The most entertaining in karaoke isn’t the one who can belt or have a great tune but the one who have confidence to sing it out no matter what bad it is.
Watching this as an adult knowing what I know now, and now I see that both Michael and Julianne are extremely narcissistic and Kim was super codependent but shines because she’s authentic and not afraid to be vulnerable. Michael likes her because he can walk all over her. He tests her boundaries and she caves every time. She’s great supply. And then guilt trips her into not giving up her career until she breaks down and cries. Julianne and Mike would never work because both of them don’t want to backdown and give up control. Kim cried and apologizes every time even when it’s not her fault. Poor Kim in a couple of years she will be a shell of a person until she reaches her breaking point and starts on her journey of rebuilding herself.
Well, I think the conclusion of the movie gives hope that she'll have a stiffer spine so that (1) she'll make sure she communicates her feelings/decisions; and (2) hopefully won't cave as much (although she might have to do some therapy to learn this).
I kind of love how much this blows up in Jules’(? Genuinely don’t remember Julia’s characters name without googling) face. It was a really cool perspective of this movie, but in reality there wasn’t any right for her to ever try to foil Kimmy’s wedding imo. It’s nice because there weren’t a lot of movies at the time like this (and if there were, lmk so I can watch them lol!)
Minus the people yelling insults at the beginning, this is a pretty realistic depiction of karaoke. I've never done a good job singing at karaoke, and a lot of the people I've seen haven't been good either, but everyone either doesn't care or is really supportive.
I thought of this when I was singing a quick line from a song during my works zoom meeting today. It’s all about being in the spirit of the song that matters, not the voice. Hey look at Bob Dylan- DEFINITELY not gifted with a singing voice haha
This scene is examplary of how men and women love at a primal level. Jules takes kimmy to a karoke bar thinking her bad singing will be a turn off to michael... And it shows how women love men at a subconscious level.. women are more likely to be atteacted to or fall in love with someone accomplished..at a karoke bar jules was more likely to be attracted to a man who sings very well...and she thinks michael loves in the same way ..when in truth michael like any guy is more likely to fall in love with a girl who is just there to have fun and can be herself. This scene shows him truly loving kimmy while shes singing badly because he sees her doong it for him...he sees her trying hard to let go snd then she finally does and just goes all out and has fun...thats why Jules' plan didnt work out...she thought like a woman does.
i dont think men way of loving roots is ''a woman having fun and being herself'' its mora that men dont look for ''badasses'' when it comes to women, but more like women who wont intimidate them.
This movie is funny, but if you think about it, one possible the message is: that a strong and independent woman lost the man she loves, to a younger blonde that doesn't challenge him.
Jules was not a strong woman. She was weak and had issues that she was too arrogant to overcome She lost her chance with the man she loved because of it. You cant be masculine with a man. Its simple yin and yang.

And her conniving totally...backfired. Kimmy was just too adorable.
I love how the crowd simply cheers on Kimmy for having the nerves to go through with the karaoke, foiling Julianne's plan to majorly embarrass her!
😏😏😏
Karaoke crowds are usually pretty great. They cheer ya on good or bad.
Nothing gets past you huh
Well, even Julianne was impressed
It's impossible not to love such a sweetheart like Kimmy
Chocolate covered Kimmy
This was probably one of the sweetest scenes ever..she truly loves him.🥰
💯🙌

yeah, poor kimmy should have dumped michael.

“YOU SUCK” in the background 😂😂😂
Now that’s a voice for silent movies
Cameron is adorable.

I'M SO HAPPY FOR MICHAEL AND KIM

The spirit adds to the confidence/delivery!
That sounds like me! Such a great scene… and movie ❤
Amooo Michael e Kimmy

this was literally a horror film. idk why people found it quirky and cute.

Neither one of them is a good fit.
for me all i saw was two washed up 30 year olds who had no business terrorizing someone 10 years their junior. it was extremely weird.
Jules was not a strong woman. She was weak and had issues that she was too arrogant to overcome

Me gustaría saber q tal canta en serio y ojalá Jules y Michael tbn hubieran cantado... Q canto tan horrible...
