basically I was just explaining that since I didn’t have a rust converter on me I used WD40 instead to just help prevent some rust from forming. A rust converter such as chassis saver would help much more
your a good young man / you made a great inst video . thank you .good luck
@@pokerface1967 appreciate you brotha, hope the video was of some help to ya🤙
Good work, I am gonna fix my car's rust holes and wondering how your fix is holding up so far?
@@phamtinkt88I was wondering the same thing
Thanks, came to the comments to see why you were using the WD-40. thanks
Legends say he's still hand sanding that bondo.
Lmfaooo I’m currently on my highest grit almost there 🥵🤣
That's "legend has it"
Its fiberglass
@@charredskeleton legend states, is also acceptable
Ancient astronaut theriost say yes......aliens
Love the detail but watch at 1.25 speed you'll thank me later lol good video
Appreciate that fam!🤘
A lot of help thanks
0.5× is way better lol
Thanks

For a first time I think you did a nice job!
You did good for your first time doing it good job
How long do you think this job took?
It’s been a while so I can’t really give you too accurate of a time but it took a good bit ... I’d say close to 10 hours man
Thanks friend!
Does anyone know what he's using to stick the wire mesh to the body? at 8:40?
Fart fart fart
Props on giving it a go. Some tips from a body guy you might appreciate: an electric dual action sander people have around that they use for wood will keep you from sanding for hours. HF has a cheap one. You don’t need a fancy pneumatic DA to get the job done. The audio cut out but it looked like you used WD40 to clean the area before applying filler. Avoid using lubricants to clean with because the oils in it will stop fillers and paints from adhering to the metal correctly. You can also even add some filler to the backside of that patch for some added protection. I know you said you don’t care about the paint but a quick masking job before you start will keep the filler out of places like in between the fenders and save you clean up time later.
Ryan Watts hey much appreciated fam ... yeah an electric sander would have definitely saved me a bunch of time but I cheaped out lol lesson learned I’ll grab one for next project. And yes I used WD40 because I didn’t have a rust converter on me. I was going to use that to prevent future rust. I ended up sanding between the fender/bumper to clean it up ... lesson learned there as well... I’ll probably remove the bumper next time.
I think a cheese file might have been helpful considering all the bondo Bill put on! Can a cheese file be used on long strand bondo?'
Buddy get ya self a 3M sanding block, they’re like $3 your fingers will appreciate it. Also let the products dry longer, it’ll sand alot faster, you did a good job. White is such a forgiving color to hit with a rattle can to clean it up.
I’ve been having issues with my dome light... had to get creative and used drywall screws to screw it back in place... it took me a second to realize I might be screwing through the top of my car.
Long story short here I am.
🤣
Wow, thats brilliant 👏
That's hilarious maybe you should try glue next time lol
Nice job. Ignore the negative comments. It's nice to see a young person with some initiative. All the ones I know sit around all day on social media or playing video games.
LOVED this video. You bondo'd this car exactly the way I would! Never did this before either, but I have to do my husband's rocker panels and bought the Bondo and the sandpaper and just gonna wing it! Never heard of Bondo hair - but makes sense and that self adhesive grid is probably something I'll need too. I learned a few things. Thanks!!
claate that’s awesome! Good luck with your project! Glad the video could help.
What’s the difference would it make if you didn’t use the bondo hair?
Dude.. level the audio.. you're almost impossible to hear, then music blows my ears out.. killin me man. Other than that.. nice video. Definitely recommend a rotary sander
My apologies man definitely will work on that ... oops lol
Bro, I fucking love the audio music. I've got my airpods on, following along, and this shit is HYPHY!
@@davethefish7653 I have no problem with the music.. its the low volume for talk, high volume of music.. I turned it the hell up to hear him, then damn near blew out an eardrum on the music lol...
@@AlanDike Damn, I didn't have any issues hearing him. I was vibing.
@@davethefish7653 hahaha ayyyy vibe out my guy😎🤣🤟
Garbage. No sense in taping your first time doing anything unless you want to be clowned.
Great visuals and appreciate how you went step by step. Great job with the final result!
Appreciate that! Hope it helped ya out🤟
looks great dude. even though its a beater, theres always that pride of fixing your own ride. I have a similar problem with my car but my rust spot is more of a very deep rust crack. its practically crying rust at this point so i'm looking to bondo it. how long would you saw this whole project took you to do? looks like a few days at least
Wire brush first saves you time with the sand paper
Great job for a first time. I have a truck that needs work done on the bed's fender panels in the exact same spot on both sides of the wheel wells. Gotta love all the salt Wisconsin uses during the winter lol.
Appreciate that! Do ya drive a Chevy Silverado? Those rear quarters are always rusting haha. Bullet proof trucks tho. *the older ones*. I’m out in CT so we have the same issue over here. Hope all went well with your project.🤟
Same problem in jersey! Damn salt!
A pro tip, take the bumper off to save the trouble of getting filler off of it later.
