  • Despite playing 10 minutes less than the record setter Dale Ellis, Alvin Robertson might have expended the most energy in this historical game. The man was the first or second option on offense (depending on whether Ricky Pierce was in the game or already fouled out), guarded Dale Ellis on the other end and played freaking 59 minutes. It's unthinkable how many possessions he affected. A seemingly amazing play -- which I don't have -- is him chasing down Dale Ellis on a breakaway to reject his layup. It happened in the freaking fourth overtime.
This game also showcases how he is one of the guys who racks up steals and does so by a being a great defensive player (not a gambler or empty steal getter). The scorers' table could have found him a way to 10 steals here, though, some seem to be (and, perhaps, rightfully so) counted as blocks or rebounds. November 9, 1989.

Great to see some Alvin Robertson highlights... Just a fantastic defensive player in his prime, and a very good overall baller.

Apparently, Alvin Robertson wanted out of Milwaukee in '92-'93 and he wanted to go back to San Antonio. Milwaukee wanted Willie Anderson in return, so Alvin instead got shipped to a lowly Detroit Pistons team that had to recover from Dennis Rodman going haywire personality-wise.
But if Milwaukee just took Willie Anderson rather than taking an injured Orlando Woolridge to sweeten the pot deal, I suspect 1992-93 would've been the first time since 1988-89 that Alvin Robertson donned the Spurs uniform. Oh what could've been. The Spurs were contenders when Alvin Robertson wanted to return to San Antonio.

He would have been a good Bad Boy, a few seasons earlier. I remember his time in Detroit, where he got punched by a rookie Shaq, and it only made him angry.

Did Shawn Kemp play at all this game? This date would've been early in his rookie year.
