There is a new compact wireless microphone kit in town and it's half the price of the Rode Wireless Go. Question is, can it match the quality of the trusted Rode brand? Watch the video review to find out.

The opinions expressed in this video were not influenced by or paid for by any outside individual or company. I use and test lots of products that are sent to me or that I buy myself. In the end, I only talk about the products that I find interesting.
Great job of testing and conveying the information to us! Thanks!!!
Great review! Thank you for trying out both equipments and sharing the comparison side by side!
Thank you so much that was very helpful. I will be using your link for the syncho.
Thanks for doing such a thorough review!!
very good video and great testing. Now I need to figure what to do. The 2 mic option is really tempting.
I also shared my review of this mic on my channel showing a few tests as well. Great vid Tom
LOL you are definitely a trooper testing those units in the middle of a storm. 👍
Awesome review! You get 20 extra points for the doing it in the storm. 😃
Thanks for the great video Tom - love your stuff. Always very clear, very concise and well-produced!
After seeing this, I'm ordering the Synco. My two biggest issues (and the reason I never bought one) with the Rode was that you had to buy two complete kits if you needed to mic two people - and, the nickel and dime mentality on accessories. I get the impression that the Rode may have stronger signal integrity which was causing the Synco to suffer performance-wise when both were in use.
Tom, you're the real hero for performing "real life test in the rain"! Super helpful review, thanks!
Thanks for the comparison I just picked some up using your link. Really handy having two mics and one receiver.
I have the SYNCO and I'm absolutely happy with it. Don't need to make recordings with people being more distant than, let's say 10 - 20 meters. Aditionnally, the SYNCO has a headphone output in the receiver part (where I can check the sound level etc.) - an important feature for me which is not provided with the RODE.
I just ordered mine and the ability to use a headset to monitor input made me select it over rhe rode.
Very nice detail I didn't notice. Thanks!
Excellent review. You covered the features of these two microphones really well. It's a tough call between these two mics. I think I would be happy with either one.
There had to be a trade off for the price and you found it instantly. Thanks for providing the test Tom.
Dude this video should have way more views‼️Great video and I enjoyed it👍🏾
Thank you
Should be viewed at least 200,000 times
At age 79 and an old veteran of the music biz as a performer, producer and engineer, I've been using an old so called wireless for my dialogue work in my youtube videos, but it's old tech and the receiver is quite large and has to plug into the wall so it's only wireless from the mike to the receiver and this of course makes it useless for field work. I love the way these are battery operated on both ends. So simple. Todays tech is just amazing. Us old dogs are glad to have lived long enough to enjoy it at least for the little while we have left lol. Just ordered a set to hopefully move into the 21st century lol!
Excellent Test & review on this item Synco Wireless Mic system I'd never heard of before!
This is nicely done, great info Tom. Really helped out, and the real world conditions with wind were super helpful. Way to get out there and take one for the team, ha!!
Tom, great video. Thanks for answering the important questions, price, performance.
Excellent review Tom, for me the Synco, is close enough that I have no problem choosing it and that is without even mentioning that the dual transmitter Synco (with the works) still costs $50 less than a single bare Rode system.
As an aside, there is another system it would be nice for you to review the Moman C2, which has the display screens similar to the Rode but has the full set of accessories like the Synco and is also a good $50 cheaper than the Rode. Cheers!
From your interesting review I’d have no hesitation choosing this Synco set. It won’t be so painful breaking or losing it.
Great comparison review. Many thanks Tom.
An excellent and useful test! Thank you!
Thanks for this dangerous location work, Tom. You just saved me a hundred bucks.
No problem!
Hi Tom, congratulations on your review. It was enlightening for anyone looking to buy a microphone. I preferred Synco for the sound quality and the cables. I was only concerned with the internal batteries of the two microphones. Like any electronic product, they have a lifetime. When they stop charging, will the owner have to buy a new microphone?
