This is arguably their most accessible song on the album. Like you said, prog lite! I've noticed you are winging your way through this album, at some stage you'll get to the masterpiece Awaken!
I was there in Philly, went every night 1977 the Spectrum, my favorite Band hands down!! What a Beautiful Experience every show! And I've seen everyone, but nothing compared to a YESSHOW🎉🎉🎉❤😊 AWAKEN IS A MASTERPIECE
Videos covering many hours of actual studio footage of this album exist on youtube: names are: "Yes Studio Sessions: 1976 - Going for the One Sessions - Full Video" and PLAYLIST: "YES 1977 / Going For The One Sessions "
Its not a bad stab for Yes at making a sort of MOR poppy radio friendly length song. The longer tracks are like there for when you are in the mood and have the time and patience to absorb them..
"Rush is prog lite compared to Yes." 😄 But that's exactly why Rush succeeded so spectacularly in 1980-82. By then the world was tired of grandiose, richly layered, prog excursions of the kind Yes had been pumping out since 1971. There was still a demand for proggy rock music, but just something that wouldn't make people leave the room! That's also what opened the door for the neo-prog bands like Marillion. BTW, this song made a bit of a comeback recently when it was used in a Volkswagen TV commercial.
Rush on Crack!!!😂😂❤ It is said..give at Least 3 listens to a Yea song to really hear it and Enjoy it! Also that Yes is for mature listeners-(no age associated with it). Looking forward to Awaken❤
It's interesting you mention "mature listeners". I loved Yes when I was in high school late 70's but probably appreciate them even more now. I wore out this album and Yessongs the most and Tormato lol...
I agree with the Rush-Yes comparison. You definitely need to create a head-space to hear Awaken. Approach with respect! There is one more tune before that - Parallels.
Justin I appreciate your comments after the tune regarding it taking a few listens to get it. This one not so much but just like Rush the epics like Awaken, Close To The Edge etc etc this must be true. I guess since I spun all these 70's Yes albums so much back in the day I see them differently. Rob I believe said that mid 80's Yes such as 90125 might get a more immediate positive reaction from you. Just cool songs more like Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows and not epics. The final tune Awaken is beautiful by any measure but upon first listen maybe it won't be. Either way I still appreciate you giving the record a listen....
Another classic... funny you feel how Rush is more poppy than Yes as I could never get into Rush back in the day (though I think Spirit of the Radio was a cool song for the school disco in 1980!). You are correct though in your assessment in that there is a lot going on... lots of parts, layers, even on a triadic song like this... I always liked the bass/cymbal hits... I never quite worked out how to anticipate them :D
This was the last great album by Yes. They had more popular albums in the 80s, but that was a different lineup and sound. Going for the one has one of my favorites, Awaken. The last epic track they did until the Keys To Ascension albums many years later. It’s unfortunate that they were not able to make another great album the following year with the same awesome lineup. Instead, we got Tormato, which is one of their worst albums. You’ve been warned…
Tormato was the last Yes album I bought and I have always liked it. Justin is listening to this one because it's my favorite Yes album and he's kind enough to do it for me. Depending on his reaction to Awaken I am not so sure he wouldn't like Tormato better. He did a reaction to On The Silent Wings Of Freedom and really liked it. I personally think he would love this entire album by 3 or 4 listens but who knows...
It's all context. Tormato was considered the weakest album for years just because of what had come before and immediately after it. But by the 90's it was seen as another installment in the run of classic 70's albums. I mean, c'mon -- compared to albums like Open Your Eyes it's aged pretty well.
@@kennethmckinney2532 I'm guessing he'd like half of Tormato. Songs like "Madrigal" and "Circus of Heaven"? Not so much, but the more tightly focused tracks with stronger rhythms seem to work best for him.
Oh, Mage of all things music. If only we could sit at your feet and bask in your aura.... and have you enlighten us of the gnat IQ and attention span....😂😂😂 Or you could just go fornicate your bad self.....
My dogs and I listened to this song first thing every Sunday morning in my backyard. It was my heaven. ☮️❤️😎🎼
YES! The greatest band there ever was or will ever will be!🤩
Awaken is epic. I flip between Awaken and Close to the Edge as my personal favorites. Hope you enjoy. Nice reaction!
Me too along with Gates of Delirium ❤
Awaken is the best track on this album and one of their top songs.

I'm sure once your chin whiskers turn all gray, you'll have the patience. I suggest medication for Awaken 😊

rush are crap
Great memories 😂 great tune...

Happy and relaxing
A Mini Gem!
🎶❤️🎶
ha ha ha - just wait for the next song!
This got some FM airplay before Clear Channel took over. Rush said they were influenced by Yes.
dont blame yes for rush
Always liked the Wonderous Stories moody vibe....Not sure if you've heard "Close to the Edge." With Yes, prog odysseys can be satisfyingly dizzying!
Interested in your thoughts on the next song: AWAKEN. One of the top 3 YES songs for me.

RUSH Comedian is back. Funny teach😮
I thought that comment was good for a thumbs up...

Rush on crack. Yeah that pretty much sums it up. 😂
“Rush is like a pop band compared to this” 😂🤣😭
I wouldnt even say rush were that good
I like this but I think Jon wrote better songs in this vein on later albums.
if you compare rush with yes, you need your ears syringing ....Yes are not for those with the attention span and IQ of a gnat