Excellent job for first time!! looks good. You explained a lot and didn't really skip any steps of the process. This was informative, thorough and helpful. Keep up the good work
Appreciate the kind words … I did my best research and job with what I had. Glad this was helpful.🤟
Thanks for the video. One of the first ones that popped up on my search. I'm new to this Bondo game too. Anyway, I was sitting here looking at a 2x5 inch hole in the fender well wondering how the heck can I fill this? Didn't even think about the wire mesh! Thanks for the bail out!
Seriously thank you for telling me that was your first time doing this. You saved me some time. Thanks for being honest
No doubt gots to be transparent … just looking to help with the research I’ve done🤙
What up Walt Jr 👋🏻 an thanks for this video bc my car has a small rust hole on the bottom of car frame under duvet back door
hope the video helped fam
The music is too loud.
When you drive a beater car, this is what you do. A door shell is $300-600 brand new, and you won’t find much better at a wreckers yard... trust me I tried with my G6. I got ONE door but plenty of scratches, but no rust.
*Could Have Just Cut Out The Rust In Square/ Rectangle Shape Off With A Dremel & Grind The Rust Off*
Good job on your first time, but you definitely should have a sanding block or go get yourself a power sander of some sort. You doing that all by hand can be rough on your hands. Trust me, and an old age I now suffer from major arthritis in my hands. And plus using a power sander or a block would really cut your time way down and give you a way smoother sand.
I will never forget when I finally found my hot wheel car I was looking for
Nice video dude, I have 2004 dodge ram with pitted wheel wells and needed some information how to bondo it, very informative! thanks :)
Joshua Johnson glad it could help man!
Dark gray? Ours is rusted over the wheels to
Literally doing this right now on my 04 dodge ram. I bought it with fender flares and when I removed them I saw the two rear outer fenders were rusted thru so trying to fix it without paying an arm and a leg. Will have the truck professionally repainted at some point lol
@@jaycamacho8179 fortunately the rot on mine was covered by the fender covers, the bondo didnt have to be painted just needed something to put screw holders into and slow down the rust a bit, it's been a few years and it hasn't progressed passed the the covers yet. ;)
Wow literally me too.
Dodge didn’t put anything to stop the water coming up from the wheel well
From my class in vocational school your not suppose to use wd40 and keep it as far away from anything your painting cause it causes fisheyes in the paint. I took my class 13 years ago. Unless anything has changed your not supoose to do that. Just a tip... for you my guy! I'm trying to catch up on a few things I don't remember cause my eg coupe has some rust spots i gotta fix but for your first time great job bud! Alot of people think body work is hard and its not. It's disciplined work cause you have to take proper steps to ensure the outcome of your paint work. Remember the steps and its a cake walk. Its only hard work if you make it hard! Work smarter not harder is what I've always been taught! 💯‼️💪🏼💪🏼
Great job! I have to do this on both sides and around wheel wells! Thanks!
Appreciate that fam! Hope the video helps you out a bit 👍
For those of you know don't know what the second music is called, it's Jim Yosef - Firefly
You should have on both the rear bumper just enough to pull it out of the way so you don’t have all that Bondo in that body crack
Well, it's been almost a year since you did the repair, how is it holding up?
Sold the car recently but up until then it was holding up mint
haha imagine i bought the car and i saw this
Dj Louie haha I told the buyer about it along with everything else lol ... I say it how it is
@@BillyStocking good on you for being honest, we need more of that in the world
@@ifoundthewords I wouldn’t want to be lied to myself so I see no reason for it. I’m a fan of fair deals going down where both people leave feeling content with it. Win win and then you won’t have to deal with someone contacting you about all the issues you didn’t tell them about.
I would have taken the bumper off to make ot easier and thank ypu for using tje mesh instead of just filling it full of bondo
Completely agree that was a big mistake I made being careless since it was my “beater car” I didn’t care too much about it but next time around I definitely would👍 mesh gives more durability and structure ... that’s also a must
@@BillyStocking yea but in that case it was for more looks than lomg time fix
@@1978ranger yeah, he used the mesh just for you.
What can you use to make sure the self-adhesive body patch will stick in the hole ?
hope you learned how to handle a camera since then. It was all over the place....couldn't watch it !!!
I loved how he stopped at Walmart and grabbed q hot wheels car 🥺
U definitely need to cut more rust out because its just gonna crack and rust more
There's a better way....move away from places that use salt on the roads!
Seems like you could of used the bondo hair to hold the patch in place
Nice improv to layer the mesh to get a good backing.
Bodywork taught by Pete Davidson.
Hahaha ayyyy never got that one before🤣
Fixing a hole this way is no different than padding your shirt instead of working out. Neither one is right.
If it looks good and you mention it when you sell it, what’s the issue?
@@Jv9569 It would be like shaking hands with someone and telling them you just took a dump and did not wash your hands, either way it is shitty. Besides it would never look "good".
Jumping from the garage sanding to the night club a few times ......
