Thanks for your review. Answering your question: No, the Rode GO II is not the best wireless mic. To begin with, the review didn't include Picogear, DJI, Saramonic Blink500 ProX and Godox MoveLink II M2 kits. They are all very good compact systems and they all meet your three criteria.
Second, the Comica shown in the review is not their best kit. There is the Comica Boom Pro, which has on board audio recording to card, a better audio than the Boom and a protective case.
The Synco also has a better version, the Synco G2. But I think it had not been released by the time of the review.
Third , the Rode GO II doesn't come with lavalliere mics so you will need to spend extra money to buy mics. The same is valid for the LensGo.
Fourth, the Rode GO II doesn't have a headphone port on the receiver so if you are shooting with iPhone then you will need to buy an audio mixer to properly monitor the audio being recorded. The same is valid for the LensGo.
Fifth, the Rode GO II doesn't have a protective case, unlike all other wireless systems presented in the review as well as Picogear, Godox and DJI, which also have protective cases. I believe that a protective case for wireless systems is so crucial that it's not an accessory. It's a necessity.
I can put a case anywhere I want in my backpack or even in the pocket of my coat. I know the kit is well protected. Moreover, a case keeps things organised , making it easier to access what I need than in Rode's messy cheap pouch. Say I need the receiver only. I don't need to look for it as there is a specific place for the receiver in the case. A protective case is also a visiting card from the manufacturer. They are saying they care about you and your equipment.
As for the sound: Many reviewers here on RUclips prefer the sound of various 2.4 GHz wireless systems other than Rode GO II. Moreover, as you said yourself, if you connect a Countryman lav with 3.5mm end, for example, to any of the receivers then that receiver will send the best sound to the camera. ( I guess the combination Countryman with these types of receiver will work)
Moreover, even using the supplied lav mics (not the Rode as it doesn't come with a mic) or just the mic in the transmitter the difference will be minimal seeing that most productions using 2.4 GHz wireless systems will be for the internet and after all the compression there won't be much detail to really stand out. Of course, I am considering here the price range of the kits presented in the review. A £30 wireless kit will be rubbish no matter what you do with it.
I've just watched another reviewer comparing a Comica with Deity and Rode. He says that Deity has better sound and less issues than the other two. Comica is better value for the money. Yet he ends the review saying that his favourite mic overall is the Rode!!!
I think there is a lot of bias favouring Rode . Rode is the filmic pro of microphones: Overestimated.

I've been needing a dual sound recording device almost a year now for my on-site interviews... finally decided to bite the bullet and look into it/invest into it. I've watched all your videos and have decided (using your UK affiliate link) to get the Rode Wireless GO II.👍🏼
Thanks for all the videos you made! I found they answered all my questions and helped me to make an educated decision!
My dad used to be a film,/TV sound engineer ever since before wireless started... I remember he showed me those HUGE wireless packs, which after every few takes he had to switch out the batteries from (dinosaur days) And now: 24-hours charge recording (compressed)!? wow! And no batteries needed.... my dad's mind would have be blown away with the progress of today's technology! 😇

I bought the SYNCO mic, the sound quality is superb, the only downside is the range is lower than Rode, the SYNCO is less reliable after around 40m which isn’t something I need. At 1/3 of the price it was a good call for my needs. Also there is no on board recording backup but there is a headphones socket.

Did you try to connect Rode to the external recorder? I have Zoom H5 and it turned out that when you plug in the receiver, you might notice some interference of the signal resulting some buzzing noise. I saw that someone made a video about it, and the suggested solution was using VXLR-minijack adapter, which I bought, but it looks like that the real solution is just a little longer cable and keeping the receiver no too close to the recorder, as even with the adapter in some positions you can here it. That's maybe the one real downside of the Rode set, besides it works perfectly. Cheers.

