Any self-respecting egg would be proud to be perched in that, Phil! Have to admit, I was a bit dubious at first, but this piece really grew on me the more I studied it. Well done! 👍
BTW, I second your recommendation of Supergrit Abrasives. When I bought my Sand-O-Flex, I had trouble making an online connection & had to call them directly. Mr Ottolenghi himself took my call & we had a most pleasant chat. He was courteous, friendly, personable & quite helpful with the purchase. I was very impressed & will use them again.
Lol.. it is so funny that I told Ron that it looks like an egg cup that they would use for a medium or hard boiled egg like in those fancy restaurants back in the day. And here ya come showing up with your eggs. And your final egg choice is perfect. Wonderful as usual Uncle Phil 😊
I think it is pretty darn cool looking Phil. The idea of making it an egg cup is perfect. And for me you cut just enough wood away to really show off the bark. Great talk about safety. I have heard lots about wearing a ring. Take care buddy! Gary
Clever you! I would never have thought about an egg cup, but I was leaning towards a display stand of some kind, to show off a prized fossil or crystal, so I was close! 😄 I love how easy-going you are about the creative process, Phil...every artist knows that they don't all work out the way we planned, but if you keep at it you can get some fun results anyway. Worst comes to worst, you can toss it in the stove to take the chill off that woodshop!
That’s the most elegant egg cup I have ever seen, and you were quite right, the first egg was the best fit. Your wife is still helping you, so many times you find one of her collected items which really suit your turnings.
I kept thinking egg cup, but it wasn't food safe so this is an excellent different egg cup! We seem to often unconsciously gravitate towards symmetry, but there is much beauty to be found outside that narrow scope. A unique, and truly adorable, piece. 💗
Well Phil, that’s different. I didn’t think I was going to like it, but when you got the finish on it, and put the eggs in it, turns out I do like it! Both of the purple eggs look nice in it. I think you can rest assured that there will never be another one just like it! Great fun!
Hello Phil. Thanks so much for sharing your "Cherry Plum What". Call it what you want mate. It's a terrific job you have done and goes to prove one can turn anything from just about anything and make a good job of it. For your interest you comment about how cold it is up your way. "Down-Under" here in Beachmere, Queensland, Australia the temperature is 34C which is around 94F. Had to get up early this morning to beat the heat to finish off a bowl in my shed workshop. Thanks again for your RUclips vids. They offer so much to all of us. Kind Regards, Dave, Beachmere Queensland Australia
I just love spending time with you Phil as you talk & work your way through each piece, it's just SO relaxing. It is so often a journey of discovery & this, I think, is just what this piece is. I find it a delightful little piece of 'Art/Craft' work. Those eggs suit very nicely but, along with you, I like the first one, it just 'relates well'. Well done my friend & stay well. I hope you come through your current investigations well. Mine, not so good, it seems I have Prostate Cancer. How badly I don't know but should get a better idea after Feb. 6 with the next biopsy. Cheers mate, Don from South Aust.
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Thanks , my friend, I am NOT going get 'down in the dumps' over it. As far as I am concerned, 'LIFE OES ON'. I hope your 'tests' etc are turning out in your favour my friend. Cheers, Don.
Your tool selection and use is always informative, but what I like most is watching you work through the decision process of what the piece should be. The sanding sealer before super glue was a revelation for me. I have made so many pieces that were what I wanted, except for the glue stains. Thank you!!
Leave it up to come up witth a beautiful idea out of a 5 branch piece. You gave some inspiratiojn of what i can do with some of my scraps. I know it was Cherry-Plum, I was hopping it was more SCRAP APPLE!! SCRAP APPLE, SCRAP APPLE, SCRAP APPLE!!!!!!! i love to say that and cant get it out of my mind. KEEP ON TURNING
Great to see you at the lathe Phil! Gotta say that I couldn't figure out where you were going with that piece, I kept thinking you were going to make a hollow out of the center, but you fooled me. That is for sure a unique piece, and the finish really did make it pop. I expect to see egg holders at all the hobby stores and farmers markets now! I've had egg holders all my life on the farm, I call 'em chickens! LOL Really a fun turning to watch, you take care Phil, stay warm and know you are appreciated! Rick
Wow! It certainly turned out beautiful. Initially I was disappointed when you turned away the bark at the top, but it turned out fantastic. You are so true about safety: common sense, being aware of what can hurt you, and keep thinking about what will hurt you.
I appreciate your prelude comments. YOU have to believe that YOU are safe based on YOUR experience and knowledge. i am 100% sure that you will NEVER please/satisfy every viewer. I am also positive that some people like and some people dislike the finished piece of art for almost every single object that you turn. i encourage you to continue crafting what you see in every raw piece of wood please. You will never please everyone. If someone doesnt have an open mind to see original artwork and appreciate it for what it is....they dont have to watch, isnt that correct? Thanks for the beauty of every piece that you free from every blank and share with us for every object.
I like it Phil, has to wait until the end for what it was. But saw it afterwards. Very unique and love the blue grain. Well stay warm and have a good weekend
Good evening, Phil. I really like your emerging egg cup. It just pops right up out of the log base. It could have been a really short rocket shooting out of the log as well. Gotta love wood turning.
That turned out very well. Really like the idea of using it to hold a glass or resin egg. I agree with you, the first egg really works best in that stand -- the color complements the wood and the transparency with the sparkles inside really provide visual interest. You really made a very nice looking piece from a very odd shaped piece of wood. When you showed the raw branch, my first thought was, "that's got potential, really looking forward to seeing how Phil uses it". I was not disappointed -- it turned out great.
Well you must have heard me talking to you through the sceen, I was saying it should be an egg cup right from the start. You did this piece justice. So glad to see you are well enough to share your time with us
Thank You Phil... Boy, I do not remember that little piece at all... Sure glad you are saving all those little limbs. It makes for a very stable/unique turning that looks cool. I remember way back when I started sending (C) advised me to "leave that fellow alone! He doesn't want you to bother him with all that silly wood you collect!". HA, sure glad I DIDN'T listen!!! Fun, Beautiful, Unusual & until next time.... TM
Haha, I'm sure glad you didn't listen to her either, Tuffy! Just think of all the wonderful pieces from you I've been able to turn! Mind blowing, really. You have made a big difference to me, my viewers and my channel! Glad you like it, buddy, thank you! 😊
I'm finally back from Christmas vacation. Today's turning is different, but cute . I like its. Not sure about it being an egg holder. I think it can stand on it's own merit.
Phil , I must say that this is quite an interesting piece . The legs really add a different dimension to the piece . I , too , agree that the first egg looked the best . Maybe you could use it as a pedestal for one of your other bowls or make a new in a Part 2 piece . Anyway , you really put some life into this little piece . Morning Phil. I actually thought of it becoming and Egg Cup when you didn't flatten the bottom of the bowl. I think it's love my friend. Take care Phil. Cheers, Huw
Here's what I think, Phil. I think you should turn an egg to fit in the egg cup. I always enjoy your videos. Here's the best to you! Thanks for sharing this video.
My oh my an art piece for the "look what I made from a weird shaped lump of wood" shelf, but that bark came to the rescue as did your quirky idea of an egg cup, I would suggest some fine sand to seat the egg in, good job Phil. 😁
Your egg cup turned out beautifully. I have several semi precious stone eggs and I would love to have some of your turnings to display them. They are wonderful!
When you started I wasn’t sure what you would end up with. Once again you turned a cool piece. I wasn’t sure what it was but just as you said egg holder I thought egg. Your wife would smile to see her purple egg being displayed in this lovely turning. Thanks for the show. Joel
This is right up my alley. I love watching you do these kinda things. And I can't believe people complain about safety because I've seen videos of guys from other countries doing things that will make you cringe!
I ordered the 'special' and very satisfied! I did ask about the 550a that I found but they didn't know that model. I guessed right and now you need to turn an egg to fit. Very nice piece!
Glad to hear this, Jim, thanks! 😊 I do see the 550a and refills come up on eBay now and then. That's the one with 10 slots, right? Much larger and heavier!
Very nice Phill I loved your comments on looking the piece over before you start turning to have a good idea where the danger areas are and were to be extra careful and how to start your first cut. Great job.
EGG CUP! Its a beautiful piece, Phil!! I love it! Once you came back from looking for a candle and started turning, it seemed like you chose an egg cup. I love the 5 legs! Im glad you left them all, it adds to the art esthetic! Thanks!❤❤❤
Hi Phil An egg cup with a handle, who would ever thunk it!!! I had no idea what you were going to do with this piece of wood but it will make a great conversation piece. Safety is always a personal choice and as others have said you will never please everyone. Nice job Phil. Take care Bob
Well I gotta tell you I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs watching you turn that piece after pointing out the possibility of that branch hitting your hand! I think it is pretty darn cool looking Phil. The idea of making it an egg cup is perfect. And for me you cut just enough wood away to really show off the bark. Great talk about safety. I have heard lots about wearing a ring.