Nice review Tom. I think the Synco double would be good for me as I do interviews as well as talking to camera.
What an amazing review! Thank You
I Simply love the Synco Sound quality. I bought recently G2 and WOW. the Lapel Mic is so directional and quite only picks the direct sound. I was planning to buy the RODE but why Do I have to pay for a small difference in sound quality almost double the price. RODE Single Mic setup with Lav Mic cost you around $300 plus you have to buy the case if you want to keep the kit safe separately and if you want to use 2 Mic setup have to buy the other cable and then bracket. but if you just pay $150 and you will get everything. I means Everything with double mic setup and I just keep this for my run and gunshot and also when I need to use it with mobile setup this is amazing kit.
Thanks for your support for G1. We will launch more and more new products.
@@SYNCOMicrophones do u have the white color of this unit?
@@qtben17 are you maybe thinking the same as i. Black for the groom and white for the bride?
@@SYNCOMicrophones why the hissing is noticeable
@@ybgaming9547 that's the trade off for the lower price...but at that price tag, it's pretty good; maybe they'll increase the price if they manage to lower the hiss🙃
Your comparison was very useful, thank you for the effort! One question though, was any of the two mics sound edited, or are they straight out of the camera?
Great review. Thanks!
Thanks for the tips
Great work. Never heard of either of these before this video and I had been needing some mics. Used your link for the Synco Double but they're sold out.
The one thing missing from this comparison is how well it works through walls and clothes (like if you have it in your pocket while using a lav). The Synco has some really good features, but it seemed to be cutting out a lot during the bad weather part and when the signal was going through your body, which could be a deal breaker.
Yes. I was hoping this was going to be a cheap alternative to Rode but honestly I would not rely on it on a paid job
@@TomAntos If you use this in an interview setup with just 1 talent left, 1 talent right and you as videographer in front of them (about 6 feet away or something), will the Synco set with 2 microphones be good enough for paid jobs then? I shot an interview today with just 1 shotgun mic (wired into the mic in of my GH4) which worked fine, but the cable is not so handy (I placed the shotgun mic on the table in front of the 2 talents just outside the shot).
I noted the direction of the rain meant that the Synco was getting hit from the side, the RODE from the top. That might have had something to do with the glitching. I got the Synco G1 A2 kit and it seems fine. I'm not going to be using long distance - it's going to be for interviews and narration. I'm sure over the shorter distances it will be fine.
@@TheRealChrisVessey Hello, can I ask you a question ?
As an owner of the synco G1, do you have experimented the same cut and disturbing noise that they're is in the video during the storm ?
And do you know if a connected lav mic reduce that noises ?
The things you gonna do for your ... channel :) Thanks for heavy weather testing. To me (listening on regular speakers) they both sound about the same. The Synco does not have a display so how do you know at which level you are when you switch the DB level?
Great video. Gran video
Please i have an iphone can i use it with the synco mic?? If yes, can it work with the rode sc15 lightning cable for iphone???
Great test, thank you.
Hey Tom - great video. Was wondering if there is a hissing sound in synco?
great review! so useful
Your the best man ! Cool review
Just what I've been looking for. It's obvious to me that the Synco system has more noise. Did you use any noise reduction in post?
Synco is an entry level product. Not bad at all for the price. Rode is a step above. Pricey but the audio is better with much less drop outs outside. The difference should be minimal indoors though, so keep that in mind if you have no use of the mic outdoors... Finally I like the two mics and one receiver option of the synco. Good option.
Hi Tom, thanks so much for your video, it is a great review+comparison! I was wondering if you have tried the Mipassport from Relacart, since the specifications seem really similar to those of Synco and exactly same price. I would be interested, since the Mipassport has the advantage of having the digital screen so you can check the status at any time...Thanks in advance! Jen
Nice comp video, thanks. Did this exact same comparison too (without the range test) and like I hear in your video now the Synco gives a more isolated recording, less background ..still scrip. The fact that the Synco is more universal in usage and complete in set with hardcase I no longer use the Rode. Not to mention the fact that it has is not even half the price and that fact that there's a 2transmitter version.