@@TomAntos have you heard of the PicoGear Picomic dual lav-mic system??? I been watching reviews of them for a while now, and they even made improvements recently, I've seen, and, although it doesn't have built in sd-card support or anything fancy like that, they are billed as "the world's smallest microphone" although their receiver is bigger than those here, and if you're into a big screen to change settings and stuff, as well as view your microphone battery charge during use, with wifi avoidance technology, with a short range and long range version this appears like it's a good option...
The prices, last I looked were 350$ for the short range, and the newer version of the long range one, according to the support guys I talked to, should be in stock next month for I assume 450$... Question I have is as I stated earlier, have you heard of them, and also, what do you think of something like that, even though it doesn't have support for an external lav-mic hookup??? Are you looking at reviewing them or would you research them and maybe look into the idea of making a video on one of those kits??? New version with mk2 mics, comes with 1 receiver and 2 rechargeable mics with wireless charging magnetic dock built into the receiver, as well as windscreens, which are new for the mk2 mic, and both a TRS and a TRRS cable... IDK what the difference is besides one is for phones, and the other is basically for everything else... If I remember correctly it also comes with a hot/cold shoe mount adapter, which I assume hooks to the ¼-20 or whatever standard it happens to be threaded with for mounting...
I have seen many people say that this microphone Is professional and studio and all that is in fact what it is, but as you sound like more of an audio video professional and or movie making guy, who I assume has knowledge of video sets as well as possibly vlogging and general RUclips type of person, I would like to know what your opinion is, before I decide to take the plunge and buy something like that...
I am of the opinion that the better quality, and more professional, the gear is, the better chance you have of having a good experience with that gear, but also, if I can get proper professional gear for what I consider a cheap price of under $500 like this particular setup appears to be, then I would definitely prefer something like this because I have seen many people refer to it as basically punching way above its weight class in ease of use and just general being able to upgrade the range by basically just updating your firmware and stuff which is like something you normally can't do because it's just ships with what it has and that's that but this is so advanced that it isn't even funny, and the whole Wi-Fi avoidance that it has where you know checks the Wi-Fi and just megahertz all around spectrum and it adjusts itself till it finds the least crowded bandwidth that's available for free use and it does that as well as adjusting the range output dynamically by communicating with the microphone to you know increase or decrease the power as needed for up to like 20 hours of battery life on a microphone that's supposedly about the size of a double A or triple A battery...
I volunteer at my church doing IT stuff, as well as, now and again, photography and videography stuff, and would love a system like this I think for personal use, as well as possibly RUclips video use, and if needed, church use

    Hi Tom, nice review.
I consider buying a wireless system, but I wasn't able to do a short list.
I'd consider buying the compact "Rode Wireless GO II" if they'd have replaceable batteries or a declared service program.
I'd like to know your opinion about "RØDELink Filmmaker Kit" and your consideration about the size.
Would you bear its bulkiness to having replaceable batteries and maybe a bit of better signal?

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  Год назад

The filmmaker kit is more of a pro setup. Yes the transmitter is bigger but then again it's like any wireless mic system. The transmitter is meant to be hidden anywhere on the body while I always use a good lav mic close to the mouth. On TV shows and interviews where it's okay if the mic is visible that's not a problem. On films where the mic can't be seen we usually attach the transmitter around the ankle under the pants or sometimes even higher closer to the crotch area if the actors wears shorts or a skirt. Then we feed the mic cable under the clothes and do the V shaped gaffer tape trick to mount it directly to the actor's skin on the chest. I use the interlop Rechargeable batteries and that means I can have the actors miced up even on long 14 hour days. In conclusion the Rode Wireless GO is way easier and faster to setup but for more long term use and pro options go with the filmmaker kit. At this point nobody knows how many years the built in batteries in the Wireless GO will work. Once they die it's pretty much garbage unless you connect an external USB battery pack in which case the transmitter will be as big or bigger as the filmmaker kit. One nice feature of the Wireless GO that I use all the time is the built in recording on the transmitters for backup audio.

The Rode Wireless GO 2 is much better then the previous version. The range increase alone makes it worth over all of these other systems. Also it now can be used as a tiny portable audio recorder.