Thank you, Gary! Yup, ring, watch, sleeves. Maybe we could try naked? You go first! 😊
Neat! 👍👍

Good looking egg cup and I guessed right when you asked! Look unusual and very nice, well done and thanks!

Cool, thanks, Al! 😊

Nice work, Phil! Never would have guessed an egg cup, but it is a fun piece. Well done! I'm glad you made it through without hitting your hand.
Thank you, Jim! 😊
I am always amazed at how you make something beautiful out of a worthless piece of wood!
😊
I had it figured out when you said it was not a candle holder. I love this piece. I proud you didn't knock a knuckle with the odd shape.

Thank you, D! 😊

I appreciate that! 😊
I am amazed that the double side tape hold this piece so well.
I've used in on much larger pieces, too. It's strong! 😊
I was too. I’ve learned so many great techniques from watching Phil’s channel. He is like the Bob Ross of wood turning for me. 😂
Cool use of a rather strangely shaped piece of wood. I as "voting" for egg cup from the beginning. Nice piece.
Cool, good on ya, Bill! 😊
Egg cup... Too cool! I thought first of an ornamental sphere, so I wasn't too far off. Then I thought of M&Ms. Think I'll go get some...😊

Yup, you guessed it, Texana! Others pointed out some other uses for it too like holding an autographed baseball. Lots of options, I suppose. 😊
Very cool.. Love how it turned out

Glad that didn't happen....yhew!
I like the piece and I said to myself "egg cup" early on. Glad you agree. I liked the last egg better, but they're all good.
Happy to see you turning.
You're still in my prayers!
Thank you so much, Bob! 😊
Phil, you could turn a wooden egg and paint it as an Easter egg. It would also fit the holder better😀😀 Love your video's. Jim Brown
Thanks for the idea, Jim! 😊
Nice egg cup.
Thank you, Brad! 😊
Sweet! Your lovely wife must be proud!
I'm sure she would like it, Carolyn! 😊
Very fun, i live your ingenuity

Very unusual Phil. I wish I can find a piece of wood like that. Very enjoyable like always Phil. Thank you for sharing. See you next week. Be good

I'm glad you like it, Dan! 😊

Great to see you back at it Phil. I hope that are recovering and getting back to normal.