I'll second that, same here.
On my studio headphones I can hear clear white noise with Synco, while Rode is quite clear. Pixel also suffers from noise and even more than Synco.
I have stupid Rode mic , I have been using them for 2 months and now the receiver need to be connected to the charger all the time ( something wrong in the battery) , it’s super hassle for me to hold the power bank that connected to the mic and it’s always turning off while taking videos , then later on I realize that no voice in my video, I had to repeat the whole shit again . I couldn’t use the warranty because I bought them from Japan FREE TAX . Any way I couldn’t skip the video without saying thank you , press LIKE and leave a comment .. however I don’t comment in videos but you deserve it ..You did a great Job and you helped me and now I am going to buy Synco .
I think it's great to have the wireless option if you need it for livestreaming or need it to feed directly into the camera for some reason but otherwise I'd prefer to just avoid the wireless interference and distance limitations by using the mic recorders like the Tascam DR-10L. Of course you can always use both right!?
I was thinking of picking up the synco as a backup but I’ll stick with my comica XD boom since they work perfectly. Crisp sound and long range. But I guess they should be for $269 but worth every penny. I use mine for wedding days and can’t afford to miss audio. I’m usually about 70-100 feet away from the groom and officiant so the Synco would be a no go for me
Un grand merci pour ce travail de comparaison, personnellement, j'ai choisi Synco. Bonne continuation. From Belgium
Would you make a full feature film with the Rhode Go in comparison to Seinheiser G4?
Synco 2mic sounds perfect for a small corporate kit… I don’t think I would trust either of these for serious audio - but great as a secondary / safety and Run’n’gun .. I wonder how they would sound with trams or countryman mics attached
Great budget option. The sound difference is indifferentiable. Great review
Good info, Tom. A no brainer.Syno 👍
Brilliant review.
It indeed is entertaining. Thank you Tom!
This was REALLY helpful, thank you! I've thought about getting a wireless system for shooting with my cell phone or my DSLR. How would you attach either mic system to a cell phone?
Thanks for the video
To, I am looking for my first cavalier microphone and this was a really great video. I like the Synco as it has a simple double mic option and also the ability to hear yourself with the microphone option for ear buds. Thanks for the information. I will use your link should Purchase this one. Now go dry off. You will catch a cold!
Thanks Tom, good information 👍
Thank you Steve
Wow, syncho is at least the same, with more features even. I'm buying this. Thanks so much
What do you think of the new Saramonic Blink 500 Pro vs Rode Wireless Go @Tom
It sounds like the synco has noise reduction on. I'm not sure if that's a setting or how the mic actually sounds.
Great video! I only have one question, will this Synco G1 work with iPhone 12 Max Pro?
It was a really helpful video
what about the latency ? any difference?
Very good video, and clear explanation. One question regarding the synco. For monitoring the audio, is it better to use the headphones out on the synco or from the camera? I use a Sony a7iii. Thanks :) cheers from Italy
I would say that monitor out of the camera would be better as that would be the final audio. Also, you'll be able to hear any issues caused by the camera preamps that way, e.g. preamps running too hot and clipping.
Thank you for show us 👍
Does the Syncho come with the adaptor for mobile phones (iphone 12) ?
Thank you so much
Thanks for the great video and for putting yourself through that shit weather !👏🏻
regarding synco did you have a lot of back ground noise and edited the audio with a video software ?
Shoot glad i stumbled across this video. I was just about to purchase rode but man synko definitely doing good and the price with extra goodies can't say no lol
Great comparison and contrast video! The Synco sounds very promising, but I am glad I went with the RODE.
