i absolutely agree 'Turn of the Century', a bit more tragic and emotional and certainly less joyous.. but i think one of Yes's most beautifully crafted.
Is it me? Jon voice imprints your frontal lobe and soul. On a bad day , my mind goes to his beautiful voice. I came late to YES in 1987. Even now I go back to their albums.
I was a young man once...when I first heard this. Nostalgia can be wonderful and painful at the same time. I miss myself as that man. The full aliveness of all my senses, brought to life by this piece.
It is sad and poignant to think back to our younger carefree days.. for the most part. Billy Joel once sang the line in Piano Man, " It's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete when I wore a younger man's clothes"
I can still remember the thrill I felt when I first heard Yes. Early 70's. Love their work and the album artwork is exceptional. Progressive Rock. Rock on!
Great appraisal! My fav. group for the last 51 years, you have so much joy to come with this band, a 1000 people will vote for 'Awaken' me too, but there is so much. Thank you & VBW x
Given your wonderfully enthusiastic reaction, I’d say you are primed to become - a Yes fan! Another song or two, and I think you will see what this truly unique band is all about. Let me second a recommendation for “And You And I” (original studio version), and after that, “Turn of the Century” (with lyrics is helpful for this one). If they connect with you (I think they will based on this reaction), you’ll be on a journey with no turning back.
I LOVE this song! I grew up in the 60's & 70's and had known of Yes since they formed. Usually it's the earlier songs that get the attention but this was a later one & it blew me away the 1st time I heard it. I'm glad you liked it too! Thanks for letting me relive happier times for a few minutes.
They made this a fantasy song, that made it very wholesome. So pure and telling a story, as we. as children, would take, and make our dreams come true.
Harri, Same LP. "AWAKEN" it's long but a crowning Achievement! Rick Wakeman recorded in St. Martin's Church, Montroux. MASTERPIECE ✌❤ from New Jersey, Seen YES from 1972-1984 Enjoy the ride..xx
this song has such a beautiful, elegant, dreamlike feel to it... "turn of the century" is somewhat like this.. a bit longer and more involved... but, wonderfully elegant...
Yes! They are magnificent! I've seen them 4 times in concert over 20 years, I believe the last time was in 1995. Close to the Edge and Yessongs are albums you have to hear in entirety!
I have to thank you for not stopping and starting constantly. Many other "Reactors" stop and interrupt way Too much so, THANK YOU. I'LL BE WATCHING YOU, BROTHA!! XOXO
I can't count how many times I listend to this and other Yes albums on my Walkman in the 80s. My son worked a Jon Anderson show last weekend near Philly...another generation exposed.
Wonderful! Yes is my favorite group and this song is gorgeous. Great reaction! You should react to their song, South Side of the Sky. Amazing! Or one of their earliest hits, Then, which is about how love is the answer.
Hey Harri! Hope you're well. So happy to see you doing more Yes! Please do more you definitely won't regret it, Awakening is their magnum opus I have to say.
You really need to hear Roy Harper 'When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease' from 'HQ' (1975) or 'Another Day' from 'Flat Baroque and Berserk' (1970). Great channel Man - so refreshing to know that there are so many interesting and amazing records that were made just for the discovery and wonderment of everyone....keep diggin' (it?).
In my 20s I was a roofer, and Yes songs floated up often from my subconscious. Ethereal. And You and I ----- Yours is no Disgrace ------ Starship Trooper ------ Long Distance Runaround -------- Roundabout ------- Heart of the Sunrise -------- Wondrous Stories ------- I've Seen All Good People
