The two 'key' sentences to understand this song are IMO: Music comes from the white house (~America leads). Who doesn't want to dance at the end, doesn't know he will have to dance.
In Europe some people don't like Americas self-given role as the 'world-police'.

I think you were pretty close, but I think it's more about the Americanisation of other places, because America's culture is pretty dominant in the west, and even elsewhere.
He doesn't like that everywhere is becoming 'America' eg Disneyland in Paris, a very American Santa in Africa, the music video would have been more helpful to you than the lyrics I thing, so maybe someone led you wrong there!

@@miri5373 Yes and no. Because there is often a double meaning and I saw already people reacting to the one or other video and they still did not get it. But yes, at least that one. But if someone is sending one with "only lyrics" it would be really nice from that person to do it at least with englisch lyrics. But OK nowadays we should not be that polide anymore it seems like. Yeah that's a bummer. I can see having the lyrics next to you, but without the video footage from the official video you lose a lot of the context/symbolism. Plus the really cool special effect they came up with for the video by having the singer perform at double speed, everyone else be slower, then slowing the video down so the singer seemed "normal speed" and everyone else was half speed. Gave it a cool surreal effect.
"I didn't even know that germans roll the 'r'". They don't really do that. There are parts of germany in the south, where you can find dialects with a slightly rolled 'r', but Rammstein are from the east, and it's not common there. So it's more of an artistically decision to make it that way. It's not common to speak that harsh and agressive in germany. This is rooted in german chanson singing from the 20ies/30ies, and kind of an overdramatization through overpronounciation. Something you also can find in opera.

Having grown up in Germany and speaking it, yes, every German I know rolls their Rs. Obviously not all Germans do, but all that I ever spoke with did. Grew up in western Germany

You should listen to their song "Deutschland", for that one the music video is an essential part of the experience though (also, lyrics plus translation, plus optionally commentary on wordplay/what is being referenced may be helpful)
"We're all living in Amerika" of course means that even the ones who live outside the U.S. are profoundly influenced by their culture. Some willingly, some against their will.

I think they may have meant the english translation lyrics. Usually if you Google a Rammstein song the english translation lyrics will come up. Rammstein songs are often poetic in the translation, and still usually rhymes in the native german! Love this band!

Yes Rammstein. Impressed how you get the sence of this song. It is a sarcastic song about America 😁. But you missed everything Rammstein stands for. The video is awsome for ex. BUT Rammstein is next to NW the best live performance you can imagine. They are doing art. Insane, evil with unbelievable pyro. Give them a chance and have a look at "Engel" live from Madison Square Garden or "Du hast" live from Paris. Also the live version of "Amerika" will blow your mind. And YES you spelled BMW right 😁😁😁

I don't know if someone here already said that, but Till Lindemann (the vocalist) rolls the r's very extensively to embrace on some klishees that some non-germans have.

Yes, this song is about American imperialism, and the war being America's main export product.
If your review of this song had been released a few months later I would have guessed that the place you had heard it before was in the trailer advertising the remake of the second Destroy All Humans game. However, unless you had access to the trailer before it was dropped on RUclips, then I would guess that you might have been mixing it up with the song used in the trailer of the remake of the first DAH game, with the song itself being different from this one yet performed by the same artists.
Its not that you pronounce BMW wrong, its just that you pronounce W very different. Its correct for your own language.
Its German, the vocalist till Lindemann has ben scrutinized for the rolling of his R's in the past as it was also the pronunciation the 3rd reich used. although till is from the west side of the Berlin wall where it was more common to hear the r rolled like Bavaria and Austria... there's actually a documentary on rammstein thats pritty good...

1:10 They are imitating how Americans roles their R's although there is a region in Germany called Siegerland in which people also tend to roll their R's but Rammstein isn't from there.
4:30 I don't think you do, it's just 3 letters and you should pronounce them like your language pronounces them, like USA or PSV (in dutch the V is kinda like saying "whey" I think)

Germans don't usually roll their Rs. Neither does Till, the singer. But his stage persona does. It might be from how German opera is sung but also Austrians roll their Rs and a certain infamous Austrian is good fodder for a provocative stage persona
Exactly what the song is about but I do know that they mention things in the song that are in the country and potentially around the world like Coca-Cola pizza and so on.
Only a few German dialects have trilled or tapped Rs but Rammstein do it bc traditionally, that's how it'd be done in opera and theatre.
Though many think they do it to sound like Hitler and to stir the pot (which they like to do but with this, it ain't about that).
The band aren't from a region where you speak like that, btw. So it is a stylistic choice.
It's about US cultural imperialism. How all around the world, Europe, Africa, Asia, we're all still "living in America" because so much of our culture and media is being dominated from the US with movies, TV, music. And he mentions that he is not singing in his mothertongue. He is a German but feels pressure to sing in English.

Rammstein is known for social criticism. This songs takes the piss out of how it's always shown to other countries as "america first and greatest" even though there are the same flaws as every other country else has it. In the current album he takes the piss out of germany. As a born and raised half british-german here in germany I can only applaud to this shit. I would love to see a reaction to their music video "Deutschland" from you as it does a similar thing as the "Amerika" one. It's social criticism on "watch where you are going nation or else you fall back to your old ways as you always tend to do". Follow a bit the news and you will notice what I mean. We have similarities america... Like I said greetings from germany. :D