Wonderful comparison 👍
What do you think about Boya WM4 Pro K2 vs Synco G1 A2 which one is good choice ?
interesting for sure. I like the fact that one can use 2 mics for interview type filming, that is the limitation I have with the Rode
you can do it with rode and a splitter left and right mono
I wouldn't use 2 mics on One channel, way too risky.
Wow thank you so much for this great review and comparison! Best one for this product I've seen by far. Great you caught the interference between them. Other reviewers did not catch that. Since I need 2 transmitters and stereo/separated sound the Synco is great. The Comica Boom has that option but I don't like its sound at all. The Synco sounds very good for its price, though the Rode is certainly is better for wireless strength and a slightly better sound, though small mic position differences would make way more difference to the sound than these have between them. Overall I'm impressed with the Syco and your review. This expose has convinced me the Synco will work for my needs. Thank you again for your timely effort.
Happy you liked my review Michael
Does the Synco receiver have a screen and can you adjust the audio gains?
just got the rode wireless go 2 waiting for it to arrive alot more improvements and 2 transmitters, have you had a chance to check it out
Thanks Tom
yeah we ALWAYS keep the transmitter facing the camera on the Go mic system. You can be less than 20' and it will cut out if you hang it on your back pocket... Def recommend a lapel mic. Much less annoying!
The signal of Synco G1 seems to be cut at 6:32--6:33, do you think so??
Well done. A lot of time and effort
Would the synco work for just home videos on a Samsung tab?
Do you know can the Synco wireless work with the GoPro 10 or 8? Thanks!
Would this work with a camcorder that requires an external mic ( canon vixia hrf600)
1. How did you manage to put the windscreen on?
2. Does the Synco work with the Pixel 5? (USB-C connection)
The rain and background noise is less with the Synco. Wow!
Hey Thanks for this review. Decided for the Synco double-set now :)
7:15 curious neighbour? :D
Me too! jejejeje
What about tests with XLR connections to blackmagic cameras?
for the Synco, will a shotgun mic work if I plug it into the transmitter?
Nice review. Thanks. I think as the Synco line matures it will get even better. A lot of value for the money if you're only going to be using it about 50 feet away and don't have any other devices which might interfere. I really want the rode setup, but the price with all the cables I need and a case is a bit too steep right now. I'll keep an eye on the Synco.
Dumb question: does the receiver gain adjustment button automatically cycle 2dB every click? There is no indicator and I can't hear any difference when I cycle through the volume adjustments. It works, right? Short of recording some consistent noise and cycling the volume, then importing it to Premier to measure noise levels, I'm not sure how to prove it's actually working.
it does work but you need to make sure that your camera or recorder doesn't have auto gain turned on or else you wont hear a difference.
Hoped the receiver would have had a mic to. So you can use it as a mic on the camera without using both. Or the transmitter would have had an mic in port, that would also fix the problem.
Thank dear
Hi does this product work with iPhone 6s ? Synco ?
This feels like it's the best for your voice. Often some mics, original mic used, does sound bottlenecked
Thanx Jamie
I've seen so many videos now 2023 of the Rode Wireless Go and it does so well outdoors in wind and under clothing with the wind jammer attached. Always very strong signal and clean high quality audio. I've also seen reviews of shotgun mics where the youtube person is wearing the Wireless Go and it often sounds better than the shotgun being reviewed.
I having a hard time with my g1 if I wear it on my side and my camera in front of me in my hand it cuts out !
How can be purchased n what is the Price
listening back to this video, after I bought the Synco microphone. YOU DEFINITELY NOTICE a hissing sound coming out of Synco vs the Rode. Going to be returning the Synco and getting the RODE. That hissing noise is insane and you have to do audio post to even minimize that.
I'd be curious to see how the *SOUND* of this compares to the new Tentacle Track E (I realize the Tentacle isn't the same kind of mic ... but if you connect a Synco to it, then it becomes a Wireless Mic that also records with timecode)
PS - It's not my fault you're getting wet in the rain .. I returned your umbrella :D