Yes has some very "less busy" beautiful tracks. A few that come to mind: Time and a Word, Children of Light, Clear Days, Nine Voices, Yesterday and Today, Onward, and of course what has been recommended many times, Turn of the Century.
Yes's song The Gates Of Delirium has a closing section called Soon that you will love if you love this song. The song is over 20 minutes in length, but well worth checking out.
If you are starting down the Yes path there is so much fantastic music these guys put out. Try both Turn of the Century and Awaken. Beautiful! Too many songs to name but I would recommend the entire Close to the Edge Album (Close to the Edge, And You and I & Siberian Khatru). That’ll get you started!
Nice reaction. Yes are a great band. You have to hear Awaken from the same album, it's one of their best. South Side of the Sky off Fragile album is a really good song. Starship Trooper is one you'll probably like off the Yes album.
If you like Awaken, check out the Jon Anderson collaboration with Iceland's Toddmobile doing a version of Awaken with full symphony and chorus. Unbelievable really.
Yay, I found your Yes reactions! If I may suggest, when you do Awaken by Yes, listen to this first. Wondrous Stories and Awaken comprise the B side of the Going For The One album, and while the band never actually said so, I feel that lyrically the two songs are related. In my view, in Wondrous Stories, we hear the point of view of the new spiritual seeker, being taught by his Spiritual Guide on how to progress spiritually. In Awaken, that spiritual seeker has attained Nirvana, and has come in to the presence of The All. Awaken is definitely worth a reaction; the studio version just as follows Wondrous Stories on Going For The One. After that, then follow with a watch of Jon Anderson's live performance with Toddmobile. But I highly recommend listening to the studio version of Awaken first.
So I've just tracked back through all your reactions and found 2 previous Yes songs, 'Roundabout' and 'Owner of A Lonely Heart'. No wonder you were surprised by this song 😊 So understanding now a little of what you'll enjoy you should listen to ' And You and I' and 'Turn of The Century'. Once you've heard those the penny will drop with you just how unbelievably great Yes are. They are both truly beautiful masterpieces in their own right. Only then should you listen to 'Awaken', 'Close to The Edge' and 'Gates of Delirium' 😊
I bought this album on the day it was released with my first ever wage packet. It’s a really nice album and I consider it to be the band at their best. Nice reaction, just found your channel and subbed. I’d reccomend that you try out the other tracks on this one.
If you'd like to hear some more upbeat and wild pieces by YES, check out 'Siberian Khatru' and 'Sound Chaser'. If you want to hear more beautiful YES, try 'And You And I', 'Awaken', and 'Turn of the Century'. Awaken is 15 minutes long. If you want to hear more epics by them (15+ minutes) then you'll want to hear 'The Gates of Delirium' and each piece from their double album 'Tales from Topographic Oceans' and finally their grand masterpiece, 'Close to the Edge'. There's at least 20-30 more amazing pieces of music by them that you'll love.
I love Wondrous Stories; I saw Yes with the full band; they were wondrous. Instead of a support band they showed Bugs Bunny cartoons, the best ones. Hilarious, tho we were very stoned, but I think they were genuinely funny. I am a BB fan.
I could imagine that you would then also like some of the songs by Jon & Vangelis (Jon Anderson). For example: "Love Is", "Outside Of This" and "Deborah".
Ah hah, the old prog rock circuits are heating up! Have you listened to King Crimson yet? There's something a bit reminiscent of "In the court of the crimson king" here.
Cool reaction. Seen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show 36 times. Do yourself a favor listen to their first album side 2. It will get your soul. Then Sound Chaser will do.