Title of video should be how to not apply fiberglass to your car
terrible editing haha, but I appreciate the tutorial nonetheless
😂😂😂😂
Thanks Man... I got my car shot up almost a year ago. No im not a gangster lmao... But True story... The other guys in prison now. Anywhooo Now I've got several Bullet holes in my SUV... Apparently police just arrest people but dont offer repair work. Lol... So im trying to figure out how to fix the holes myself. I've NEVER done it before and hopefully after watching thos video, I don't completely Eff it up.... Lol... Maybe I'll make my own RUclips Video about it. Should be an interesting story for YT... Thanks again man Your Awesome!
No way! That’s wild man! Sucks you couldn’t get any money for that that’s a raw deal. At least they got the guy. Good luck with the job I’m glad this helped ya out! Definitely make a video man! Always could use different perspectives. Appreciate the love.
Use some spray foam to hold the wire mesh in place and then Bondo over it. That's the way I've been doing it for nearly 50 years. Yea I'm a professional and that's the way I've done thousands of cars without any problems.
There is a cleaner way of doing this I should make a video
Should have used a sanding block. Less effort and smoother surface.
No doubt ... wasn’t thinking ... next time for sure
Would a sanding sponge from 3m work similar to a sanding block?
@@FaderSkate should get the job done
I CAN TELL YOU HAVE A REAL EYE FOR PERFECTION, YOU MIGHT WANT TO APPLY FOR A JOB IN A PRESTIGIOUS AUTO RESTORATION SHOP,
Hey I really appreciate that! I grew up with the mindset in my head if you’re going to do something you do it 100% to the best of your ability so I always do strive for perfection. I am actually a precision grinder (machinist) for an aerospace company atm so that probably helps train the keen eye too haha. Thanks again.
Loved the video. We have a 1954 Willys Aero Ace Deluxe. You're a great teacher. I'm going to tackle the smallest of rust holes first. Thank you for sharing your knowledge in an exciting and optimistic way!
Electronic music .way to load other wise good vid
get an angle grinder, you'll thank me
Dude spend the 59 bucks and get a used da lol 😂
gave it a like as soon as the Hot Wheels came out
I watched a video with a rust hole like yours. He used fibreglass cloth and covered it with fibreglass resin. Then after sanding it down he covered it with bondo and it turned out great. Please get an electric grinder and sander.I also notice the guys use an air hose to blow out the rust pieces when they fall to the bottom behind the panel you would be working on. I have an older square body truck and I need to do bodywork[first time] so I am watching a lot of videos. I felt so sorry when I saw how much hand sanding you had to do. Thanks for the video.
that beat goes if you pit speed on 1.5
Great vid, came across it as I need to do the same of my Ford's wings, common problem on the front arches.. This is exactly what I needed to watch to save a few quid, cheers
Wheel arches suck the worst
Great video! Thanks!
For being ur first time bro its stayed badass great job
cut the music ~ it's annoying ...
Ill try this on my 93 celica
Best of luck
Good job for a first time👍🏻
Eared a sub thx man ! I might record mine !
thanks fam! You should man🤙
Dude....this has helped me so much. Awesome job! I'm literally going to watch this several times. I have a bunch of rust holes and I thought it was impossible to touch them up but after seeing this, there's hope!!!! Thank you!
This is such a great video. The music, mic quality, and car make it feel like it's 2009 again.
Ayyy I appreciate that. Gotta love old school vibes. Just a normal dude with a couple project cars and hand tools over here haha. Thanks again🤟
Use a piece of cardboard....
Good job
Looks like a good quick repair of the rust, but man, 2 minutes disconnecting that bumper would have saved you hours of headache!
Thank you for the video. Ive never used bondo and I want to fill a quarter panel on a work van. It doesnt need to be perfect, just presentable. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for sharing and great job ,I filled my hole with that foam spray called great stuff and it works awesome .
Definitely looks good!
Nice video man, you should of just removed ur rear bumper which would of saved you time with the filler in the gap, and deffo use primer on bare metal before your colour match paint to protect it.. just from my own experiences I’m no expert!
I think you did great for a 1st time. I've got to do the same thing for my 06 impala ss. Thats what brought me here. Thanks
thanks so much, I was thinking of using fiberglass, but I'm going to try this. Just want to pass inspection
nice HotWheels
Super important to clean the surface ur about to sand the shit out of with a dry microfiber!
But I did?
@@BillyStocking its unnecessary😂
Great!
Did you get the sanding kit from autozone, I’m about to start at a hole on my Honda civic ex
Please come do my car please
Nice video.. Next time. Remove the bumper
Sheren Padayachee thank ya! Agreed.
why he kinda…
Good job and thanks for the video saves a lot of money cuz the auto body shops charges from $500 to $2500
I'll try this next spring on my car. Good video (except for the music).
Great job!
The year before the mask
Dude, you need a sander.
Great effort and you have the patience for body work. Just next time use sanding blocks when knocking down the bondo to get the shape of the fender.
Bro you went from bondo work to nailin Arianna Grande and Kim K. Respect.
Yuckkk dude... You should have taken off the bumper... You really made it awful 🤯
When sanding x pattern then prime then ur pinholes show more then glaze puddy ur pinholes
Thank you so much, this will be my first time using Bondo and you explained the process very well.
WD40? Wtf?
