Jordy I have not been able to comment for over 4 years till now on u tube. The first comment is to thank you, I lost my Mom around same time you lost yours. You said Anyone can do this, so I tried it was a great therapy I'm a 60 ish yr old Grandma of 9 , thank you young man for your inspiration n know how. So glad I can message you to thank you , just tell you your adored from Michigan's thumb 🤗
We have black gum or tupelo here in southern Indiana. It is a beast to split as the grain is twisted or intertwined. If I am not mistaken it was used in weaving due to the grain type as it doesn't readily split. I would definitely power carve it!
@CarvingFusion oddly enough the wood generally isn't harvested here that I know of. Most timber cutters won't fool with it because it doesn't bring much money for them. Let me take a walk out back in the next few days. I can't remember if I cut a big double tree or left it stand. Most foresters slash tupelo here as a junk tree. All that being said I do have access to bandsaw mill and black gum if I haven't cut all the bigger trees down.
Hi, I'm not to sure if black gum is hard wood or not but any gum wood i have carved has been super hard, Maybe if u had some of that tupelo wood u might consider selling me a few chunks? Not a biggy though because u would have to put in a box and ship it , lol (I hate doing it) lol
@CarvingFusion as far as I'm concerned I would give it to you but the wood that I have would be green fresh cut that is if I haven't cut the trees already. I will check my woods as soon as get a chance then let you know something. I will also talk to a friend of mine that is a sawmiller and see if he has anything.
Thats awesome maybe i cohld send u some bark and a woodspirit, Can you email me please at Canadian1dude@gmail.com or give me your email please@brianwright1394