Yes has many different sounds, and they beat any band - ever! You just need to play more Yes! Turn of the Century is beautiful. They didn’t know how to make a bad song lol. ☮️💜
I love your review. It seems you really liked this song. I highly recommend you view a cover (comment below) of this song by the Progressive Rock Band 'Magenta' - friends of mine from Wales. They nail it with their signature 'Magenta' sound tied in. You will love!
Well, if you really like this song, then you should just do the entire album. I think this is the weakest track on Going for the One. I still love it, but I love everything else more. Since you seem to have found a groove you like, I recommend you try Turn of the Century next, and then Awaken. Finish up with Going for the One and Parallels.
A complete collection of musical talent. Anyone who discovers and appreciates YES is alright by me!! Thank you
I recommend " Turn of the century " from the same album. A masterpiece
Madrigal is another of their songs in this vein.
Turn Of The Century is a masterpiece.
i absolutely agree 'Turn of the Century', a bit more tragic and emotional and certainly less joyous.. but i think one of Yes's most beautifully crafted.
Totally agree John brilliant one of their best
Agree, if he loves Wonderous Stories then Turn of the Century is the obvious next choice.
Is it me? Jon voice imprints your frontal lobe and soul. On a bad day , my mind goes to his beautiful voice. I came late to YES in 1987. Even now I go back to their albums.
Rick Wakemans magical fingers on keyboards, everything as a joint piece, this song is from another world, one where I would like to live ...
Jon is an angel
Really love Jon Andersons voice in this one, a great tune.
The wonderful yes playing this beautiful song musicals heaven.
I agree with the others, Awaken should be your next Yes song. Many people, myself included, consider it to be their greatest Masterpiece.
gorgeous song from an incredible band....Close to the Edge is their crowning achievement....
Gates of Delirium, in my book.
Simply the best
This one is WONDROUS! through and through!
This is definitely one of their best songs. Have listened to it for years and it still gives me a buzz. Wonderful lyrics too!
Rick Wakeman, who played Keyboard / Synthesizer on this one, also played Piano on "Morning Has Broken" by Cat Stevens in 1971. Worth a Listen 😁
This is also one of my all-time favorite songs from Yes...An Amazing Song
Given your wonderfully enthusiastic reaction, I’d say you are primed to become - a Yes fan! Another song or two, and I think you will see what this truly unique band is all about. Let me second a recommendation for “And You And I” (original studio version), and after that, “Turn of the Century” (with lyrics is helpful for this one). This is what heaven must sound like!!! I borrowed this album from my sister 40 yrs ago!! I still have it!!!!!!
Its A wonderful song. Its on my top list
"And You and I" is another masterpiece.
Amazing to think that this song reached number one in the UK, because they were never really known as a singles band.
They made this a fantasy song, that made it very wholesome. So pure and telling a story, as we. as children, would take, and make our dreams come true.
Thank you for reacting to this gem. No one else has plucked this one. Another rarity with this "Dreamy" flavor is Circus of Heaven.
Harri, Same LP. "AWAKEN" it's long but a crowning Achievement! Rick Wakeman recorded in St. Martin's Church, Montroux. MASTERPIECE ✌❤ from New Jersey, Seen YES from 1972-1984 Enjoy the ride..xx
It is indeed a great song. Great musicianship. Superb lyrics.great singing.
This has a more light spirited feel to it. A brilliant angelic feel to it!👍🏻❤️☮️🎤🎼🎹🎸
this song has such a beautiful, elegant, dreamlike feel to it... "turn of the century" is somewhat like this.. a bit longer and more involved... but, wonderfully elegant...
Peaceful is the word. Imagine a world full of love
Great. I love this one

I agree 100 percent!
Love this, brings back so many happy memories, listening with friends in the days where we shared our music at each others homes.
Yes always manages to bring my jaded adult mind back to a sense of childlike wonder and awe
Wonderful! Yes is my favorite group and this song is gorgeous. Great reaction! You should react to their song, South Side of the Sky. Amazing! Or one of their earliest hits, Then, which is about how love is the answer.

Great review, mate. I was a punk rocker in 1977 and I loved this song by Yes, and still do. It could be the soundtrack to The Hobbit.
How lovely - I've woken up this morning with this as my earworm.
Beautiful song.
Try out from Yes "And You And I" and just float downstream on a sunny day.

Beautifull song!
Yes! Other ballads from Yes..."Turn of the Century" and "Onward" come to mind. Check them out. I also like " And You and I".
I recommend AND YOU AND I from SYMPHONIC LIVE
yea its one of my fave tracks of all time yea dreamy
You will love Turn of The century from the same album, and actually everything else on that album, Awaken is an amazing epic song.
I mean, just *listen* to it. It’s spiritual. And just amazing musicianship. My current favorite. (that changes all the time)
Yes takes you place you wont normally go to, via music of couse!!

Great album.
Title song is fab.
Awaken is Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman's favorite.
And mine.🤗
I can guarantee you'll like 'Awaken' by Yes, at least as much, and probably more.
If you like Awaken, check out the Jon Anderson collaboration with Iceland's Toddmobile doing a version of Awaken with full symphony and chorus. Unbelievable really.
@@thomasbcool Thanks!

Heart of the sunrise
Good one Harri! If you haven't already heard "Roundabout" from Yes, Fragile album, check it out. Magical. Cheers from Texas. Xx
Yes, it is different in an awesome way. Try Yes's "Endless Dream." Long, but incredible with a second half that builds to the ethereal.
to be over, and turn of the century, and you and I, Madrigal, soon (the final part of gates of delirium)
The whole album is a must listen but Turn Of The Century. You will love it!
magic!
So I've just tracked back through all your reactions and found 2 previous Yes songs, 'Roundabout' and 'Owner of A Lonely Heart'. No wonder you were surprised by this song 😊

Exactly..they were ao different to this
Turn Of The Century from Keys to Ascension!!
I bought this album on the day it was released with my first ever wage packet. It’s a really nice album and I consider it to be the band at their best. Nice reaction, just found your channel and subbed. I’d reccomend that you try out the other tracks on this one.

Try I'll Find My Way Home by Jon and Vangelis.
they have an album called Tales From Topographic Oceans. It's based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead.
Try "the clap" from the yes album. One of the happiest acoustic guitar tunes ever.
Enjoy!
Not heard this in donkeys years, fab song
My fav to also by far but listen to YES Lift Me Up fantastic song
Good choice🤗
I love Wondrous Stories; I saw Yes with the full band; they were wondrous.

I could imagine that you would then also like some of the songs by Jon & Vangelis (Jon Anderson). For example: "Love Is", "Outside Of This" and "Deborah".
Michael Byrne has made beautiful videos of many Jon & Vangelis songs.
Ah hah, the old prog rock circuits are heating up! Have you listened to King Crimson yet? There's something a bit reminiscent of "In the court of the crimson king" here.
If you keep listening to yes,
You have a few new favorites coming.
Turn of the Century,
And You and I, Awaken, Onward, Madrigal...these songs are similar to Wonderous Stories
You might also like Onward - another delicate dreamy song
Not my favorite Yes song or album, but you really can't go wrong with this band. Tons of great music.
Gates of Delirium, brother.
There was another band in the 80s who did stuff like this song called Asia .
Same guitarist. Steve Howe. I saw their first show in Pittsburgh
Cool reaction. Seen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show 36 times. Do yourself a favor listen to their first album side 2. It will get your soul. Then Sound Chaser will do.
Check out the song called “Roundabout” by yes
I reccomened you do Going For The One, the title track from the same album or Long Distance Runaround from there Fragile album.
Yes ! No pun intended. Try Asia Heat of the moment. I am sure it is this guy Jon Anderson singing in Asia also
Jon Anderson never sang in Asia. It was John Wetton who sang in King Crimson and I believe U.K.
Alan Parsons, I robot and others by him and his group...
Harri Try Going For the one by Yes off the same album as Wonderous Stories
And now you need to dive headlong into Heart of the Sunrise. That will get you for sure.
Yes has many different sounds, and they beat any band - ever! You just need to play more Yes! Turn of the Century is beautiful. They didn’t know how to make a bad song lol. ☮️💜
If you particularly like this facet of Yes, you will definitely like "Turn Of The Century" from the album Going For The One.
I love your review. It seems you really liked this song. I highly recommend you view a cover (comment below) of this song by the Progressive Rock Band 'Magenta' - friends of mine from Wales. They nail it with their signature 'Magenta' sound tied in. You will love!
it takes a special kinda person to get YES. MY FAVORITE BAND
Bound for my forgiver.
To Be Over -1974
Have you done Roundabout?
Well, if you really like this song, then you should just do the entire album. I think this is the weakest track on Going for the One. I still love it, but I love everything else more. Since you seem to have found a groove you like, I recommend you try Turn of the Century next, and then Awaken. Finish up with Going for the One and Parallels.
Check out "Close to the Edge"
